Lousy service ruined a recent visit. Our waitress was MIA most of the time. After waiting more than 30 minutes for our breakfast (and watching people around us being served even though they were seated AFTER us) I had to go track her down. She was hanging out at the front bar talking to some guy, and didn't really seem to care much about me, her unhappy customer. Told me she would "go check on the good". Gee. Thanks. Food finally came and was good, but certainly not worth the wait. Also, I had ordered tea when we first sat down, and it was served in a small metal teapot, about 8-10 oz., not enough for two cups. By the time our food was served I wanted another cup of tea and requested it. The waitress took the pot from the table and came back a few minutes later. I let the pot sit do the tea would steep a bit before I poured it. When I did pour it, it was almost clear - hardly any color at all. I opened the pot and saw that she had reused the same tea bag from the first pot. It was undrinkable. I was told that if I wanted a fresh tea bag, I would be charged full price for another tea, which was over $2.00. For a 5 cent Lipton tea bag. Really???? Never again. Been there before for breakfast and had a wonderful meal. Went there for dinner and was disappointed in the meal. My wife had the Caprese Salad and I tried the Grilled Marinated Long Stemmed Artichokes - both were ok. We both had the Herb Roasted Free-Range Chicken it was little over done. But when we order drinks to start, the bartender Lindsey, she seemed inexperience in mixing drinks, did not get the order right the first time and the second time- the drinks seemed watered down. read more

Came here for brunch with some girlfriends and had a good experience. We were seated quickly even though it was a weekend and prime brunch time, and the staff was also friendly and attentive. Ambiance was a little weird, but everything seemed really clean. I ordered huevos rancheros and they were a little different then I expected but was it was delicious! One person ordered an omelet and hash and she ate every last bite. Another person had one of their takes on eggs Benedict. I don't remember which one but she did say it was really good. They have the basic brunch options but also some different selections if you want something more interesting then your typical omelet with toast. I'd definitely come back here again. read more

Went for the first time today. Loved the decor. From the time we sat until they took our drink order was a good 10 minutes. Another 10minutes before he took our food order. Waiter was very friendly but it seemed like he forgot about us. We were a party of 5 with 2 adults and 3 children. The kids ordered pancakes and loved them. I ordered eggs Benedict. My husband ordered Mexican eggs Benedict and his eggs were over poached. Looked almost like a hard boiled egg. He did like the taste of the sauce. This all unfolds food comes out the prime rib is sliced very thin also 1/2 hero size 4oz of meat and cheese garlic bread cole slaw tasted old or just turning Nd onion rings Dripping with oil and the chili had smelly cheese on top like feet. Finally stopped in for lunch, we had to wait a few minutes before we saw someone to seat us. I had the chicken pot pie and my son had the short rib chili. Drinks and salad came out quickly, we had a very short wait for the main course. Both dishes were piping hot, the crust on the pot pie was crisp and flakey and both were delicious. The price was good the we had a wonderful meal. It did take a while to get the check but there was only two waitresses working the dining room and it was 3/4 full of guests, so understandably why it took a bit to get the check. read more

I've been here twice for breakfast and its been pretty delicious both times but it helps that I've only gotten the maple cream fondue. I've never even seen another place have a breakfast fondue but having french toast cut up with strawberries and bananas that I can dip into a bubbly maple cream is AMAZING. Everyone else that I've eaten with always seemed very satisfied with their meals. I like that they have a special coffee every time. The first time I went it was pumpkin spice and today it was blueberry. I like places that think out side of the box with menu items and I believe that they achieve that. read more

The food at the Flying Pig Cafe was actually pretty good and quite satisfactory. However the customer service at the place was astoundingly atrocious. When my girlfriend and I walked in (just a party of 2 may I mind you) there was no one to greet us at the door or tell us how long a wait would be. There were at least 4 separate occurrences that a server or worker made direct eye contact with us and still paid us no mind - not even to tell us someone will be with us in a minute. There was a woman working at the bar directly next to the main entrance who wasn't serving any customers and still managed to not acknowledge us. As we stood there for a good 10-15 minutes unsure if we should just seat ourselves, a woman cleaning the tables finally sat us in the corner. However, it took an entire 25 minutes for someone to finally come and serve us water or even introduce themselves as our waitress to take our orders... only because my girlfriend called to the waitress that was serving the table next to us asking for service! When we finally got our food another 20 minutes later, it almost made it up for the horrible service and wait time, but we still managed to watch 3 other parties walk out because they were never seated or acknowledged!! I understand that some days are busier than others, but this was outrageous. It felt like we were an inconvenience to be served. Needless to say, I will never be going back. read more

I always look forward to eating at the Flying Pig whenever I visit my parents on LI. The breakfast food is my favorite in the neighborhood, it's all good, pancakes, omelettes, French toast, waffles, benedicts, etc. Cinnamon roll pancakes earned the right to be called famous! I love that they serve breakfast all day and also have a big lunch menu. Also a big fan of the bar and live music, definitely gives the place a big city cafe feel in the heart of the suburbs. Excuse me while I lay it on thick, hands down the best pancakes I've had on Long Island! I ordered the Cinnabon pancakes and they did not disappoint. Perfectly crisp and frosted, and it went perfectly with my hazelnut iced coffee which was also also totes delish. Although my amazing server Sam took very good care of me all the servers were extremely attentive from the moment I walked in. This is the first time we have tried this place based on recommendations from family members. We were there for lunch. I had the smoked turkey sandwich with bacon and cheese on toasted sourdough bread. The turkey and the sourdough were pretty good, but the bacon was undercooked. Also, the fries were coated --- a sin in my book. It's not hard to make crispy fires. Coating them is the easy way out and, to me, they don't taste as good. My wife had the kielbasa sandwich on toasted rye bread. She liked it but thought they skimped on the amount of kielbasa. She had tea and I had a vanilla shake, which didn't have much of a taste. Their breakfast menu looked terrific and we want to taste some other lunch items so we will probably be back in spite of today's mixed review lunch. read more

However, the silverware was filthy with crusted food and the glasses were smudged and cloudy. We were told that was because it was busy the day before. Presentation is the best thing about this restaurant. The building has a cool theme on the outside. The inside is very cozy. The food was nothing special. It's so-so generic breakfast. This cafe is really cute on the outside and very nicely decorated on the inside. The inside is very modern and comfortable. We went on a Sunday at about 11:00 and when we walked in they told us it would be a 15 min wait. However there were 4 tables that were not occupied and after about 10 minutes they sat us down and also another couple that was waiting. I don't understand why we had to wait the ten minutes because the tables were cleaned and ready to go when we walked in. That was not right. We were happy with the breakfast food that we ordered. I ordered the corn beef and eggs and home fries. I asked if the corn beef was out of a can and they said it was but that they jazz it up. Honestly I was surprised to hear that because they are supposed to be a specially breakfast cafe and I would assume that they would make there own homemade version. I loved the homemade home fries. They make them with little bits of onion and peppers. Very good. Also the portion size is a good size and the food came out hot. My husband had eggs Benedict and it was very good. Now this is the main reason why I gave it 4 stars. The coffee tastes great but the only problem is No ONE comes around to ask you if you would like a refill. This is a breakfast cafe and in all of the similar places like this in my experience have someone walking the floor to ask if they would like a refill of coffee. There are many people attending the tables as far as setting them up and cleaning but no one serving coffee refills. The wait staff asks but no one actually comes by with the coffee. We had to ask several times. If they are smart they should assign one person just to walk the floor and ask if they would like a refill, especially when it's busy. If they do that then they deserve the extra star. Hope they read this review. I'm only trying to help your business. The service in this cafe is not good at all. Instead of seeing what the patron needs the wait staff were hanging out out front by the bar area and front desk. Been here a few times, right when they opened and more recently. Overall it's just OK, nothing really special or amazing. Food is middle of the road, can't really complain about nor can I rave about it. The reason for the low rating though is that if it was amazing food I'd deal with the issues. Price, it's expensive, not a cheap breakfast, brunch or lunch. And for the prices I'd expect to be amazed. The kitchen is painfully slow, too the point that both times we started to debate to leave because we were so hungry. read more

Do NOT go here if you have food allergy! Was denied service because they did not want to deal with my food allergy!!! This has never happened before at any restaurant! I always tell the server about my allergy, what I want to eat, but that I could eat something else if my choice doesn't work out. Every other restaurant has always been able to manage and serve me safely. Even after I suggested I just have a bowl of fruit, which would be totally safe if they practice normal food prep precautions, the server said they would not serve me. Unbelievable!!! However the omelette my wife ordered was dry and the potatoes were room temperature - very bland (little pepper, no onion). I'm not saying it's a bad place. I'm just saying that it's nothing special; it's worth dining in only if you live around the corner. I would not travel more than a couple of miles to eat there. Also they really need to pave their parking lot. And I think the waitress could be a little quicker to take our payment. I couldn't help but think that she made us wait quite awhile in hopes that we would simply leave her $40 for a $32 check. We left her just under 25% for mediocre service. This place is cute. The food is good but really pricey for what it is. It's always crowded and you feel like you're on top of the other guests. I guess if you like cozy, this is the place for you. Nice local place where you can bump into a lot of old and new friends. Was reasonably happy with breakfast. Prices a bit on the high side, but service was good and food was good, though bacon was completely overcooked...I like crisp bacon, but this was left in the deep fryer for too long, so it lacked flavor. Toast was overcooked, had black burn marks. Pancakes were very big, but a bit doughy. Enjoyed the eggs and hash browns. Dinner was disappointing. Service was good, though we lost our server for a while when waiting for the check. There were no specials on the night we went, though we came back because our breakfast server had raved about the specials. Small, very unique menu; a bit on the high side given its new status and limited offerings. Some prices: House salad $8.95; Their burger, which arguably is not just a plain beef burger $13.95. We got the French onion soup, which was excellent - homemade and plenty of onions and cheese. Braised beef was tender and tasty, though the flavor came from the sauce alone - the sauce was good, but the beef was overcooked and tasted like chunks of pot roast. On a bed of risotto, which was overcooked and mushy. Stuffed pork chops were a very unique item. The stuffing was excellent; however the pork chops were overcooked, dry, and tasteless - so dry that they were so hard to cut, that cutting them caused all the stuffing to get squeezed out. Sides were not electable and were: red potato mashed potatoes with skins, which were excellent; and a carrot and broccoli rabe mix - an odd choice because not everyone likes broccoli rabe and there were no other choices - I do and I liked the mix, my wife does not so she didn't eat most of it. I believe the owners were at the bar on a laptop and they said good bye to us - that was the first time we saw them the entire night - think it may be a wise choice for them to monitor what's going on in the kitchen to ensure it is of the quality I think they want and maybe float around the place, given it's a new place (I guess we all become experts at running a place because of shows like Bar Rescue and Kitchen Nightmares...LOL). Not sure if we will go back for dinner; will probably try breakfast again. read more

DON'T JUDGE A BOOK BY IT'S COVER!!! By the looks of the outside I was expecting your typical burger joint. Completely the opposite. Loved the black table clothes accompanied with the pink napkins and lit candles. The food was absolutely delicious. I highly recommend the adult mac n' cheese or the beer cheese fondue.
