Better than expected food, exceptional service and very good mimosas, what more could one ask for?

Good, honest food at a decent price. Came for brunch on Memorial day. Place was busy but got seated reasonably quickly. Solid diner feel, could do with a little updating but nothing to put you off the food. Good selection of breakfast and lunch options. I had the breakfast sandwich which was perfectly simple and tasty - no unnecessary extras that other fancier places would add to make it cost $15. My wife had the biscuits and gravy which were also very good. Kids had the substantial 'kids' flapjacks plate which in hindsight would easily have been enough to share. Extra points of note: good kids menu with lots of fun activities to keep them entertained. And decent coffee - better than a lot of other diners I've tried. read more

When I first walked in I was greeted right away. A lot of regulars that were greeted by the staff by their first name. Very casual comfy diner atmosphere inside. I placed a to go order with a Diet Coke to drink while I waited and even though I was just waiting for a to go order my Diet Coke was never empty and they even gave me a full to go cup when my food was ready! We were so hungry that I forgot to take pictures of our food lol but we enjoyed a 2 egg Denver omelet which was jam packed with yummy ham and veggies with a side of the fluffiest pancakes I've ever had. We also ordered a mushroom Swiss burger that was juicy and delicious, topped with fresh veggies and a huge pile of crispy fries. Exactly what I expect from Flapjack's. Not fancy, but delicious with decent portions and hot coffee that keeps coming! The menu is diverse and I had a hard time choosing. Finally opted for the eggs Benedict. They were good, not the best I've ever had, but I'd order them again! The hash browns were super crispy, just like I requested. So I put off reviewing this place because I just wasn't sure where it landed. Not the best neighborhood, but obviously a devoted clientele. Breakfast was good but not great. The hash browns tasted mostly of old grease, and the hollandaise was just okay. This was a 3.5 star meal for us. My husband's meal was good. It was really crowded so I was expecting better food than we received. My biscuits and gravy were very bland but my friends were fine with their different toasts. I haven't been in this place in like 25 years, since when it used to be called "Walt's." I have memories of before I retired from drinking, we would come in here for breakfast after the bar's closed at 2 AM. I have never been back, so I decided to come give it a try. I know they were closed for quite a while because of a fire, but they did a very good job of remodeling the place. It reminds me of how it used to be the last time I was here. Simple coffee shop vibe. Booths and you can sit at the counter. Everybody was friendly, helpful, and my order was taken right away. I ordered the Kielbasa omelette. Kielbasa, Onions, and I asked for mushroom instead of the green pepper that it came with. Instead of potatoes and toast, I asked for flapjacks on the side. That's the name of the place, right??? While the omelette was good, The omelette itself was light and fluffy, and there was plenty of filling, I thought that the filling was pretty greasy for my personal taste. I did enjoy the omelette, I just did not enjoy the greasy aspect of it. What keeps this place at a four star review, was definitely the flpjacks! Light, fluffy, and absolutely delicious! I just tore right through them. I enjoy pancake circus over on Broadway, but these guys definitely give them a run for their money when it comes to the flapjacks. Love this place for breakfast. They have an extensive menu and their pancakes melt in your mouth. It gets pretty busy especially on weekends mornings but we never have to wait too long. You can see there's a lot of regulars who come here, which is a great sign. The staff is always fast and friendly. Although it can get busy it never feels crowded. I plan to try their lunch menu soon too. If you love good ol' diner aesthetics and love breakfast food, this is the place to be. read more

Delicious Diner Vibe. This place is buzzing with activity. We were seated right next to the semi open kitchen which I appreciated seeing the ladies work. Food was fresh, hot and large portions. The chicken fried steak I ordered was cooked perfectly, pancakes were fluffy and flavorful some of the best I've had in a long time. My mother ordered veggie omelette which she didn't eat much of but she ate all the country potatoes. They clearly have their regular clientele - all of whom are 70+ - and it did seem like they cared about and really served those folks. Cool. Commendable. But for the not regulars... Surly. No "follow me" or "come this way" - just a head shrug. "Thank you" was met with "hmph." The prices were also on the higher end for the quality and quantity of food. Their has browns were crisp and delicious, but my pancakes were straight up raw. Like not cooked through. White on one side. If your place is named after a particular type of food, you gotta kill it on that. They didn't. And only flavored creamer... ugh. I wanted it to be great, but it wasn't. The staff is taking precautions against Covid so that is also a plus. My server was Rhonda and she took good care of my friend and I. My friend ordered blackberry flapjacks with bacon and scrambled eggs with cheese (not pictured). I ordered Eggs Benedict with country potatoes and a stack of flapjacks. When the food came, the flapjacks were huge and fluffy, full of "yumminess". The Eggs Benedict was good, the hollandaise sauce was superb but my eggs weren't runny so that kind of ruined it. My partner and I were impressed with our brunch delivery this weekend. There's a good variety of menu items, and the price point is pretty generous for the quantity of food. My Mexican skillet had a good amount of cheese and chorizo without being too oily or heavy. Potatoes needed salt, but that's better than too salty. My husband's Portuguese omelette also had a good amount of meat; the side of tortilla made it easy to turn the dish into a burrito. The omelette also came with three fluffy pancakes, which made for an extra breakfast. We also got Swedish crepes, which were a little thicker than the real thing but still tasty. Review During Covid: My date and I visited Flapjacks and it was both our first time there. Upon entering, we actually didn't have to wait long at all for a booth. Too bad there was no actual waiting area, but I'd say we waited maybe 5 minutes before we were seated and the place looked busy. The only issue when we sat down was that the table had apparently been cleaned yet the tip money from the previous customer was still left on our table until a staff grabbed it. Ewwww. We all know money is dirty as hell. It would've been nice to have the table wiped down a little more and not just one wipe. Then we saw the bus boy wiping down the other tables and it was literally just one second, one wipe down. No scrubbing, nothing. I get that you're turning over tables quick, but during a pandemic, I just think you need to do a more thorough job cleaning. As for the staff, everyone was really good with wearing their masks except for a staff member behind the counter who had his mask below his chin and talking very closely to a customer sitting at the counter. If you're craving pancakes or waffles yet you're gluten free (GF) this is one of the few places that actually serves GF pancakes/waffles. Buckwheat is GF so order the buckwheat GF pancakes/waffles. I ordered the 3 buckwheat flapjacks and had them add some strawberries. The meal I ordered came with 2 eggs, 2 slices of bacon or 2 sausages all for $13.49. The meal was actually supposed to come with regular flapjacks, but the waitress was good at changing out the regular flapjacks with GF ones. I know, $13.49 probably sounds kind of pricey for a breakfast, but holy moly, the portions were huge! I finished the sausages and started working on the pancakes, but just couldn't finish them. The eggs didn't even get touched. I'm even wondering if you can even order one of these meals and split it with another person. The flapjacks were good, I was just so full! My date ordered the Carrot Cake Flapjacks which came with a Maple Cream Cheese drizzle. The meal also included 2 eggs, 2 bacon or 2 sausages all for $12.79. Once again, the portions are huge! You can probably also split this breakfast between two people so you don't have to take the left overs to go. I mean, I'm not sure leftover eggs and pancakes taste any good. My date really enjoyed his flapjacks, but was really full and couldn't finish the rest of it. This meal also came with 3 flapjacks. Once you're done and you get your check, you go and pay upfront at the register. Overall, the experience at Flapjacks was pretty good, service was fast, and I would definitely return to try out the buckwheat waffles. read more

If you're looking for a SOLID breakfast (by that I mean: good tasting and hearty), look no further than Flapjacks. Now, they do flapjacks here (duh) but they do so much more. The menu is pretty extensive. For breakfast, I went with the "Meat Lovers Omelet", and let me tell you, if you LOVE MEAT, this omelet is for you! This Omelet was PACKED full of sausage, bacon and ham. No joke, there was more meat on the plate than egg, and that just doesn't typically happen with omelets. All in all, it was delicious. Oh, and the hash browns here are among the best I've ever had. You can tell they grill them in butter, as they are golden brown and have a butter flavor throughout. So good.
