After seeing this place countless times on the drive down Wilshire, we finally decided to stop in for brunch. It was fairly busy on a Saturday morning but we were seated right away. The service was a bit slow - no one really came by to check on us once our orders arrived. We weren't asked about drink refills until we paid the bill, which is a little late. But the food was very tasty. I had the menemen and my husband ordered the mushroom crepes with eggs. The flavors were 5 stars. I liked the little bread pieces that came with mine to help soak up the juice. Each plate was about $18, which is steep but fairly typical for the area. Coffees were $5 each, which is high considering the lack of refills. But overall it was a great experience and we'd certainly come back. Surprisingly there was no line on a Sunday morning during brunch! The food took quite a while to be made, but when it came out we understood why. The cinnamon bun pancakes!!! I still think about them a week later. Literally the most perfect pancakes I've had in my life. This is probably the worst restaurant I've ever went to. Took us 50 minutes to get our food (not an exaggeration). No one came by to check on us. Water tastes funky. Food is overpriced and insanely average tasting. I got chicken karaage. Came with like 5-6 decent pieces of chicken that tasted like mostly fried skin. Large pancakes but I got sick of them so fast. Chicken karaage was also like $21 I believe. We also received the wrong dish and the eggs on another dish were cold. The inside is cute and that's probably the nicest thing about this place. Message to new owners. You have brought the quality down and increased prices. Formerly a 5 restaurant, we came here at least every other weekend and loved the food and drinks. However the new management has either changed the recipes with inferior ingredients to cut costs, or the chef's have left. Every item no longer tastes the same. Coffee is meh, pancakes have changed texture and taste, the butter they bring out is't the same, and even the syrup is terrible, the bacon is also different, and paying $100 for brunch for 2 adults no alcohol and 1 child for what is now below average food means we won't return. Clean restaurant and cute decor - I've been hooked since the first time i tried it! The reason for 4 stars and not 5 is because the last time i had a breakfast burrito, there were bell peppers. Bell peppers are not listed as an ingredient on the menu or online, so not sure why my burrito was filled with a lottttt of bell peppers. Thank goodness i generally don't mind them, however; the flavor of the bell peppers was so overpowering that that was all i can taste. Very disappointing for a $20+ breakfast burrito (not including tip). Without the bell pepper surprise, the breakfast burrito is my favorite thing on the menu. My friend and I had a lovely brunch here! Sit in the back patio area if you can - it's very peaceful and nicely shaded. Based on reviews, we split the patatas bravas and the cinnamon bun pancakes and they were both amazing. Patatas bravas comes with a warning that it is very spicy, which I was worried about initially, but it wasn't really spicy at all. I will say - it's not really a Spanish tapas patatas bravas, more like a breakfast hash, but delicious nonetheless! Pancakes were bomb. We also got the seasonal fruit platter, which was a little pricey for what it was, but good variety. Wish there were more blueberries. Iced coffee was good! It's okay. We got the brioche crunchy French toast and the crust was super burnt, so we only enjoyed the middle. The smoked salmon eggs Benedict was so so. The salmon was very fishy and just didn't look fresh, so I didn't eat any of it. The potatoes are very good and they got both eggs perfect, which is hard to do. Service is very very slow. The Bacon had good flavor to it but it definitely could have been crisper. The potatoes were really done well it had all the flavor I was looking for outside crisp inside soft and the peppers were a great touch. My favorite part was the sausage it was done perfectly great texture and flavors and so juicy. It was the best part of the meal. I got the flapjacks breakfast plate, which comes with scrambled eggs, potatoes roasted green and red bell peppers, pancakes, kielbasa and bacon. I specifically instructed the waitress that I cannot have any pork products and that I wanted turkey bacon only, which they had. But when my food arrived, it had pork bacon. I can't have pork products touching my food, and I didn't want to be difficult. Instead of remaking my dish, they just removed the bacon from my plate. I had to eat around the pork residue. In the endless search of family friendly brunch spot we have found a gem. Decided to come with kids and in laws for a 10am brunch and all around great vibes and better food. Coffee was excellent according to my IL but my matcha strawberry I thought was pretty sweet but still good matcha flavor. The food is made to order pretty sure since it took a little longer than expected but it was pretty tasty I just say. The shiitake omlette was exceptional and potatoes on the side was crispy and seasoned properly. The French toast was perfection and like a dessert. For 4 people our bill came out to almost $140 which is extremely crazy for breakfast. They also don't let you split cards above 2 people so heads up if you're in a group The service was cool but nothing spectacular. Our main server was pretty nice, but again nothing spectacular. We ordered the patats bravas , we were warned they were spicy, like 9/10 level of spice which sounded odd but they weren't spicy at all. They tasted like chili cheese fries with egg to be honest. A side of pancakes was 15 dollars which is nuts. Reason for the 3 stars: Expensive for breakfast, they ran out of a lot of things like biscuits, service was whatever & the food where as it was good wasn't worth $40 for breakfast. As a first timer at Flapjax I was completely blown away by the quality of food. I ordered the Portobello Basil Pesto Eggs Benedict with potatoes and wiped the plate clean. The combo of pesto with the eggs and mushroom was savory and delicious - one of the best breakfast dishes I've had in LA. I loved that this dish provided an alternative to having a heavy English muffin as the base. The other dish we tired was the Crunchy Pancakes. The homemade granola was delish and was accompanied by fresh berries. Flavors definitely hit & the cakes weren't too heavy. If you're in the mood for pancakes they have so many other options we want to come back for. Also really interested in trying some of their omelettes including the spicy red curry omelette which is a top rated dish. We also ordered the Hibiscus and Grapefruit Mimosas which were fresh and with a decent pour of Prosecco for both. The environment was super cute - easy street parking. I've been here twice now and while my company was great, the food & coffee was just terrible. They use chai latte powder that's a big pile of sugar and not an authentic chai tea latte that everyone else in LA seems to know how to make just fine. I tried going for a regular latte instead... abysmal. Burnt. Undrinkable. If you lose me at coffee, you're already in trouble. The pancakes are ok but the French toast was burnt. It pains me to leave negative reviews but this place needs improvements. Hopefully, the owner will see this and really listen. read more

Flapjax is located on Wilshire and 23rd St in Santa Monica and opened about a month ago. This space was previously occupied by Bread and Porridge restaurant for 28 years. The building exterior now painted Blue, has indoor, outdoor patio seating in the front of the restaurant and at the back. Street metered parking only. The back parking lot is a private parking lot which Flapjax does not own. This restaurant looked new, clean with simple decor was inviting. The staff: Natalia and Emilio were cordial, friendly and accommodating. They periodically checked in on Me to see if everything was satisfactory and offered a clean bowl of fresh H20 for Fendi. Flapjax's owner, Ms. Ebru also owns Bru's Wiffle nearby which has been successful in serving breakfast and lunch. Ebru was responsive kind and communicated with Me directly via email to clarify that the restaurant does accept ApplePay with the gizmo at the register inside. Flapjax's menu primarily offers breakfast and lunch. Yesterday while in the area and after walking my furbabe at the park, we stopped by and decided to visit and have breakfast. Ordered turkey bacon to share with furbabe Fendi and the crunchy Brioche French Toast. Both were presented nicely and Delish. The crunchy brioche French toast was lovely and yummy with strawberries, blueberries crunchy corn flakes and topped with whipped creme fresh, which I suggest you get a couple of dollops of.... but all more than I wanted to eat, so after a couple of bites, I had it boxed Togo. The turkey bacon was crispy, not too oily and disappeared quickly, blame it on Fendi :) Overall, a pleasant dining experience, Recommend! read more

From the same team as Bru's Wiffle across the street, Flapjax is the pancake-centered sister restaurant and an amazing new addition to Santa Monica. And it is just as good as Bru's, without the wait or busyness! The menu has a little bit of everything, whether you prefer something sweet or something savory. We got some of both! The Patatas Bravas were incredible and definitely had a kick, so if you don't like spicy, I'd suggest getting the sauces on the side. I would equate them to Chilaquiles, but with potatoes instead of chips. Love that! I also got the Cinnamon Bun Pancakes, which were an absolute highlight. Makes sense for a place called Flapjax! My wife also got the Gluten Free Pancakes, and I've truly never seen GF pancakes that fluffy ever before in my life. And they were huge! Plenty to eat and take home for the next day. Overall, the experience was great and everything was reasonably priced! The service could use a little work, but considering it's only been open a few months, that's totally understandable.
