I live about 2 miles from this First Watch but I usually go to Bartram. When I arrived with a friend we waited at the host stand for 5 minutes while no worker came to address us. After 3 older, white women came to the stand I seen a worker from the kitchen leave his position to come to the host stand. This same worker seen me and my friend (mind you, we are black) standing there minutes before. When he walked up he immediately took one of the women's cash to check her out. I told him that it was some BS because he had seen us up there waiting before the other women had arrived to the host stand. This is clear racism. He told me he didn't know who was first and I said even if that were true (which it was not) then as a professional he should have asked who was first. He replied that it was not that serious, basically unapologetic or anything for our experience. I will never spend money at a place that does not respect me as a person. I told him that we were leaving to go to Bartram and he said he hopes we get better service there. You should really have better representation of your brand because he is NOT it. read more

This morning I am awaken to the hubs and blueberry pancakes! Wait, not him making me pancakes....but with the declaration of "Let's go get some pancakes from First Watch!" We went to our first choice, Bartram location, but they had a 20 minute wait and we didn't want to wait that long... it's 10:25. So we head over to the San Jose location and I make a reservation online. There were 11 people ahead of us and a 31 minute wait. We forged ahead to the San Jose location. Finally, we are directed to our table and ordered. We waited on our food for 34 minutes and I discover the eggs are ice cold, the sausage also cold and the pancakes....cold. The grits were hot so I sent the rest back. The hubs order is steaming hot. The scrambled came out on a saucer and they were delicious but no pancakes or sausage. I finish the eggs and grits and the hubs is almost finished with his entire plate. It's been 20 minutes almost and still no pancakes. 24 minutes and the waitress says she will check... 28 minutes and still no pancakes. 31 minutes and they placed in front of me. They are good. The sausage is still barely warm. I eat the blueberry pancake and leave. No manager visit. No I'm sorry we were slammed. (They weren't. ) So I put this on the line cooks and manager. Too slow and no leader to push the orders through. I'll stick to Bartram and wait the 20 mins. read more

After my second time here I am leaving a review. My rating is only three stars because I feel like for the price the experience is just okay. The first time I visited this location I was with my children (twin 1.5 yr olds at the time). They shared a pancake and liked it okay. As far as small children go, it will depend on your child's taste preferences if they will enjoy it or not. The menu is unique, and limited in a sense as many healthy/organic menus can be. I don't mean that in a negative sense, just be prepared for organic prices and organic style options. I don't remember what I ate that first visit, but I remember liking it okay, and thinking I liked it enough to return. I liked the atmosphere mostly. We went when it was not incredibly busy and the wait staff were very friendly. My latest visit was this week. We went for lunch (w/o the kids) and I had the roast beef sandwich with tomato soup (a "you pick two" style option). The soup was average, not as good as my canned organic, but decent enough. (Sorry, my husband adds spice and extras to our canned soups, so I'm spoiled in that sense.) The sandwich was amazing though. I loved the horseradish mayo style dressing on it. I had a stuffy nose so it really helped! The bread was warmed/lightly toasted. I'd go back just for that sandwich...it was so tasty. My parents were with me on this visit...my mom had the club sandwich with vegetable soup. She like the sandwich okay. She mostly remembers it having the "healthy" vibe to it, not overly flavorful, just simple. Same for the soup; it was good, but not anything overly flavored. For me, I like it as a healthier, cleaner version of Panera. Plus, I like supporting local business. My dad had a breakfast meal. A waffle with eggs and bacon. He liked his a lot. Everything was cooked well, and he enjoyed it. As I mentioned, the three stars is really just for the price compared to the product. Organic and healthy costs more, so it's to be expected. It's a nice change up from the regular food options in the area. I recommend you give it a try and see for yourself. I'll be back for sure. read more

Have been here for breakfast several times, and the food is generally good and fresh. Today was a bit disappointing. Had the hash breakfast with potatoes, onion, cheese, bacon and avocado., which was filling and good. However, this comes with choice of eggs; I ordered scrambled. Apparently this cook doesn't know how to cook scrambled eggs; they cane out looking somewhat like chopped up hardboiled eggs, and had no flavor. Fruit looked and tasted a little past prime. As usual, their bread was heavenly. Next time I want scrambled eggs, I'll go down the road to Metro Diner! We were there a little before 8 am, and there were onlt two waitresses, who tried their best. Could have used more help read more

Our friends asked us if we wanted to meet for brunch (of course) and let us pick the place. We had missed the yelp event at the location in Bartrum, so we had been wanting to try this restaurant, and I suggested it. When we got there there was a 35 minute wait, but our friends had beat us there so we only waited 15 minutes. We subsequently learned that you could check in online, and I strongly recommend doing so. The menu had some appealing items, although in looking at prior reviews and seasonal selections, I wish that they had the pork belly cheese grits offering. I elected for a frittata with onions tomato crimini mushrooms and a protein, and my wife got French toast with the million dollar bacon. The bacon was the best thing we ate, it had a nice heat level yet still was sticky sweet. I tried some on my wife's French toast with a bite of the bacon, and that was the best bite of the morning. My wife said the French toast was fine, and she was kind enough to split it with me. I think she was willing to do so because she thought it was otherwise uninspired. I let her have some of my frittata, and frankly I was underwhelmed. It was unevenly cooked, as half of it was browned too much on top, but the other half was much better, and thankfully that is the half I shared with my wife. There was not very much in the way of filling, mostly tomatoes and onions, but not much protein or cheese, so I wasn't really too enthused to finish it. I did enjoy the crimini mushrooms in it, but I ended up eating those separately as they were not diced up much, if at all. our friends were similarly lacking enthusiasm about their selections, although again million dollar bacon was a hit. This restaurant's prices were fairly reasonable, as the portions were good sized. Service was good, and in consideration for long wait times, they have coffee and water available. Nevertheless, given what we found to be a less than enthralling meal, I do not think we will be back anytime soon. read more

I went to this place for brunch a few days ago. The girls that work there are super nice and accommodating. Right when we got there there were people standing outside waiting so I knew it would be a long wait. The girl at the desk asked for my phone number so she could put it in the system to text me when my table was ready. My boyfriend and I shopped while we waited, TJ Maxx is right next door so it was very convenient! We got seated and ordered our food. When it came my eggs weren't poached long enough so I asked for them to be re done. The waitress made sure to ask what exactly was wrong and how I wanted them cooked. It took a little longer then I would've liked for them to come back out. When my food came the girl told me my meal was on the house, which made me really happy! I have been previously during the week, but walking in solo on a Sunday morning around 11 with tons of people waiting I was genuinely impressed with how attentive they were to people waiting and seated customers! Their coffee is so yum, perfect strength and their variety of International creamers offered on the tables is a warm touch. Everything I've had was so fresh and delightful. They have a community table for parties of 1 or 2 that offers immediate seating where you are sure to meet other customers and receive equally great service! More recently I went and I can't speak highly enough about their customer service. The wait staff is above and beyond considerate. read more

Dining in is always fantastic, but sometimes my partner and I want breakfast in bed. We order delivery direct from the website occasionally, with my partner's go-to order being the turkey sausage gravy. Not once, not twice, and not even three times now have they completely left the turkey sausage gravy out of the bag. Totally unprofessional and telling of the quality control measures not being taken. Usually the sticker with the "order checked by:" is left blank, but today it is signed by "JF". Not sure what is going on in the window to leave only my to-go and delivery orders consistently missing items, but it needs to be addressed and controlled appropriately. The fact that I have to come on here and leave this review is sad, because I really do like first watch! But I'm writing this in hopes that I will never again have to stare into a half-empty paper bag. Please don't think that I'm exaggerating either, more often than not with my delivery orders I'm missing the sausage gravy, to the point where my orders have listed "please don't forget the gravy!" in the notes and instructions tab. It truly is just disappointing to see this come from an establishment that has what I consider one of the best breakfast menus in the area. Please do better! read more

The eggs were perfectly cooked, bacon was crisp without being over cooked and the pancake was great. I could not have asked for more. The cons - The coffee was very bitter (not strong - I like strong coffee) and burnt tasting, I know the difference. It had been sitting way past when coffee should be served. Our server Kim rushed us on ordering; asking us if we were ready to order before we had opened up the menu and it went downhill from that point. She seemed to be checked out already and thinking about the labor day party she was attending later in the day. I have nothing against the food; it was very tasty. I didn't see how this place was any different than a McDonald's but with a healthier marketing presentation to attract customers. I ordered a veggie grill and a pecan dijon salad. The veggie grill had a nice flavor of vegetables but the bread was saturated in butter it defeated the whole purpose of a healthy lunch option. The chicken salad was pitiful. One - iceberg lettuce always equals disappointment but beside that my real issue was the chicken on the salad. The menu claims to have all natural all white meat chicken. After waiting for 50 minutes without anyone on the wait staff so much as saying hello were told our ticket was lost and that they would put a new ticket in for us and put it to the front of the line. After another 20-30 minutes we got up and left without so much as hearing anything back from the wait staff and never receiving any food. Stay away at all costs. The food here at First Watch is mediocre. I ordered oatmeal and pancakes, and nothing was spectacular at all. The portions are nothing like metro diner, almost too small for some items. After my pancakes, I ended up ordering oatmeal because I wasn't filled up at all (I had gone on a long run that morning, which is why I was hungry). Not only were the portions somewhat skimpy, but it was overpriced given the portions. Overall, I would recommend anyone to go to metro diner instead. This is my second coming here and I have to say my first experience was much better then my second. I would like to give this review a two and a half simply because our first server was so great. However, this second time our server was not as good and really brought down my overall experience. I was really looking forward to the trying the cornbread in the Cornbread Carnitas Bowl but when I received my food the server that brought it to me asked if I knew they had run out of cornbread. I didn't and my original server regretted to inform me that they had run out. If I had known I would have ordered something else. She frequently forgot what we had asked for prior. Things like utensils and napkins we constantly had to wait and ask other servers for assistance because our original server only stopped by once to check on us. My husband and I have heard really good things about this restaurant, especially their breakfast menu. We went there today arrived at 8:25 am and got immediately seated. We were in the back booth by the restrooms. The restaurant was not overly crowded but was about 1/2 full. We waited, and waited, AND WAITED for someone to come to our table. In the meantime we watched other people come in, get seated and have a server get them their drink orders. 20 minutes went by. Nobody came to our table. Other servers were waiting on tables across from us. We gave it another 5 minutes and decided to leave. My husband told the seating hostess at the entrance. He is diabetic and needed to eat. One of the waitresses offered a free meal but we had enough of waiting. Went down the road to Metro Diner and got immediate and friendly service. I'm not sure we will go back. First Watch is a really great breakfast place in an area of town desperate for a good breakfast place. I know there's Metro Diner up the road. And I know that First Watch is a chain restaurant. But here's the thing, First Watch has yet to let me down and the Metro Diner near the river is always hit or miss. My wife and I really enjoy going to First Watch when we can get away from the children on a weekend morning. The only problem with that, besides being a bad parent, is that's when everyone else wants to go too! So be prepared for a bit of a wait. You're not gonna go wrong with an order at First Watch. You can tell, they care about the quality they're sending out on the plate. First Watch in Mandarin is one of the few chain restaurants I'll even take the time to review. The service is always friendly, and recently when I asked for special accommodations due to dietary restrictions, they didn't balk even for a second. We watched as several tables just sat dirty for over 30 minutes, while many people waited for tables. The hostess said it was on purpose to "not overwhelm the kitchen".
