An amazing place I've been coming for a while. Their Taiwanese noodle soup is amazing and their beef roll is top notch. If you can, go for the wavy noodles. The Taiwanese noodle has depth, flavor and soft squishy noodles. Recently I went and our server Aden took care of us by recommending the popcorn chicken and wontons. For those of you that are struggling with parking, go down the street and there's is usually parking.

The portions are far too small for the price. The wonton soup had only a few wontons despite costing almost $20, which felt like poor value. The food also didn't taste like authentic Taiwanese cuisine. The flavors were unusual and not very enjoyable. The wontons tasted like inexpensive frozen supermarket wontons rather than freshly made ones, and the sauce lacked depth and flavor. The braised pork over rice was overly salty but still lacked richness. The pickled cucumbers seemed under-pickled and tasted bland. Overall, I was disappointed with both the quality and value of the meal and would not recommend this restaurant.

Genuinely amazed at how good everything here was! The menu is small and they've seemed to perfect every item on it. My personal favorite was the Taiwanese beef rolls. The scallion pancake was perfectly sweet and savory with such flavorful and juicy beef inside. The cucumber added the perfect crunch. The pork over noodles was fantastic and packed with flavor. I loved the texture of the noodles. Last but not least, the chili wontons were fabulous with such an amazing sauce that we could not get enough of. I can't wait to return to try more off the menu.

Everyone knows parking in convoy is terrible especially on a Friday night. The parking lot in this shopping center in also terrible. But that's all I'll say for parking 1/5 When we arrived there was just a short wait, roughly about 10minutes but it was fine because it gave us time to go through the menu. We got bar seating which was a nice vibe and plenty of table space to eat. Great lighting and also great customer service. The staff was friendly and very helpful, always making sure we were ok. I got the Taiwanese beef noodle soup which was so good. There are two options for noodles, Wavy noodles or classic straight noodles. I picked Wavy noodles and it worked out well and was delicious. The portion size is huge, I couldn't finish it so I packed it to go. The beef was torched to give it a Smokey taste. We also got the Popcorn chicken and that was also a huge portion! It was soooo good! 5/5 Also got two drinks lychee and pomelo 5/5 Overall experience 5/5 I'm going to come back forsure!

Super cute spot for some food that hits the soul. The aesthetic is giving sushi spot and it's cute. As for the food, I got the Taiwanese beef noodle soup and thought it was sooo good. There's a choice between straight thin noodles and wavy softer thick ones and I went with the larger ones- would recommend that one! My dish was a 9/10. My boyfriend got the pork over rice and thought it was good but slightly on the saltier side- his rating was a 8/10. We also got the scallion pancakes which were ok! They were pretty dense and I don't think I'd necessarily get that again. The servers were super nice, Kalee and Nina. They were attentive when taking our order and when we needed a refill on water they came immediately without us asking. Their mango jasmine tea is also really good. Would overall recommend this place!

Came to formoosa with a couple of friends. I know a terrible parking experience is expected in Convoy, but formoosa is on a whole other level. The parking lot layout is odd, small, and tight, with heavy foot traffic, so expect to struggle during peak hours. formoosa itself is a pretty solid spot. The inside looks very clean and modern, and the decor makes the place feel very bright and inviting. It was not crowded at all when we arrived around 5 PM on a Tuesday. There are QR codes on the table that you can scan to view the menu on your phone. FOOD: My friends and I had mixed reviews about the food. One friend got the pork over rice and said the pork oddly tasted more like beans than meat. My other friend got the sesame noodles and enjoyed them. Taiwanese Mazesoba (3.75/5) - Tasted good and had a nice snappy texture. The flavor itself felt pretty one-dimensional and was on the salty side, even after a good mix. It felt like it was missing an element of something I couldn't quite pinpoint. I'm not mad about it, though. Scallion Pancakes (4/5) - Crispy and flaky. Came with a dipping sauce made of what I think was vinegar, chili oil, and a kind of soy sauce. SERVICE: The service was great and attentive. Waters were kept filled, and they checked up on us often. Food came out pretty fast after ordering, too. TLDR// Solid spot in Convoy, but I'm not sure if the food here totally justifies the parking lot turmoil. Wouldn't be mad at returning.

Seated quickly with great service and was offered a drink immediately during the hot season. I had the lychee lemonade which was on the sweeter side. Very modern with an asian twist even though it was a smaller restaurant I enjoyed the open concept! Food portion looked great! Thanks Emily and Nina!

We ordered the Taiwanese Beef Roll, Chili Wontons, and Sesame Noodles. The beef roll was the standout by far - 1000% would order again. Super flavorful, great texture, and honestly the highlight of the meal. The chili wontons weren't spicy whatsoever and were just okay for me, and the sesame noodles were decent but didn't stand out compared to the beef roll. Service was friendly and efficient, and James and Aiden were holding down the fort and doing a good job keeping everything running smoothly. The vibe is casual but still lively enough for a fun lunch spot. They have bar seating and also serve alcoholic drinks. I'd come back again specifically for the beef rolls and to try a few other items on the menu, like the popcorn chicken and spicy beef noodle soup.

Parking 3/5 -Big plaza parking lot but this is a super busy plaza with a lot of restaurants so most of the time you'll have to find parking somewhere else. Service 5/5 -Friendly staff and water was served as soon as we sat down, attentive overall. Food 5/5 -Taiwanese Beef Noodle Soup $20.5, SO GOOD, wow the beef was so tender and soup was so flavorful and soothing! I liked the straight noodles more than wavy noodles because it felt denser, bouncier and just more similar to the ones I've had in Taipei. Loved the soft boiled egg and just overall PORTION SIZE, the big bowl of noodles is exactly what I look for every time I want noodles. Never change this please. They also torch it lightly before serving to give a smokey taste, I think it's a nice touch of detail. -Popcorn chicken $14.5, crispy and fragrant, very yummy no notes. -Lychee 101 $11.5 and Poomelo $11.5, both drinks were delicious!! The blend of jasmine tea and soju works sooo well, I would order again for sure! Ambiance 5/5 -Bar center with seats all around with a couple tables on the outer perimeter inside, tasteful modern interior. It feels very calm, lowkey and comfortable.

Excellent food. Not many seating with only one table so not quite little kid friendly, so the wait was longer than expected. Once inside, the wait time for the food to come out was not that long however, and the food did not disappoint. We ordered the popcorn chicken with the spice on the side, and the beef roll. Both were really great quality with the right amount of crispiness, maybe the best I've had. Kids also loved it. Ordered the mazesoba, with good level of creaminess and taste, with kids enjoying it as well. Well worth the wait.

My friends and I decided to try this spot since it had over 5k reviews but it ended up being really mid. Apparently they give you a free drink if you write a review on yelp or google so I can see how the reviews here may be skewed. The inside of the restaurant is pretty small. They have bar seating in a semi rectangle and a few small tables on the sides. The parking lot is pretty small and gets crowded easily so I would recommend carpooling. What we ordered: - Formoosa summer cocktail: This tasted like juice, very light and sweet, which I liked. It felt like a perfect summer cocktail. - Pork over rice: This dish was very salty and there weren't enough cucumbers in the dish itself to help cut the saltiness. It was hard to eat because I had the urge to drink water after every bite. - Taiwanese beef noodle soup: I didn't try this but my friend said it was mid. It does come in a huge bowl so would be good for sharing. - Pickled cucumber: Only a few pieces (mainly the brown ones) tasted pickled; the rest just tasted like regular cucumbers. - Scallion pancake: The outside was crispy but not flaky and the inside was a lot more doughy than I expected. Wish they had a better dip; it was just straight up chili oil. I'd say it was not bad but not good. - Chili wontons: I always compare every chili wonton with Din tai fung and this one was nowhere near as good as that. The wontons are pretty big and I didn't like how thick the dough was. I'd say you could skip this dish.

Great food! We ordered the beef noodle soup and the portion was pretty big. Not too spicy. The beef was tender and the broth was flavorful. We also ordered the beef rolls and those were good as well. I was craving for some good Taiwanese food and stumbled upon this spot on Yelp. It caught my eye because they had some happy hour deals going on even on a Friday afternoon! Their weekday happy hour is from Mon-Friday from 2-5pm. There were select appetizers and drinks on the happy hour menu that I really wanted to try, so we headed on over. The parking lot is kinda small and shared with multiple establishments. We went on an off hour but even then, there were only a couple spots left. I love a good mazemen so I figured it was a similar dry noodle concept but with Taiwanese flavors and different noodle type. It was actually pretty good and even though I'm a die hard Taiwanese Beef Noodle soup girl, I found myself eating more of the mazesoba. This is perfect for those that aren't craving something soupy but want some flavorful noodles. I really liked that they added generous amounts of fried basil with the popcorn chicken...that's how they do it in Taiwan to make the snack more fragrant. I'm always sad when there is little to none fried basil with my popcorn chicken..portions were also very generous, no change in portion size just because it is happy hour. Overall, love the weekday happy hour deals and the generous portions. Pricing is average, but definitely take advantage of the weekday happy hour if you can. Food is comforting and yummy but other than the Mazesoba that really wowed me, everything was decent! I would come back if I'm in the area and I'm craving Taiwanese food.

Liked it enough to go twice in a week. I liked their Taiwanese beef noodle soup. The beef was tender and juicy, noodles decent. There's depth missing in the broth but overall it's good. Braised pork over rice was ok, a little salty. The beef pancake was good although I wish there was more for the price. I didn't care for the spicy wontons-- the sauce is sweet and I prefer the sauce at din tai fung more. Service though was overall good. read more

Crappiest parking ever! I'm not sure if I would ever come back to this plaza again! Prone to accident! Cars just making an extra parking spot so they can go down and pick up food but parking is limited! You also have to pay for parking! ~$8.55 + $1.55 (service fee) for parking 3 hours! Seated immediately. Service was nice. I think the owner is there for the night. Small area mainly bar area so you'll always sit next to a stranger so they can maximize amount of people they can take in. Menu is on a QR code to be scanned. Recommend beef roll and popcorn chicken. Definitely do not recommend sesame noodles or pork over rice. Pork over rice is basic. Pork not extremely mind blowing. Sesame noodles was meant to be dry but definitely too dry. 2nd visit here. My husband wanted to come again for lunch. We got the beef noodle soup, pickled cucumbers, chili wontons, popcorn chicken, and the beef roll.All the food is delicious! The place is small and intimate with usually a wait time. The staff is friendly. My only critique is it has been difficult to be honored with where we are at on the waitlist. The servers are busy serving so seem to lose track of who should be seated next. Other than that really enjoy this place! read more

Hence, the reviews that call out servers by name are unreliable. Came here when visiting SD. The food was mid at best, and got baited by the falsely high rating. Portion size for the beef noodle soup was pretty large, but the soup was lacking in flavor. At $20.50, it's up there among the pricier places for Taiwanese beef noodles, and you can get much much better in the 626 (or maybe even elsewhere in SD). Solid Taiwanese food - the portion sizes are HUGE. We took home a ton of leftovers, but not for lack of trying! Only item not pictured was the pork over noodles, which really hit the comfort food spot. Plenty of meat/toppings on the each of the noodle entrees - everything is as filling and delicious. Came here to have brunch with my parents. We came near opening and were confused whether they were open with a table and chair on top of it set out front of the door. They were indeed open when we asked, and instead of moving the furniture out of the way, we had to walk around it. Normally not a problem but I had my dad with us who has a walker which made it difficult to get through. The guy at the bar didn't bother to move and help out. Not a good impression. Service was okay. I asked if anything was spicy he said no. And so my mom ordered the beef soup which was spicy. I ended up switching with her. I give service 2 stars. A bunch of young guys that don't communicate really well. I will give them benefit of doubt because the food was actually really good even the spicy beef soup. 3 stars overall experience. Convoy St has almost endless options of delicious food, bur you need to add Formoosa to your list. Their Taiwanese Beef Noodle Soup is rich, savory, a hint of sweet, and exactly what the stomach and soul needs.. especially in winter. A limited menu tells me they are confident in their items that they can stand alone, and boy are they right! I actually spent a few days in Taipei earlier this month and was able to compare Formoosa's soup to the source... and WOW. They nailed it! read more

We were disappointed with our experience. The beef noodle soup was actually very good, but unfortunately everything else fell short. The beef rolls were extremely oily. My daughter ordered the braised beef curly noodles, and the noodles were clumped together and stuck from what seemed like too much oil. They also had a bitter taste. The beef itself had a lot of connective tissue and lining, making it very chewy and difficult to eat. The pickled cucumbers were just okay. For the amount we spent, we expected much better quality. Looking back, we wish we had gone to Din Tai Fung instead. read more

For drink, I got the peach oolong milk tea. Perfect amount of sweetness for me. Some milk teas can be too sweet for my liking. I asked if it could be adjusted but it sounds like it is pre-mixed. I gambled for it anyway and I am glad I did. It was refreshing and well balanced. For appetizer, I got the sesame wonton. It was rich from the sesame but there was some vinegar I think in the sesame that helped balance it. For entree, got the new menu item, Taiwan Mazesoba. The dish was good but I felt like it was missing something. Veggies like bok choy and maybe chili crisp for some heat? The seasoning was also fairly similar to the pork over noodles dish which is what my friend had. The noticeable difference was that my dish had sesame and was slightly more rich. After a 24 hr fast, I am ready for a hot, savoury soup. Wanting to try a restaurant I've never been to, I invited my friend here. Once seated at the bar area, we saw a counter staff/waiter blowtorching the top of a large bowl of noodles. All three of us ordered it, one without the veggies. As an appetizer, we nibbled on the cucumber salad. Not the best cucumber salad and maybe it's just Formoosa's style but I found it too salty. Four pieces and I'm done with it. My friend's mom-in-law also ordered Popcorn Chicken because she saw someone had ordered it too. I liked it. Tender chicken, seasoned well with a contrasting dip. The Beef Noodle Soup with wavy noodles was tough to finish even for someone as hungry as I am. It's funny coz the noodles resemble garters from old underwear. The thought doesn't make it unappetizing though because I took home the rest to enjoy later. Service was fast, place was fast casual with a few tables but the best seats are in the bar area for sure because you get to see some last second prep action like "courtside seating". I am soooo glad we have a decent Taiwanese food spot with good (above decent) beef noodle soup, popcorn chicken and braise pork rice. First shout out to Cooper and Aden. I had the pleasure being served by them at two different times. Aden made sure my food came in hot and delicious. Cooper made sure I left Formosa that I want to come back again for both the food and the service, very courteous. Second, the quality of beef noodle soup "牛肉麵". The meat might be brisket and it is both tender and juicy. The cook did a good job slicing the meat so it doesn't get stuck in the teeth. The broth has a unique beef flavor with good amount of star anise and pairs well with green scallions. Flat noodle is definitely the way to go for more QQ. Popcorn chicken has good basil flavor and thigh meat isn't wasted by too much coating. So each bite we get a decent crunch and juicy meat. Braise pork rice has that bento on the train flavor and some people would call it "鐵路便當". I would feel very comfortable taking friends from LA or Cupertino out of town here if they are craving Taiwanese food. Inside has good lighting around the restaurant and the bar seating makes it cozy if you are grabbing a late night meal. And the restroom is clean. read more

The most decadent, delicious, chocolate, layered cake was our pick. As we were waiting tho, we saw the table side banana foster dessert being made and had to order that too! No regrets!! It was all perfect!! They also kindly brought us out a really good peanut butter and jelly macron, but the star was that it was topped with a gold dusted Wu Tang emblem on top - LOVE!! PS - even the bathrooms were fun! I really look forward to trying more of their restaurants!

We were drawn to this restaurant by its rave reviews on Yelp, but unfortunately, it turned out to be a very disappointing dining experience. The restaurant was extremely cramped, with only three small tables and most seating available at the bar. Traveling with a toddler, the three of us were squeezed around a tiny table. While the poor dining environment could have been overlooked if the food was exceptional, sadly, it was far from it. We ordered the Taiwanese Beef Noodle Soup, Braised Pork Rice, and Pan-Fried Dumplings, but none of the dishes were enjoyable. The noodles in the beef noodle soup were overly soft and lacked any chewiness, making for an unpleasant texture. The accompanying beef consisted of about four pieces that were tough and impossible to bite through--either the cooking time was insufficient, or poor-quality beef was used. If it had been proper beef shank, it wouldn't have been so unpalatable. The soup broth was the most disappointing part: it lacked the depth and richness of a proper stock and tasted like an instant noodle seasoning packet--overly salty, overly sweet, and far from authentic. To make matters worse, this mediocre dish was priced at $18.50, which is absurdly overpriced. The Braised Pork Rice should have been renamed "Salty Pork Rice," as it was overwhelmingly salty, with large chunks of pork that bore no resemblance to authentic braised pork. The rice itself tasted like it had been reheated multiple times--it was hard, dry, and lacked the fragrance of freshly cooked rice. As for the Pan-Fried Dumplings, the skins were limp and felt as if they had been made with glutinous rice flour, giving them a strange texture. The filling of cabbage and pork was bland and flavorless. Even the chili oil served on the side was inexplicably sweet, clearly adjusted to suit American fast-food preferences rather than preserving authentic Taiwanese flavors. Throughout the meal, there was no service to speak of. Apart from taking our order and delivering the food, no one came by to refill our water or check on us. Squeezed at a tiny table and faced with such subpar food, we couldn't bring ourselves to finish the meal and left early. As tourists, we have no need to sugarcoat our review in exchange for discounts or free desserts. If you're looking for authentic Taiwanese food, this is definitely not the place to go. Save yourself the trouble and try elsewhere. read more

So I haven't been around convoy for a while actually didn't know what to get for dinner I wasn't in the mood for crab hut or raki raki, so I went into this restaurant located in between them, Formoosa. At first I didn't know what to expect, but the restaurant decor is simple yet beautiful it seems to have a bar top style dining like an omakase. I sat down and was greeted immediately by Paige and Kai, Kai told me I was able to sit anywhere at the bar. After I sat down there were these QR codes to see the menu. To my surprise the menu was small with a small variety of specialty Asian foods not an omakase like I was expecting. I was happy to see a small menu because small menus mean they have freshly made foods and they specialize is a specific dish. I asked for what is recommended the staff told me the popular dishes are The Beef Roll, and the Beef noodle soup, and the chili wontons. So I ordered the chili wontons and Beef Noodle Soup. Amazing quick service by Paige and Kai in the front, and the kitchen staff worked efficiently to deliver the food to me and the other customers. After I received my food I was blown away by the presentation when I tasted the broth my palate was hit with a savory rich beef flavor that seeped through the noodles definitely a flavor bomb, the wontons were amazing tang from the vinegar and a beautiful spice fragrance from the chili oil. The beef noodles had several cuts of what seem to be super tender boneless beef short rib slightly torched for a subtle smokiness to bring everything together, the noodle soup was topped with a perfectly cooked Ajitama egg which added creaminess and some well cooked crisp bock choy to balance out the savoriness of the broth cleansing your palate. After those two dishes I had seen a ton of beef rolls being ordered so I had to try one myself. After both Paige and Kai checked in with me again I ordered some sesame balls for desert. 10/10 will come back. Chill music, amazing service, delicious food I have never had elsewhere, and beautiful cocktails I really want to enjoy with friends and coworkers after a long day of work. I recently tried Formoosa, and it was a delightful experience overall! I started with the Chili Wonton, and it was fantastic--exactly like the ones I enjoyed in Taiwan. The dish comes with pork wontons, chili oil, vinegar, and green onions, and it had just the right amount of spice. For my main, I ordered the Taiwanese Beef Noodle. I highly recommend switching the noodles to the wavy (big handmade) noodles for a better texture. The soup was decent, though a bit heavy on the MSG, and the beef was fresh and tender. My only downside was the wait--almost 30 minutes for the noodle bowl seems a bit long. Also, I noticed two employees cleaned up and handled trash before bringing our food without washing their hands, which raised some concerns about hygiene. Super cute interior and layout. Really liked their grassy wall with the cow. If anything, make the tables outside of the bar more accessible; the bar is pretty high and I feel like customers sitting there could be forgotten pretty easily. Noodles were super high quality, especially the Taiwanese beef noodle soup. They brought it out from the kitchen and flamed the beef separately. I got the dried noddles. The bowl made it hard to get to the sauce at the bottom but nonetheless still tasted awesome when it was evenly mixed. Popcorn chicken was great, except it didn't really come as an appetizer but rather altogether. Came here on a Friday night and was able to get a table for two with no wait. The server, Lex, was really helpful with picking between the amazing menu choices and very attentive. Drinks (mango magic and cosmic mule) were delicious and not too strong, but not weak either. The food was delicious and pretty reasonably priced for how much you get. Would definitely recommend the beef soup and popcorn chicken, with the sesame balls being a surprising delight! Only reason I didn't give 5 stars are the chairs.
