I have lived here my entire life, hearing about Flying Star Cafe but never having actually gone to try it.. I'm here to tell you NOT to be like me! Go! Run! (hahaha kidding) I think I'm on my third visit now to Flying Star and it's now one of my favorite breakfast places. I love that they have internet made available so people can do their work while they eat. I have tried a few of their behind the glass bakery items as well as their pancakes & french toast. I personally wasn't a fan of the french toast but that was just because of the drizzle/icing.. but the flavor was good, that's for sure! it seems that Flying Star wants to charge higher prices for a little bit of food! I usually order the half a Ranch Breakfast because 2 eggs and 2 sa patties are too much with the potatoes and toast. in the Half a Ranch Breafsst everything was the same except you got one egg, one patty, and a little less potatoes. what I got today was 1 piece of toast ( normally get two) 1 sausage patty, one egg and 3 potato wedge, that's a! and tha cost me 11 bucks plus tip! There's other Flying Star Cafes and I've gotten what I ordered, but the one at Rio Grande and NOB Hill are awful! read more

I really loved out visit here. First off I love the seating arrangements and how there's seating at the top or the area then more seating down below. Kinda like my cat I like to watch from above. Service is quick, the food is high quality and delicious! I got the Chinese salad and it was perfect! I love how they put jicama in there! They really inspired my Chinese salad I make at home. We also tried the upside down cake and it was the best I've ever had. We also just got a few cakes to try and all were moist and delicious. Overall it's is delicious, a little pricey but worth it for quality food. read more

I used to frequent this Flying Star when I lived a lot closer, and it's a nice spot to study, grab a quick bite or meet a friend for lunch. They have a bunch of seating both indoor and outdoor and a fairly extensive menu. I love that they have breakfast all day, and a wide assortment of baked goods. The price is pretty steep, but portions are solid and everything is fresh. No drink refills, only a self serve water station. You order when you walk in and the food is brought to your table. I would highly suggest this as a study or work spot due to the strong WiFi and ample seating- the only downside being the no refills situation! read more

Came here for a quick pick me up of coffee and something sweet. Great place to just hang out or do a little work. It's a busy place but not very noisy, which is wonderful! They have a great variety of food items, drinks, and fresh pastries. All the staff were very friendly and attentive! read more

Consistent mediocre or bad service. Woman asked to help I needed a minute she left. I waited behind the counter. Another woman walked up - watched me looking at items and waiting in line and helped people that walked in after me. Girl looked annoyed when the people offered to let me go when I pointed it out but the service member seemed to lack manners and situational awareness. I have been coming to Flying Star several times a week since the beginning when it was Double Rainbow. In the past couple of years the service has gotten so bad that I'm not coming here much anymore. All the locations are painfully slow, and sometimes there's a line out the door waiting and only one person working the counter. And frequently my food sits up on the line getting cold and there's no one to bring it out to me. So sad since this has been my "go to" restaurant for so many years. The service, while kind, is very slow since they are perpetually understaffed. I waited at least twenty minutes in line and an additional 20 minutes for the food. The current model is archaic: standing in line to order and then seat yourself while paying full service prices. Prices continue to go up, like everywhere, but value and quality aren't being maintained. I hear new ownership is in the works. I hope they will address these issues. Maybe I will try again in late October. read more

Some of these reviews might be infatuation with being in a new city, but this place was fantastic. I was a huge fan of the outdoor seating and the water fountain. This is the first breakfast place to eat at in New Mexico, and it was a great choice by our director. I had the buritto with the chili on the side. The red chili and green chili had little spice to either of them but they had plenty of flavor to them. The buritto had plenty of filing and it feels way more fresh than what I am used to. I really enjoyed it. In addition, I had a oatmilk chai latte and it was awesome. I'm a huge fan of it, and it was a generous portion of a latte. I was able to save half of it for the hike up the sandia peak, which was also amazing. You do order at the counter and they bring you your food. Pretty quick service for a fairly busy morning. read more

We came in on a Sunday morning and I had the Saucy Croque Madame. I forget what my girlfriend ordered. There was a lot of water at the table we sat at, yes we could have sat anywhere, but it was someone busy and it was the only table at the time that could seat our party. The Saucy Croque Madame was just ok for my liking, the sauce was too rich for me. Overall we had a fine time having breakfast catching up with some friends. I would order something else next time. I will say in the past we have ordered online and the order was incorrect and they were quick to take care of the issue, so the customer service is on point. read more

The Flying Star in Corrales was our favorite place for food over the past five or six years. We live in Corrales, so it was both convenient and predictable in terms of quality. We liked the food, the staff and the seating options. However, this week we stopped by for a quick lunch--simple, a burger and fish--and we were unpleasantly surprised by the unnecessarily long wait (20min) for our food, and the higher prices. The staff were clearly struggling, and said they were short staffed, but it was clear there were management problems. Our tab came to over $50. Less than some other places, but not worth the cost for poor service and indifferent food prep. We may be back, but not soon. read more

This review is based on just one visit to the corrales location on Alameda. I guess the first thing that surprised me was that you actually order at the counter and pay at the counter. The location is attractive. Again based on one review all I can say is that it was okay. I mean you're sitting at the tables and you don't even get water refills. Place has a nice vibe. I personally think it's a little overpriced for what you get in terms of service. I ordered the over stuffed tortilla quesadilla and thought it was just okay. I'm not overly excited about trying flying Star again. I like a little bit more service for my dollar. And of course, they do ask for tips once you pay. I always feel obliged to give at least 10% although I think it's sort of a rip off not just here but at all places that offer only counter service. read more

Stopped for a quick bite and ordered the "carne adobada burrito". Should be called potato burrito. Not at all what I expected. The red chili sauce tasted more Tex Mex than that delicious, authentic, NM chili you find at other places like Golden Pride. There were a couple chunks of meat and the rest was chunky pieces of potato. You are better off going to golden pride or even weck's for a better meal. I used to love this place, but lately most the food entrees I've ordered have been pretty bad. Order a burger if you go. Can't go wrong with a burger, I guess. I stop in here maybe once a month among other places when I am coming back from a photography trip with buddies. The food is first class, pastries, cookies, pies, sandwiches, salads... you name it. Prices are slightly high, but you're getting better quality, better tasting and more food than at similar places. It's a great place to meet people and site and enjoy some snack and have a coffee. Went back with a large group of friends on Friday night, and my trust was regained after the last not great visit. They happily accommodated us, and everyone's food came out in a timely fashion, correct and delicious as always. I heard lots of complements on the seasonal bowls, avocado toast (which is always a fave), and the queso "mountain" of fries. I tried the "mountain" and is was quite fantastic, though it's more of a baby bird nest and absolutely not a mountain or even rolling hill. I also tried the pumpkin pecan cheesecake and WOW. Flying star can be a hit or miss depending on what you are wanting to do. The prices have increased drastically over the years and the food quality and portions have gone down. Not only that but the company's treatment of employees is horrible and they are not allowed to help customers who have allergies very well with their 'secret' desserts for ingredients. The magic is gone. It's been a few years since I've eaten there. We split a tossed Cobb salad. The chef forgot to add the bacon and avocado. The runner didn't catch it. You'd think they'd train their runners to help with quality control. They must be understaffed in the kitchen and the Home Office must not care. They used to make their Cobb with sauteed arugula. Now it has only dull lettuce. They used to serve it with Parkerhouse rolls. Then they just served generic rolls. Now they don't even serve those. There are now so many options in Albuquerque. We'll never go back to Flying Star. Sinking, sinking, sunk. P.S. The only thing that hasn't changed is the management still allows single jerks "studying" all day to take up prime booths for four. well well well....l used to be a GRAND fan of this establishment. The food brings a smile to my face-the customer service, not so much. As a paying costumer, you would think the hospitality would be nothing less than stellar, right? WRONG! As my acquaintance and I were simply enjoying our meal and studying hard, one of the so called elite employees was showing her obvious distaste of our presence. She made not so discreet remarks about the time frame of our visit. She was very rude while handing us our meals, and afterwards made snide comments about us to her coworkers. It was a Sunday morning after the balloon fiesta and it was busy but the food was delicious and the service exceptional! When we placed our order the young man misunderstood and ordered us a side of toast when we asked for French toast when the order arrived the mixup was easily cleared up with the server Blake, who was awesome and the manager. I don't know what happened today but toast was burnt badly, bacon & sausage undercooked. They were serving different potatoes that was like cafeteria food not good either. Racist staff, overpriced food, and terrible service! My rating was based on the following. 1. Chicken Couscous was small in proportion to cost and was not filling. 2. Asked for a complimentary soda refill and staff member had to ask permission from cashier to do so. 3. Went into the back of a long line and cashiers ignored us, left register, and served the white customers behind us. Made us feel ashamed and embarrassed to be minorities. Two different white customers were assisted before us. We spoke with managers Stephanie and Manuel about the situation and told them how cashier Kaitlynne and staff treated us. Manuel apologized to us, told us he would talk to the staff, and offered a partial refund. Would not recommend at this time. read more

So I ate half way through my burrito when I bit into this plastic, which is the plastic that holds the loaf of bread in the bag. Yuck!!! Flying Star, I do hope you talk to your kitchen staff and make sure they are careful when they cook. This could've gone really bad. We always order and eat at your establishment and it just took this one mistake for my wife and I to stop eating at your restaurant. We're very disappointed.
