I absolutely loved my experience at Forbes Tavern! My partner and I stopped here while on a little getaway to Pittsburgh and tried due to great reviews. What a cool spot!! To start, our bartender was so friendly and helpful. We loved her. She took the time to explain some local brews, let us taste and we loved them! Secondly, she was very helpful when ordering. We started with the Pretzel bites and Wow! Buttery, chewy, fluffy perfection. These were awesome paired with their honey mustard. For main entree I had the Rice Bowl with grilled chicken. This bowl was packed with flavor!! So incredibly good with just the right amount of spice. Definitely not typical Tavern food which was really nice. I was in town for a convention and my group of about 20 or so people came here two nights in a row and we had the best service from Maria! She took care of us and treated us like family. We were only there for drinks, not food so I can't speak to that but the place is nice and cozy and Maria and the rest of the staff made it just perfect. In Pittsburgh for a three night exploration and baseball game. Stayed downtown and stumbled upon Forbes Tavern. Super impressed, great food, drinks and service. Rea and Donte made our experience. They worked incredibly hard and made us feel like regulars. My wife proclaimed "best wings anywhere" and she's a connoisseur. The French Onion Soup was also a big highlight. Mac-n-cheese is to die for and the flatbreads are really pizzas, incredible pizzas. We ate here all three nights and had incredible experiences each time, highly recommend. Shout out to the kitchen staff, after the game Sunday they got a huge party and didn't miss a beat. read more

Nothing beats a Yuengling draft and this was cold and crisp very happy with that. I liked the pretzels I had crunching outside soft inside with a side of honey mustard. Dark room/bad lighting, sports on the TV, bar seating, and a few high top tables. It's not super big but it's a decent size for the Pittsburgh area. The food was subpar - the fried pickles appetizer was huge and came with a good side sauce. The mac and cheese was a solid 7/10. Night and day experience of who is working. I stopped by on Monday the 7th and did not even get acknowledge despite shuffling to different parts of the bar so I left. I gave it a another try on the 8th before the Penguins and game and it was completely different. Servers were on their game and attentive. I spoke to one of them about my previous experience and she apologized, with in minutes the owner, Maurice came over to to express his concerns and offered to buy me drink. I ordered the hot sausage sandwich and it was not good. Couple people ordered the cheesesteaks they were dry and full of grizzle. The ones that got the salads said they were much better. We found the waitress to be very impatient, almost to the point of being rude. When I asked her about my Cajun fries because the ones they served my food with were playing she said I'll bring out the season and you could put some on it. I didn't season my food. I was looking for a good burger at a place I haven't been to before and I ended up at Forbes Tavern. It's a fairly small place, but for dinner it wasn't crowded at all. We started out with the cheese balls for an appetizer. They were basically hush puppies with cheese inside with marinara on the side. They were pretty good, but I wouldn't be dying to get them again or anything. Rhinegheist was the brewery of the month, so we got some huge beers (23 oz) for the price of a pint. My friend and I both got the Good-A-Burger and my husband ordered the Blackened burger. Make sure to order either "red", "pink", or "no pink". My husband ordered his medium rare, I ordered mine "pink" - mine was cooked perfectly, but his barely had any pink. I thought my burger was great. The cheese was gooey and melty, the bacon was crispy, and I love mushrooms. My friend ordered hers without mushrooms, but it came with mushrooms anyway.
