Decided to try out First Watch on a fun weekend trip to San Antonio with a couple of friends. I have never heard of First Watch before this trip, and my friends were fans of it already, so I came in with big expectations. I really enjoyed the "farm to table" advertising and knowing that my food was made with nice ingredients. I ordered the mushroom frittata, a seasonal breakfast item and was pleasantly surprised. The best part of the frittata was the cream cheese spread that came with it- it had a smokey flavor that balanced out with the creaminess from the eggs. The addition of greens on top of the frittata added a needed crunch and bitter taste that I really liked. I also ordered an iced coffee which tasted normal- nothing special, but got the job done. I came to the hostess to ask our position in line and was told she never checked us in and that we would need to wait additional time.---- that sucked. The food: I ordered the pumpkin breakfast because it is the season. The pancake wasn't too pumpkin but did have a hint of it. I could have used more pumpkin filling or a pumpkin syrup for it. Also we ordered the carrot pancake with eggs and sausage which was amazing and bursting with flavor. I expected this flavor from the pumpkin one also but this got my flavor fix. Breakfast is definitely my favorite meal of the day (next to brunch of course) and they have some awesome healthy entree options. Firstly, I walked in at 9:00 am on a Saturday morning, the hostess greeted me right away and I was seated promptly. The waitress was beyond pleasant and definition of great attitude. I ordered the Skillet Hash Farmhouse with spinach and no cheddar. My order was in and out, about 8 minutes! The waitress even came out to ensure I had said no cheddar or no cheese (dish was served with Monterey Jack as well). Kudos! The check was left on the table and I was able to pay promptly (personal kudos). Since the atmosphere was so nice, I decided to hang out a bit and sip my coffee. Business seemed to pick at around 10:00 am and the restaurant got a little louder (obvi), so I decided to open up the table for the waiting patrons. Overall great experience! As I sit here, waiting for a re-do of my omelette I wonder if I could've made a better selection. I asked for no pork products and on "the works" omelette. I did also order the chicken chimichurri hash as I had a two-for-one coupon that expires tomorrow. That dish was almost perfect and would definitely recommend. The eggs were ordered over medium but I would definitely say were over easy if not less. There was a lot of slime I had to remove but at that point of having the other dish completely wrong I just didn't want to complain. Their fresh Orange juice is really good, but it was a weird warm temperature especially since the water given in the carafe was ice cold. Not sure if that was intentional or not... Perhaps something to work on. When my server brought me the correct omelette he had me look at it and make sure it was okay. I got it with potatoes instead of salad. They didn't put the toast in the to-go container/was potentially missing. I'm not sure if you get potatoes instead of salad you no longer get toast? My server wrote everything down I requested. He notated no pork products and instead chicken sausage I saw him write it down. This doesn't seem to be the only review where the server gets it right but the kitchen gets it wrong.
