This coffee shop is a gem... If you get a spot! Very difficult to find parking here. The coffee is regular old coffee. Nothing special here, but the concept is nice. Alot of mismatched tables set up, small tables, all you can think of. The space itself is spacious, but just always packed. Its quite dim in here, and sometimes weird music is playing so keep in mind. Not my #1 study spot. read more

This is a great place to get some work done. The aesthetic is great, very much a mid-century living room with an assortment of furniture. Much of it is tables well suited for working, either alone or in a group of 3 or 4. Not too much space for a group larger than that to work, but that's okay - it's a quiet work environment. It can get crowded though, and it gets tricky to find a spot. Parking isn't excellent, but it's not too hard either - just park in the neighborhood immediately surrounding the building. They keep hot coffee, cold La Croix, and goodies like potato chips and protein bars to keep your spirits up. Happy studying! read more

I judge coffee shops based on their chai, since I'm not really much of a coffee drinker. Honestly, the chai might be a boxed concoction, but it's the best chai in all of Austin, imo! Whether it's hot or iced, there's always just enough sweetness and spiciness for me. I will say to make sure you stir your chai before drinking it or else you'll be left with a bunch of plain milk and end up drinking all of the chai at the bottom. Learned my lesson lol. Aside from the drinks, Flightpath is my go-go patio for productivity. It's really hard to get shit done at some of the places around town because of a lack of outlets, crowded seating, etc. But Flightpath has it all. Just enough seats for people to come and go -- I've never NOT found somewhere to sit -- and plenty of outlets. My favorite spots are the mini picnic tables outside with individual outlets, where you can enjoy the fresh air and the funky atmosphere. Some people come to chat but it's rarely the obnoxious type and everyone here is usually looking to get some work done or chill. I've met some interesting and friendly people here. Oh, and I pretty much love all of the baristas. I don't know why people expect baristas to be so engaged with them all the time when they are literally running the shop and there are 57482928393 other customers to tend to. They're never short, always just friendly enough, and if you keep going back for a refill or there's some dead time they WILL totally make conversation with you. Wow, what can I say about this place? Parking is pretty easy to find in the local neighborhood, but once you find parking, you have to actually go inside the coffee shop...and that's where it starts to go downhill... It's very eclectic (mismatched furniture, art, etc.) with a distinctly Austin vibe...but Flightpath tends to veer off the beaten path a bit too far and instead of a hip, cool feel, it just comes across as grimy. The coffee may be its saving grace, though I'm not sure as the latte I ordered had too much milk to even be called a latte...more like a steamer with a hint of coffee flavoring. I came here during a rainy Saturday, and it was the perfect study spot. There were plenty of nicely separated tables, quiet atmosphere, not too cold, not too bright but dimmed enough so that people can't see you watching doggo videos. I am sad to have to give this 1 star. I really like this cafe. However, today we had a terrible experience. I came with a friend with a service dog (tagged as service animal) Two separate staff told her she couldn't bring a dog in. She explained that it was a service animal. First staff wasn't comfortable but accepted it. The second staff came over and told us to leave or go out on the patio. When informed that it was a service dog, he loudly asked her what her disability was. I pulled him aside and informed him that it's not a legal question to ask. He rolled his eyes. Then said well, customers see the dog and want to bring their dogs in. I told him it's not cool to ask that. He said "it's not cool to bring a dog in here" After that we got the cold shoulder from the staff. While I love this cafe, unless things are going to change and staff are informed on how to handle this situation, I'll have to go elsewhere to spend a small fortune in Lattes. This place is kind of like a study tomb. There are two main rooms separated by long hallways. The back room is deathly quiet, has no windows and is always packed. They play some oddball music in here. There will be days where they'll play Big Star and Morrissey (which I like) but when they hit random on the Ipod you end up hearing tons of random Rolling Stones songs as well as cheesy fifties pop, classical and blues. Its all over the place. The coffee is ok and they have several varieties. Their ice tea is good. I highly recommend trying the cranberry nut bread. Its from Upper Crust bakery and tastes amazing! The lighting is good or bad depending what table you're at. The one I'm at now has shit lighting and a view of the ugliest painting ever (the one with the three people drinking coffee and frowning). I wish I could buy it just to throw it away. They also have a well lit deck and beer. Its a nice place. I heard it got its name because it used to be on the flightpath to the old airport. read more

I'm going off the rails on a coffee train! I've been drinking a lot of coffee lately. The other night, I thought I was going to have a heart attack. I just couldn't calm down. But maybe I was agitated due to the jack-asses in the coffeeshop: talking too loudly, singing (yes, and badly) along to the music, displaying nervous tics... That's why I loves me some Flightpath. First, people actually come here to work. It's the quietest coffeeshop I've been to lately, and, trust me, I've been to many. Here, even if people converse, they do it with their *inside* voices. The tables are huge, and the outlets plenty. The music is good (usually), and it's not played at an obnixious level. The coffee is tasty. And bottomless. I am drinking myself into orbit, and LOVING it!!! The only bad thing about this place is the lack of parking. But, I'm so jacked up right now that I could jog back to my house downtown, so maybe I'll just leave my car where it is... Flightpath is one of the quintessential Austin coffee places. The diversity and weirdness make you feel both very comfortable and relaxed yet judged by the folks both weirder or less weird than you... and isn't that how all of Austin feels. Despite the cocktail of motley human kind there is a common agreement between all patrons and staff that is QUIET. This makes Flightpath my number one study spot. My distractible nature make caffeine and silent acoustic bliss a necessity to get any work or studying done. The occasional whispered conversation, low background music, baristas barking "pizza slice is ready", and running espresso machines are all music to my ears. I am tempted to bring a pin to drop next time to see if anyone looks up ;) The drinks are all well made good quality stuff. I like the Carlton frozen coffee, its different. They have pretty good pizza slices, taco deli tacos, and a few pastries to compliment our common stimulant drug addiction. The staff are somewhat infamous for their blasé attitude but unless you have a chip on your shoulder they shouldn't bother you. They do their job well and I appreciate them not chatting loudly or blaring music over the speakers. As I prepare for my daunting board exam I plan on studying at least 400 hours, roughly 150 gallons of coffee and 600 consequent pee breaks. So Flightpath are you ready for me and my bladder? Shhhhh! What the f? Why is everyone so quiet in here? Its what I would imagine the coffee shop would sound like if it was in deep space, or at least the Texas School for the Deaf. Its really fucking odd and generally awkward to have coffee with a friend or lover unless you both bring a laptop like this one and tip-tap instant messages to each other. Only then would your conversation blend into the other intermittent clicks, beeps, and windows start-up sounds of Flightpath. So what fuckin good *is* a neighborhood java shop if you can't even have a decent conversation over their lousy drip coffee? Pretty worthless, innit? If you don't live within a 4 block radius, there's absolutely no reason to go out of your way to visit Flightpath, however, its suits my needs for just this reason. read more

Ah, yes, the boobies on the ceiling. The first time I went and actually sat at Flightpath was with a client...and right in the middle of the meeting- it was our first- I happened to glance up. And of course, what happens when you glance up? Exactly. And what do you say when you see boobies? What else can you say? Which wouldn't be so bad, except for the client part. But anatomical artwork aside, Flightpath is nice. I can't say I've ever had their house coffees, but I liked their hot and iced mochas quite well- especially the hot. Its as good as Meeju's, and until going to Flightpath, meeju's was my favorite, but I'm not about to go to barton creek mall to get a coffee. One thing I really like about flightpath is the space between the tables and the volume of the music. Perhaps I'm just idiosyncratic, but I like my music and table spacing at a coffeeshop just right, and this place does it just right for me: the tables aren't to far, aren't too close, and neither is the music too loud or too soft. So many coffeeshops get this wrong: music too loud, tables too close. But Flightpath makes you comfy. So you can stay and look at boobies longer of course. read more

So, a library and a coffee shop walk into a bar... I slay myself sometimes. Seriously, though: Quiet as a library, coffee house drinks and grub, plus beer = win. Many days I'm writing and doing research, and the atmosphere here is perfect. Sitting among silent, diligent student types brings me back to my UT days without venturing too close to campus, and allows me the conceit I sat as still and earnest back then. And yeah, it's been years, but I do remember when this place opened and was on the flight path. If you're looking for a place for convivial chat or to pitch your new web property, there are dozens of other coffee shops to do that. Fickle, fickle girl. Five - count them - FIVE days after I pledged my undying love to Flipnotics at the Triangle (see my JP Java review), I found myself cheating on ole Flip again, with the Flightpath. I have a good excuse, though. See, Flip has this little mistress called live music on Saturday nights. And being the total and complete geek that I am, I actually needed to work on a Saturday night recently. I knew that live music would not be conducive to this, so I found myself seeking out new territory once again, at Flightpath. And it was good. Lots of space, big tables, decent lighting. There were tons of tables available - but then, it was a Saturday night in the summer, so that probably explains that. There seemed to be a fair number of outlets and the free wi-fi was good and speedy, just the way I like it. As others have mentioned, the back room is very quiet...which I thought I would prefer, but it was a little much for me that particular day. I didn't realize how much I go to coffeehouses for the sounds of life that usually inhabit those places. My chai was pretty good...not Flipnotics good, but at least very flavorful. Again, as others have mentioned, the barista that evening was a little on the sullen side. On the other hand, working on a Saturday night kind of entitles one to be a little sullen. I probably wasn't exactly the picture of cheerful friendliness, either. Flipnotics is still my favorite for working away from work, but I won't hesitate to visit Flightpath anytime I need a change of scenery. read more

As others have experienced before me, 'I've been drinking a lot of coffee lately. The other night I thought I was going to have a heart attack' (JB 2007). Except I was walking from Flightpath after a dark roast and entirely too many hours in the same room. Obviously, I cannot handle the harder stuff. My first time here was partially spent focusing on breathing while the full weight of being out of school and out of work crashed down all around me, which sounded sort of like silence. Pretty suffocating, really. Second time here was under better circumstances. Had a fantastic night out with a then-Mister, came here the next day to finish some readings for a then-class and was meeting then-Mister for a blustery winter stroll anywhere. Life was good, and reading quietly side-by-side for a bit was pretty then-satisfying. This last time was expressly for Getting Shit Done [GSD] and that is exactly what went down. Spent approximately 6 hours in their back room, bathroom, porch and of course ordering the goods to keep the GSD going strong. Available goods include a seemingly ever-evolving myriad of local foodstuffs: East Side Pies, quiches, regular pies, cakes, etc. Enough to fill you for a while. Others are accurate with the noise-level in Flightpath, which is why my conversations indoors here have been primarily using low-enough-to-lean-into-whoever-you're-speaking-with voices, which can be to your advantage depending on how close you're comfortable getting with friends/lovers. The back room though, is where you GSD, with the exception of intermittent break-talk in waves that eventually roll over the crowd. I keep confusing this place with the Landing Strip. Let me say that they are nothing alike...much to my dismay. My number one most favoritest place to study. Always quiet with plenty of outlets and seating. I am a particular fan of their Dark Roast and the fact that refills are cheep! The baristas are always cool and chatty. Did I mention there are boobies on the ceiling? Maybe they have more in common with the Landing Strip than originally thought?! My only issue is that they serve beer. Cheap beer at that! No beers over $4! OK...this isn't an issue, other than the fact that I have no will power. Buzzed studying is still drunk studying...and at my age, I need all brain cells and synapses firing all the time. The patio is dog happy and also has plenty of outlets. Clearly, the people who run this place are in the wrong business. What they should do is open up one of those rent-a-bed-by-the-hour sleep-capsule nap stations in Tokyo. Just walking in the door of this place makes me feel like passing out cold. There's nothing physically wrong with the building or the decor. If you want to study, it's absolutely ideal. Most libraries aren't this quiet, and in case someone does dare to have a conversation on the premises, they offer ear plugs. The few advantages of it outside of a study joint is that if you live in the neighborhood, you can stop by for a cup of coffee to go, or if you are meeting a blind date, you can bring them here and talk outside because no one you know will be looking up from their laptop to notice you. read more

Oh, Flightpath. I don't actually know where to begin to sing your praises...so I guess I will start with the sore spots (you know they always exist). One, your parking sucks. Four spaces out front, a handful in back and heavily restricted residential street parking? Ugh. Two, it's so hard to find a table! That's a problem with all ATX coffee shops, though, so I won't hold it against you. Three, I wish you had more food. Mainly because when I visit you, I am in it for the long haul, and would like more than those Greencart sandwiches and wraps that I am not too fond of. Soggy bread is gross, and not worth five bucks. That being said, nothing in life is perfect, but dang if Flightpath isn't pretty darn close. Despite it being difficult to find a table, when you do, they are fairly private. They aren't spaced too closely together, and I like not feeling like someone is breathing over my shoulder. The coffee is good. Not great, and the espresso drinks leave much to be desired, but the iced coffee makes me a happy camper. And you can start a tab--which is a HUGE plus for all-day-campers like myself. The noise level. They don't pipe music into the backroom, so I am actually able to sit and work. And for the most part, people don't talk a lot here. It's great. I feel like this is where serious students come to get work done, as opposed to the influx of chit-chatters at other spots around town. There's also a nice, shaded patio with a few individual tables and communal picnic tables outside for those days where it's too nice to be inside writing your dissertation...but you still have to get at least one damn page out. I could actually go on and on about how much I like Flightpath and how productive I am at it...but this might be a partial lie on the productivity tip, because I AM WRITING THIS REVIEW FROM THERE RIGHT THIS MOMENT, and totally avoiding work. Look, contrary to what my attitude may suggest, I don't hate people. Really, I don't! I just don't want to talk to them. And I'd rather not hear them talking, either. Flightpath, or rather, an introvert's oasis, is the first coffee house I've ever encountered that encourages this preference. Even though there is plenty of seating (including couches,) it's usually pretty full. I've had to do the initially awkward "can I share this table with you if I promise to be quiet?" thing more than once. But that's the beauty of the coffeehouse: it can be crowded and quiet at the same time! My favorite seats in the house are up front where the windows are. The back tends to be a little on the warm side, and natural lighting is nil. As for the coffee, I love love love their vanilla latte. I don't know what they do differently, or if it's actually nothing special and I'm just enamored because I love the atmosphere so much, but whatever. It's great and I don't care why. Oh yeah, and if you do happen to be of the extroverted persuasion, there is a large back patio perfect for talking/socializing/hanging out/whatever you strange people like to do. read more

Flightpath is a Coffeehouse that you don't hear about often. They aren't too hip, super centrally located, or pretentious, but they do have velvet paintings on the ceiling, LOOK UP. They cater to a lot of the UT study crowd and the remote workers, because they have tons of seating. Don't be too shy to grab a four-top table with someone already working at it. They have an assortment of food/drinks beside coffee, too. Eastside pies, juices, and breakfast tacos all make the list. Get there early for the tacos, because they sell out pretty fast. read more

Flightpath has quickly become one of my favorite coffee shops to study at. What differentiates this coffee shop from others is the background music. I have realized that the music here is not nearly as loud as it is at other local coffee shops. This makes studying exponentially easier. The furniture and ambience have an urban and hipster vibe, but so do most local Austin coffee shops. However, I do like how spacious the floor plan is. It allows for more tables/couches and therefore, more room for studying or socializing. My favorite drink is the New Orleans Iced, which has a sweet mocha flavor to it. All of the food are from local vendors like Tacodeli and East Side Pizza. Overall, I always find the food to be quite delectable. read more

I first went to Flightpath around 15 years ago, and still enjoy popping in when I'm in the neighborhood, as I was this morning. I went in to get a bagel to go, and was so appalled at the attitude of the surly, rude gal behind the counter, it has driven me to post to Yelp for the first time in months. One thing I love about Austin is how nice most people are, so I when I encounter someone who is so sour and just plain rude, it really puts a bad taste in my mouth - and certainly makes me never want to return. I'm sure she is the exception and not the rule, but it got my day off to such a crappy start, I can't imagine ever wanting to return and taking the chance of having her snarl at me again. It's official: I'm going to thank Flightpath in the acknowledgements section of my thesis. Flightpath may not be the best place to have catch up with a friend whom you haven't seen in 2 months, but for me (college student, constant procrastinator, cannot concentrate unless forced into an environment with equally studious-but-easily-distracted human beings), it might be the only place where I can read, finish assignments, and write essays in a timely and comfortable manner. The tables are huge and well-lit, and spaced far enough apart to make you feel safely isolated in the privacy of books/laptop, but still within a somewhat sociable distance from your neighbors. It's not the best place for groups working on assignments (Bennu or Epoch would be better) because as other reviewers have mentioned, it is insanely, exquisitely quiet. And I've always been able to find an outlet here, despite how crowded it gets on Saturday afternoons. Personally, the 11pm closing time is both a hassle and a blessing, mainly because it forces me to finish things by a certain time. There are only 3-4 parking spaces in front--I always find myself circling around waiting for someone to leave, or just parking on the street after 6pm. I can't believe I haven't written a review about this place yet. The many many hours I spent at this coffeehouse as an undergraduate plowing through readings and homework made me grow to love it. The obstacle in trying to get stuff done here has nothing to do with the environment, but simply finding a seat because it tends to get crowded. After that, you're pretty much set. Even though there are a lot of people here, they are like-minded people trying to get work done as well so it is quiet. Big fan of the eclectic art on the walls a ceilings. When you need a study break just stare at your surroundings! The negatives... the coffee. I've only gotten drip coffee here before and its just not that amazing, maybe their espresso drinks are better. Also, the waitstaff occasionally remind me of Oscar the Grouch. Popping up from behind the counter doing who knows what and gruffly yelling at you with messy hair. At the end of the day, I'd rather deal with these minor details than try and study at Spiderhouse or Bennu with loud obnoxious people. read more

Flightpath is awesome for studying! I really like the chai latte and the pizza (they have margherita pizza which is awesome). They also have a ton of snack selections. When I moved to Austin a year ago, I was trying to look for a great study place . I went to the University of Chicago for undergrad - a college with tons of coffee shops nearby and lots of students studying. Flightpath has that type of culture, just a place where people are just trying to study but are also really chill. I'm more productive here than I am anywhere else. The baristas have really, really good taste in music. Sometimes they play entire albums, which I appreciate especially when it's good. Sometimes they play a good mix of music. When in San Francisco and telling other ex-Austinites that I'm going back to Austin for a while, I had several people respond wistfully with a reminiscent look in their eyes "Oh, how I miss the coffee shops there." At first I didn't pay much attention, but it happened enough times to make me to think about this sentiment, especially since I think SF has some pretty good caffeinating spots.....and so I'm on a quest to discover and reveal what the secret is to Austin's best. So lately, I've found myself to be at Flightpath about twice a week and made up my mind it's about damn time to write a review. Flightpath is relaxed, albeit somewhat quiet because of the numerous techhies typing away on their laptops. But it's also great for people watching (yes techhies, I've caught you checking out the lovely men and women as they walk through the door.) The coffee is great and affordable and I haven't detected any snobbery coming from the staff when I order my house coffee, which is most excellent. And Bravo for the italian sodas! Not too sweet and not too pricey. And for the grand finale..........the picnic tabled Patio! Paired with a bottle of beer (if only they had a few decent wines) an ordinary morning of uppers can be magically transformed into a pleasant afternoon of good conversation and chilled out people watching. Especially for those lazy, warm, sunny Sundays when all feels right with the world.. And so my grueling, extensive research has discovered that the ancient concept of the patio might be the secret for a successful Austin coffeehouse. This was an odd place for me, mainly because it reminds me a LOT of another cafe in another town that was very, very dear to me. But the two are wildly different. Flightpath is like the silent, stoic little brother of the place I know and love, which really put me off at first. However, they buttered me up (maybe even literally) with a nice warm pastry and some pretty decent chai. It'd be a great place to come and study, but I feel really, really intrusive having a conversation at even the lowest volume. And as I have very little intensive studying to do at this point in my life, I just don't have a use for the atmosphere here. As a self-conscious person, this sort of atmosphere is at deal-breaker level for me. PARKING SUCKS - so don't say you haven't been warned.....;-) Good for groups for when it is not busy as heck in there. They do have outdoor seating for the smokers - if you are a non smoker than your better off inside in less you like getting smoke blown in your face on a regular basis. One of the workers was complaining to the other ones how busy it was and that it is always like this in there and blah blah and more blah - I wanted to tell her to stop complaining and be thankful she has a job. I love this neighborhood but I always forget about this place. I came here for the 1st time today to study. It's Saturday during midterms so everyone else did too. I liked it but I didn't love it. Lots of outlets and tables. Dirty chai was great, vanilla latte could have been stronger. Plate my bagel was on was dirty. Service was good-ish. Struggled to find a seat, shared a table with someone, which is fine, I just preferred my own space. Also, I fully realize this is totally a stupid preference of mine and it really shouldn't matter, but they served me my latte, a hot drink, in a regular drinking glass instead of a mug. I just... look, hot drinks belong in mugs. I couldn't understand why I had a latte in a drinking glass, yall. I saw many people with mugs but I also think I read a review about someone using their own cup, so I don't know if these people brought their own mugs or if they just didn't have anymore or what. It took everything in me not to ask them to pour my drink into a mug. I didn't because I would have felt stupid, but I wanted to. I know it's dumb but it bothered me a little. I liked the layout and I will return because I can tell that it normally is conducive to studying/working and that it's better when it's less crowded. Nifty decor, quiet spot to study or work. I can dig it. This place is a little ways from my house compared to Austin Java but I always find myself making the drive. Two reasons why: The place is quiet & they have lots of large tables to spread out all my things. They serve a plethora of tasty snacks from cliff bars, to chips, to cookies and even pizza. If you need a budget friendly mid day pick me while studying or working - they have lots of treats. I never have an issue finding a place to sit and their WiFi is reliable. They have several couches and chairs & an outside patio - this place is also great for a friend date. They only have a few spots out front so parking can be a bit tricky - free side street parking is available. Tip: Get their iced tea and add peach flavoring - it's the perfect mid day snack. read more

I live equidistantly between this place and Epoch. Each has their own charms, but I prefer Flight Path over Epoch for the following reasons: In favor of FP: -WI-FI is split among 5-40 people vs the 100 or so at Epoch -beer is available -plain pepperoni pizza is available -crowd is a little older and less chatty -marginally cleaner -breakfast tacos from Taco Deli are available in the morning -a lot quieter than most coffee shops -well lit Areas where Epoch still rules: -FP closes at 11:30 pm while Epoch is 24/7 -friendlier staff at Epoch -larger outside patio and more seating capacity outside -huge parking lot with easy street-side parking read more

I used to study here all of the time back in undergrad. Since then the place has changed a bit. There is a wider selection of snacks, primarily healthy, reduced gluten, free trade stuffs. Coffee is still on point. I love the demeanor of this place. Very chill. The back room is as quiet as ever. Parking is still a huge hassle. And very friendly waitstaff. read more
