I've eaten at the Flying Pie four times now, and each time have been terribly disappointed by the pizza. It's just not good. The dough is flavorless and tough, and the sauce is bleh. I can't get why they are so popular here. The last time I stopped in, I nixed the idea of pizza and went with the salad bar instead. Pre-chopped lettuce, watery tomatoes, garbanzo beans, sunflower seeds, and a huge bowl of pinenuts. I put way too many pinenuts on the wilted lettuce and felt vindicated. Atmosphere is four stars. It's quirky and cool. But the food is awful. Might be a good place to drink beer with friends who have kids. read more

I ordered a pizza for delivery at 12:40 PM on Sunday October 11, 2015. I was told it would take 60-70 minutes, a long wait, but for delivery on a Sunday I figured whatever I'll wait. We got a call saying it would be an extra 10 minutes. Again I thought whatever I'll wait. Then at about 2:00 my girlfriend and I called to see where the pizza was. Anthony said the driver was on the way. We waited another 20 min and Anthony said he was here. So I walked around my apartment building. No pizza. Called again. Anthony said he didn't know where his delivery guy was. So at 3:04 we get a call that the delivery guy was at my apartment. Only problem is we left. Why? Well we were hungry and sick of being jerked around. I feel very disrespected. I was told the pizza was at my apartment and walked around the building to find no pizza delivery guy. I will not be ordering from here again. I have never had worse customer service. These people should be ashamed of themselves Also I'm disappointed I have to leave 1 star, because Anthony and his coworkers deserve zero stars. read more

I write this review with a bit of sadness as this is a place I really WANTED to like... and even walking out the door I still wanted to like it more than I did. So I'll start off with the positives before I get to how I was disappointed. The pizzas themselves are good, and the topping combinations are very creative. We went on a "Gourmet Night" and so we got to try some of their more inventive combinations. Truth be told the best thing we ate was the dessert pizza... fresh fruit and basil? Yum! The pizzas themselves were well proportioned in terms of the ratio of toppings, to cheese, to sauce. A lot of pizza places fall down in this respect as they overload one or the other. So in terms of the food itself, Flying Pie gets the job done. The problem is that they fall down pretty much everywhere else. The restaurant itself is terribly laid out, and the food service areas leave a lot to be desired in terms of cleanliness and accessibility. Whenever a new round of pizzas is brought to the serving area, a huge line forms instantly and the pizzas are gone within minutes. There are no clean plates for return visits (which I'm sure has to be some kind of potential health violation) and there are no waiters/bussers clearing trash and such from tables. The salad bar also makes me fear for my health as items are not restocked and the bins are often dirty with "cross contamination" from items from other bins. The table layout is claustrophobic. Just trying to find room for a high chair at one of the larger tables was a major issue. I would say it is not a very "family friendly" place at all. And as I noted above, if you go on a "buffet" night, the line that forms every time new pizzas come out can be a major pain. Basically the restaurant is very poorly laid out, is very difficult to get around, and is a nightmare for small children. And to cap off our experience........ well, let's just say my entire family got very familiar with the bathroom later that night. So overall I don't see myself going back. The pizza itself was fine, and maybe I'd grab it as take out at some point in the future. But our experience at the restaurant itself was just so poor that I don't really see us eating there in the future... and that is somewhat unfortunate. read more

This review is for the Catering side of flying pie. If you have large groups and you looking for a quality prorecommend flying pie! And it is a bit more money than a chain pizza place but the quality is much better in my opinion. If you buy two five packs of pizza you get a pizza foe FREE. That's 11 pizzas! So for about a $125 I think that's not bad. And these are their specialty pizzas not just a one topping cheapo that you can get down the road. Absolutely awesome place to eat! Great atmosphere and the staff is very friendly and detail oriented. My wife and I were super hungry for lunch and decided to check this place out based on the great reviews. I can see why the majority of reviews are highly favorable. I had the 10" Contest Combo and it was over the top yummy! Could only eat half due to the complimentary bread sticks they offer. Luckily there was a fridge and microwave in our hotel room for a snickety snack later! Definitely no scrimping on the toppings and the quality was superb. Price for the portion and quality was very fair. My wife is from New Jersey so she knows good pizza. Just ask her...lol She had the 10" cheese and said it was "the bomb"! Happy wife, happy life! Look, the pizza is pretty good. Not outstanding, but it is fine for a fair price. However, the service is either a hit or a miss. Actually, it's more accurate to say that the service is either passable or a big miss. I get it, they're busy and that affects service. Mistakes happen, I can roll with that. But when they do happen, make it right - don't just lay some whiny pseudo-hipster excuse and insincere apology on me when I calmly register my legitimate complaint about something that's pretty important. Better yet, fix the problem. So my advice is to double check your food before you go! And don't bother getting an over-priced salad to go with your pizza. For $5.00+ they'll just put some lettuce and a couple of toppings (that you don't get to choose) into a very small plastic container. Lame. read more

Not the best pizza in Boise at all. The unique topping combos can be pretty good, but the plain pizza tastes worse than frozen digiornos, and the breadsticks were practically stale. The marinara sauce which came with them was flavorless and thick--as though it had been sitting out too long. It was gloopy and to be honest, a little gross. This has always been my favorite pizza place since I discovered it back in the 90's nothing else in the NW comes even close. My kids loved the giant ball of foil that continues to grow, the quirky and hip staff and the fact that they got to design a pie face on the menu and turn it in each time we visit. This is the only place we go to get pizza when we're home. The atmosphere is something to be praised: though loud, it's a fun kind of loud that settles your worries or stressors. The employees clearly love their jobs; they're one of the biggest reasons we love to eat there. The pizza is delicious. Hands-down, this is the best pizza joint in Boise, if not Idaho. Their eclectic menu pleases the most picky eater, and the mini salad bar IS the best salad bar in town. They have an all-you-can-eat pizza buffet on Tuesday nights: Gourmet Night. Classic local joint, pinball ,kids running around, the crew is friendly local people got free bread. Place is cool Go in August for the habanero pizza challenge. It's offered in 3 levels. If tried level 1 & 2 it's hot as hell but it's very good. The pizza toppings are well designed. And they give you tips on how to survive. My wife and I just left the pizzeria VERY disappointed, we had the buffet for lunch. The salad was the best part of the meal (although a little weak on toppings). There were eight types of pizza all but two had white sauce and were extremely disgusting (I left four on the table with a bite taken out and actually spat one out in a napkin, ick). The cook preparing pizzas had a beard uncovered, and was allowed to let his beard hair sluff off in the food. The staff was loud and playful to the point we waited at the cash register ten minutes to place an order. During and after our meal nobody asked us it the food was good or if we needed anything, and did not seem to notice when we left. We will not be back, this is the second time we left flying pie disappointed and will not recommend to others. However, Idaho Pizza company still has an excellent buffet and we will be returning there for lunch from now on, so all is not lost! read more

Wow...this is the kind of place I dream about when I dream about of having my own pizza place. Sure, I would change some (a lot of) things, but they have the idea right. Had I gotten into my cups on the beer taps, this might even have been a 5. They definitely had a lot I wanted to try, so a repeat is probably in the cards. I like what they do here with their pies. I went during lunch (so there is potential for this to go up) and even at that, what they were putting out was outstanding, for what it was. The only one I didn't like was the Samoan, as I thought what they were using conflicted with the sauce somewhat and unfavorably, but the chicken jalapeno garlic pizza was wonderful and the pepperoni pizza had no shame in its game. The soda fountain could have used a lot more work and to get to the bathroom, you go down a dark, nearly pitch black hall, but what the Hell. It's an interesting ambiance and added to the charm for me. This is also very inexpensive and the staff is fantastic. Definitely this is one of the greats of the area. read more

My bro-in-law stuck with a peperoni and sausage while I had the Pesto Primavera (Whole wheat dough, pesto, sharp cheddar, mozzarella, mushroom, tomatoes, artichoke hearts, garlic) Both were great. I really wanted this place to be good, but I'm going to say it was probably the wrong day to go and they seemed understaffed. The device was ok we got in line placed our order for a few pies and some knots - the knots were quite good but the red sauce was cold. About 30-45 minutes later our Pies came. They were ok not a lot of cheese and the crust is a bit thicker than I prefer. We got a Garlic Chicken and the chicken was as dry as jerky and flavorless the Stromboli was quite good - good flavor and the sauce had good flavor. Note - they we pretty busy and so understaffed the manager was having to cook and take care of the issues. Have frequenting FP for well over a year. Started with a weekly lunch with a friend when they had there lunch slices then moved into a couple visits for dinner and tried there Habenaro pizza a couple times. Now they do there lunch buffet which for 3 slices and a drink is still 5 bucks with unlimited breadsticks is one of the best deals in town. Probably best place to eat in the valley. As others have stated in poor reviews, the service is kind of spotty. But, that is really part of the charm of the place. They are more scattered than bad. Which adds to the feel. The one out in Meridian is far more "modern" feeling, if that is your thing. They can also be a bit slow. The thing is, is this really is the best pizza around. Their sour-dough crust is just simply amazing. Tons of different pizzas. I've never had a bad pizza. Period. They produce great pizzas, every time. If you want the best pizza in Boise, and understand the place is fun and a little off. This is your place. If you are overly stuffy, probably not your place. Oh, and you can also buy the pizza pieces to take home to make your own. I've taken home dough, sauce and cheese to grill my own pizza with my own toppings.
