First let me say there are not a lot of choices for sushi in this area. Without having to drive far there's really only two. With that in mind I came here with pretty low expectations. The restaurant is pretty plain and definitely nothing special. They have some Chinese food under warmers ready to go, and some friends have told me it's pretty decent and reasonably priced. They had added sushi to the menu and that was what interested me. I've been back two or three times and have to say I was surprised that the quality of the fish was better than I would expect for a restaurant of this caliber. It's definitely cheap sushi, and not anything incredible, but considering there is literally nothing else in the area it's decent. If you are in Lincoln heights and want a rainbow roll, this will do you right. If you want something amazing you can drive 10 minutes and get something much better, but I feel like it's important to promote variety in our neighborhood. read more

Combo 2 is good. I called Five Star Chinese Food and asked that they make it extra spicy and send some soy sauce. It's not extra spicy, and they sent one packet of soy sauce. The Egg Rolls are not crispy, but the vegetables inside are overcooked and mushy. Not sure how they overcooked the inside, and the outside is undercooked. The CHICKEN WINGS are horrible. Stumbled upon this spot while craving sushi and it was genuinely so good. The service was warm, attentive, and made the experience even better. We ordered a few rolls along with the beef and chicken bowls, and everything was fresh, flavorful, and super satisfying. Favorites of the night were the Lincoln Heights Roll and the lobster roll, these two are a MUST in your order. They also offer ramen, which I'll definitely try next time, along with a wide variety of rolls and bowls we still need to try. Prices are reasonable and portions are VERY generous. I strongly believe in supporting local small businesses, but my experience at this establishment was incredibly disappointing. I arrived 45 minutes before closing time, unaware that they were shutting down soon. To be polite, I asked the employee at the counter (a woman with tattoos) if it was still okay to place an order. While she said yes, her delivery was shockingly rude, hostile, and completely unprofessional. She then informed me that the kitchen could no longer prepare fresh food because they were closing soon, leaving me to choose only from what was left in the display counter. Despite the terrible attitude, I decided to stay and support the business. I ordered two large plates and one bowl, which came out to about $33. The portions were incredibly small for the price. To make matters worse, she treated the customer right behind me with the exact same dismissive, rude demeanor, causing that patron to walk out immediately. During my order, I noticed there were four spicy wings left in the tray. Since the order comes with three, and they were minutes away from closing and throwing the food out, I politely asked if I could have the last remaining wing. She flatly refused and insisted on charging me an extra $2 for a single piece. When I got home, the food was completely inedible. The rice was rock-hard, the chow mein was incredibly bland and poorly prepared, and the entire meal lacked any flavor. I ended up having to throw the entire $33 order into the trash. Between the abysmal customer service, the hostile attitude from the staff, and the awful quality of the food, I will absolutely not be returning. Save your money and go somewhere where customers are actually treated with respect. read more

Well I was in the cravings of some Chinese food and I heard a lot of good things about out the joint and idk what but it was terrible! The sign says they open at 10:30am dude didn't open till 10:51am and I was waiting for a good minute I finally go in and they hardly had anything ready I ordered chowmein, beef w broccoli & Mushroom Chicken. The Chowmein had a bad order like it was expired/spoiled I got 1 piece of beef with the beef with broccoli and no chicken inside the mushroom chicken it was basically chunks of chopped squash and 3 sliced mushrooms and no chicken inside. The old Asian man asked how was it and i said it nice I'm sorry but it was awful and showed him the plate it was not worth $13.75, he says ohh I can give you more beef and chicken and I said no it's fine it was the entire plate over all. The restaurant was spotless nice and clean but it was hot as an over he had an air conditioning system and didn't bother to turn it on. 10/20/2025 tried the Lincoln heights roll - different rice fresh - fish THINLY sliced. Rainbow roll - the fish, AVOCADO, SHRIMP slice was VERY thin, but it was fresh salmon roll - the fish slice was VERY thin, but it TASTED fresh i also ordered a 1 combo plate - mushroom chicken, fried rice and noodles - mushroom chicken was ok, noodles are noodles, fried rice not much flavor. Living in Lincoln Heights I thoroughly enjoyed the local Mexican food offerings, and wanted to have something different once in awhile so I would give Five Star a try here and there. Each time the meals were very bland or off tasting, and the restaurant itself was not anything enjoyable to look at. Tried it about 4 times in total and vowed this was not going to be our go-to place. Chinatown is a couple minutes away, and I'd recommend making the extra effort to go to any other Chinese restaurant in Chinatown. read more

It is now February 2025. So far, I have tried out their Pork Bulgogi, Chicken Yaki Udon, Cherry Blossom, Hawaiian Roll, Albacore Delight, Bake Salmon, Japanese Lasagna, Kamikaze, Volcano, Tofu Chow Mein, Beef Chow Fun, Dynamite Roll, Dragon Roll, Lincoln Heights Roll, Tiger Roll, Crunchy Roll, Tamago, Salmon, Albacore, Shrimp, Tofu Skin, Tuna, Eel, and Super White Tuna. Here are the positives. The entire Bake Rolls section of the paper menu, plus their Dynamite Roll, Dragon Roll, Lincoln Heights Roll, Tiger Roll and Crunchy Roll. you can't really go wrong with any of these sushi rolls. All of them are basically California Rolls with different sauce and toppings. Like I mentioned in my previous review, it's pretty hard to mess up a California Roll so if you like California Rolls, you get more of the same but with the addition of a variety of sauces and toppings, depending on which one you get. I liked all of them and I would, hands down, order any of them any day of the week, if I wanted sushi, You get 8 pieces each, some pickled veggies, cucumber, ginger, REAL wasabi (at least, since my last review), and a Lee Kum Kee soy sauce packet. Here are the negatives. Cherry Blossom was not what I expected it to be. This is basically grounded up sashimi wrapped into a ball of sliced avocado. It's interesting, but to me, it just felt like I'm eating mostly avocado so that's basically what I tasted. On the plus side, there are NO odd smells nor that classic fishy taste. Me personally? I wouldn't order it again but for the novelty, you should give it a try, even though it wasn't my cup of tea. Albacore Delight and Hawaiian Roll are variations of a different but also common sushi roll, namely, the Tuna Roll. Like the California Roll, it's pretty hard to mess up this type of sushi roll unless you use subpar or mediocre tuna. These two happen to be the latter. The only saving grace are the sauces and toppings. On an overall scale, I think they tasted fine with the sauces and toppings but I wouldn't order these again. Like the other Fresh Rolls, you get 8 pieces with a side of pickled veggies, cucumber, ginger, REAL wasabi and a soy sauce packet. Tofu Chow Mein is not what I expected either. I was under the impression that they would use a different type of egg noodle but this wasn't the case. The same chow mein that you see in those steel trays is the same chow mein that you will get along with 12 perfectly fried tofu pieces that are unfotunately, largely tasteless, except the classic fried tofu taste. And I LOVE tofu, in all of their varieties. I'm Chinese and I grew up with eating tofu. It's pretty hard to mess up tofu. Tofu absorbs all of the flavors of whatever sauces and/or items that you cook it with. This one, unfortunately, failed. I was basically eating a significantly smaller portion-sized Combo#2 or 2-item combo plate but both items being tofu and at what used to be $9.99 but has risen to $10.99--a $1.00 increase since my last update review in Nov 2024. They did not charge me the $8.99 as called out on the paper menu. They charged me $9.99. Beef Chow Fun. The flat rice noodles portion of this item is cooked correctly. If you've ever eaten good, plain Ho Fun at a Cantonese-style restaurant, you know what I'm talking about. The beef slices, however, are the wrong cuts of the cow to use for this dish. They used some type of beef chuck meat. It's tough, hard to chew, and a lot of the pieces had inedible gristle on them. The beef slices are supposed to be thinly sliced, tender, juicy, easy to chew--like fall off the bone 'easy to chew'--with some fatty cuts to give it this bacon-like, smokey flavor. The portion size is also those smaller, brown takeout boxes. For $14.95, this is not worth it and I wouldn't order it again. Pork Bulgogi. This is just like the Beef Bulgogi but with pork. It tasted fine but honestly, I wouldn't order this again. Chicken Yaki Udon. This one is bad. The soup is 'meh,' the udon was 'meh,' and the chicken was 'meh'. Overall, it's a 'meh'. I hate to use this as a comparison but I would have been better off just buying a 5-pack of instant udon at a local Japanese supermarket and cooking this myself with my own cuts of chicken. I wouldn't order this again. The enitre sushi section on the paper menu, the only good one's are the Egg, Tofu Skin and Eel. The rest of them are 'meh'. They tasted fine but I wouldn't order those again. Also, WARNING, you only get 1-piece per item unless otherwise explicitly called out on the paper menu. I'm guessing the same would be true for the Basic Roll and Fried Roll sections. Overall, I think the overall best bang-for-your-buck and consistent food quality and taste will still be the Combo#2 or 2-Item plate in those steel trays. The rest of the new stuff on their new menu is a neat idea and i give them A+ for effort but the price-to-proportion (or quality), just isn't there. I would still come back for their 2-item plate any day of the week. read more

Got two different kinds of bowls, both were unseasoned. The tofu bowl had a teriyaki type sauce that was gelatinous, despite being piping hot. The food was quick, the price wasn't bad, and the service was good, but the recipes could be improved in order for me to return. read more

I came here because it was on the way to my destination. I'm typically very shy to come back and say something about the food if something is wrong I just let it go. However, this time I actually came to this restaurant to return the food. The food was tasteless in addition to being old and soggy. The fried rice had no flavor and the mushroom chicken was old. When we walked in there were no people but we still decided to give it a try. It was bad enough for me to not be shy anymore and walked back and ask for my money back. The lady was rude and ignored my request she said "this is not a store to return anything" which I agree is not a store but the food is not eatable. Not to mention that for a SMALL BOWL she charged me $9.99. I'm okay paying if the food is good I don't care about the price because sometime the smallest amount of food is worth the price, not in this case though. That was special. The salmon on top was charred and had a Smokey flavor. Not burnt but tasted nice. The chow mein special in the fact that you could taste the freshness of the vegetables and they were crunchy. Didn't mush into one flavor and consistency. Guess she was the owner. She was really nice and I guess ecstatic maybe seeing a new face who knows. Since it was near closing, they didn't have a lot of options -(maybe they were out for the day) but the lady/owner made up for it by offering me a sample even though it hadn't cross my mind, and she gave me generous amount of chow mein and spicy pepper chicken in my combo and gave me a complementary bao.
