I recently tried Indian food for the first time and this spot is the first place I've tried in Long Beach. I've gotten plenty of recommendations to try this place, and I'm glad I finally got around to trying! I love how moderately priced this restaurant is even though the quality is really good. I'm no expert in Indian food by any means, but my three friends and I really enjoyed what we ordered! We tried the goat curry and butter chicken two item combo with garlic naan. You can't beat the price! We shared and each of us only paid around $8 and left absolutely stuffed. The owners/workers were also so sweet! Ordered two 1 Entree combos, both Chicken Tikka Masala, to go. The sauce was good and chicken were pretty good but their was too much rice to sauce ratio and it ended up being a bit dry toward the end which was a bummer because I like to dip my naan into the sauce. The garlic naan that came with the combos was very good, though. A couple negatives: I tried to order a combo with Chicken Tikka Masala and a combo with Butter Chicken and was told on the phone that those are the same thing which they are not. I wasn't wanting to argue on the phone so just ordered two of the same thing which they said was Chicken Tikka Masala but in their restaurant it's labeled Butter Chicken. So I'm unsure what's going on there. Also, a minor nitpick, but they used plastic clamb shell containers for their takeout and I don't find those very conducive to saucy foods. read more

Was out running errands when I decided to stop here for lunch. It was on my list of places to try that serves vegan options. Today was the day and it did not disappoint. They had two vegan options and I was able to have them both since it was a two entree plate. Both were good but my absolute favorite was the Chana Masala (chickpeas), very flavorful. It also came with the garlic naan made vegan of course. I also bought a vegan drink. They had about 5 to choose from and I picked the rose drink. Small quaint lil shop with a friendly and kind worker taking and serving you your meal. The butter chicken was astounding upon the first bite, the chicken was practically falling apart and the flavors were just so spot on to what you crave when you want butter chicken. The five stars is because I loveeee their goat biryani. I'm not a "regulars" kind of person and I often don't like eating the same thing more than once in a while but I'll have their goat biryani weekly and keep coming back for more. It is the closest I've had to my moms authentic biryani because most restaurants have underwhelming flavor and meat. The range of cuts of meat can vary and sometimes it's not great (when it's chewy or super dry) but most of the time it's good. They give a good amount of meat usually. The flavor is great otherwise and it's an affordable, quick spot. I've tried various other things and had differing experiences. The paneer and veg pakora is usually good - crispy and good salt garnish. The veggie entrees (veggie korma, palak paneer, malai kofta) are all okay- a little bit watery and the flavor seems good but not great. The goat curry I only tried once and the curry was not thick and flavorful but I may have to try it again. I will agree with some others that one guy there seems to really want to sell naan and will ask several times if you're getting naan with your entree. It doesn't bother me too much but just a heads up. Overall I love this place and am glad to have found a nearby indian food spot! read more

The first few times were great. The chicken was fresh and there was less dark meat in the tikka masala. Their other vegetarian options were great as well. But the third and most recent time, it was disappointing. The flavors were not the same. The service was also terrible. I had told the guy that I will be eating outside and we ordered 3 sides and some garlic naan. The whole time we were ordering, he kept pushing more items on us and kept telling us to order more naan. It was really uncomfortable. He asked 3-4 times and he kept saying are you sure? And then he continued to punch it in as if he didn't hear us saying no - super pushy. And borderline yelling. We were eating outside but I never asked it to go - when we got the naan - it wasn't cooked right then and there it seemed. It was not the crunchy greatness the first time I had tried it. So I went back in and asked politely if it was cooked beforehand and wrapped up and if we could get a fresh one. He was noticeably agitated and said it wasn't old and he said it was because he had put it inside the foil and it gets soggy. He wasn't nice about it. His tone was so aggressive and condescending. I just said that oh okay - it's fine - but he insisted on making new ones and bringing out. I appreciated the gesture but I had never said I was getting it to go - so I'm not sure why they hadn't brought it out fresh in the first place. It's really distasteful to be pushed more items (and getting ignored several times when we had said no). Not a chill experience. I don't think it is worth making - what, a dollar more? I would even tip more to make that up - if the owner or whomever was at the cashier that day - would not have been so pushy and rude. There are four - five tables. 2 Drink refrigerators. It's all clean and neat. Walls are bright green and orange. The food is the standout; the star! You don't need to go a la cart. I highly recommend the dal. Try the mango lassi, you will be delighted. The naan is hot and fresh from the tandoor. Top shelf cuisine. Sometimes I'll add samosas and a mango lassi on the side. Those items will feed me and my fiancé feeling stuffed and satisfied. The chicken tikka masala and chicken tandoori is good. The tandoori has so much flavor and comes with veggies to provide an extra crunch factor. The chicken tikka masala over rice is sooo good. The meat is tender and their are so many flavors through the added slices being used. The garlic naan is garlically and complements the masala so well. I hardly tasted any cardamom, coriander, turmeric, fennel, cumin, etc. It all just seemed like it was stretched thin with extra water or something. - The exterior of the tandoori chicken had decent flavor but was pretty dry and definitely not brined - Naan was not even close to fresh, it had clearly been made a couple of hours prior, wrapped in foil and tossed in a warmer. Pretty rubbery, not fluffy. I don't like leaving negative reviews because I genuinely care about the success of every small business. But there are other Indian joints nearby with the same or lower ratings that are MUCH more consistent and flavorful.
