Recommended by a trusted source, we decided to trek through the hood for some of this deliciousness. Waffles filled to the brim with all sorts of high quality goodness. EVERYTHING sounded good and after much deliberation, B decided to go with the Butter and Powdered sugar (which melts in yo mouth) and the Sausage & Maple (so sweet and oh-so-savory) while I indulged myself with the Ham & Cheese (a yummy, gooey, hot mess). I dig waffle sandwiches. I make myself one at work almost every Saturday morning, and when the craving kicks in on any other said day of the week, I head to Flavour Spot. My bus drops me off right in front. It's really too easy for me to consume the fatty goodness. Due to the convenient wrapping, I usually finish it before I reach my house.. 3 blocks away. The waffles are implented taco style. They go savoury and sweet. Most of them are under $5. I always get the black forest ham and brie with the maple spread. I am a sucker for sweet and salty and fatty. My only gripe about meat is that there is no grill, so the meat is microwaved. Microwaved bacon is sort of lame, but they don't have the permit or something (I asked about the reasoning behind this small tragedy before) so it must be. If you want something a little sweeter, try the smore. Marshmallow fluff. Chocolate. You get the idea. They also have soft serve icecream in waffle cones. Traditional vanilla, chocolate, or swirl. Nice sized serving for $3.00. You can also get the small cone but I'm not sure what the cost is. The set up is a little weird? Gravel underfoot but lots of friendly tables. This foodcart is worth a short wait in the rain, especially if you have an umbrella. read more

Worth the 4.5 mile round trip walk to get 'em... Of course then we can justify eating this sweet and savory breakie goodness. The owner's a good egg. He brought out chairs for me and my pals one rainy quiet day down at the new joint on Mississippi, and chatted us up and fed us samples of a s'more waffle - so sweet my teeth ached, but still mighty tasty. The food cart is the new thing in Ptown and it is about time. I would rather most food establishments spent more money on ingredients and less on overhead. Usually all that expensive ambiance is ruined by someone's screamer anyway so why not just get a waffle at the Flavour Spot and enjoy it in the peace and quiet of your own home? Forget the waffles you can find all over Portland with baked-in tasties like cheese or pieces of bacon. If you can't decide between "Waffle!" or "Breakfast sandwich!" or "Foldable food!" then wow have I got a (Flavour) spot for you: meet the waffletacobreakfastsandwich. These are by definition unhealthy, so why not go ahead and add on the maple butter anyway? You definitely should; it's the perfecto touch that elevates your standard waffle-wrapped sausage patty breakfast to nearly divine status. If you ever as a kid worked hard to get that perfectly savory-sweet bite combo, you know what I'm talking about. So does everyone else, because you can get regular, veggie, or vegan sausage (so Portland!) and pretty much everyone in line was in fact ordering one of the three. Or more. There are other options (from ham and gouda to Nutella), but do get that maple butter if you go the savory route. If they're busy on a weekend morning you'll have to wait a few minutes - but hey, what better way to spend that time than working through the shame induced by the presence of the gym next door? Their vegan waffles with vegan sausage and maple spread are sooooo tasty! I think the Portland Roasting co. coffee is terrible, compared with Stumptown, but who cares when the waffles are so good! Be wary of a LONG wait on the weekend morning. I tried on a Sat around 10:30 and was not going to wait 30 minutes. But normally it's no more than 5-10 even with other people waiting. read more

I am an expert in Turkeyism. I was raised on a turkey farm and eat turkey up to 16 times per week. That being parlayed, I did not quite find the turkey in the THB up to par. And the bacon! Don't get me started. Flimsy and icky. The other sandwich with the canadian bacon and american bacon was also suffering from whatever it is it suffered from. Since they opened, we have been loyal customers. My husbands band even played at the owners wedding. So even though I am a bit partial, I am a bit of a waffle snob. My favorite still remains the plain with butter and powdered sugar but I am a classic kind of gal. The waffle is crisp on the outside, soft and not undercooked on the inside. It is also refreshing to see some savory choices and they do live up to their namesakes expectation: Sausage and maple, TBH (turkey bacon havarti), delicious FLAVOUR. The only complaint is my beef with the weather every time I crave a waffle it's always blustery or pouring. Not the usual casual mist and clouds. This is no reflection on Flavour spot. Perfection. I love Flavour Spot-- and YAY they opened another location! They offer a few vegan varities: peanut butter and jelly, vegan sausage with maple syrup (not to be confused with their veggie sausage which is NOT vegan), and strawberries with "whipped cream". I stick with the sausage and maple syrup. My husband likes to switch it up every now and then. The vegan waffles use a different batter then their traditional waffles, so if you order something like peanut butter & jelly make sure you specify that you want the vegan waffle batter. For whatever reason they don't list their vegan options on their menu, I spoke to the owner and he said they were working on new menus but "somehow the vegans all know what we offer". I had driven by this place on lombard (by the west coast fitness express) as well as having gone past its second location over in the mississippi district, just past Por Que No?) and had never really thought much about it until a friend of mine started raving about this place! I finally mad a trip out of it and sidded up to the counter, told the waffleman to give me his best! and he did! sliced turkey, hominy cheese and bacon all wrapped up in a delicious sweet waffle that was just like the ones that i had in Brussels, Belgium. I never knew how good a waffle could be until I bought one wrapped up like a taco, sold out of a little building that looks like an espresso stand. But oh, it is delicious. Note to self: If I get a strange hankering for a soggy, wet waffle with not-so-good ingredients, punch myself in the face to remind myself that I don't like soggy, wet waffles with not-so-good ingredients. Call me crazy, but I just don't get it. I have been here three times, and tried several different menu options, and every single time, I was more disappointed than the last. I hate to give such a harsh review, but there are just so many things wrong with this this product! Maybe the vegan options are better, but God knows I've had enough bad vegan food, so I won't be going back for any of those things, either. I realize that the waffle is meant to be folded so they can put things inside, like cheese, meat, peanut butter, or whatever else they fancy; as a result, the waffle comes out undercooked, and honestly, it's just not that good. It's mushy and flavorless, and it completely falls apart and leaks liquid into your hand through the foil. I would expect that there is a better way to prepare this waffle, but since I don't work at a waffle cart, or make soggy, wet waffles, I don't know what that better way is. Perhaps there is no better way to make a folded waffle, so I will just give up on eating folded waffles altogether. The other problem with the "Dutch Taco" (not sure I like the sound of that) is the meat inside. The bacon is WAAAAYYYY too hard, like, it almost hurts my mouth to eat it, which is a huge bummer. If I order bacon, it better be good, and this bacon is not. Also, the sausage reminds me of the Egg McMuffin patties they serve at McDonalds, which also means, yeah, you guessed it, not very good. The ham and Canadian bacon are remarkably boring, and I just don't care for either. The maple butter they put on the waffles is okay, but it's just nothing worth going back for, because it doesn't mask all of the other defects. I've tried it three times, and I'm done. There are so many good spots in this town for breakfast, including carts, with healthier options and cheaper prices for a quality product that results in a far more satisfying breakfast experience. read more

I think the rain dampened my enjoyment of the Flavour Spot, and maybe my large appetite. I agree that it's a great place for a snack and some coffee, but don't go if you're starving. Sure, you could order a buffet of waffle sandwiches, but you only have so many hands and there aren't many places to set your waffle-wich down so it will be a juggling act. I had a strawberry cream cheese waffle sandwich. It tasted good, but it was soooo rich. I blame myself for shoddy decision making skills, but it led me to think that most of the sweet waffle options were better suited for dessert. Not that I'm one to shun the thought of dessert any time of day or for any meal, I just can't hang with that kind of breakfast for myself. My dining companion had a turkey, waffle, bacon concoction that was pretty good, but dry. There was no line when we went, but we still had to stand in the rain for fifteen minutes waiting for our waffles. I think the moral of the story is to check out the Flavour Spot when you are looking for a good way to spend some quality time snacking. read more

5 Stars! "Woohoo! As good as [waffle shacks?] get!" Well, the Yelp rating guide aside, this is one of the only waffle shacks I've ever been to, but it surely must be the best. Just a note on the other reviews... this is not a restaurant, so don't be mad if it's raining, for the same reason you don't hate on hot dog stands for their lack of ambiance or a taco truck for it's lack of comfortable seating. Pluses: a surprising variety of great options to put in your waffle, and the quality of the fillings are good. The big guy who is there often is really nice and obviously knows and cares a lot about the neighborhood, which is great. Negatives: the waffle isn't that good. Not sure if you can make a crispy waffle that would fold without breaking, but it could still have more flavor and be cooked a bit more. Random addition: I've been there about 5 times now and don't see how anyone gives it1-2 or 5 stars. It's not that good, so if you're giving it 5 stars you're more into the novelty than the quality. After hearing about this place we tried it on a lark. Wow. The people that live nearby are lucky--I've actually seen people come over in the pajamas. Now having tried the goodness, I'll travel for miles to have their waffle sandwiches. The prices are inexpensive, but the quality is great. I like the turkey and havarti when it is available, but they are all good. I have to say their coffee is tasty too--and I'm picky about my drip coffee. Say hi to the waffle man for me! read more

My all time favorite vegan waffles with maple butter. Eat it while it's hot is the best. I recommend the plain. If you wait too long it really doesn't taste good at all. Cons: I ordered the pecan maple butter one once. I was hoping for crunchy pecans and crunchy waffle. My waffle came with a cup of raw pecans. They weren't roasted or anything at all. Same type of pecans you get at bulk bins that have been sitting for awhile that lose their crunch after awhile. Unfortunately i'm a fan of this place. I think I went here like 3days in row when I first discovered it. So convenient, as it's only 5min from me, in N.PDX; located in parking lot of video store. There are time limits on waffles as they get soggy after couple minutes. So must be eaten right away to get that crunchy waffle texture. My fav is sausage and maple syrup glaze. read more

We tried this place last weekend and I have to say the Sausage and maple was amazing. My boyfriend went back for 2nd's. Black forest wasn't the greatest but was still enjoyed. My only complaint is that the girl working there was more interested in finishing her cigarette before helping us and then when she did take our order she stepped back out of the shack and lit up again. Flavour spot has an extensive menu of "Dutch Tacos." These are soft, round waffles rolled around any number of fillings. The Number One, breakfast sausage and maple spread is the go-to on Lombard: a one-way trip to "Diabetic Comaland." They serve Portland Roasting Coffee at this location, and I believe Cafe Spella at their Mississippi spot -- this is a big deal, as most of Lombard is a no-go in terms of coffee (Bring your own mug to avoid sour paper taste. ;) If you venture to their Mississippi spot eRly enough, you will have the opportunity to try the Fried Chicken taco: the spicy batter, tender chicken and maple spread will convince you to quit your job at Wieden & Kennedy, and take up busking in order to support your new habit. read more

Used to drive by the Flavor Spot all the time and knew if I stopped just once, I would go back again, and again, and again (and sadly, I was right). I've only eaten the Sausage and Maple waffle, as well as the Nutella waffle, but I'm hooked. Both are delicious, and it just depends if I want my fav (sausage and maple) or I'm craving chocolate. I do need to branch out and try some of the others (which I eventually will), but I've been happy with the two I've ordered. Last time I stopped, I ordered the S&M waffle (keep your minds clean people, we are talking about food here...), a guy who was waiting for his order told me that the veg version is better than the real thing. Rolled up to this little cart/stand late on a Sunday morning because my boyfriend and I were looking for some cheap breakfast and some coffee. I got a delightful vanilla latte (very reasonably priced too....$2.00ish? Not much more than that...) and one of their waffles with fruit and whipped cream cheese. YUM! I wouldn't recommend getting whipped cream because it seemed like a very TINY portion of whipped cream for the 50 cents we paid extra for it. Perfect breakfast, the guys who work there were very nice, and had to wait a little bit...like five minutes maybe...for everything, but it was WELL worth it :) read more
