We were there on 2/5/24. This was the most dirtiest places I have ever been to. The bathrooms are gross and dirty. The waiting area is next to the buffet and please we're laying all over the desert bar and had handbags on the bar. Some were even taking cookies with their hands. Management saw it and did NOTHING to stop or prevent it. The counters were dirty and people were using their hands in the ice cream bar. Most of the food was bland, tasteless. Some was edible. The roasted pork was dry as the Sahara. The salmon was absolutely smothered in some brown sauce. Even the fresh ocean fish was dry. It's a large buffet though, so you're bound to find something you like. The sushi bar was limited and looked old so I skipped that. Ice cream looked like solid ice blocks of the cheapest ice cream available. The lady filling the food bins was carelessly letting her dirty hand towel dip into the food. The floor has tons of food droppings everywhere. The old dragon lady receiving payment at the register looked and acted like she wakes up in the morning to suck lemons and hates her life, her job, and humanity. I wasn't impressed! If you're a bulk eater and just have to eat bushels and bushels of bland, dirty food, then this is the place for you. If you actually care about taste and what you put into your body, then steer clear of this place. I ended up with a bad experience and indigestion. Went down to seaside heights for the day with the kids and we wanted to visit a buffet, I have teenagers that eat a lot! Let me tell you this place was awesome! For a table of 6 on a Sunday the wait was no longer than 10 mins and it was super busy when we got there! The price per person was affordable! And the quality of food was amazing! For the prices charged, the food is a disappointment. Some items are left unreplenished for long periods of time. Other items that were supposed to be hot were merely tepid. The food is here is good and there is a lot of variety. There are many different stations to choose from depending on the type of meal you want to have. There is Seafood, Mongolian, Chinese, and even American. The desert station is not so good, but they also have an incredible fruit section that makes up for it, or ice cream bar to choose from. Prices run around $10 for lunch and $13 for dinner. You definitely get your money's worth in terms of the food. However, the one big problem that I had was the overall cleanliness of the restaurant. I understand that this is a buffet, and it can get very busy, however the bathrooms are really bad and dirty. The tables and seats are not very clean at all. It cannot be hard to employ a specific cleaning person to take care of sanitizing the tables regularly. The main room where the food is kept is clean, however the bathrooms and seating areas are horrible. First time visit and this place sucks. Came for the "sushi bar" ... They had 5 plates of "sushi options". The rice was hard and sushi was not fresh. The avocadoon the sushi was even browning. It was around 6:30 when we came in and no fresh sushi was made while we were there... In fact they were cleaning up upon arrival. They say they are open till 9:30 so why was there no fresh sushi still being made. The other food we got was pretty much room temp and some of our meat was cold. The doughnuts were not hot and fresh and tasted stale. Staff was nice and the place seemed clean. Overall I would not recommend this place or even go back. I'm scared i'm going to get food poisoning. Also not good to hear from a customer at another table say "this place just keeps getting worse" and told her daughter not to eat anymore of the seafood. Yuck! read more

Long post- So last weekend we went to Fortune Buffet in Toms River and our bill was $112 with tip. I went to use a Visa Gift Card which had $200 on it. I've never used it and even double checked to make sure the money was on it. There was $200 when we left. Went to pay and they said sorry only 5 cents on the card I said that's impossible I know their is more than enough They argued a little and I said forget it I'll use my debit card. I paid and left. Well I checked the account b/c I just remembered and it says their is $1.95 on the card. So I freak out and go online and look and it shows all the transactions. Their was the 5 cents from fortune buffet and that same night their were 2 charges for $99 to PayPal for somewhere in California. There was a 3rd charge but didn't go through because there wasn't enough funds. I talked to visa and they are handling it now. I have to wait 30-60 days. So I call Fortune Buffet hoping to talk to owner and they say owner won't be around but speak to "manager" I explain very nicely and just say listen I believe one of your employees may be stealing from customers I just want you to be aware of this issue I'm not looking for anything but this isn't something you want to continue to happen. She then basically starts saying that how do I know it was someone there and maybe it was someone in my house (it's been in my wallet since that night no one even knew where it was) and then she says maybe it's who bought it for you. The money was there. It shows when it was purchased on the website (12/24) and when it was used 2/12/2023 and then that same day there were charges for for PayPal in San Jose,CA. She said people say that I lost a diamond ring there your employee stole it and now you say this. It wasn't my employees I don't have time for this and hangs up. I called to warn her and their business so this wouldn't happen again and this is what she says and does. I will never go again. Look, it's a Chinese food buffet. It's not a 5-star gastropub. That being said... For buffet food, its not bad. I've been here a couple times (with my dad, who really enjoys Chinese buffets), and even though its crowded around dinnertime, the staff always seems to be able to keep the food decently stocked. Good selection of food, even if all of it isn't the best quality - again, it's a buffet... you don't come here with a discriminating palate. Lot of fried dishes, but lets face it, its hard to screw up fried food. Prices are acceptable. If you're looking for a good amount of food for a decent price and don't mind average quality food, this place is your nirvana. Seriously though... don't get sushi here. It gets real busy, as it's a local favorite, & sometimes the wait to be seated can be long, but, they seem to move people along. The restaurant is a decent size, & they even have an extra room for parties/groups. It's clean & brightly lit, with some usual Chinese decor, bamboo, a fish tank, & of course, The Buddha. The food is always fresh, as it doesn't stay long in the trays. They have the Chinese classics; General Tso's, Sweet & Sour Chicken, Pork-fried Rice, etc. But, they also have BBQ chicken, Vegetables, & last night, they even had Kielbasa! They also have fresh sushi, & a ton of different deserts, plus ice creams. The prices are moderate, I guess you could say. For example, a 2-person buffet is $30 + tip. But, if you leave hungry, complaining you didn't get your money's worth, it's your own fault. They also have take-away, but I'm not sure how it works, pay by the container, or the pound, I don't know. You'd have to ask at the counter or call. The service is friendly enough, but I guess you could feel rushed if it's busy. I say ignore it & enjoy your meal. If you're looking for tasty Chinese buffet in Toms River, I definitely recommend the Fortune Garden. Just remember, you may have to wait. I see reviews that say "not clean, staff lousy" etc. Look, this is not a fine dining experience, it costs 8.00 for lunch and has the most extensive and changing buffet you can ask for. Food is always very good (I travel a lot and have been to plenty of these types of places and this one is at the top of the game). The place is always crowded, that tells you all you need to know. Go to the bathroom at home , very few restaurants have nice bathrooms, how can you when there are patrons that are slobs. It costs more to eat at Mcdonalds. When my family finished eating at the buffet, I told them to go to car while I settled the bill. I was with my husband, 2 elderly grandparents , and 2 children (both under 5). I went to the bathroom to wash my hands and got a call from my husband. He said as soon as they got to our car several waitresses from Fortune Buffet had surrounded the car. They were yelling "you didn't pay!" "We're calling the cops!" He tried telling them I was still inside but they kept yelling over him. I walked to the counter and settled our check and went outside to show the "mob" but they wouldn't even acknowledge me or the receipt. After well over a year due to COVID, me and my friends were finally able to go out to an all you can eat buffet. Wow did I miss it. I love how they work it now because of COVID. You grab your plate, stand by a station, and the employees pile your plate as much as you want with hot and fresh Chinese food. Although I miss the alternative of doing it myself, I can get used to this new system. Anyways, the food was irresistible, the service was very nice, and me and my buddies had a good time. As much as I loved the food and had fun, I was very uncomfortable due to their careless COVID restrictions. It was obvious that they did not have any capacity limits because the place was as packed as it was before the pandemic. There were no tables spread apart, about 3 feet away, similar to before the pandemic. There was no sanitation on tables after customers left and there were customers getting up to get food without masks. The employees did not stop them or tell them to put masks on. The buffet was way out of control and it made me feel discomfited. When I first heard of the buffet re-opening since the beginning of the pandemic, I imagined 25% capacity and limited customers getting food at a time. We really didn't enjoy our dinner at the Fortune Buffet. We went in with high hopes as the buffet holds a 4.2/5 star rating from over 1,000 reviews on Google, but we were extremely underwhelmed. None of the food was hot or tasted fresh. The sushi and dessert selections were sub-par. I love fortune buffet! For the price, you can't have high expectations; however I feel like this is place beats the Chinese food for most take out and delivery restaurants. The lunch prices are ridiculously cheap, so of course there is going to be a wait and crowd-- but I have never waited for longer then 10-15 max. I notice someone mentioned in a previous comment that the California rolls use imitation crab, but how is a business suppose to use real crab and charge such a low per person rate? Most sushi places use imitation crab, it's not that big of a deal, at least they have sushi as an option! The wait staff is always nice and quick. They might not be the friendliest, but they're not selling you on their menu, they're bussing your table and bringing beverages. Only came here for 1 thing. Snow crab. They restock them and they are gone in 3 seconds, can't get near them people take the whole thing . Other then that if you want chinese buffet in Brick there is the Flaming grill which is similar but much bigger and much fresher, much more of a selection of everything including sushi and they have great crab there its not snow crab though. So this place is ok but i would not travel more then 10 minutes to get to it again as i did. The food i ate was limited to the broiled fish because i couldn't get near the crab so its a waste of a trip. ok it's just a Chinese buffet I get it but old people pee all over this place? for months bathrooms do not get fully cleaned and the vinyl seating is torn in the dining areas, thus soaking up the old people pee. no lie... i love the great food here, which I gave a 4 star for, but going to wash your hands before or after eating here is a disgusting experience. it's literally all over the place in there and stinks worse than an animal barn. the health department needs to come and take an inspection here soon. read more
