DO IT. Today we got the vegan bagels (all flavors) and they were so tasty! The donut consistency is thicker, like an old fashioned but a little bit chewier like a bagel. Whatever they're doing, it's magical. The flavors of the berry blast one were our personal favorite, but that's not saying the others weren't equally as delicious. Only took a couple minutes to get mine toasted. Quick and easy and I was outside at one of their picnic tables soaking up the sun, with my crunchy on the outside yet oh so soft, warm and chewy on the inside salted bagel and cream cheese. No pretentious crowds, or snobby service here folks - this is the real deal with a great product and friendly staff. It really kills me to do this but it's just not the Frankie's as it once was. I frequent this place 2-3 times a week. The bagels are pretty good, the service is beyond amazing. But the prices of the food is robbery. They charged me 16 bucks for bagel chips and a cinnamon roll. That said, the chips weren't evenly distributed and VERY salty. Never thought I'd find myself utterly obsessed with a bagel yet here we are. The salt bagel is the best bagel I've ever had. It's also the first salt bagel I've ever had, so no hard feelings if you take my opinion with a grain of salt. Ha! See what I did there.. I forgot my phone in the car, so my best recollection of pricing: Bagel $1.50 Bagel with plain cream cheese $4 Bagel with flavored cream cheese $4.50 Tub of plain cream cheese $7 Tub of flavored cream cheese $9 We got there at about 11:45 or so on a Sunday, and there were about 6 salt bagels left of which I proceeded to buy them all. 1 to enjoy right away with mango habanero cream cheese, and the rest to bring home to San Jose. I could've just bought cream cheese from the grocery store, but even Frankie's plain cream cheese is so good! Luckily, they had extra freezer packs on hand and gave me a couple so I could keep the cream cheese safe in a cooler for the drive home. I believe they said the bagels are good for 3 days. I did have my last one 4 days later and it was really hard. I still managed to eat it after toasting it. I did notice there was a lot of cinnamon raisin left, so that seems to be the least popular assuming they make equal quantities of all the bagels. Of the 3 cream cheese flavors I tried, I would say plain and garlic and chive are my favorites, depending what mood I'm in. The mango habanero tasted more on the sweet than spicy side to me. Still tasty, but I think I'd just have it now and then, rather than wanting a tub at home. ***** My Star Ratings: 1 Star - Terrible. Just thinking about it makes me angry. 2 Stars - Meh. Unlikely for me to return. 3 Stars - OK. Open to coming back, but wouldn't go out of my way to. 4 Stars - Yummy! Will definitely return if I haven't already. 5 Stars - AMAZING!!! Really disappointing when a business advertises special hours during fair time, and then don't follow through with them - AND tell people it's because they're not making enough to be open extra hours! My sister decided to take me here, being her brother I was like "ughh ok let's try this place out" in my head... Next thing you know Im eating this cheddar jalapeño bagel like a rabid dog foaming out the mouth! Holy crap, best bagel I ever had and it's the smallest bagel place in Humboldt county without a doubt. This place makes bagels that aren't obnoxiously dense, they have the right amount of soft/dense ratio, also the perfect amount of crisp if you want them toasted. Don't get me started on their bagel chips either, I personally call it a "healthy man's crack" although that can certainly be taken two different ways. My mom ordered 4 bags and we ran through them in 4 days, now we're going through withdrawals! There's not much I can say other than absolutely awful and for $41 I felt I got robbed. Bacon pretzel dog had a piece of bacon in it. The pretzel dog had so much poppyseed all that I had to take most of it off. The only thing they had that was decent was the turkey pesto club. read more

Please don't kick me out of Humboldt for saying this, but I'm not a huge Los Bagels fan. So when Frankie's came along and broke up Los Bagels' monopoly, I was thrilled. Frankie's is tucked away in an obscure corner of Redwood Acres and was a tad hard to find at first. It's a walk-up, hole-in-the-wall, with some of the best bagels I've had. There's the run of the mill flavors (everything, salt, plain, etc.) to inventive (beet, rainbow sprinkle) with a similar variety of cream cheese flavors (plain, garlic chive, mango habanero, etc.). Also bagel dogs and bialys! My Jewish father-in-law with *very* strong bagel opinions was a fan of Frankie's, so there you go. read more

The bagel was so good I had to get a half dozen to go. This is a hidden gem. The owners have done a great job with the inside. Plenty of seating. Hidden away in an incubator slot out at Redwood Acres, a 5 star bagel maker is doing a sell out business. Frankie's makes the best bagels in town, meaning we are not at the mercy of the bagel mafia, Los Bagels. Over the years, LB has gotten more and more expensive and smaller and smaller bagels. I can use my bagels without the attitude some of the help exudes at either location. Anyway, Frankie's bagels are as good as the Village Baker's in Bend, the holy grail for us. Soft, but chewy with great crusts. Great, great, great!!!! But, you got to be there early to get some of these bagels on Saturday or Sunday. Be there or be square. read more

Drove way out of our way to come here on a road trip through the area- weird location but def a startup, so get there a bit early, follow the signs and enjoy the vibe while your options are prepped. As a fellow ex-pat New Yorker, I appreciate what this dude is bringing to the west coast. Def way better and small batch quality than other options in the area- the salt bagel w butter was legit. Delicious old-school bagels, delicious donuts, period. Both are, to the best of my knowledge, tied for the best in Humboldt (bagels with the cool guy who sells only at farmer's markets, small-batch donuts with Mcintosh Farm Country Store in Valley West). The "only open on weekend mornings" thing makes it sound exclusive, but the fact that you order what you want from the website the afternoon/evening before means that there's no risk of showing up to find them sold out, or driving to Eureka only to find nothing you want, and you don't have to show up first thing and stand in line to get the best choices. You can also pre-pay online, which makes it really convenient--place an order, pay for it, then show up any time the next morning and just grab it. Tip: The pickup window is hidden way around the back through a gate near the corner, so the first time you go it's kinda hard to find. read more

Frankie makes the best bagels! He's always coming up with new and exotic flavors of cream cheese too, but my favorite by far is the dill pickle cream cheese. There are only a few days a week you can visit this hidden gem, and I would say the earlier the better, because he closes up shop once he sells out. Tiny and tucked away behind redwood acres, this small shop is standing room only, but there are some tables outside and if the weather is nice, you can enjoy your bagels on the back patio. The cheddar jalapeño bagels are my personal favorite, but Frankie wows many with his gluten free bagel flavors that taste no different than his regular bagels. I'm in from out of town, and the first thing my local friend asked me when I woke up on Thursday morning was, "do you like bagels?!" "Well, this place called Frankie's is a bit of a drive for us, but it's totally worth it, these bagels will blow your mind." Sold. Here's the thing - when we got there, we found out that they were closed! But no sooner did the owner tell us they were closed so that they could fill catering orders, did he invite us in for some fresh baked bagels on the house. He said he had just a couple of extras. Frankie is so creative and detail oriented, it's insane! I went today with a friend to get bagels for myself and others. One friend is lactose intolerant, so his bagel was wrapped in a different color paper to easily distinguish which one was the vegan. I swear, Frankie is one of those people that has more hours in the day than the rest of us; he just does so much! I've had Frankie's bagels, his cream cheeses (try the pickle flavor!), bagel chips, bialys and once, a bagel dog. They were all outrageously divine.
