A little taste of DC here in San Antonio. I'm so excited they opened one of these up here!!!! If you've never eaten at a Five Guys before, the concept is simple: 1. Choose your burger: just meat, w/ cheese, w/ bacon, w/ bacon & cheese. And I guess they have grilled cheeses and hot dogs too, but it's called Five Guys Burger and Fries.....so I say stick with a burger (be careful, the "regular" burger comes with two meat patties and the "little" burgers come with one meat patty) 2. Choose your toppings There's a plethora of stuff to choose from and it's all FREE! Mayo, ketchup, mustard, A-1 sauce, BBQ suace, hot sauce, Relish, onions, grillled onion, lettuce, pickles, tomatoes, grilled mushrooms, jalapenos, and green peppers 3. Choose your Fries They make their fries from fresh cut potatoes - all different types. They always have a chalkboard with the name of the potato variety for the day. 4. Choose your drink Simple? Yes! Good? HELL YES! I'm an In-N-Out loyalist, but when I lived in DC, this place was the closest thing to a cheap and good burger. My only gripe is that they don't have milkshakes and they don't serve beer, but that can be overlooked. As for this specific location, the place is located in Quarry Village, right next to the Quarry Market. Despite being really swamped at lunch, everyone working behind the counter was really friendly and genuinely seemed happy to help you. After visiting the Quarry for some holiday shopping this past Monday, my friend offered to take me to lunch at this local Five Guys. I had not had a good burger in quite some time so I was quick to agree even though I had never been to this location and I know sometimes franchise spots can be a miss. There is no doubt in my mind that this location of Five Guys is one of the absolute best the company has to offer. I mean- WOW. First, the main reason for my effusive praise, the customer service is impeccable. I suppose it says a lot about the general sad state of most customer service in restaurant or fast food establishments for me to take so much notice and be so thrilled by it, but there it is. From the moment we walked in the gentlemen behind the counter greeted us warmly and weirdly (a thick cartoonish accent he was affecting certainly brought smiles to mine and my friends faces this holiday season). The employees behind him all seemed to work like clockwork together, and it was a fairly busy lunch hour so it was further impressive that they were smiling. We each ordered the little variety of cheese burger and one order of the Cajun fries to share since neither of us had tried them before. Our food took very little time to make and within minutes of us getting it and sitting down the young man was asking if there was anything else we needed. We were digging in and everything was GREAT. The burgers were fresh and warm, the lettuce and tomato crisp and delicious, and the sauteed mushrooms I added to mine were the perfect extra touch to a solidly delicious cheese burger. The seasoning on the Cajun fries was YUM. I could have eaten one order by myself, probably, which is saying something because their orders of fries are HUGE. Before we left we were checked on by two different employees, asking how we were and telling us that if we needed anything else just to ask them. They were so friendly and nice that it took my holiday spirit levels to a completely new place, so I thank them all for that profusely. I was having a quasi-rough day so far and being able to smile was as good for my soul as the food was good for my hunger pangs. In conclusion, great atmosphere, clean location, quick service, friendly employees, and delicious food served fast. THIS is my burger spot of choice now. read more

This place is basically a fast food joint disguised as a burger restaurant. The burgers are above average for fast food, and the ingredients are fresh, but the only difference between this place and Whataburger is the lack of a drive-thru and the GROSSEST FRIES EVER. I'm sorry about using caps, but seriously. Don't eat the fries. They're just large limp pieces of unevenly fried potatoes. That being said, the burgers are fine. Everything is well put-together, and you know what you're in for when they hand you a brown paper bag that already has a grease stain in the bottom. The meat is well-cooked for a fast-food joint -- it's not overly burnt, and it doesn't taste like frozen meat. The cheese is NOT melted, which seems almost like a burger tragedy in itself, but they do a nice job of grilling their mushrooms and onions -- the two highlights of the burger in my opinion. Overall, if you're going to a chain burger restaurant, why not go to Five Guys. It's not worse (or cheaper) than Red Robin, Johnny Rockets, Fuddruckers, etc. etc. So might as well. read more

When paying for the food (for 2 people) I was thinking, "wow, this is kind of expensive." And then we were handed the food- and it was totally justified. I wish I got a picture of our burgers, but my goodness, they were worth it. If you order a regular burger, and get full on a normal level, I recommend cutting the burger in half and saving the rest for later. Because let me tell you, YOU WILL GET FULL. See past Yelper's pictures for examples. The burgers are a good handful. And also, being the fools that we are, we ordered the large fries. We were thinking this would be like a McDonalds serving of fries. Oh, man, oh man, were we greatly mistaken. The large order is more than enough for 3 or 4 people, let alone 2. Needless to say, we did not, and could not finish the meal. So granted, for a bacon cheese burger, another cheese burger, 2 drinks and a large order of fries, we spent a little over $20 for 2 people. We're broke college students, so this was an ouch. But as I said, that order would probably feed us both for another meal had we saved half of it. So really, that's a $10 meal for 2 people. They have the biggest and baddest fries around. The little cheeseburger is perfect for my BW. I am on a Frankfurter kick. When I was a kid working at Howard Johnson on the Pa. Turnpike, a hot dog was an item that had uncertain ingredients. A Frankfurter was all beef. These Franks are also Kosher and come with cheese and bacon for more money. The Kosher Frank arrived with raw onions and jalapenos. The second one had fried onions. (Winner). They only have yellow mustard. Boo. Brown rules, and there are so many tasty varieties. The 4 star rating is deceptive as there was one fatal flaw that existed with the burger that made me hem and haw on whether they deserved the 4 stars vice 3. Went here with the misses as its close to my house and she was craving 1 to 2 large slabs of ground-up grilled dead cow for dinner. The service was very good considering this was fast food. Additionally, the help yourself to unlimited in-shell peanuts didn't hurt either during the wait. The cheeseburgers with the works was better than I was expecting for a chain restaurant. The fries were good too, but best enjoyed steaming hot. The Cajun spices on mine gave it a little extra kick. However, the cardinal sin of any burger joint trying to set itself apart from the other chains is not using REAL CHEESE!!!!! Using processed cheese slices is like going on a date with a very attractive women and seeing her dentures fall out during dinner. After franchising a few years ago, Five Guys has begun to expand across the nation and has become the hot topic of fast food burger joints. The fries are really the star of the show at Five Guys. They're cut so fresh that there's a sign on the wall telling you from which state today's spuds originated. They're thick cut and fried in peanut oil and are amongst the best fries you'll get at a fast food restaurant. You can get your fries seasoned in two ways - regular and Cajun. The regular are unadulterated, down to even the inclusion of salt - each time I've had them, I don't think they were salted at all. The Cajun is the complete opposite end of the spectrum, with the fries arriving coated in Old Bay seasoning. They're good, though messy, and because of the heavy seasoning, I don't think I'd be able to polish off an entire serving of them every visit. Surprisingly, I found the burgers less sufficient. The burgers are freshly made little 1/4 pound discs which are cooked to well-done and have had all the fat squished out of them. To offset the little patties, you have your choice of over a dozen condiments, ranging from mushrooms to barbecue sauce. I like the ability to customize, but even a small addition to the burgers leaves the bun soggy and everything else dripping down your hand as you try to eat it. I appreciate a tightly-made burger that I can put down and pick up again when I'm ready to resume eating. At Five Guys, once you take your first bite, you're in it for the long haul. On the whole, the taste is fine, but I fail to see what all the hubbub is about. I'm sure there are many people who don't mind a flat burger that's well-done and covered with a slew of condiments, but for me, I go to Five Guys for the fries and, while I'm there, I get a burger, too. read more

My wife and I got the little burgers and shared a large fry. Decent burger. if it was me making them I would warm the bun before serving it. The bun had a lot of flavor and seems extra chewy. Five Guys burgers have to make some of the most delicious burgers I've had I awhile. I came here only because I had a cash back deal on my debit card. I ordered the bacon cheeseburger and a drink. The patty is fresh and not frozen. The bacon was crispy until the very last bite. I LOVE crispy bacon and this place made it perfectly crisp. The burger has an all around great taste. I usually don't like thick pickle chips, but these pickles did the burger right. I wish they had combo meals. You have to order everything separately and depending on what you order, your meal can run close to $15-$20 for one person. That's the only reason I gave them 4 stars was because of price. Otherwise, great tasting burgers, relaxed diner-ish environment, and friendly staff. I'll be back for the bacon cheeseburger again. **UPDATE** I just checked my receipt and the lady charged me for a kids bacon cheeseburger which is about $2 cheaper than the regular one. I'm not sure how big the regular burger is, but the kids size burger is a pretty decent size. Not a little slider size burger you would get at most places. Instead you get your choice between a regular burger, which is a double meat patty or a little burger, a single patty, which your choice of toppings. Fun burger joint with a red and white checker motif. I got the little (one patty) because it looked pretty big for being "little" and a regular sized order of cajun fries. The cool thing about the burgers here is that you can customize yours with all the toppings that they offer for free. Anyway, the burgers here are super juicy and the the buns are fresh and soft. So, I am a big fan. The fries, however, are a different story. I was looking forward to the special 'cajun' seasoning and was so disappointed. While you do get a huge serving (hello, bottom of the bag fries!) they are just sooo greasy. These are freshly cut fries, but they are not crispy at all. Overrated. All i hear about is how good five guys is. so what is so special? Saying they have a limited menu, so it must be good is like saying a ca manufacturer only makes one type of car so it must be the best car. I know about menu focus, (which usually leads to quality product), but that is different from just not selling items to give the perception of quality and focus. They sell hamburgers they serve fries (I know they are fresh cut, but whatever) the fries are greasy and create a brown bag like Al Bundy brought home to his family in Married with Children. The place makes you FEEL greasy after eating there. They have peanut bags lined up on the wall. It costs 20 bucks for 2 burgers 2 drinks and an order of fries. I didn't dislike the food, but I have no intention of returning. I don't understand what makes Five Guys so good in other people's eyes. Heaven on a bun. I really enjoyed these burger and fries and all of their greasy goodness. The regular burger comes with two patties and the fries are enough for two people. The Cajun seasoning on the fries is a super blend of favor. My daughter got a hot dog, "the best ever" she claims. She also once claimed Miley Cyrus is the best singer ever! Walking in it was very busy on a Saturday around 2:30pm... which I guess I kind of expected. I've heard about this place before and have been to Smashburger so we thought we'd give this place a shot to see what it had to offer. It's great that the toppings don't cost any extra and at first I was a little apprehensive about having such a busy burger. The lady at the counter was totally right when she said, "Go for it" though LOL. The meat tasted great and the cheese was melted so thoroughly between the two patties. It was greasy (come on it's a burger) but not as greasy as other places I've been. We didn't have any fries or peanuts and we stuck with water as a drink. Overall it was a pretty nice budget lunch, we only spent $13 for 2 great burgers. The only con was how close all the tables were to each other, I'm sure it's necessary in such a small space with so much business but I wasn't a big fan of hearing everyone's conversation and of them hearing mine. read more
