It has been nearly a decade since my last visit - wow! We were looking for a place that appealed to everyone in the group and this fit the bill. I remember the burgers being huge unwieldy monsters that required dexterity and at least 5 napkins. Things have changed. I had the guacamole burger this time and everything was absolutely perfect! Burgers come with mayo, mustard, lettuce, tomato, pickle, and onion standard, but you can opt out of whatever you don't like. The amount of guac was well proportioned with the rest of the burger. The bun is hearty enough to withstand the burger and its fillings but definitely NOT thick, heavy, or too much for the sandwich. The sandwich itself is smaller than the over-the-top burgers they used to serve, but they are a great value for the price and a more reasonable serving size, even for a big appetite. Service was with a smile. The only downside is the building itself. While I love the vibe and that so much has changed around this place while the restaurant itself stays the same, it could use a bit of a refresh. It was clean! No complaints there; but a wee bit of paint would not go amiss. Def on my list for my next SA visit. read more

Food is always great! However, came in for a quick lunch, not too busy maybe 5-6 tables were occupied (1:00PM). Our "host" wasn't at all pleasant or friendly. I was kind of shocked because usually everyone is nice at the other locations we've been too. This was our first time at the Blanco Rd location. The "host" rattled off the scripted dialogue that been used a thousand times I'm sure. No smiles, or happiness came from the "host". While my wife was placing her order with the "host", she was cut off by the "host" if this was a combo or not. Ok, combo please. Before my wife could speak to say no tomatoes, the "host" asked everything on it, anything else?? I replied I would have the double meat (which includes double cheese). The "host" asked, double meat double cheese? (Thinking in my head, Well, yes, that is what the big menu says). Take note, this all took about 15-20 seconds for the "host" to complete our order, it was so fast and rushed. Destroyed the spelling of my name by the way, I'm a man with a beard. Lastly, my wife asked for a to-go cup for her drink, the "host" in a shoving manner, gave her a cup. While we love Longhorn Cafe, after this experience, we'll stick to our favorite locations and avoid Blanco Rd. read more

This is one of my hamburger hangout spots. I love Longhorn Cafe's hamburgers and this spot is my preferred location. It is also the original one, so there is that distinction. Longhorn's hamburgers, in my opinion, are the best. They are juicy, big and filled with tomato, lettuce pickles and mayo. For people who like their hamburgers full, this is the best. Gentrification is in every direction in San Antonio, but Longhorn Cafe still gives me that nostalgic vibe that I long for in every comfort food establishment. They're primarily a burger joint and the kind that comes with zero pretense or caloric restriction. in other words, come for the food coma and bring some good company. The setup is simple: head the counter, order the food, and find a place to sit. There are picnic benches and various group tables scattered across their dining area, along with the kind of decor that makes them family friendly and an ideal place for a casual meal. The staff is usually a lineup of young folks, usually in full hustle mode while making and serving food. While I felt the burgers were a bit dressed up / messy, the actual (angus) burger patty was nicely cooked and full of flavor. The Big Juicy is their signature burger and it lived up to the juicy hype. They also have non-beef alternatives, from turkey to chicken sandwiches and the veggie blackbean. There are also hotdogs and even a frito pie. The chili fries, nachos, and tots all made for gut-bomb worthy sides, though I was most impressed with the fried dill pickles and jalapeño poppers. They also have fried chicken and fried fish dinner combos. Couple this with any of their bottled beers or drinks on ice and it's most definitely a meal. They have plenty of local support and I can see the appeal. Longhorn Cafe looks like what everyone thinks a Texas burger bar should look like. Wooden tables and wall accents crowd the edges while an island of beer bottles drowns in front of the ordering line. The open kitchen is a fun sight as you wait to order and does smell good. The signature Big Juicy is the popular choice - a burger with a beef patty, veggies, and toasted buns. Unfortunately neither that burger or the others on the menu pack much flavor. They should taste more interesting than beef and vegetables. However, the tater tots are an excellent compliment and would be a welcomed addition to any burger menu. It does help that staff is friendly and that there's ample parking. We went here today. Great food and service. They really don't know how to do onion rings extra crispy, but that's ok. I had the bacon cheeseburger, 1/2 onion rings 1/2 tator tots. Longhorn makes probably the best hamburger you will have in San Antonio. They are in our neighborhood, and we have been going there for years. This evening, however, was an unpleasant experience. Although the burgers were excellent, a young woman in the kitchen was talking way too loudly and hurling the f--k words and s--t words like an uncontrollable fire on the stove. From the road this place looks like it can only seat 10, but it is fairly spacious. They are a burger place with lots of fried foods. I had the "horn" which was two hamburger patties sandwiching jalapeños and cheese, smothered in onions. The flavor was pretty bland, and it was extremely greasy. My sides were green beans, cooked with bacon, and a house salad. This would normally warrant a 3 star for being ok to me. All in all a great casual lunch and $15 for burger fries and a drink with tip is a good deal. Omg this place is delish! The long lines prove it too. Thankfully we ordered to-go. We ordered two burgers and split a half fries half onion rings basket. Way too much food for any two people to eat in one sitting. I had the big juicy and juicy it was!!! The bun was grilled perfectly with all of the right crispness on the edges. The burger was tasty and the produce was fresh. The husband had the jalapeño burger and he loved his as well. The fries were on the soggy sad sides and no seasoning on them but those onion rings were a tangled mess of perfectness. Definitely order the onion rings!
