This place is hilarious! I'll just start out by saying this place reminded me of the mom and pop diners I ate at as a kid while visiting my grandparents in Montana. I couldn't help but laugh! The only thing missing is the thousands upon thousands of trees surrounding the restaurant and a small dirt road leading up to it. Seriously, both places even had Maury on the television! Ha! Instead, Flo's is on the edge of a small strip mall in the amazingly tree-less El Monte. I came here for lunch with some coworkers on a Friday. Half of the parking lot was fenced off but there still was only one or two cars there. Flo's is a small restaurant, like tiny, with maybe ten tables (at the most) and a counter. And, like I said, daytime talk shows on the small TV in the corner. It was almost exactly like the small eateries I remember from Montana. According to the sign out front, they specialize in breakfast! My motto is that it's always time for breakfast! I was starving and not very excited about getting back to work so I formed my own breakfast meal to hold me over the rest of the day. French toast, three scrambled eggs, three sausage links, a huge pile of tater tots (oohh yeah), and a big cup of coffee. It was your average diner food but it still hit the spot perfectly. I used to come here often when I was a kid with my Grandpa and Grandma, but hadn't been back in a while. I decided to come here on Easter Sunday with my fella and mom for breakfast before we headed back to Vegas. We walked in and it was packed. There was one seat available and we were seated immediately. The table was a little tight, but we were greeted quickly and our drink orders were taken. I decided to order outside my comfort zone and ended up with the country breakfast. My fella decided to be copycat and ordered the same thing. My mom went with the pancake breakfast combo and we were all extremely happy with our orders. The gravy wasn't a favorite of mine, but I enjoyed everything else about my meal. The pancakes were really fluffy and delicious. I will definitely be ordering their famous french toast on my next visit and everyone else seemed to be ordering the menudo, so I look forward to trying that soon as well. The service was friendly, but I wish it was a little more attentive. We sat with empty cups a little longer than I would have liked. The prices are amazing. The service started off friendly and we were seated pretty fast. The food was nasty and the waitress got nastier. The pancakes taste like dirty burger grill and the eggs were rubbery. I sent back my chilli cheese omelet fully intending on paying for it and ordering something different but the waitresses response made me lose my appetite. She was mad I sent it back and while I fully understand it's not her fault it was not good she did not have to raise her voice. She asked if I wanted it remade and I said no thank you it did not taste good her response - "well you're the one who ordered the chilli cheese omelet you got what you ordered" WoooOOOoooow!!!!!! This is my first time here. I had just dropped off my car to a nearby shop and needed to kill 2 hrs. I decided to look for a coffee shop or restaurant to sit in. They were super friendly to me and allowed me to stay for as long as I wanted, even tho I was done eating. The waitress continued to check up on me. My food came out quickly, unlike what was said on the other reviews. I ordered the French toast combo, which included 6 halves of French toast, 3 sausages/bacon, and 2 eggs. The chilaquiles verdes were spicy and had way too much sauce, but they were filled with flavor. I won't ever order coffee here again, it tasted water down. This was our first time here. Friendly service and they make sure that you're taken care of. They open at 6am, 7 days a week, so it's great for you early birds out there. Had the Western Breakfast substituting potatoes for tator tots. It was delicious! Was a little disappointed that my side of pancakes were burnt but it was a nice size. They are known for their breakfast with many choices, however, the dinner & lunch have limited choices. The bf said the French toast was okay, not as good as mine but I do put a butt load of love in those slices so it's hard to compare ;D -menudo: Pass please. The place is kind of small and dark inside because they don't open their windows I guess. Decoration is interesting since there are some pictures of how El Monte was back in the days... When it came out, it was a lot. Chicken was fried perfectly, not too soft and with a nice crunch to it. Gravy was okay. Hash browns were a bit burnt. Scrambled eggs is well...scrambled eggs! The dish was just okay to me...maybe I'm not a chicken fried steak person? Wet Breakfast Burrito: it comes w/ a side of potatoes any way you want it. My bf got tater tots which he thought was pretty good. I had one and it was soft on the inside with a nice crunch on the outside. Best tater tots I've ever tried! Great little local place, old school and friendly with homemade food served with a smile, speedy, even though it's cooked to order and a good amount of food at good prices. Stopped in this morning since I was in the area for work and had some time on my hand. Great counter service and old school counter seats for single diners. I had the Chicken Fried Steak, gravy, biscuits, fried eggs and sliced potatoes. Everything tasted home made and fresh except the biscuit which I suspect was from a can but still good and more than enough to make me happy. Fresh coffee was free with with any breakfast or lunch entree Monday through Thursdays. My coffee was continually topped off and the cream was served in a stainless old school little creamer... just the way I like it. Looked like the breakfast burritos and omelets were popular choices with the regulars at the counter. Great home-made salsa was served with my eggs, oh yes baby, this salsa was good stuff. Minus one star for all the junk trinkets behind the counter collecting dust and bacteria, but otherwise looked like a clean place. With a name like Flo's, I expected a little more dead-on-old school-coolness that they could so easily achieve in this little place but instead it was just random and somewhat old. Nonetheless, I'd stop by again if in the area but would not go out of my way. All you locals support them because these kind of places are becoming more rare everyday. I got the impression they put a little bit of love in everything they serve. Check 'em out. Local place that's has a good atmosphere. Came here with my parents to have breakfast. Place was small looking from the outside and surprised this place closes by 2p.m. The interior was nice. There were pictures up in the wall displaying El Monte's history. Placed looked like it hasn't changed in years. I got the Italian sausage breakfast that was around $7 bucks. Which is the average price of their plates here. The food was fantastic. Came with hash browns, eggs, sausage, and toast. A big portion, I was full. Yay for Flo's! In my hometown of El Monte, you don't often have American Cafe's with the typical breakfast unless you head to IHOP or Denny's. Flo's is a pretty small cafe with big flavors. I am a big lover of hash browns and theirs is crispy just the way I like it. I've also had their omelettes and would definitely recommend those! It's honestly probably the best service I've ever had anywhere! Food is always great! I've never been disappointed and portions are huge! Food comes out at a reasonable time. That being said... It's always super packed! Sometimes there's a wait, but it's never for too long. It definitely gets hectic. I've called in to order to-go a few times and you can always tell how busy it is, but they still manage to get you your food quickly without sacrificing quality. Solid food! Biscuits and Gravy are on point! Fluffy biscuits and Gravy with chunks of sausage, ham, and bacon in it. Throw a couple eggs on top, some pepper, Tabasco, and you got some REAL breffist right there! Today I got a Tuna Melt and it was a no-nonsense tuna, cheese, and grilled-bread sandwich (straight to the point). I ordered a side salad and it was kind of weak: iceberg lettuce, small tomato chunks, a few thin slices of cucumber, 3 tiny rings of onion, and a slimy dressing. If the salad was made of a spring mix of lettuces and had more veggies I might be here everyday. But this is Flo's and I'm sure keeping things the way they are is what they've built their rep on. Food's good! I got the Chicken Fried Steak with Homestyle Fries and Sunny Side Up Eggs. It also comes with a side of toasts. I like how you can customize them. The main dish was the chicken fried steak but everything else was my choice, my side (can be hash brown, homestyle fries, mixed potatoes and tomatoes I don't know), my eggs (you tell them how you want it to be done) and the toasts (either white, wheat, or sourdough). It's filling to say the least! My husband got the pancake combo which was good. They were pancakes with bacon and scrambled eggs (again customer's choice since you can go for sausage links instead) so you can never go wrong with that. Very good food, but it took a while to get any service. Understandable during breakfast, but don't ignore a big hungry man when he is ready to eat! Once I got the managers/owners attention, food came quickly and as I said, it was delicious! I asked to taste the gravy that would go on the biscuits because I've had mixed results with different places, and this is one of my favorite dishes.
