Sorry I didn't get any pictures. This little place is great. Set up in a bike shop, there are tables inside and out to enjoy the delicious coffee. The barista was very knowledgeable about coffee and especially the history of the local coffee scene. He was great to talk to and very happy to share about his product. I had an espresso (single origin washed Ethiopia) and it was great. Clean, bright, acidic. I always enjoy getting a small cup of sparkling water with my espresso! I swung by this coffee shop after lunch at Reunion 19 around the corner. I pulled up into the driveway and called in an order only to find out They had closed early, and I was so bummed! The barista was so kind. He felt bad that they had closed early, and gave me my iced coffee on the house & brought it to my car! I'm confused by this thing called "southern hospitality" ! One of my favorite spots in Austin for espresso drinks. I've gone so many times, I can unfortunately name one or two times the espresso wasn't perfect but it was still good. I ordered an espresso, the best way to actually taste the bean, and it hit all the right notes: floral without excessive acidity, light and long pleasurably long lasting. After breakfast I was on the look out for a coffee shop, we were in a rush to head home so we stopped at the first place we saw. Flat track coffee is a bike repair shop/coffee shop. This is a spot that has its regulars for sure. I felt like a bit of an outsider but the baristas were very nice. The coffee is so expertly handled, there are no short cuts. There is so much attention to detail, the coffee takes a while to be prepared but if you watch you can understand why. The number one reason I loved this shop is because they have two adorable shop dogs! I happily made new fur friends while I waited for me mocha latte. read more

A coffee bar within a bike repair shop? I can't think of a place more "Austin " than Flat Track coffee! From the intricate art on the outside of the building to the assortment of bicycles that fill the space, Flat Track is a really fun place to grab a coffee or tea. We walked over this morning and enjoyed our cold brew & chai (served in mason jars of course) amongst the hipster decor. They also have an area in the back where they roast their own beans and create new blends which you can purchase to-go. If you meander around a bit you'll even spot Chuck- the in-store Chihuahua (does it get more Austin than that?) The coffee is located in the front left section of the building and directly behind are a couple of tables to sit down and enjoy your brew (and a breakfast taco of course!). To the right is the bicycle repair side, although there are bikes pretty much everywhere. It's very family friendly and has an overall welcoming and warm atmosphere. Austin has so many outstanding coffee shops, its hard sometimes to separate yourself from the crowd, but Flat Track does. First, in a continued nod to updating East Side offerings while honoring the footprint already there, Flat Track offers both mobile service, and a retail space in a shared store with Cycleast. Yeah, I know: I never saw this arrangement before either. But somehow it works. In a small location on East Cesar Chavez, you'll see people crowded for pastries, coffee or maybe some advice on internal hubs vs fixie (you want fixie). Somehow the two groups mingle seamlessly bound together not just by the experience by by the community atmosphere of so many shared tables underscored by the generous aroma of on-site fresh roasted coffee beans. Yeah, I'm going back. Only downside is pretty limited outdoor parking, so, ride your bike! A keeper on the East Side. read more

Wish I had found this place sooner! Flat Track has rustic, vintage vibes and shares the space with a bike shop. It has quite a lot of personality so it's a fun place to stop by and stay for awhile. There are four little parking spots and then it's street parking, which is abundant in the area. Didn't have a problem finding somewhere to park the car. As for the drinks, their latte is pretty good, and I tried my boyfriends vanilla latte and it was very heavy on the vanilla flavoring. The flavor isn't overpowering but it was still quite sweet. My only complaint is the price which is on the higher side for coffee. Probably wouldn't order any milk based drink next time. Other than that, this spot is great! read more

The most hipster coffee you will find in all of Austin. No seriously. Everything from the space, the walls, the decor to the barista and the regular patrons. This place has hipster steaming out of its ears. Everyone was friendly although the resident dog in a basket was not so happy with my friend. Be aware this is not a hang out coffee spot. Stopped in here on a whim because I'm always down for a cup of coffee. This store sells bikes and coffee. It looks like they were currently going through some remodeling or construction so it was a bit loud inside with the work going on. I decided to try the Mexican Mocha which is always one of my favorite coffees and they did a great job with it. There is parking in front of the store. Hopefully when the remodeling and construction is done there will be seats inside and somewhere to sit down and enjoy a cup of coffee and possibly check out the bikes. Right now there is a lot of dust so it is more of a grab and go. If you are feeling like a cup of coffee after some La BBQ, DeeDee, Bufalina, etc, I would definitely recommend you give these guys a shot or better yet let them sell you a shot or 2 of espresso. read more

Lovvve the vibe of this place! Having the bike shop next to it somehow makes it feel grounding to me..a bit of a rustic feel mix with authenticity. Also one of the very few places on the east side that uses Oatly oat milk. I'm not sure why so few places in town uses this brand. I wish the other shops would taste the difference the lattes made with Oatly vs. Pacific. Oatly gives the latte a creamy taste whereas Pacific gives the latte an acidic, sour taste. This alone wins me over, not to mention how much I love the atmosphere here. read more

Flattrack Coffee continues on the track (pun #1, done) of microroasting in gentrified parts of town within the confines of simplicity, rustic branding, and a little bit of technology mixed in via social media. They currently crank out two beans for patrons to drink, and the storefront is as low maintenance as it gets. Tucked on a side street right off of Cesar Chavez and I-35, no sign draws you in. You gotta be "in the know", which makes me feel all the more hip; unfortunately, I do not ride my bike into the Eastside. The storefront has a couple of stools and a brewing station, and that's about it--it does not need more. It provides enough space to have a great conversation. The two bags in stock, for your home-brewing purposes: Colombia Finca Miranda and Rwanda Dukunde Kawa. The former lends itself to a vibrant, clean taste, not unlike citrus. The latter affords the drinker a more full-bodied cup, with more distinguished fruit nuances. At less than $20 a bag, these beans will definitely get you going for all of the fantastic pricing, good service, and heartfelt roasting that comes along with purchasing a bag. Oh, and I felt super hip buying one of their $5 hankies/bar towels. I don't know if I actually have a use for it in my household, but why the heck not? It is branded with their logo. read more

Overall: love the taste of their espresso, cool industrial design, friendly owner. Limited seating. 8/10 -coffee quality: fantastic espresso. Mild/medium roast with a VERY smooth finish. No much bitterness at all. Disclaimer: I ordered an espresso with a small amount of hot water. -coffee choices: limited. No fancy Starbucks menu or syrups. Just espresso, cappuccino, Americano. Can get them on ice. But this isn't really a negative thing. They focus on espresso and do it well. -seating: VERY limited. 5 metal bar stools at a single counter. This is the one reason it's not a 5star for me. After talking to one of the owners, I understand they don't intend to be a large, "stay while" kind of shop. More geared towards grab-n-go or, according to the owner, the opportunity for one-on-one convos with the few customers who do stick around. One single, two-outlet plug. -wifi: nope. Officially my favorite coffee shop in terms of atmosphere. I usually have a plain cup of coffee, so I don't get too adventurous there, but the fact this is a coffee + bike shop, makes it so much cooler to work at! Staff is friendly, and there's enough seating (although a tad smaller than some of the other coffee shops I've been to) but nonetheless, great music playing in the background as well. If I didn't live too far, I would make this my regular go to spot! read more
