Came here with my wife and daughter for dinner. We had a craving for beef noodle soup and the beef roll. Wound up getting those plus cucumbers, mazesoba, and a couple of "cocktails". The beef roll is the best we've had in San Diego, the beef noodle soup is too. The noodles have great texture, the beef is flavorful and the broth is great. The cocktails are soju based so are lighter and a little sweeter. The staff is always so sweet to my toddler and the service is solid. It's a casual place that mostly has bar seating so don't expect fine dining service. It's very attentive, direct, and you have all you need without the pomp and circumstance.
It's located in a plaza with tons of other dining and so the parking gets busy. I had to park a bit down the way and walk over to the plaza. The restaurant is pretty small. They have very few tables and bar seating. My group had to wait to get seated, but their food was worth it. Their popcorn chicken was nice and crispy. I wish there was more flavor though. The beef noodle soup was probably the best I've tried around the area. The noodles are perfectly chewy and soaks up the very flavorful broth. The broth was so delicious. The service was quick once we got seated.
Genuinely amazed at how good everything here was! The menu is small and they've seemed to perfect every item on it. My personal favorite was the Taiwanese beef rolls. The scallion pancake was perfectly sweet and savory with such flavorful and juicy beef inside. The cucumber added the perfect crunch. The pork over noodles was fantastic and packed with flavor. I loved the texture of the noodles. Last but not least, the chili wontons were fabulous with such an amazing sauce that we could not get enough of. I can't wait to return to try more off the menu.
Delicious beef noodle soup with very flavorful broth, chewy wavy noodles, and tender beef. We also ordered the pickled cucumbers and mazesoba which were great, though the mazesoba a little salty. The lychee lemonade was very refreshing with free refills. Portions were great for sharing. Service was friendly and efficient! We came with a group of 7 and had to be split into 2 parties due to the space but this was expected and they were very accommodating. Would definitely come back!
An amazing place I've been coming for a while. Their Taiwanese noodle soup is amazing and their beef roll is top notch. If you can, go for the wavy noodles. The Taiwanese noodle has depth, flavor and soft squishy noodles. Recently I went and our server Aden took care of us by recommending the popcorn chicken and wontons. For those of you that are struggling with parking, go down the street and there's is usually parking.
Everyone knows parking in convoy is terrible especially on a Friday night. The parking lot in this shopping center in also terrible. But that's all I'll say for parking 1/5 When we arrived there was just a short wait, roughly about 10minutes but it was fine because it gave us time to go through the menu. We got bar seating which was a nice vibe and plenty of table space to eat. Great lighting and also great customer service. The staff was friendly and very helpful, always making sure we were ok. I got the Taiwanese beef noodle soup which was so good. There are two options for noodles, Wavy noodles or classic straight noodles. I picked Wavy noodles and it worked out well and was delicious. The portion size is huge, I couldn't finish it so I packed it to go. The beef was torched to give it a Smokey taste. We also got the Popcorn chicken and that was also a huge portion! It was soooo good! 5/5 Also got two drinks lychee and pomelo 5/5 Overall experience 5/5 I'm going to come back forsure!
The portions are far too small for the price. The wonton soup had only a few wontons despite costing almost $20, which felt like poor value. The food also didn't taste like authentic Taiwanese cuisine. The flavors were unusual and not very enjoyable. The wontons tasted like inexpensive frozen supermarket wontons rather than freshly made ones, and the sauce lacked depth and flavor. The braised pork over rice was overly salty but still lacked richness. The pickled cucumbers seemed under-pickled and tasted bland. Overall, I was disappointed with both the quality and value of the meal and would not recommend this restaurant.
This place was a bit small for our family of 5, but the food and service was great and the portions were generous. Everyone liked the beef noodle soup and popcorn chicken. We also ordered the sesame noodles which was okay, bit might have been more unique if it was a cold dish. Overall we would come back here again for sure.
Came to formoosa with a couple of friends. I know a terrible parking experience is expected in Convoy, but formoosa is on a whole other level. The parking lot layout is odd, small, and tight, with heavy foot traffic, so expect to struggle during peak hours. formoosa itself is a pretty solid spot. The inside looks very clean and modern, and the decor makes the place feel very bright and inviting. It was not crowded at all when we arrived around 5 PM on a Tuesday. There are QR codes on the table that you can scan to view the menu on your phone. FOOD: My friends and I had mixed reviews about the food. One friend got the pork over rice and said the pork oddly tasted more like beans than meat. My other friend got the sesame noodles and enjoyed them. Taiwanese Mazesoba (3.75/5) - Tasted good and had a nice snappy texture. The flavor itself felt pretty one-dimensional and was on the salty side, even after a good mix. It felt like it was missing an element of something I couldn't quite pinpoint. I'm not mad about it, though. Scallion Pancakes (4/5) - Crispy and flaky. Came with a dipping sauce made of what I think was vinegar, chili oil, and a kind of soy sauce. SERVICE: The service was great and attentive. Waters were kept filled, and they checked up on us often. Food came out pretty fast after ordering, too. TLDR// Solid spot in Convoy, but I'm not sure if the food here totally justifies the parking lot turmoil. Wouldn't be mad at returning.
Kahn and James are the best! I love that the service is quick and organized. Drinks and food were amazing and I loved checking this place out! We've been wanting to come here for awhile and finally got the chance. The vibe inside is wonderful and definitely gives a nice feel for some great food and atmosphere!
We ordered the Taiwanese Beef Roll, Chili Wontons, and Sesame Noodles. The beef roll was the standout by far - 1000% would order again. Super flavorful, great texture, and honestly the highlight of the meal. The chili wontons weren't spicy whatsoever and were just okay for me, and the sesame noodles were decent but didn't stand out compared to the beef roll. Service was friendly and efficient, and James and Aiden were holding down the fort and doing a good job keeping everything running smoothly. The vibe is casual but still lively enough for a fun lunch spot. They have bar seating and also serve alcoholic drinks. I'd come back again specifically for the beef rolls and to try a few other items on the menu, like the popcorn chicken and spicy beef noodle soup.
Parking 3/5 -Big plaza parking lot but this is a super busy plaza with a lot of restaurants so most of the time you'll have to find parking somewhere else. Service 5/5 -Friendly staff and water was served as soon as we sat down, attentive overall. Food 5/5 -Taiwanese Beef Noodle Soup $20.5, SO GOOD, wow the beef was so tender and soup was so flavorful and soothing! I liked the straight noodles more than wavy noodles because it felt denser, bouncier and just more similar to the ones I've had in Taipei. Loved the soft boiled egg and just overall PORTION SIZE, the big bowl of noodles is exactly what I look for every time I want noodles. Never change this please. They also torch it lightly before serving to give a smokey taste, I think it's a nice touch of detail. -Popcorn chicken $14.5, crispy and fragrant, very yummy no notes. -Lychee 101 $11.5 and Poomelo $11.5, both drinks were delicious!! The blend of jasmine tea and soju works sooo well, I would order again for sure! Ambiance 5/5 -Bar center with seats all around with a couple tables on the outer perimeter inside, tasteful modern interior. It feels very calm, lowkey and comfortable.

Seated quickly with great service and was offered a drink immediately during the hot season. I had the lychee lemonade which was on the sweeter side. hadn't eaten for almost 10 hours and was lowkey dealing with a hunger headache, so every bite i took made me feel like i was about to throw up. definitely need to come back and give this place another try when i'm feeling normal lols ordered the taiwanese beef roll, beef noodle soup, and pork over rice. the beef noodle soup was easily the best thing we got. they flame the beef at the end, and the broth was super tomatoey!! the bowl was huge and big enough to share~ also idk how they made their ajitama egg? it is the best i've ever had. super flavorful with a perfectly gooey center!! the pork over rice wasn't really for me. it felt like it was missing something, idk how to describe it. there isn't a ton of seating inside, mostly hand roll counter seats with a few tables. parking is also kind of a nightmare since the plaza is small and packed with restaurants read more

I ordered the Mazesoba and the beef roll and they were both really good. The mazesoba has a strong sesame flavor so it's perfect if you like sesame. They were nice enough to accommodate no cucumber for my beef roll which was fantastic. I also had the lychee 101 cocktail and it was nice and sweet. The service was great and James was awesome. Parking could be a little rough in this plaza during peak times and there may be a wait to get seated but it was worth it! read more

Liked it enough to go twice in a week. I liked their Taiwanese beef noodle soup. The beef was tender and juicy, noodles decent. There's depth missing in the broth but overall it's good. Braised pork over rice was ok, a little salty. The beef pancake was good although I wish there was more for the price. I didn't care for the spicy wontons-- the sauce is sweet and I prefer the sauce at din tai fung more. Service though was overall good. read more

Our first visit to Formoosa. Stopped in for lunch after picking up our car in the neighborhood. It's a small intimate space with three tables and counter space. To drink we ordered the Mango Jasmine Iced Tea--has a nice flavor without being overly sweet. Our server Khang answered all our questions and even showed me the brand of linen-like napkins they use (per my request). The servings are plentiful. Taiwanese Beef Noodle Soup--come hungry. Sesame noodles are bouncy with a nice hint of spice from the chili oil. Would definitely return. read more
Crappiest parking ever! I'm not sure if I would ever come back to this plaza again! Prone to accident! Cars just making an extra parking spot so they can go down and pick up food but parking is limited! You also have to pay for parking! ~$8.55 + $1.55 (service fee) for parking 3 hours! Seated immediately. Service was nice. I think the owner is there for the night. Small area mainly bar area so you'll always sit next to a stranger so they can maximize amount of people they can take in. Menu is on a QR code to be scanned. Recommend beef roll and popcorn chicken. Definitely do not recommend sesame noodles or pork over rice. Pork over rice is basic. Pork not extremely mind blowing. Sesame noodles was meant to be dry but definitely too dry. 2nd visit here. My husband wanted to come again for lunch. We got the beef noodle soup, pickled cucumbers, chili wontons, popcorn chicken, and the beef roll.All the food is delicious! The place is small and intimate with usually a wait time. The staff is friendly. My only critique is it has been difficult to be honored with where we are at on the waitlist. I came back again for the sesame noodles my usual and it is still really good. Also decided to try the mango jasmine tea which had a balanced jasmine flavor. They recently have elevated the aesthetics as well with their tableware (bowls, napkins). I always get extra chili crisp oil for my sesame noodles which makes the dish more elevated. The beef noodle soup is really good. Service is always on point, especially when it's Nina. Also, the drinks are tasty. Try the chili wontons as an app, you won't regret it. Parking is tough during busy hours, but you can find street parking as a last resort. read more

Hence, the reviews that call out servers by name are unreliable. Came here when visiting SD. The food was mid at best, and got baited by the falsely high rating. Portion size for the beef noodle soup was pretty large, but the soup was lacking in flavor. At $20.50, it's up there among the pricier places for Taiwanese beef noodles, and you can get much much better in the 626 (or maybe even elsewhere in SD). Went back to LA for noodle soup the day after because I got depression from these noodles. read more

Solid Taiwanese food - the portion sizes are HUGE. We took home a ton of leftovers, but not for lack of trying! Only item not pictured was the pork over noodles, which really hit the comfort food spot. Plenty of meat/toppings on the each of the noodle entrees - everything is as filling and delicious. Came here to have brunch with my parents. We came near opening and were confused whether they were open with a table and chair on top of it set out front of the door. They were indeed open when we asked, and instead of moving the furniture out of the way, we had to walk around it. Normally not a problem but I had my dad with us who has a walker which made it difficult to get through. The guy at the bar didn't bother to move and help out. Not a good impression. Service was okay. I asked if anything was spicy he said no. And so my mom ordered the beef soup which was spicy. I ended up switching with her. I give service 2 stars. A bunch of young guys that don't communicate really well. I will give them benefit of doubt because the food was actually really good even the spicy beef soup. 3 stars overall experience. Convoy St has almost endless options of delicious food, bur you need to add Formoosa to your list. Their Taiwanese Beef Noodle Soup is rich, savory, a hint of sweet, and exactly what the stomach and soul needs.. especially in winter. A limited menu tells me they are confident in their items that they can stand alone, and boy are they right! The parking lot can be a nightmare but the parking gods were nice to us and found parking at the front. Friend and I shared Chili Wontons, Taiwanese Beef roll, and the Taiwanese Beef noodle soup. For drink, I got the peach oolong milk tea. Perfect amount of sweetness for me. Some milk teas can be too sweet for my liking. I asked if it could be adjusted but it sounds like it is pre-mixed. I gambled for it anyway and I am glad I did. It was refreshing and well balanced. For appetizer, I got the sesame wonton. It was rich from the sesame but there was some vinegar I think in the sesame that helped balance it. For entree, got the new menu item, Taiwan Mazesoba. The dish was good but I felt like it was missing something. Veggies like bok choy and maybe chili crisp for some heat? The seasoning was also fairly similar to the pork over noodles dish which is what my friend had. The noticeable difference was that my dish had sesame and was slightly more rich. I think I preferred the pork over noodles dish though because of the texture of the springy noodles. I will have to come back again to try the other dishes. read more

We ordered the beef noodle soup - the portion size was pretty big - enough for me and my husband. The broth was very tasty and authentic - not easy to find good Taiwanese food! After a 24 hr fast, I am ready for a hot, savoury soup. Wanting to try a restaurant I've never been to, I invited my friend here. Once seated at the bar area, we saw a counter staff/waiter blowtorching the top of a large bowl of noodles. All three of us ordered it, one without the veggies. As an appetizer, we nibbled on the cucumber salad. Not the best cucumber salad and maybe it's just Formoosa's style but I found it too salty. Four pieces and I'm done with it. My friend's mom-in-law also ordered Popcorn Chicken because she saw someone had ordered it too. I liked it. Tender chicken, seasoned well with a contrasting dip. The Beef Noodle Soup with wavy noodles was tough to finish even for someone as hungry as I am. It's funny coz the noodles resemble garters from old underwear. The thought doesn't make it unappetizing though because I took home the rest to enjoy later. Service was fast, place was fast casual with a few tables but the best seats are in the bar area for sure because you get to see some last second prep action like "courtside seating". The place definitely filled us up. We were glad, we didn't order any dumplings or else, more would've been left over. read more

Is this place kids friendly?
No. Only eight table top seats, two tables that seat 2, and one table that seats 4. All the rest of the chairs are seats at the bar.
Are the sesame balls vegan? Any vegan options?
based on my experience, sesame balls are made out of red bean or yellow bean paste covered in sticky rice dough coated with sesame and deep fried. better to look at the inderigent lists if they are vegan pr not as there are different vegan…
Came here 1 day at 9:10 and another at 9:40 when Yelp says they close at 10:30 but both times I was told by the worker they were closed?
How do I make a dinner reservation? I've called multiple times and no one has picked up.
We've been and it was only walk up. Some say you can make reservations but I see no evidence of that beyond calling the restaurant.

Does Formoosa sell boba? I was here this afternoon, but the staff told me they did not sell boba. That's strange.
