We went on a Sunday afternoon with a group of six and two big dogs (with reservation) and they got us a great table outside. Service was excellent -on the receipt Server's name as Shelbi but everyone who served us including the hostesses were great. We also found non metered free street parking a couple blocks away towards the residential area. Food- We got the oysters and raw scallops for appetizer-I ordered the Ichiban oysters. Both raw appetizers were fresh and delicious. I would hands down get both again. We also got the Maryland blue crab cake which is a single somewhat large crab cake. I personally did not feel the crab cake was cooked through enough as it was mushy/soggy and this was my least favorite item. I thought though that the other items and the amazing service made up for this. We also got the clam chowder, koshihikari rice (somewhat like seafood risotto), and each got the Connecticut style warm lobster rolls -which comes with fries. The clam chowder was a bit thin in consistency and less like a chowder... I wouldn't order that again either. The rice was truly unique and delicious and the lobster rolls were good but for 44 dollars I would have liked a bit more lobster. they split the rolls for you if you ask without charging you and they also helped us light the candles on the birthday cake and plated each slice on a nice plate (not disposable) without charging a cake cutting fee even though we brought in our own cake. As I stated the service here is phenomenal! I didn't do cocktails but everyone else liked their cocktails. I would recommend this restaurant and I would definitely be back. The seafood platter we saw the table next to us get looked really yummy and I would want to try it. The area nearby was really nice with little dessert ice cream shops and coffee shops.they even helped us to store the cake in their fridge for an hour after we ate while we walked around with the doggies. The octopus was delicious! We ordered an assortment of raw seafood, including the sea urchin, tuna tartare and scallops, served with toast points. We decided to try the key lime pie and it was fantastic. Seating is limited so make sure you reserve the spot you desire- indoor or outdoor. We were seated outdoors, as we did not have a reservation, and were quite chilly. One improvement would be offering blankets on cold nights. 4.5 stars Standouts for me were the Peruvian scallops (melts in your mouth with such a fresh zesty citrus marinade), crab cake (meat to breading ratio was excellent), and New England clam chowder (rich, warm, perfectly balanced by the crispy house made oyster crackers). The famous Koshihikari rice was a little too rich for my personal preference. The restaurant has limited seating and we ended up sitting at the bar - where we were served by the friendly bartender. In the future, I might come for some drinks and just hone in on the Peruvian scallops! The one thing that dampened our experience was the COLD - the door to the restaurant was open the entire night and the cold wind continuously blew in, forcing us to even change seats, I was forced to wrap myself in my beach towel. Really enjoyed this place! We had reserved a table inside which was great. Since it's super tiny in there you need to do so a few weeks in advance if you don't want to sit at the counter or outside. Our server was great and explained the menu to us since it was our first time there. We had the tuna tartare which was delicious, but an interesting setup and the octopus which was cooked perfectly. Our bartender/server, Sal was great. Very helpful. We got: half dozen oysters- good. Fresh. Not sure I know how to rate oysters. But the Half dozen of Peruvian scallops. Just wow. The grapefruit added to it was lovely. My husband who doesn't like grapefruit didn't mind it all. Crab cake- it's 1 large cake.....oh so delicious. Finally we got the tuna tartar. We've totally been sleeping on FWD! Having enjoyed our experience at Manhattan Beach Post many times, we always assumed the more casual, seafood focused sister restaurant next door would be a less incredible experience- boy were we wrong! We ordered the Hamachi Crudo, the Crab Cake, the Seared Diver Scallops and the Koshihikari Rice plus a dozen oysters (2 of each type on the menu that night). We also got the Key Lime and the Bread Pudding for dessert. Everything we ordered was stand out, and we were surprised to note that our least favorite dish was the Oysters. Our favorites were the Seared Diver Scallops with corn puree and the Hamachi Crudo. The sauces on both were master class - so much so that my husband pretty much licked the bowl. Our service was also top notch. We sat at the bar and were attended to by the bartender Elijah. He was so personal and knowledgeable- his drinks were also top notch. Even though the restaurant was slammed when we first arrived and the kitchen was slightly behind, he made sure we were considered and taken care of. He went above and beyond to make our evening memorable and was incredibly friendly and personable. From the food to the staff - everything about FWD was outstanding. 10/10 recommend. We discovered Fishing with Dynamite because it's one of the few restaurants close on westside that participates on InKind! This place is definitely is a local favorite because it was packed even on a weekday night! We opted to sit outside (despite needing puffer jackets due to the wind and cold) because our dog joined us. The waitress was super sweet and immediately got our dog water and asked us if it was okay if he got a few treats, to which Loki scarfed down in seconds. Moving onto the food: Koshihikari Rice (4/5): The flavors tasted great - it was almost like a risotto, which we didn't anticipate going into it. I would say the biggest let down was that though uni is listed as components for this dish, I didn't actually see or taste any uni - maybe it's blended into the sauce? Crab Cake (4/5): Tasted great, but I felt like the portion was on the smaller side for a 24 dollar appetizer. Comes with a side of salad, which was alright. I know that lump crab isn't cheap and it's an appetizer, but I really wish there was a bit more of it. Chilean Sea Bass (5/5): Amazing! I loved this dish so much, even though I was initially a little bit apprehensive about the orza (it initially reminded me of refried beans). The fish is buttery and cooked to perfection, the orza is full of flavor without overwhelming the taste of the fish. Everything in this dish works so well together - definitely a must order here. This dish is something that I think the restaurant can proudly call a signature dish - it's something that I really haven't seen done elsewhere and it's executed perfectly. Key Lime Pie (5/5): I've lived in South Florida for 6 years and have been to the Keys multiple times - this Key Lime Pie is the real deal. Perfectly tangy with the cream and merange to balance it out.. and if you want some extra lime punch, there's extra limes on the plate. The presentation and portion size was also perfect, another must order. Overall, the price point is pretty high (not surprising being a high quality seafood restaurant) - but participating with InKind definitely helps with how frequently InKind has discounts and promotions. We had a late afternoon reservation on a Saturday, and though we arrived early, we still had to wait a while after we were seated to order. Our server was knowledgeable about the allergens in each dish and assured me that the tostada and tortilla chips were gluten free because they are made in a different fryer, so there would be no cross-contamination. The only gluten-free entree option was the grilled fish and grilled shrimp tacos. We got the medium seafood tower and really enjoyed the oysters, mussels, shrimp, and Alaskan crab legs. The dipping sauces were very good, but we were hoping for a little something more adventurous like a granita for the oysters. The Mexican White Shrimp Ceviche was gluten free, but very disappointing in flavor. I could barely taste the citrus, and the serrano pepper tasted more like a lab grown jalapeño. Service was very slow. We had to wait and try to catch our server's attention several times because she didn't come around to check on us often. Since our food was coming as it was prepared, I thought my tacos would eventually come, but it turned out that our server forgot to put in my order. They came out quickly after I asked about them, but they were very unremarkable. Amazingly delicious! Everything was on point...food, service, ambiance. We created our own raw seafood platter consisting of oysters, cocktail shrimp, & Peruvian scallops. Followed by the Wild Spanish Octopus a La Plancha appetizer. The Misoyaki black cod and Lobstah Roll for the main course. Ended on a sweet note with Chocolate Pretzel Bread Pudding. All of their items had some unique twist to it that elevated taste and/or texture. Their cocktail shrimp had a savory nutty butteriness that kept the taste buds screaming for more. The octopus appetizer was perfectly cooked with a bouncy texture and when paired with the white bean muhammara and the mint to add a perk of freshness, excellent combo of mouth feels and taste. The bread pudding dessert was decadent and if the flavor burst alone wasn't enough, the light crisp bottom along with the soft middle enticed us to keep going for "one more bite" until every bite was gone. Wow, the seafood is so fresh! This is definitely the best seafood on Manhattan Beach. It's only a block away from the beach. The place is a cute little seafood shack except a little more nicer. I sat at the bar and there was very little wiggle room from the next person, but that made for great conversation to get to know your seat mates! I was convinced to try the Peruvian sea scallops, which is something I will definitely come back for next time I visit the beach! The oysters were fresh and the hamachi was light and refreshing. Do i even need to say more... too bad I have table manners because I would have literally taken a straw and sucked up every ounce of the broth, but that is completely secondary to the Black Cod! Yummy, supple, tasty, and flavorful! Light but meaty, satisfying and indulgent. Yes please bathe me with everything on that plate! Lastly- dessert - "KEY LIME PIE" w/ a graham cracker crust, italian lime meringue! Perfect,..... just the right amount of everything and the most satisfying way to end the evening meal. It wasn't heavy, not too tart not too lemony, an equal part crust, meringue and lime. The table next to us strong armed us into this delight, I think my next adventure would be to try the "CHOCOLATE PRETZEL BREAD PUDDING" but that will need to be for another adventure of dazzling tast'ography! Been awhile since I've been here, and glad to come back on Labor Day. We got the queen mary tower - so delicious. It's almost enough for 3 people but you'll want more food than just this. The only downside is when the ice melts, the sauces will sink and flood into the tower so take them out of the tower. Also got the shrimp boil - so good.
