We ordered four dishes to share: daily soup (small) 是日例汤, pork rib w/ bitter melon & black bean sauce 豉汁凉瓜排骨, seafood & tofu hot pot 海鲜豆腐煲, and lettuce w/ chili & bean curd sauce 椒丝腐乳生菜. Everything was authentic and delicious. I especially enjoyed the soup and the bitter melon dish because the ingredients in them (the veggie in the soup and the bitter melon) are not so common in Chinese restaurants in the States. Atmosphere was nice & busy but our food still came out in a timely fashion Service: way better than most places- our server was experienced and explained how their dishes are different. For example, she recommended we get the Small Size soup because they are actually very Large, and meant to share (we were a group of 3). This place has been here for 11 years but I hadn't tried it until tonight. Came in late right before close and they let us order fast. We ordered chicken fried rice, hot and sour soup, Hong Kong style noodle and all was good. The rice was done just right, cooked just right, seasoned lightly but how it should be. Soup was also really nice. And the noodles were good too and big portions. Finished the soup and took home more than half of each entree. Service was kind too. During my time in Seattle, I wanted to venture over to the international district for lunch and try out Jade Garden, which had great reviews. The line for Jade Garden was about 60 people deep, so I decided to head to the first restaurant I saw, which was Fortune Garden. We were seated instantly and handed menus the size of full-length novels. The options here were literally endless. We joked that we could come here 300 days in a row and get a different thing every time, but it wasn't a joke at all, the menu was just that big. After some option anxiety, we ordered potstickers, sweet and sour chicken, fried rice, and a fish, roasted pork and tofu hot pot. The food came out within ten minutes, and it was all delicious. We loved it. It was also a great price for the quantity, the serving sizes were much larger than similarly-priced food elsewhere in the city. read more

Best Cantonese food in Chinatown? I think so. I cried when the old Hing Loon finally closed for good. I thought I would never find another Chinese restaurant specializing in seafood that could even come close. Boy, was I wrong. Fortune Garden is now my #1 Chinese seafood spot, and I've been here twice just in the past week. Highlights are pea vine with garlic sauce, steamed whole black bean oysters, and seafood hotpot (fish, eggplant & fried tofu). The oyster omelette is also excellent. Crispy Hong Kong-style chow mein with squid, prawn, and fish (with gravy) makes my mouth water just thinking about it now. Service is quick and accomodating (especially when ordering off-menu). The staff is very happy to discuss the selections, and they are super friendly, which is not always the case elsewhere in this neighborhood. The prices are more than fair for the copious portions, and the dishes are artfully presented. I love their chili sauce because it isn't too spicy. The ownership of these places is always changing as well as the chefs so we tend to rotate to the places with the best quality and price point. Also, I have family that used to deliver to the restaurants so we know which ones are cleaner than others (as a note, none of these kitchens are 5 starts so don't expect anything fancy). People come to places like this for the food, definitely not for the service so don't expect anything out of the ordinary. With all the Chinese restaurants in the area, you can't go wrong with Fortune Garden! I came to Fortune Garden as I was recommended to try their Hotpot to see if this can put them over other restaurants, and although the hotpot was good but not spectacular, they have some really solid food. We ordered the seafood hotpot and the beef chow fun (one of their most popular dishes it seems). It's important to know that their "hotpot" items are really just stonepot items and not your traditional hotpot with soup & noodles. Ours did not come with rice or noodles but you can get rice for $1. Overall the hotpot was good and flavorful, but the chow fun lacked some flavor. Portion sizes are great for the price and we had plenty of leftovers! Service here was great! Employees were friendly & fast. Maybe a little too fast... as they brought out our food really quick, maybe like 5 minutes after ordering. The food wasn't extremely hot either and it makes me wonder if they MAYBE had the food pre-made and just heated it up or something? Whatever, not a huge concern to me! This restaurant is located at the heart of International District, also known as Chinatown by many. Street parking is very limited, so I would recommend parking at the Uwajimaya parking lot and getting a 1 hour free validation with a $10 purchase. During peak hours, the wait for a table may be extensive. The inside is not very large so it feels rather cramped. Also, the staff here are trying to turn tables as fast as possible, so if you are not used to this kind of service, it may feel rushed and rude. In terms of the food, I think it tastes great. The food comes out after 10 minutes of placing the order. They are seasoned just right and the portions are generous. I highly recommend their hot pots. read more

This is my go-to spot for classic Cantonese/Hong Kong style family meal. Seattle has a lot of Asian food options, and certainly a lot of Chinese food options along that. But when you dissect into the various regional cuisines, I think Cantonese and Hong Kong food is under-represented here. Two years after moving to this city, I was pretty excited to stumble upon this unassuming little restaurant that reminds me of the food my family eats at home. My favorite items to order here are the Peking Pork chops and the Honey Walnut Shrimp. They do a great job of making the pork chop crispy and then quickly tossing it in the peking sweet & sour sauce. Same with the Honey Walnut Shrimp. They also have a sizzling beef and green pepper dish that is served in a sizzling plate and it's amazing. The portions are generous and are served piping hot from the kitchen! Sometimes this means that not everything comes out at once, but it's darn delicious when it hits the table. Out with the old and in with the new. New ownership and renovation from the former Ga Ga Loc. Very clean & modern with tasteful design! I like it. The wall weave and ambient wall lights are really neat and set nice mood, I think. The seating slightly favors more of the larger roundtable groups with some tables towards the left and back. Most furniture appears new; one roundtable looks like it's from Ga Ga Loc. Wheelchair access may be a challenge getting to the left half and going up the ramp or getting to the far tables under the weave. It should be ok up front, though. First visit was late night take-out: I got the Salt & Pepper Tofu. Fried just right; maybe a tiny smidge too dark. It also was a bit bland on the seasoning. It was ok. Second visit was lunch: Fish curry balls (not sure if it's normal for these coming out slowly), and beef brisket lo mein. The fish balls were soft and nice with the yellow curry (it was no Indian or Thai yellow curry, but it was good). Had a small rice bowl to help soak that good curry up. The beef lo mein wasn't great. What beef there WAS was rather flavorful, but the fat to beef ratio was way too high. The small miso-style(?) soup that came with the lo mein was good. I took it off the plate and filled half of it with the beef fat. The 4 bok choy that accompanied it could've been more soft. The noodles were ok. They seemed rather doughy at the bottom. I didn't see a small salt thing like the pepper, so I assumed the larger white jar was salt--I think it was salt--it might've been sugar? =P The service is ok. The short-hair lady is more friendly but it can feel subtly overbearing. I'll be back. The menu sounds great and I'm hoping other dishes will bring me more happiness. read more

Went here on a Friday night for dinner to meet up with some friends, no wait at all, place wasn't busy but had customers. I forgot this used to be Ga Ga Loc....Dang that was a long time ago. Staff was super friendly, helpful, even more helpful if someone speaks Cantonese. Place was pretty clean, and bathroom wasn't bad at all. Anyways, for 4 of us we ordered beef chow fun which was delicious, also some other chow mein-ish noodle dish but noodles were crunchy with seafood on top....that was awesome! I like it when the crunchy parts gets a little soggy from the sauce. A sizzling pot with chicken & veg......I thought someone ordered sizzling fajitas as I could hear em' coming from around the corner. That was pretty darn good too. And finally gotta get some green beans which was my favorite! Plenty of leftovers and for 4 entrees and rice was about $44 bucks. This place was a little better than my go-to regulars I frequent. Came here for dinner and ordered a good amount of food. Heard the seafood was good so we focused mainly on that. First off, I'll say what was good here. The fish maw soup was pretty good. The steamed oysters on the half-shell with garlic is fantastic. The snow pea leaves were well cooked and was good in soup. The ying-Yang fried rice was cooked well. We also got the Hong Kong style fish fillets and the stir fried scallops which were good but nothing super special. However, the reason I'm giving this place 3 stars only is because of the main dish we ordered. We ordered the Dungeness crab which was $19 a lb and the crab itself was about 3 lbs. It was cooked Hong long style but was not fresh at all. I can tell fresh crab from frozen and this was surely frozen. The meat stuck to the sides of the shell and was not juicy at all. The crab itself was around $60. Totally not worth it. If I come back, I'm definitely going to stay away from their crab and my guess is the lobster as well. It's a bit of a rip off. read more

Fortune Garden is my personal favorite Chinese restaurant in Chinatown. I've been coming here since it opened back in like 2011. I know Seattle's Chinatown isn't as big as SF or Vancouver's, but this place is my most reliable go-to for Cantonese because it's consistent. I've always noticed that this place usually is packed at around 7ish on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday's. Also, I always see Cantonese-speaking families (grandma, grandpa, mom, dad, kids), so you know the restaurant isn't selling out. It's a small space and most of the people here are Cantonese-speaking, so it can get loud. Some of my favorite things here are beef egg swirl hor fun (not on menu), Singapore vermicelli, peavine, and ginger and onion beef. Even the dishes that cater more to the western palate are good- the sweet and sour pork, lemon chicken, and house special chow mein (crispy) are some recommendable dishes. It's always best to order family style for Chinese. The concept of ordering single entree just isn't normal. I think for 3-4 people, ordering 3-5 dishes sounds about right.. maybe one noodle, one beef, one pork, one tofu, one vegetable... depends, I guess. This is a modest family-owned-and-operated restaurant that does their best. I guess it sucks if something got lost in translation, or if you have to wait longer to get what you want. We ordered Chinese water spinach, fried pork chops, beef short ribs, Singapore noodles and seafood and tofu hotpot and steamed oysters. Half the dishes were authentic but the seafood pot was a bit strange. There was way too much sugar in it and they used raw cabbage as the vegetable. The beef short ribs were also very very chewy. The water spinach was extremely oily but tender. The fried pork chops were really good. They also offer an option where it's coated with fish sauce after it's fried, but we opted for the original bc some members of our party didn't like fish sauce.
