Great way to start the new year. Go in for breakfast at 8:15 and as you would guess there's very few people. Sit down no one ever comes to the table so I say something to someone to yet another person walking by about that. The manager and three servers are standing around the register talking. The manager walked by my table twice never said a word and obviously didn't notice that I had nothing but empty cups and the menu. Five minutes later I decide I'll go somewhere else. First of all, if you're black and like being segregated in a back room with all other black people, then this is the place for you. It was giving very much 1950s Jim Crow. All of the black people were seated in this one room and the rest of the restaurant (what you see when you come in) was not..... Interesting. We watched in amazement after this happened all throughout our dining experience. Second of all, the manager I dealt with was condescending and not customer-friendly. After dining in, I placed a to-go order. They forgot to put a portion of my order in the bag (not to mention this was an addtl. charge)... When we got home and the bag was opened, we called the restaurant to politely notify them. The manager went back and forth like he didn't know what he was supposed to do if I wasn't returning (I don't even live close to the restaurant).... This ended with him taking my email and saying he would reach out to me (obviously annoyed with the situation... though it wouldn't exist had my order been correct). It's been a week...... I've heard nothing. There wasn't even an apology. I never asked for a refund and remained kind through the interaction, but his "attempt" to make things right was nonexistent. read more

I went back and forth on whether to rate First Watch with 2 or 3 stars. Everything we ate was just ok but the fresh juice was delicious. Service I would give 1 star. We arrived at 10 am and put our name on the list for a party of 7 received our 20-30 min quote and headed outdoors to wait. They request your number so they can text you letting you know your table is ready. 30 min later someone came out and asked us if we were ok with being split up but near each other and we said sure. 5 of our party sat in a booth and two of us were directly across in a small two seater booth. It took about 10 min and our server arrived but only took the drink orders for the larger booth and walked away (never acknowledging the other two people). We found the server at another table and pointed out the issue. After the large booth got their drinks she took the order for the small booth. The food for the large booth came out at exactly 30 minutes after we were seated. The two at the small booth received their food 10 or so minutes later. No apology at all for the obvious delay when we agreed to sit separately (but very close) we had no idea that meant two in our party would be ignored. The food was just okay. The seasoned potatoes need seasoning and less mushy would be good. I had the Eggs Benedict BLT style and the lemon overwhelmed the entire dish, after the first bite that is all I could taste. The bacon was absolutely delicious and is one reason I would get a to go next time. My daughter's omelette was bland but large. I also had a Kale juice that was wonderful. There are so many great restaurants in Nashville that I can't imagine I would return anytime soon for such bad service and underwhelming food. read more

This morning we went to the First Watch near Petmart in Brentwood. Terrible service. Asked for a booth and we're left standing there by the person who was supposed to seat us. Totally forgot about us and never came back. She wasn't friendly anyway, never smiled. We walked out and went to the First Watch on Old Hickory. What a difference! Lose 2 stars for how awfully unfriendly the host was. Some dude with an earring who looked annoyed just to be there instead of greeting anyone. Straight up rude! I'm new to the area and was looking for a nice breakfast place near my home. Was so pleasantly surprised to find that not only are there healthy options on the menu, but also some nice indulgences. I had their special of cinnamon chip pancake, eggs and bacon, which you can change up for any other meat side you'd like. It was a perfect portion for me with a nice size pancake, two eggs and two slices of delicious bacon, but a little small for my adult son. The staff was friendly and helpful. Very attentive, but be sure to get ready to wait on the weekends since they do get a little busy. I visit this first watch often-- the food is delicious and the waiters are great, but today I realized what a difference a host can make on the atmosphere of the restaurant and the guest experience. Walter, who works at the host stand, is so welcoming! As soon as you walk into the restaurant he makes you feel like he's happy that you're there, almost as if you're walking into a friend's house. Ordered through Uber Eats. Food was 45 minutes late, because the restaurant had trouble with the order. What arrived was mostly inedible. Part of the order was wrong. Avocado was black, bacon was either burnt or raw, eggs were rubbery. I ordered a Bacado omelette, and from the name you can probably tell it's an omelette with a key ingredient of bacon. However, when I opened my lopsided placed omelette I couldn't even find the remnants of one full piece of bacon. I typically avoid reviews unless they're good but this just really ticked me off. Definitely exceeded expectations, the food was absolutely delicious, we went on a weekend morning and we put our name in before we left the house, only waited maybe 10 minutes, which is OK with me. The fresh preserves on the toast was amazing, can't say enough about the quality of food here. Everyone had a different dish and everyone (3 of us) was really pleased. Will definitely frequent this place, cost was equal to quality, not cheap but feel we got a fair deal, which is what you are looking for! Cons if any...service was not the best I have had but it was busy and the girl was polite and we never waited too long for her. 3.5 My boyfriend received a First Watch gift card for his birthday so we had the opportunity for a lovely Saturday breakfast out. I have been to this strip of businesses few times but never noticed that First Watch was there. It's a very nice development with neighbors like The Well, OrangeTheory Fitness, Firehouse Subs and The Corner Pub. Plenty of free parking. If the front is full, there is a nice parking garage in the back that is free. When I first thought of First Watch, I pictured a coffee cafe with some light breakfast/lunch options. I was wrong. It's a regular restaurant with a full menu and sit down service. The decor is cute with rustic wood and blue walls. It's a chain from Florida so I definitely got the Florida vibe. We were greeted right away by the hostess and she was really friendly and helpful. She took the time to figure out how to tell us how much was on our gift card. We were then seated right away even though the restaurant was packed. We got a comfortable booth with plenty of room. Score! Our waitress dropped off some menus and I was surprised by all of the options! I think they brand themselves as a healthier breakfast/lunch choice. There were a lot of power bowls, avocado, grain options. When I think breakfast, I think pancakes smothered in butter and syrup. I'm not the healthiest individual. I decided to go with the lemon ricotta pancakes and my boyfriend got the loaded omelette (I don't remember the exact name but it had pretty much everything in it). The pancakes are multigrain so they even manage to make pancakes a healthier option. Our food didn't take too long even though they were busy busy. My boyfriend's omelette looked great. Packed full of meat and veggies. It also came with a side of potatoes and whole grain toast. He said the flavors were great and the potatoes had some nice seasoning on them. I was a little more disappointed with my choice. The description of my meal said the wholegrain batter had whipped ricotta cheese added and then the pancakes were topped with marinated berries and creamy lemon curd. First, the pancakes are huge. Plenty of food there. However, right away I noticed they looked a little overcooked. Maybe the wholegrain batter cooks differently. Also, when I read berries, I was thinking an assortment of berries. They actually just come with cut up strawberries on top. Not a big deal. The lemon curd tasted like normal lemon curd which is good because that's about all I tasted. The pancakes had no flavor. I had to put a lot of syrup on them just so I could get some more flavor. It just felt like empty carbs with lemon. It's probably my fault for ordering multigrain pancakes. I should have ordered something more savory than sweet. The service was really nice and the place is a cute chain. There is nothing extremely impressive for me here but I think a healthier eater would be happy about all of the choices they have. With so many great breakfast places in Nashville, it would take a lot for me to come back here. But if you're in the neighborhood, it's not a bad option! This breakfast and brunch cafe is new to me, and I was impressed with this place from the start. The menu is creative with nice twists on standard breakfast favorites. I guess the best way to describe the cuisine would be kind of a natural healthy alternative, with more veggies and fruits than you would normally see on a breakfast menu. The crowd seems to be a little more sophisticated and trendy, and maybe the types that would prefer to do their grocery shopping at Whole Foods or Trader Joe's instead of Kroger. The atmosphere is nice and kind of artsy, which makes it very comfortable and relaxing. I've been here twice, and both times I ordered the traditional eggs Benedict. The first time the side was seasoned potatoes, and the second time the side was a nice simple lettuce salad. The Eggs Benedict is a standard recipe except for the slice of fresh tomato included. Everything was very good, and I would probably order this entree every time I dine here. There are actually about five different Eggs Benedict choices on the menu, and maybe one of these days I may get adventurous and try something different. I tried a little of the French toast entree my wife orders, and it was excellent with lots of fresh fruit and a fruit sauce blend that really puts this cuisine on a different level than traditional breakfast restaurants. Over easy eggs with gruyere cheese, avocado, bacon, mayo with arugula in a lemon dressing, atop a brioche bun, was my go to meal every time we went here. Since moving to a more plant based diet, I have tried other foods in their menu. The avocado toast on whole cut grain toast with maldon sea salt and lemon was average. A pinch of dried basil and cayenne, a change from maldon sea salt to pink himalayan salt, would have added depth and richness to the avocados, bringing out the grain on the toast. I decided to forego the two basted eggs that came with the meal. Granola with blackberry preserves, bananas and berries mixed with coconut milk chia seed pudding served with grain toast with maldon sea salt and almond butter was the next thing I tried. The coconut milk with chia seeds had the consistency and taste of coconut cream - huge difference. The saccharine preserves and the slippery viscosity of the cream was inedible and was akin to eating semi melted butter and sugar. read more

First Watch is a Florida-based brunch and lunch fresh market haven. Think traditional of a healthier spin on traditional brunch foods with some an assortment of green juices available. The interior looks like someone opened up a can of hipster shabby chic decor, from the rustic signs that proclaim its farm fresh mentality to the random slabs of wood hanging from the ceiling. From mid-morning on, they usually have a wait - especially on the weekends. However, I found that the estimated wait times on Yelp to be quite accurate - in this case, I waited until it said 0 minutes wait time, then got in. This visit included smoked salmon eggs Benedict, a Parma skillet hash (available only in select locations), and a side of biscuits and gravy. The smoked salmon eggs Benedict ($12.99), is their own self-proclaimed "egg-sclusive," that uses toasted ciabatta instead of a standard English muffin and is topped with thinly sliced sockeye, red onions, and tomatoes. Unfortunately, the flavor was about as thin as that portion of salmon: thick cut tomatoes overpowered the entire dish and the ciabatta, while lovely in theory, failed to hold up to the task. The result was a chewy, soggy, tomato-flavored experience with the occasional pop from red onion. The hollandaise sauce was lackluster and was difficult to differentiate in its flavor from the runny egg and unless you ate the salmon on its own, its look and taste was pretty much absent. Eggs Benedict is usually pretty good wherever you have it, even if the sauce is questionable (as revealed in in Anthony Bourdain's classic, Kitchen Confidential). In fact, my partner and I talked about how we never had a bad experience with it...until First Watch. Its main flavor profile was disappointment and the only redeeming factor was that it "felt" healthy (at 630 calories, you could do worse). Speaking of worse for you, side the biscuits and gravy ($4.99) was pretty good. A side turned out to be a very large portion. The biscuits were soft and moist, the entire bowl was covered in turkey sausage. While it wasn't pretty to look at, the sheer quantity of gravy made up for its use of turkey sausage instead of pork. For a country gravy, it fairly light (personally, I think it could use a dose of some rosemary and black pepper). However, for $5, it was worth every penny. The next dish was the skillet hash (two eggs topping seasoned potatoes, $10.99). Here, you could choose from three different options: Farmhouse, parma, and market. I went with the parma, which included Italian sausage, house-roasted crimini mushrooms, onions, and tomatoes with melted Parmesan, Mozzarella, and fresh herbs. The overhead view of this plate was nothing impressive. It came with something akin to a stainless steel Dixie cup of fruit along with some toast and jam. However, sliding the perspective down revealed something much more appetizing: a bowl happily filled with potatoes and flavor. The parma skillet was my favorite dish of the day. The Crimini mushrooms popped with unexpected flavor every time into one, not unlike a nice caper (and speaking of capers, tht's something else the smoked salmon eggs Benedict could have used to coax some more flavor out). The cheese provided a nice crust on the seasoned potatoes. The over-easy eggs ran down like a thick, satisfying sauce that paired nicely with some hot sauce (Cholula on the table). Switching between this wonderful bowl of food and the biscuits and gravy made up for the salty tears that erupted from the sadness of bad Beendict (note: salty tears would have also made the smoked salmon taste more like salmon). When coupled with some coffee and a cup of grapefruit juice, the total added up to over $40 so it was definitely on the pricey end of brunch (and we didn't even get mimosas!). My first visit to First Watch. . . and what a disappointment! I ordered my fave - avocado toast. It came with "basted eggs" and I ordered a side of potatoes and an iced tea. I have probably ordered avocado toast 100 times ??? in a restaurant and have NEVER had it served cold. The avocado was straight out of the refrigerator and the toast was room temperature. The eggs were OK and the potatoes fine. The $3.50 iced tea a definite rip off. But the worst $21 bfast I've ever had. I mentioned the avocado toast (which I ate only half) to the waitress and the hostess. The waitress said the chef didn't want to heat the avocados (heat the avocados?? I just don't want them ice cold) and the hostess told me she always has her avocado toast cold. Get me out of here! The ladies' room had no soap and no towels. I mentioned that when I checked out but the hostess assured me that the cooking staff had their own sink and they had soap. Whatttt? I'd say a two star review is a stretch. read more

This place is amazing. The staff are all so friendly. Especially Kara and the food is AMAZING. I'm not a huge chain person, but this food does not disappoint. My fiancé would come here for work and told me about it and we came here two mornings in a row it was so good! I had the matcha latte pancakes (one of their specials) and my fiancé had the skillet and he loved mine so much we came back today and both got the matcha latte pancakes. This place must be called 'First Watch' because you eat in shifts. This is my second visit to First Watch and also the second location I have been to. In both instances the food was completely passable. Not AMAZING but not bad either. If your looking for a serviceable breakfast, this place is fine. What I would really love to discuss is the service. In BOTH instances in two separate locations the service was practically nonexistent. For a place that was almost empty, and I counted about 5 servers, no one was paying attention to the guests. The coffee came in carafe, thus taking out the need for someone to check on refills. Getting actual cream not gross packaged stuff was an ordeal just to flag someone down. What were they doing I wonder? They certainly weren't helping guests. They didn't have any! My husbands pancakes came out and I was informed that my omelette was shortly behinds. Shortly my butt. It took at least 15 minutes. Somehow there was a breakdown in communication between the waitstaff and the kitchen and by the time my food came my husband was finished eating. I saw multiple plates come and go whilst waiting for my meal. No offer for a discount even thought the waitress could tell I was annoyed. A whispered explanation placing the blame fully on the kitchen was all I got. Then about two minutes later before I barely started eating the check was dropped off. But "no rush!" Whomever is responsible for training the waitstaff should no longer have that job. If you don't want to interact with your guests, have us order at a counter and call out our names when the food is ready. You are obviously wasting money on paying a waitstaff. Do us all a favor and either retrain, or cut out the middle man. read more

By far the worst First Watch ever. If you're looking at the reviews and thinking that you'll just try your luck because you've eaten at a different first watch, SKIP this. Trust the reviews. Food was COLD. Cream for my coffee took over 15 minutes to arrive. I had to have my bacon sent back because it was so cold. The server wasn't even apologetic. Granted that the food isn't her responsibility but at least explain that the kitchen is swamped. But, checking in with us is her responsibility. We were left without water for too long. The service and the food was horrible. If I could give them ZERO stars, I would. I will never be going back even though I live in the neighborhood. read more

After coming to this location several times now, I have to remove a star because the service isn't great. It's ok. I've had a different server every time and there always seems to be one thing a little off whether it's a missing drink, item, a check problem, no server coming around, etc. The food has been great though. The food was pretty good but the wait staff were awful. I'm surprised by the negative food reviews, but maybe the cook we had was better. When we first got in to the restaurant, we waited approximately 10 minutes before we were even greeted, it wasn't even busy. It was the middle of the week - Thursday. Tables around us weren't bussed - there were dirty dishes left on several tables for the full 30+ minutes we were in the restaurant. Then we were ignored after being handed a check and could not get anyone to give me a box or coffee refill. The people at the table behind us were ignored too. I waited so long to try to get someone's attention to get a box that I finally took my plate of food with me to the cashier/hostess. When I asked for a box, she turned to the next customer and tried to help them instead. That customer was nice and told her to help us instead. Looking frustrated, she went to go to the back but then stopped to seat some people who just came in. After I finally got the box and packed up the food, she then asked me to take my plate over to the bar for her! read more

Absolutely filthy restaurant. Walls were covered in dust, light fixtures had dust all in them, vents above tables were saturated with dust. Say next to kitchen and we were horrified at what we saw. One server kept wiping her nose with her hand and then handling food. When brought that to management attention she just said we didn't see what we saw. Our server didn't use a tray and was carrying the food against her body... her shirt was covered with food it was disgusting. One server wiped a spill up on the floor and then another server grabbed the towel from her and WIPED A TABLE!!! We were out taking advantage of the perfect weather and decided to stop at First Watch for lunch. First, our wonderful server, Kayla, appeared almost as soon as we were seated. She brought a carafe of strong coffee and took our orders. The coffee was just the was I like it and, I hoped, the rest of the meal would be just as good. I ordered an omelet- The Works- along with First Watch potatoes and whole grain artisan toast. Both the potatoes and the toast were great. The huge omelet was cooked well but seemed to be missing something...taste. It was dreadfully under-seasoned to the point of being bland. My guess is that neither salt nor pepper were added during cooking. Had my omelet been seasoned properly, I would have awarded First Watch four stars. But it wasn't, so I shan't. I shall, however, be back. The service was excellent and the problem in the kitchen can be easily remedied. read more
