I was not expecting to fall in love with this place upon my first try. It's one of those places that I drive by a lot but never really tried until today. And, boy, oh, boy, was this worth finally checking out. I can't believe it took me this long. My fiancee and I went in and were seated almost immediately. The place has a nice 50s diner vibe to it. I ordered the eggs benedict with hash browns, and she had the turkey benedict omelette. The eggs benedict were absolutely delicious, and the hollandaise sauce was nice and creamy. The hash browns were extra crispy and probably the best I've had at any diner. The turkey benedict omelette was also good and filling. It had the right amount of ingredients and wasn't too stuffed. I am surprised that, after eating what we had (she and I halved our meals), we didn't feel bloated afterward. The food wasn't too greasy; it was cooked right to perfection. And it was quite a lot of food, too. What I especially liked was, after we got our food, the waitress wouldn't approach us to ask how we were doing. Rather, she saw us from a distance and would take note if we needed anything -- such as if our coffee needed refilling, which it did at times. Flapjacks is the place to be! Wow! The waitress, Jackie, made my visit super enjoyable with her great personality. She told me where they are located now on Arden is a temporary location, but their new restaurant (which burned down) is being rebuilt near El Camino and Fulton. I will remember to look for them the next time I'm in the area. I created my own egg white omelet with turkey (It was real turkey not processed slices!), avocado, spinach, mushrooms, tomatoes and a dash of jack cheese on top. I also had a side of fresh fruit and sourdough toast. Jackie even commandeered all of the strawberries to make my fruit bowl! Wow! Thank you! Though Jackie described Flapjack's as a 'hole in the wall' eatery, they have a lot of heart. They know how to make you feel real welcomed from the minute you come in. My coffee cup never ran dry. Oh boy, this place had me mind blown. So much life in the establishment which ultimately makes it like no other. Truly a miracle of miracles to be quite frank. Upon entering the place I was extremely hungry. I walked past a group of people and opened what seemed to be like an ordinary door. Do not let doors deceive you folks. As I walked through the door I was met with beauty. Made straight from the heavens I tell ya. Everything was so vibrant and welcoming. Chatter amongst the customers while bacon, eggs, and their infamous flapjacks sizzled inside the kitchens. Television playing throughout the diner while customers get to watch with ease. Brilliant! I was met with one of the waiters. Extreme elegance on his end. He led me to a table at the end of the building which was quite the hefty walk. However, I enjoyed the light walk. He offered me a coffee, I accepted, so he proceeded to go on his merry way. *5 minutes later* Coffee has now been received.......... Ahhhh, how delicious. *7 minutes later* Another waiter arrived to take my order. I can't quite remember the name of the meal but it consisted of cinnamon rolls with eggs and hash browns. Truth be told, the entire meal was phenomenal. I drenched the rolls with syrup which complimented it perfectly. The rolls were overall made very well by the chef. Hash browns crispy as ever. My eggs came in scrambled which ultimately resembled my mother's eggs. Made me feel right at home. I drenched them with ketchup which overall made for a nice combo. All in all, amazing place. We've been driving by Flapjacks for years. We finally stopped to have breakfast. We remember that several years ago we noticed they had remodeled. The interior is updated with a slight retro feel. It's bright, colorful, and comfortable. We were greeted right away, seated, and served drinks. The menu is pretty extensive and there's a daily special menu, too. I always want a savory breakfast, but I was tempted by the buckwheat flapjacks. It's not something you see very often. So we both decided to have the buckwheat flapjacks, which comes with eggs, bacon or sausage. Each order comes with 3 flapjacks. They were good, as were the eggs and crispy bacon. Went to have brunch on a busy Saturday afternoon and was surprised and delighted that this recently opened neighborhood diner was packing people! There was easily ten people before me but I was told the wait was only 15 minutes and again, I was pleasantly surprised how quickly my husband and I were sat down. Flapjacks sports a 50's vibe decor with pale turquoise blue and silver lamps-- booths that seat 4 makes up an entire wall of the diner and the rest of the space is made up with tables for larger parties and has bar seating for singles. The menu here is exactly what you would expect from a diner-- flapjacks, burgers, crepes, waffles, french toast, omelets, skillets, any brunch item you want, they got. Food was good, nothing to write home about but it's solid. I would highly recommend going here if you want to go to a nicer place than Denny's but don't want to splurge on $14 pancakes like you would at orphan breakfast house (and not even get eggs or sausage/bacon). They have a good selection of waffles, flapjacks, and French toast. All foods that I have recently started to like and crave. Walking in, the remnants of the Tex Wasabi's still remain... the large aquarium, the red glass lights hanging from the ceiling, and some of the booths are still there. The "hostess" took our name despite her telling us that there wasn't a wait. She wrote our name down on her list, and then scratched it out. *insert look of confusion* The booth was sticky and dirty, the actual booth seats had seen better days. The three star rating is because the waitress was incredibly nice. Turns out, we werent even her "section". She checked on us, if only to fill glasses, and removed dirty napkins etc from the table. We ordered the flapjacks with blackberries. The waitress that took our order neglected to tell us that there was an up charge for having food left off of the order (we skipped the eggs and sausage ) and paid close to the same for the flapjacks, all for the privilege of less food. The flapjacks arrived and the two pancakes were sizable and steaming hot. Im not certain how the cook was able to get them to steam like that. When i make them at home, mine dont do that! I was convinced after two bites that i was suffering from cant taste anything disease. How do pancakes not have a flavor?? These didnt. The berries were mostly too sweet and barely any fruit. Remind me to thank the waitress for charging extra for that. The cinnamon french toast tasted like day old bread. It was chewy and again, not very flavorful. The scrambled eggs I'm convinced had to be powered/reconstituted eggs. First off, eggs arent THAT yellow, unless youre using farm fresh eggs. I can tell with you 100% certainty, that there isn't farmland anywhere close to this place. Did i taste them? yes! Im still waiting for my tastebuds to kick in. So far, no luck! Flapjacks is open and is ABSOLUTELY beautiful!! And the food is still delicious. My first statement is come and try this place. You will love it!! More than a year ago Flapjacks burned down. And it took the owner Frank a long time to get it reopen. Besides insurance problems, a defunct contractor and a variety of issues beyond his control. But I have to applaud the new Flapjacks. I remember when this place was called Walt's and the served thee worst old people food ever! But for some reason it felt like home. When it became flapjacks that same feeling was still there. And going in today I was taken with how it looked. Gorgeous. It took me back. And the waitresses, the true back bone of any restaurant along with the cooks are just AMAZING! Love them all. I was really impressed that Flapjacks was able to get this temporary location up and running, while their original restaurant is being constructed after a fire destroyed the building. It may not look like an old-school diner (formerly a Guy Fieri failure), but it sure feels welcoming and neighborly once you walk in and are greeted by all the friendly staff. The hostess seated us right away and came back with our requested drinks in a timely manner. Our server Jackie was very sweet, spunky, and completely attentive and efficient throughout our whole meal. The place was buzzing with, from what I observed, a lot of Flapjacks regulars. It tells a lot about a business when it can still attract support from their community, even if it moved from the neighborhood. Food was great! Food is good. My family and I used to come here all the time. However, the last time my other party and I were treated like CRAP!! The older man who works the front is RUDE and doesn't like women. Also, he left us sitting there for quite some time when we were one of 3 tables to order. In addition to making rude undertones and comments to us. For example, he said "what's wrong??!" Then, when we asked for extra hot water, that seemed to be a very very big inconceivable request and said when he returned "if that's not hot enough then blah blah blah." Then, runs off and serves the few men in the restaurant. Greeted the men walking in. Brought their coffee. What nexts a kiss and hug??? To be frank, WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU??! Women DO deserve good service or basic customer service. Another reason why I will NEVER walk in here. VILE VIBES. After being treated like shit we walked out.The man was to say the least so mad. After watching him be extra nice to others. We peacefully got up and said we are going to head out what do I owe you for the drink? He legitimately growled under his breath at me, and didn't even look at me in my eyes and just told us "ugghh don't worry just go." The last time a man growled at me was I don't know-NEVER! Today I had to literally ask someone if they can take our order. we waited almost 40 minutes but we didn't get served. No one even came to refill my coffee within that 40 minutes of wait. I finally gave up and went to pay for my coffee and one orange juice when our waiter passed with our food. The table next to us came after and we're served and almost done when we decided to leave. The waitress ran past us stating she would be right with us, but never came back. Joe was getting "hangry" and stopped a nearby waitress to either take our orders, or we would be leaving. Even though we weren't her assigned table, she apologized and took our orders followed by plenty of attentive service. Apparently our previous server was having trouble with a credit card machine from another table, so we didn't feel so annoyed once the information was passed on to us. I understand when technology can fail and cause everything to back up because of it! Anyway, I ordered the Pecans and banana waffle. It was very rich and delicious with an abundance of fluffy whipped topping! Unfortunately, I guess my eyes were bigger than my stomach! I could only consume about 3/4's of my breakfast. Love this place! The food is always large portion and delicious. The restaurant has a 50's Diner feel. The staff is ALWAYS great and friendly. I have had several items here including the omelets and burgers. My all time favorite meal is the Patty Melt. It's hard to find a good, old school Patty Melt and this place has it! The Rye Bread is yummy and this is cheesy and filling. I usually don't like fries, but the fries here are crisp and flavorful. The wait staff is always on top of my Diet Coke refills too! Prices are good and affordable. They even have a specialty menu for Fri dinner for take home. The only draw back that I see for this place is that they close early, at 2pm. I have not been here in months, not venturing out during the Covid-19 quarantine. I had an appointment on nearby Fulton Avenue, so I thought I'd swing by to see if they were open. Yea! They have patio dining under the eves and umbrellas. It works perfectly for social distancing. The staff were wearing face masks, but not wearing gloves. I think they are short on their cleanliness and safety policy. Tables were being bussed by the same staff taking orders and delivering food: handling dirty plates then serving fresh food is not too sanitary. I also noticed that as servers were bussing tables, they were only using a wet rag to wipe the table, no disinfectant or sanitizing spray. They did not wipe down or sanitize the chairs. A big disappointment. I love breakfast in a diner and when I saw the stars I thought this place was worth a try. The coffee was awful and tasted like warm water. I never saw a waitress refilling coffee for obvious reasons. I asked for crispy hashbrowns - they weren't. My eggs benedict - muffin wasn't toasted and the ham was chewy. The hollandaise was ok and the eggs were poached perfectly. There were 40 people in the joint and everyone was 50+yrs old. Several large groups of friends gathered for a breakfast and chatting next to the aquarium and flat screen TV which had a B/W Gunsmoke episode.
