This burger is awesome. I'd never been to Five Guys, despite a few locations being open in the area. One day I said, "screw it!", got in my car, and drove up here to the Plano/Frisco border. And boy was it worth it! Five Guys is everything that In-n-Out isn't: delicious and fast. In-n-Out prides themselves on their fresh-cut, natural fries. Their fries are gross. Five Guys, however, does fries right. There are bags and bags of potatoes lining the walls when you walk in. Yep, those bags contain the potatoes that will actually be your french fries. No frozen crap here. They're delicious: the right amount of crunchy while still being soft on the inside. Not overly salted or seasoned. Personally, I prefer the regular fries. I tried their Cajun fries once and wasn't blown away. They're good to try once (especially if you're dining in a group) though. Their burgers come in two sizes: little (1 patty) and regular (2 patties). Then load em up with toppings as you see fit. All the toppings (even mushrooms or grilled onions) are free, so go to town. The burgers are deliciously juicy and the patties aren't overly thick or thin. Everyone who was working here the 3-4 times I've been here have all been super friendly. They're happy to answer any questions you have and always call your order number out with a smile. As many have said, I do wish that they did milkshakes or something here, but Five Guys has come out on several occasions and said "No milkshakes". I'm really, really surprised that Five Guys doesn't get a higher star rating. I had my first Five Guys burger years ago when I used to live in DC, and was so happy when they started opening locations in DFW after we moved here. These burgers are messy but TASTY. I always get a double bacon cheeseburger with mayo, tomatoes, raw onions, and jalapenos. Extremely filling (this is my order even when not pregnant), like gut-busting filling, but worth it. I also love the cajun-style fries. One tip... don't waste your money ordering anything more than a small. They take a cup and a paper bag and dump a ton of fries in with a small, so unless you are on the verge of death starving, you really don't need more than an overflowing small. My only complaint is that they need a location in Dallas. But my hubs brings this home after work every so often, and even after the drive from Plano, the food is still really good! read more

I wanted to give this 3 1/2 stars because as far as the burger itself goes, it was just okay. I do appreciate the fresh jalapenos instead of the typical pickled (even though they were not particularly spicy, not the restaurants fault) and the fact that you can get any combination of their toppings at no additional cost. I could have used a little more lettuce and maybe some salt on the patty. I will say the cajun fries were better than excellent, which is why I wanted to give is 3 1/2 stars vs. 3. The atmosphere is okay, typical burger joint and for some reason the sizzling of the grill was kind of irritating to me...yea, know, strange, but the sound was very prominent to me. Maybe I was just irritable, I don't know. It won't keep me away. Now, the reason I bumped it up to 4 stars....the people sitting next to us somehow ended up with burgers with no bun. Now, I wouldn't say the manager handled it perfectly (I would have offered to cook them another burger), but he was obviously concerned and he seemed to do what he could to fix the situation. Kudos to the people for not making a scene when the could have, but they seemed to be satisfied with the situation. I think this is the first time answer for years that I've been to five guys. I really like the store for a couple of reasons. First reason everybody is working, nobody's sitting down, even the manager was out working. I don't mean walking around doing nothing, I mean she was out there busting it with everybody else, hope and sweep the floor, helping cook, helping take orders, helping to refill stations and so on. I've seen managers just sit back at a table and watch people work, as if they no longer had to do anything other than order people around. But not in this store! Mad respect! The second reason is the food that I ordered was awesome! I got a bacon cheeseburger with the free extras that I wanted, and it was juicy, the meat was cooked completely through, the bacon was crisp but not too brittle as if it were old, the French fries were fresh and hot plus even on the small order I'm still taking some home. Wonder how they will taste the second time around? Lol. Anyway, in short this was a 5 star experience, the employees were great, they had a sense of humor especially when I asked for a sheet of aluminum foil that they normally wrap hamburgers. The young man jokingly wanted to make sure I would not ingest said aluminum foil, I told him no I was going to mainline it! We all had a really good laugh. That is good business, having a good rapport with your customers and smiling the whole time. Question is, will I be back? You bet your ass I will be! From what I've been told, this place has an east coast following the same way In n Out has a west coast one. I swung by a few weeks ago to try out their burger and it was delicious. Not the healthiest of options, but nothing hits the spot like a burger and fries. The menu is very simple, not many options. Burgers, hot dogs, and fries - that's it. I finally decided to check out 5 bros, after hearing that this is the "In 'N Out" burger of the east coast, and hearing all the hype. Heading south on Preston makes it difficult to get to the place The building is very cramped. The line was short because it was 1:30pm. The cashier didn't seem to excited and I felt like I was at any other fast food joint. I ordered a cheeseburger with mustard, lettuce, tomato, pickle, onion. $5.29 (Did not know that this was double meat. Very very deceiving. Had I known this I would have ordered "The little burger" one patty) I ordered the smallest order of fries (enough for two since my wife helped me eat them) $2.79 WTF! My large 32oz drink was $2.09. My total was $11.01. I guess I understand why they call it "Five Guys" I felt like I was paying for it five times...I am slightly joking but a combo for 8-9 dollars with tax would have been nice. While I waited for my food, I tried to sit down in their cramped seating area, while getting my head bumped into by the person sitting behind me. My wife got up to refill my drink while I ate, and the seating is so close that someone pushed in her chair and when she returned she had to pull it back out. They had Cherry Coke my favorite and it had the right Co2 ratio and was perfect. My meal arrived very quickly. The fries were cooked perfectly and had that "State Fair" quality and taste. They use freshly cut potatoes from Idaho. The burger patties were the right size,seasoning and flavor. The bun seemed a little bit smashed up They definitely use quality cheese and toppings. In a way the burgers seemed almost a little bit like they were cooked on my Dad's grill rather than professionally. Things they could change...The atmosphere. It was small, crampped,using bags of potatoes instead of those ropes for a line indicator is tacky. Red and white tile has been used a million times for 50+ years by other places. While cooking their burgers they should "score" them with the side of the spatula rather than smashing the juices out of them. If they do this, then on the juices (blood) will rise to the top of the burger and on the final flip this blood will then be burned off while retaining juicy burger. I took a star away because of the price, I took a star away because of the atmosphere. Next time I go I will bring someone with me. We will order two "Little Burgers" the same small fries and skip the drinks. We will take this to go and eat it in the car. By doing this I will save 10 dollars and have a better experience. Can someone tell me why Five Guys is not getting a better rating than IN-n-Out Burger..geez. Five Guys has the burger market covered for me. Just burgers and Fries and both done well. I am giving them a Five Star for the Burgers and the way they do them..no frills, no fuss..just get after it. As my followers know..I don't give out the FIVE STAR very often..so this is the real deal for Burgers.. They give you enough fries in a regular order to feed three people..wonder how many you get in a LARGE order??? Just keep bringing them on..they are great. Got back to office and all it had were 2 patties cheese and BBQ sauce. I had heard so much about this place especially since they have been ranked as the best burger in 2010 and some of the best fries to boot. It was pretty good...very good but I am not sure about the best. I had the traditional cheeseburger and you can choose whatever toppings you'd like for no extra charge. I opted for onions, pickles, mustard, and mushrooms even though I wanted a lot more. Maybe that is just stomach greediness. Got some fries to boot with the Cajun spice for some kick. They had peanuts to snack on while you wait and even these were of good quality. Lets break everything down. Food - Tasty, juicy burger and the toppings were of great quality. The pickles were thick and crisp and a perfect counter to the mushrooms. The bun was the weakest point of the burger because it fell apart a bit and that made it pretty messy. The patty wasn't too thick and could have been mistaken for a single thick patty. Their fries were pretty good but not as highly touted as everyone else seems to think. The spice had some heat but was a bit bland. The price was over $10 for a combo...doesn't break the bank but it isn't cheap. Atmosphere - Mix Kanye West with a 50's diner. Everything was red and white and nothing fancy except all of the patting on their own back all over the wall. Their reviews and compliments were blown up and plastered over every inch. This place has the biggest ego I have ever seen. This was the biggest downside I thought. The digs could have been a lot better, there was nothing that made me want to stay at all. Overall - The food is well received for a reason, it is just plain tasty. Overrated, maybe but that doesn't make the food crappy just because everyone else likes it a little too much. The actual restaurant is a throwback that is a little too cocky, which I think turns a lot of people off. This gets a high recommendation but get it to go, or sit outside. read more

I have been with people who ordered the veggie sandwich and the bacon cheeseburger. They both liked their sandwiches. If you order fries, prepare to be amazed at the order size. You can share the fries. Oh and they have peanuts in the shell. Love that! Be warned that if you have a peanut allergy you probably don't want to walk in since the peanuts are just out in a box and people are eating them all over the store. read more

Five guys makes a pretty decent burger and the mini-sized option is more than enough to fill up the average jane, especially at lunch. The burgers are fully customizable and jalapenos are available, which makes me smile. I also love the salty, skin-on heap o'fries you get, even in a small order. And to me, there is something fun about the white board at the front of the store that tells where the potatoes for the day's fries came from (but maybe that's because I have a soft spot for Idaho which, not surprisingly, was where Monday's fries came from). I have heard so many things about this place so I was extremely eager to try it. We (my hubby and I) stopped by and I was not expecting what I saw. I got nervous because I thought it was going to be another In and Out burger. We ordered our food and sat down and waited. I was happy they had peanuts and I will say they were delish! So we got our food and I was a little disappointed on the size of the burger. For the price I thought it would be something bigger. I will say the burger was delicious and I loved the fries! The reason I can't rate it higher is because we can get a way bigger burger at Burger Island (Preston and Beltline) for the same price. If the prices were cheaper I would definitely be back. I consider myself a hamburger connoisseur/junkie and go out of my way to sample the top burgers across the country. That being said, I think this is the best fast-food burger I've had in recent memory. Better than In-and-Out and certainly better than the offerings from McDonald's, Jack in the Box, Wendy's, etc. What separates 5 Guys from the rest? The toppings. It's all about the toppings. Unlimited fresh and tasty toppings, which include grilled mushrooms and onions. The choose your own toppings approach also means that your burger is made-to-order. The meat is a little weak, but no worse than what you'd find at the above-referenced places. The double patty comes standard, but the single patty is extremely thin (patt-ette is probably more appropriate). The quality of buns is average for a fast-food burger (eg, resembles grocery store buns). 5 Guys delivers good local value. In my "burger quest," I've come across tastier and better value burgers (see JuicyBurger in LA for just one example of a (much) better burger for lower price), but 5 Guys is very solid. Additional props for tasty (although at times unevenly cooked) french fries (also cool that they say which potato farm provided the potatoes) and the no-logo approach to napkins, cups, and bags (let the food speak for itself). read more

I wasn't that impressed with this placed when I tried it out on 2/27/10. I went after 1 p.m. and it was still very crowded and crammed. They serve free peanuts, so the shells were everywhere. The burger just doesn't compare to Mooyah. The burgers and fries looks like Mooyah, but the taste just isn't there. Although the fries were crispier than mooyah's, the burger just wasn't there for me. I'd even go as far to say that Smashburger is better. But it's worth a visit if you've never been and want to find out what all the talk is about. You just may not go back if you have a Mooyah near you. read more

Jan 2014: Unless you are very hungry get the little burger as it only has one patty. Suggest getting just onions rather than grilled onions which makes the bun wet and soggy. UPDATE Aug 2015: Return visit after a 1 1/2 yrs. Still recommend a little burger as one patty is quite enough along with sharing a small order of fries. That was by far the worse meal I've had at 5 Guys Burgers & Fries. First of all when you order they call out the number of patties you have on your order combined, so you think if you order 2 sandwiches they would be ready at the same time. Not the case this time. One sandwich miraculously was made 10 mins before the other and sat there and got cold, while the other was just started. Then they pulled the fries out at the same time the first sandwich was done, because they were limp, soggy with grease and not edible by the time I got em home. Not one single fry was crispy. My sandwich which was done first was cold, and the double patties put together was equivalent to one quarter pounder burger at McDonalds. $20 for dinner and that will not happen again there. Five Guys wasn't really that good it was like ok. The burger was ok except for the bacon it was over cooked and crisp like that bad kind of crisp like you can't tell what's fat and what's the meat. The fries were bad, because they were burnt and the oil was pretty old. The thing that made the fries a little better was ketchup. Now on to the scenery, the tables were really small and the trash can was really nasty I know it's a trash can and it's supposed to be dirty but McDonald's can keep their trash cans cleaner on the outside. Basic, but good burgers. This isn't any kind of fancy burger place, so when you want the basics, come here! The little cheeseburger is just right and seriously get the smallest fry and it will be more than enough split between two people. Love the fancy soda machine. Workers are young and nice. I admit I'm not here to review a burger - I'm a dog lover. And I love Five Guys' hot dog. I order it with bacon, mustard and onions. Yummy. And I always get the cajun fries, though after the first trip I learned my lesson and always get the small order because holy crow! that's a lot of fried potato.
