This place is so random haha. It is a little hard to find. The entrance is on 6th street between S King St and S Weller St. You need to look up above the doors to see the red and white sign that says Fort St George. Enter through the doors ans you will see the AA Travel office on the left. Go past that, up the stairs, and the restaurant will be on the left. Whew! Once you are inside it gets even more interesting. There is a nice Bar with a ton of drinks. They only had Stella on tap for beer though. The rest of the restaurant looks like an average China Town small unassuming place. Menu - I'd recommend the chicken Katsu, beef curry, with rice and scrambled egg if you are hungry. Stopped by for their late night happy hour and new "extended hours". Now open until midnight. The bartender acted as if he was annoyed by our presence. Asked for a happy hour menu twice, which he would not produce, even though it's posted on the front window. All he would say is "yeah, it's happy hour". Pros: open until midnight. Interesting location on 2nd floor and one of the few true bars in Chinatown Cons: where to begin? Food was lackluster. Beef curry had no beef in it. Food is overpriced for what it is. We weren't sure they'd be open but they were and we had a kiddo with us so they seated us to the right in a section that was pretty isolated from the busy side. We ordered fried chicken curry and a teriyaki bento box. I loved the crispness and flavor of the chicken and the rich traditional Japanese curry flavor! The serving was also pretty big! When I was still a student at UW, many of my friends loved to hang out at Fort St. George, which was quite confusing to me cuz I didn't feel their food was that good. But I guess it could be a great place to hang out if the reason is based on nice-looking waitress and waiters. I'm not a big fan of their curry rice, and the only item on the menu I do enjoy is ham & egg sandwich which reminds me of the sandwich I used to have back in Taiwan and Japan. [Review on customer service, not on food] They were full when we arrived, and the waitress told us "sorry, we're full" like she expects us to leave and never come back. Instead of telling us how long it might take to wait, she decided to make us feel unwelcome. DORIA!!!!! What a crazy discovery! I went here for lunch last week and it wasn't bad. The food tasted like Americanized Asian food. The service was quick - after we ordered, the food came fast. I ordered the doria with mushroom and bacon and it came with miso soup. The first thing that surprised me about this place was that they served my miso soup in a tiny little mug. How cute! But weird at the same time. For some reason, I thought to myself that my miso would taste different if it was served in a different container, but it still tasted like regular miso. Then - my doria came. It smelled like cheese! I love cheese. Like, the kind of cheese you smell off a pizza. Actually, it did taste like a pizza, other than the fact that there was rice on the bottom instead of dough. Very interesting! I have to say their foods aren't the healthiest Overall, i find their food to be bit too buttery and sweet, but I guess that is what I am looking for when i choose to revisit fort st george. They are open till very late, so its a good place to go for late night snack with friends if you are craving some asian foods. However, I enjoy their lunch special the most because it gives you two choices of sides at very affordable price~$8. (it comes with rice,baked spaghetti, and side of miso or salad.) The server seems miserable working there though. When we were sitter at the table, I noticed the tables were sticky, so I asked the server to wipe down a table for us. Fort St. George is located right near Gossip bubble tea. It's on second floor in a plaza-esque building. Came here with a friend on a wednesday night around 6. It wasn't too busy at first but it got busier as the night went. Considering that I had not eaten anything all day, anything I would have eaten at this point would have been delicious. We tried the potato croquette, shrimp and mushroom doria, and pork katsu curry spaghetti. Potato croquette came with a side salad made up of iceberg lettuce, corn, onion and some italian dressing. The croquette was creamy, buttery and crunchy on the outside, soft on the inside. Shrimp and mushroom doria. I didn't know what to expect, considering that I have never tried a doria, but it was good! It was like a creamy rice risotto/gratin with shrimp, mushroom and other veggies. The pork katsu curry spaghetti was great. It came with a side salad and the portion was huge. The spaghetti was al dente which make the pasta pleasurably chewy. The sauce wasn't too distinct or different than other japanese curry I've tried in the pasta. TL;DR: Good place to get western/japanese food, reasonable price, relax chill, has a good cocktail selection. read more

There's just something about Fort Saint George that makes me intensely happy. Maybe it's the cute decor, the service, or the food (it's definitely the food), but this place has a soft spot in my heart. I've been here a handful of times now, mainly for lunch I think? Or dinner, not super sure, but their menus do change throughout the day. Who cares? The food is still A+++. Service is awesome, the servers were always attentive and kept out waters filled, even when it was busy. Food is AMAAAAAZING. so good that I could cry. I've had the spaghetti meat sauce with garlic mayo, omurice/ketchup fried rice with omelet, and hamburger steak. I also tried a bit of the bacon and mushroom doria. And lemme just say....... I had their famous Japanese style hamburger steak. Basically, a huge chunk of a hamburger patty with your choice of sauce served on top. Red or white. When I was 21, I loved this place, and the hamburger steak. It's more of a cafeteria food venue to me then a restaurant. Now that my palate is a bit more refined, and I enjoy whiskey over beer, shop at PCC/Whole Foods for organic meat - I can't praise the famous Japanese style hamburger steak anymore. I remember also loving their fried chicken. The meat was cheap, fatty ground beef that wasn't drained, and I could smell the fatty oil and beef juice under the red sauce. Remember when you first started cooking ground beef and didn't drain the beef? (I now boil my organic ground beef, drain it, then pan fry it). I'll come here again, but for their curry, or anything else....unless I was throughly intoxicated, apparently before 10PM, since their full dinner menu isn't till close. Note: you can order a la carte, or as a "meal" which includes mediocre miso soup, rice, and their version of cold spaghetti with a mayo based dressing. +1 star for good service and bartenders. read more

Fort St. George is in an interesting building that has a video game shop, a travel agency, and two restaurants. If you go upstairs to Fort St George, you can look into the two stores because there is no roof directly above the stores. This place has been around for ages. My friend who is very familiar with Japanese food and culture says that this is your typical Japanese bar food. The prices are reasonable too, most dishes will not cost you over $12-$15 or so. You have a lot of Japanese magazines and newspapers for your perusal. The beef curry here is simple but really well seasoned. You should add the extras such as potato croquettes, to make the meal taste better. I've gotten the doria (risotto style casserole with meat, seafood, etc.) before but I did not think it was that flavorful. I tasted the grease but not the flavor or salt. Went to this place after shopping in Chinatown in Seattle based on Yelp reviews and I was really wanting to try something exotic. Fort St. George definitely has exotic, or to the less adventurous, you could probably call it weird. I guess the best word that describes it is fusion, lots of East meets West stuff on the menu, maybe all of it, but I don't know enough about Japanese food to tell you. The ambiance is pretty divey, it shares paces upstairs with another restaurant that opens in the evening. Getting our order took some patience because none of the staff spoke very good English, but we got it figured out. My daughter had the Japanese fried chicken and I had something called a Doria, which is a risotto type dish with cheese, some kind of tasty white sauce and frickin bacon. Our food arrived fairly quickly and it was cool to have something so different and yet taste so good. The Japanese fried chicken is small pieces to be eaten with chopsticks I am guessing. My Doria was a just very cheesy, comforting pasta-y dish that I am glad wasn't too big or I would still be digesting it. I saw someone at another table eating one of the huge hamburger steaks and I was a little jealous I hadn't ordered it, but there is always next time! read more

I love the atmosphere of this restaurant. Food is sooo delicious and comforting! Employees are really friendly and kind! There's a bar in the restaurant too and I love how their menus have pictures of the food and it makes me soooo indecisive/its hard to choose because everything looks so delicious!! Theres another restaurant connected to it and both places are so bomb!!! I can't wait to come back and try many more dishes! Loved the Japanese Western food! The Doria was super flavorful. Curry was flavorful and you get to choose the protein to go with your curry (or not, up to you). I also tried the dinner set with the katsu pork cutlets. It was okay - I wished I tried the spaghetti with meat sauce and garlic mayo instead. It was served with rice and miso soup (in a cute little cup). They stop serving food after 10. Drink wise, they have a lot of type of liquors but short on the cocktail list, which is understandable. I highly recommend the Green Peace for people who like sweet drink. It tastes like the little yogurt drink I usually buy at Asian grocery stores. And the color is pretty! read more

My cousin that brought me here said he had been coming here for over 10 years and the food has never disappoint. While I'm sure the food looks typical and basic, it will amaze you. I seriously could not decide between the pastas, curry, doria but I decided to go for the special. If you know me, I'm not that adventurous to go for the special but damn it was the best decision that has me craving more. Special of the day on a random October night - Fried chicken mixed in pesto, sautéed salmon, steamed veggies & creamy white sauce pasta. It even came with an additional side of rice. I am salivating thing about this dish right now. The fried chicken was boneless, chewy, juicy, not-too-salty then topped with pesto. Mmmmm! The salmon was fresh and not over cooked at all. I'm still wondering how this random combination of food works but it did. Maybe I should recreate this dish and see if it's just as good. Cocktails are alcohol heavy and delicious. Service is friendly and patient enough for the indecisive like me. Definitely a comfort food kinda spot that I would love to visit again. Makes me even wish I had this place around when I was in college. There a full bar, TV showing the seahawk games (go niners!) & dim lighting. Food quality is ok. Ordered the ramen, curry, and donburi. Ramen was very bland and with the minimal spices and seasoning available there wasn't much to salvage. Curry was nothing spectacular. Reminded me of box curry but with the flames going on in the kitchen I hope it wasn't. The saving grace was likely the donburi. Came out just right. Hot and flavorful but not too powerful which I feel like a lot of places go overboard especially when it comes to the broth used in the donburi. I've been to this restaurant more than few times in the past. I crave for the kind of food they serve here such as curry rice and hamburger which I had as a kid growing up in Japan. If you ever visited Japan, they serve food you find at typical family restaurants except the ambience is more for adults who drink. Their food is really good and I do look forward to eat here every time I visit International District. This place is also friendly for a group dining because they would happily split checks per what each person had, and not try to save every penny from minimizing transaction cost per swipe. Honestly, this saves a lot of hassle from collecting cash and changes between friends and deal with someone who doesn't have any cash on them. I do have to deduct one star only because I can't call this place to have the best in kind of food and the interior doesn't exactly look clean. My hubby and I decided to go for spaghettis, which is kind of a fusion of japanese and italian. The noodles are cooked al dente and you can get with cod roe or just old good fashion butter flavor but with enoki mushrooms. Overall, the meal was yummy. The place is small and not too fancy but the food is good and cozy. I had the lunch special once and the hamburger steak was good but the battered fish was a bit greasy. The dorias, which are casserole creamy rice topped with cheese that is golden brown broiled is also very delicious. We had the mushroom and broccoli as well as the bacon and mushroom, both were very very good. The kimchi fried rice is not too sour like in other places and it is delicious. Decided to pick up some green tea tiramisu for a good friends birthday. Came across a review on their cake and I decided to give it a shot. My first all that I placed, I asked if they sold a whole cake of the GT tiramisu but they said no. That's when I decided to go for 5 slices instead. The GT tiramisu was ok, I'm sure there are better ones out there. The cake itself was light and fluffy but lacks the green tea flavor along with the "tiramisu" effect. What was a huge disappointment was the presentation/packaging. Maybe I should've asked for them to be placed in one container? Maybe they should've known? There are so many factors to it but because I didn't ask, shame on me. There's that saying. "Closed mouths don't get fed." Probably would be back for the food (although it has been quite some time since my last visit) but if I were to be back, I'm passing up on the GT tiramisu. read more

Recommend for chill, easy going days. Good spot to catch up with friends and grab some drinks or easy meals (food that is also good post-drinking!) They have a bar area with a few tvs that make the space intimate and personal. I recommend the spaghetti, tempura shrimp and tempura veggies. If you're up for it try some soju! Service is always pretty quick. The space and building is older and it can get stuffy and crowded on busy days. I took off some stars because I got food poisoning there from the steak & rice ONCE out of a thousand times around Sept 2019, but I don't think it would stop me from going back -- LOL Just being honest! I'm wondering now how many times I walked into this building to shop downstairs at the Pink Gorilla and unknowingly missed out on the opportunity to have some great food at Fort St. George. Those missed opportunities end tonight. I originally had this place bookmarked to try some omelet rice, but I decided to order some Japanese Beef Curry with pork cutlet instead. My order was ready on time and the people who greeted me were so pleasant, I was sorry not to be eating in. The cutlet was moist, the rice perfect, and the curry itself just a little spicy, but the right kind that warms you up and compliments the curry instead of overpowering it. This was comfort food at its best. The only reason I gave four stars instead of five was I felt the portion was a little small. Some of that may be psychological; the rice and cutlet didn't quite fill the to-go container and there was some empty space around the border. With a different container it might look like more. I thoroughly enjoyed this meal and look forward to many more together. I'm already planning a return next week. Arigato! read more

The food is good and the atmosphere is so chill and casual. I mean, they have Dr. Dre, Snoop Dog, and Nate Dogg playing from time-to-time as you down some sake late night. Now on to the important stuff. Japanese and American fusion may seem like an odd couple, but this place does a great job combining the two for a very fair price. This Japanese cafe styled restaurant has been here for year and is certainly a great place to get decent food at a decent price and be perfectly happy. My recommendations would certainly be the Chicken or Pork Oroshi, or the Kimchee Tarako Spaghetti or the Japanese Hamburger. Many people seem to really enjoy the omelet and rice and it looks great, but is just not me. The cream soda floats are delicious and certainly worth getting as a dessert or just with your meal. It was quite good. I had the Fort St. George style hamburger steak with tomato sauce entree, and a melon soda. It was yummy, and enjoyed eating it, but the taste was nothing special to me. Maybe this dish didn't click too well with me. Still a very good meal though! I've enjoyed some of their other dishes better as the flavors were both nostalgic and tasty. The melon cream soda was very refreshing and is made with ice cream and melon soda! I also like their oolong tea. Came here on a Sunday evening and it wasn't too busy. The service was good. The waitress was very polite and we had cold water the entire time were were there. There was a little confusion for us as we didn't know that they had merged with Maekawa (we were originally looking for Maekawa, but I've enjoyed meals at Fort St. George before). Was looking for some of my favorite dishes but they seem to have been dropped in the merge. They should match both sides to have the same feel. read more
