I've been to Foxhole Tavern several times and have never had a bad experience. Every appetizer, main dish and dessert is on point! I've had their oysters, fried venison, quail, macaroni... And many other dishes. They are on the pricier side, but I would say worth every penny. I don't treat myself to really nice dinners very often, but when I do, I expect it to be AMAZING. I thought the food was not very good and very overpriced. I ordered tacos cost me $10 for three small ones. For what I was served that should have been a appetizer. My girlfriend had eaten there and brought the scallops home and they unbeatable and they cost $30. The restaurant is nice I just don't agree with the food or the pricing. read more

LOVE LOVE LOVE this place....ugh used to. Our family (and in-laws ) regularly visit this restaurant on sundays for it's quality and large brunch buffet. this week we scheduled a family birthday brunch and we arrived to find out the brunch was no longer offered. Whoa, the main reason for visiting! ;( as a result we will not continue to visit the Foxhole) food quality has always been excellent ( although when I asked for tabasco, they delivered it in a cocktail dish :/, I guess they have a no bottles on the table policy... good food, but discontinued brunch buffet forces a us to no longer visit. Is this place on the downhill slide? That would be so disappointing! This is the kind of restaurant we need more of in Cedar Park. I have eaten here numerous times, and always been happy with my meal. Tonight, I splurged on the fillet, with the carpet bag add on. This was a $38 steak. Way, way too peppery, and the hollandaise sauce was a smidgen, separated, and the fried oysters were a disappointment. Sad miscalculation by the chef. I was even more disappointed when I described my concerns to both the waiter and the manager, and was given a measly $9 credit. I'm not all about the money, but I am disappointed when I frequent a place whose food is normally good, and am sadly disappointed. The service tonight was also off. Very impressed with the Rock Shrimp and grits on the brunch menu as well as the quality of cocktails and service. It seems that everything on Yelp has at least 4 stars, but this place is truly worth trying if you are in the area. read more

I was in Austin for a wedding and went to the foxhole because it was close to our hotel and had good ratings on Yelp. This is sometimes hit or miss listening to yelp but we were so happy we did. Everything from the food to the service was amazing. My husband got a venison meatloaf and it was delightful. The Fox branding on the coasters reminded us of our husky at home and the waitress gave us a huge stack to bring home. Would regularly visit this restaurant if we lived in Austin. Would recommend it to anyone visiting. read more

Foxhole is probably not my favorite place to have dinner... It's a bit greasy and underwhelming for my tastes. I had the burger and it wasn't that great... My fries were undercooked... Edible but nothing exciting. Don't get me wrong about the food here. They try different things on the menu and the atmosphere is nice. So why give it 4 stars then? Now one desert is their saving grace. Probably my most fav desert to get in all of Austin. Its nice to just come here late nite and order the Peanut Peddler! OMG it's the next best thing to my fav kind of desert ...chocolate peanut butter pie! You have to like Peanut butter of course. If you like a nice hot crispy waffle.. with drizzles of peanut butter mouse...and caramel... Topped with bananas... And tiny chocolate balls... if you like all of those things... then this desert is for you!! It's so yummy.. me loves it so much!! Give it a try!! read more

Tonight was our first time to try the Foxhole. Preston was our waiter, and he was awesome. Very knowledgeable and provided A+ service! We had the grilled oysters for an appetizer. We found them over cooked. The sauce was just OK. Everything else was great. My husband got the lobster bisque and flounder. He liked both dishes -- especially the bisque. I had the grilled caesar salad -- which I loved. The more I ate it, the better it got. I would definitely order this again. Then I had the bacon wrapped quail. It was absolutely delicious. So good!! Dined at Foxhole 4 times. Last two times were disappointing. Once in late May & again in early June, 2016. Poor service each time...same waiter. We just happened upon this locally owned restaurant after waiting FOREVER for breakfast at a neighboring restaurant and finally giving up. The brunch menu is very thorough and has great variety. The live jazz band was wonderful! I had the Farm Skillet with the freshest veggies-zucchini, charred tomatoes, yellow squash, mushrooms with scrambled eggs and fried onions on top. Delicious! Hubby had the wild boar sausage Benedict. He loved it! Side potatoes had lots of fresh green pepper, so they were crispy and fresh, not greasy. Son had short rib mac and cheese from appetizer menu, but it was a full bowl and plenty for him. We had spent 2 hours just trying to get breakfast in North Austin on our way out of town, so we were ALL IN and decided to go for dessert. Between the "And then there was chocolate" and the Peanut Butter mousse covered waffles, we had an epic dessert score! Our waiter Pete was attentive, fun and helpful in ordering. Wow Amazing, fresh inventive dishes! Brunch is always wonderful - the Mimosa flight is fabulous with the prickly pear, cranberry & orange . All fresh juices. Wait staff is great! Super unsure about leaving a negative review, because I really like Foxhole. But our last visit, the night of our 25th wedding anniversary, Foxhole really disappointed us. We felt invisible. The three surrounding tables had service and attention, but we couldn't get a second of anyone's time. Tables seated after us were served beverages, and one table next to us was visited three times. No one had approached us until we had stood up to leave, we were at the table for 20 minutes. Maybe because I worked in restaurants as a teenager, my standards are high for a restaurant of Foxhole's caliber. Then when we were leaving, we told the hostess that the staff was not up to par that night, she offered to call a manager. We declined because our special night had already felt ruined and couldn't see how that could be turned around. We ended up going to Freda's. The food is not as good at Foxhole, but the service was impeccable. We will give Foxhole another try, but not for special night out. read more

I enjoyed my meal here tremendously. I went by myself, and it was very relaxing. The service was top- notch. I had their Parmesan Steak fries- unbelievable! So delicious with butter and rosemary. Also served with a burgundy ketchup and citrus aioli. Every bite was wonderful. I also enjoyed their charred beef tenderloin carpaccio. Beautiful presentation, delicious. They have a nice selection of wine, and my absolute favorite was their dessert. It was very hard to choose, but oh good god was their peanut peddler delicious. I want one now. Mediocre food. It does have a cool ambiance. Giving two stars because of a very horrible server and management experience. About 3 months ago I went in for dinner with 6 of my friends (all female) and our server was very rude throughout the whole diner, they were very busy but we made had an early reservation and were not being complicated. After we were all done eating we ordered another round of drinks and the rudeness from our server was obviously escalating, we could tell she just wanted to turn our table. Then two of our friends left and the manager came over and was also incredibly rude and asked if we could all squeeze to one table so they could ready one for more guests, saying we had taken up a lot of space for a long time and they had a lot of guests waiting to eat. Probably one of the worst costumer service experiences of my life. I recently gave it another shot and it's just not worth it. There are places with better food and nicer staff. read more

We love this place so much we go there almost every Friday. The happy hour plates are great snacks to share. My kids love the mac and cheese and sliders. We all enjoy the raw oysters, and the flat breads are delicious. The atmosphere is elegant. The service is great. If you go a little bit, you will find this place is kind of like "Cheers" where everyone knows your name and makes a point to say "Hi." Great little spot. read more

Worst dining experience in 4-5 years. Rolled in with family on a Sunday night. The place was half empty. It took a full hour to get our food. It also took a huge amount of time to get a beer. Unbelievable. Grant (manager?) had come over to introduce himself early on in our culinary adventure and to complain about the stupidity of Yelp users to our table. When we needed him to, literally, go find our orders, he was gone for the evening. Not to worry because Mindy, in his stead, was there to let us down. Mindy was very apologetic for our order and said this never happened, she was mortified, etc. She said she would make it right and desert was on them. Well, she did not and it wasn't. When the bill came, she had comped $40. Well desert was like $28 so the net of it is they comped $13 dollars on a $149 tab. All told it took us 2 hours. Be advised: from the hostess the waitstaff, this place sucks. Overly concerned about appearances and not enough about getting to food out. I spend $1000+ monthly on dining in this town and I am the easiest customer you will find. For me to return home and take the time to write this just doesn't happen. In summary, they should have named this place the sh*thole. Spend your money at another N Austin establishment. read more

I have been to Foxhole twice in the last two weeks...it is delicous..loved the food, the drinks rocked and the atmosophere is great. We set at the bar and chatted with the bartenders while waiting for our entire party..and the bartenders were great..service was exceptional as well. This will be our new go to place! This place is a culinary explosion! Everything on the menu is just amazing and a level above all other mediocre restaurants in town. You don't have to go all the way downtown to get a great meal and even better service. Preston was our server today and exceeded our expectations. On top of that, our first meal here today during their Sunday brunch was delicious. I am not a huge gourmet burger fan but today decided to try the Frenchie. A burger on a Hawaiian sweet bun with Brie, spinach, shallots, and bacon jam. Oh my! And to top it off...homemade kettle chips with their house seasoning. The kiddos shared the Campfire waffle. Imagine smores on a waffle. Honestly, the food speaks for itself. Everything we had today was super tasty and if you are a foodie, you will appreciate every bite! Oh and the jazz band was awesome too. Great food and great music! I mentioned in my previous review that I would wait a few weeks and go back for my birthday. I goofed that up and 1 week later I returned. It was hypnotic the way the food swirled through my mind all week. So today I tried the Japanese Cowboy, and holy smokes!!!! I think that is the best burger I have eaten in a long time. And by long time I mean forever. Yep, best burger I have ever eaten (and I have had lots of burgers and even have a bacon cheeseburger tattoo). But that is another story. The kettle chips were a bit of a surprise. I expected homemade kettle chips, but what arrived on the plate was so much more. They complimented the burger with their crisp texture. Back to the burger... pillow soft bun, juicy meat, the seaweed slaw (can't remember the exact name) and the blistered peppers were sultry. My wife ordered the B.E.L.T. and was incredibly pleased. I ate about a 1/4 of it for her, because it is a big serving. Plus the slap fries were on point. She asked for those instead of the normal potato offering based off another review we read. Added the jalapeño gravy on the side to dip the taters (slap and kettle). The musicians today were great as well. And our waitress, Shay (sp?) was friendly and didn't overly stop by the table but was always there when we needed. So with that all being said, everything about Foxhole has me hooked. read more

We loved the excellent service and awesome food from Foxhole tonight. Our server, Preston, was timely with every single check in. The calamari we tried was average, but was definitely above the frozen premade product that's finished in a deep fryer. My medium-cooked salmon on Swiss chard was perfect, as was my husband's NY strip. There were no salt/pepper shakers on the table because there was NO need for them. I appreciated that the volume of the room was average; loud enough where conversations were private, yet low enough so that my husband and I weren't raising our voices to be heard. This was our first visit to Foxhole and we will be glad to return. read more

One word: AMAZING! Loved the atmosphere, service was phenomenal, and food was delicious! We ordered the Ahi Tuna Tartare for an app. Not only was it quite a bit larger than the norm, my husband and I were literally fighting over the last bite. Sticking with the tuna, I had the Ahi entree. An incredible piece of fish seasoned to perfection and seared ever so slightly. DELICIOUS! My hubby had the pork chop and loved it too. Stopped here on a whim with the husband. We were looking for a wine bar and he also wanted somewhere with steak. We found Foxhole on Yelp and decided to give a try. First impression was it's a nice romantic setting with dim lighting and candles... until you see the tvs mounted around all the wall like a Sport bar. Hmm. No one in there was watching the tvs. It was couples on dates and small intimate groups dining. It was out of place and distracting. Maybe it serves a purpose at lunch with people on lunch break, but I'd recommend them off at night. They had a small but adequate wine list. We both enjoyed our picks. My husband got a filet mignon medium rare which he really liked! So props there. But the big disappointment was that I ordered a gourmet cheese plate and what I got was akin to all the old crap in aunt Susan's pantry and fridge thrown on a cutting board. Of the 7 items, 2 were passable, and 5 were disgusting. I eat a lot of cheese. I know good cheese. This was old cheese, and not in a good way. Tasted like an old refrigerator. The nuts were soft and stale. One of the two salamis was ok, the other tasted awful. I mean come on!! How hard is it to put some quality cheese and other items on a plate. There is no cooking or skill involved. I never get this annoyed, but this really irked me and it's the reason I will never be back. read more

This was a surprise for me as I thought it was just a "sports bar". Good for families and there is a Sunday Brunch too. I had a great meal - late lunch or early dinner. I added salmon to the crab cake salad with a glass of champagne! Delightful. Service was great and nice and quiet because I was between meal times. We have been ANXIOUSLY awaiting the opening of this place.. We love sports bars where attention is paid to having excellent food and great drink selections. I loved everything about the idea of it... A culinary tavern? Yup, you've got my attention! Farm to table? Mmmhmm. Foxhole is pricey, but worth the price. We probably won't be spending $30 for the steak, but I've had more expensive sandwiches that weren't nearly as tasty or good quality as here. Service was great less than a week after opening. Food came out quickly and nicely presented. House cured bacon and tomatoes that tasted like tomatoes. Chips on the side? Homemade and delicious! Can't rate the food or the service because I didn't get past the front door. I almost didn't even walk in because it smelled terrible just outside the entrance. The hostess acted like we were bothering her. There was one couple ahead of us so we waited to be seated as instructed.
