I am particular about my Mexican restaurants and expectations being that I am of Hispanic descent. They have their own starter appetizers they bring out along with chips and salsa. I love my salsas and this one has great flavor. Absolutely love the queso blanco! Flour tortillas and chips with this appetizer are gone in a matter of a few minutes with my party! My daughter loves the sour cream chicken enchiladas, and the best part is that if you are not an onion lover, these don't have them:-). I've had a salad with salmon added and it's so darn good. Love the presentation and how they play up the zucchini with a thinly sliced twist. Omg! Margaritas on the rocks are the bomb. I had ONE and was feeling a little tipsy if you feel me. My hubbs and I celebrated our anniversary in 2014 here and the bartender serves us up his own concoction of a coronita margarita type drink and they were delicious and so worth the price! I had mentioned I like this blue coronita margarita that Chilis has and he took care of bartender business to make us his version. Frankie's is not cheap on spreading the liquor in their drinks for the price let me tell ya! They don't play. Jesse is very hospitable and we are regulars. So if you've lived in the area as long as I have, you know the building in which Frankie's currently resides has seen it's fair share of Mexican and Tex-Mex restaurants. Literally - it's been one after another like clockwork over the past few decades that is routine as it is sad. But I'm confident that the cycle has ended with Frankie's. There's a reason why this place is always so packed, even early on a Monday night. The atmosphere is great, the food is delicious, and their margaritas pack a solid punch. What's not to like? I'll elaborate on the food: There are two main reasons why Frankie's is such a successful place: 1.) they make good, solid Tex-Mex classics that are more delicious than other restaurants. 2.) they make good, solid unique Tex-Mex dishes that you can't find anywhere else. If you want your standard chicken enchiladas or nachos or queso, you can't go wrong with Frankies. If you want to try something quirky and different like the brisket enchiladas or veggie spinach tamales, you can't go wrong. It's all delicious. Frankly, the veggie tamales are my favorite. In a genre of food that is known for it's grease and lard and excess of cheese and sour cream and flour tortillas, you can actually find a delicious dish with variety, freshness and - dare a say it? - some semblance of a healthy balanced diet. Avocado, mushrooms, spinach, carrots, onions? In a swathe of Frankie's signature chipotle cream sauce, you won't even realize you're eating veggie tamales, they taste so good. It makes me hungry just thinking about it. On top of the quality and variety of the food, the service is consistently good, friendly, and efficient. The prices are moderate, and the atmosphere of the building is absolutely wonderful (the other restaurants in Sachse - which all seem to struggle consistently - could learn a thing or two about this place's ambiance). And did I mention their margarita's pack a wallop? No worries about getting stiffed on the tequila in those babies. Well. What other reasons could I list that would justify the 5 star rating? All I can say is that you can try Frankie's and see for yourself why so many people flock to the restaurant, and why it succeeds where so many of it's predecessors failed. If you're going to go on a night, especially on the weekend, expect a crowd and a wait, though. read more

This used to be my go-to Mexican restaurant that was nearby, but the last 2 to 3 times, the food has been mediocre at best. I had beef fajitas and the meat tasted exactly like the processed frozen fajita meat one would get at Walmart in. 5lb bag. it was all cut to the exact same size, around 3/4" thick, which is too thick for a fajita cut. The meat was also very bland and not too tender. The salsa also used to be very addicting but not so much anymore. My daughter sour cream enchiladas were reportedly not very good. We are going to give this place and rest for a few months and give them another try, hopefully they will make some improvements. My wife and I moved up to Sachse from San Antonio last year, and it has been very difficult to find Mexican food that comes anywhere close to what we could get in San Antonio.....until now. I can honestly say this is the best Mexican food I've had in the Metroplex...and it's not even close. The Brisket Enchiladas were incredible. I wouldn't normally go out on a limb like that...I mean, these things have mashed potatoes in them, so there's no way they are actually good, right? WRONG. The poblano cream sauce and the perfectly juicy and tender brisket were amazing. I find myself craving them constantly. My wife had the Pork Tamales, and those were very good too. $3 margaritas during happy hour....love it, and love them. You can't even get a Bud Light for $3 anymore...this place has some incredible margaritas for a super low price. I don't normally order dessert at restaurants, but for some reason I felt so inclined this day. Maybe it was because everything else had been SOOOO good that I didn't want the meal to end. Tried this place on a busy Saturday night. The line was not out the door but darn near it. Standing room only inside the door waiting for a seat. I guess we were lucky as it appeared that most of those in front of us were larger groups, and there were just two of us. We got seated within 15 minutes of arrival. I really like this place. Chips and salsa were tasty and just right spice for me... pretty hot but not so much that you could not eat it. Drinks were good sized, strong and served quickly. My wife had the cheese enchiladas and pronounced them very good (and she knows cheese enchiladas.) I had the chicken chimichanga and it was also very good. Best I've ever had? No, but not too far from it. Our waiter, missed his name dang-it, was very nice, helpful and on the spot, especially considering how busy he was at the time. All in all, if you are in the area and looking for a cool, tasty, and friendly place to get your Tex-Mex Fix on this is a very very good place to do do. read more

We used to love Frankie's. Over time the food quality has gone down and prices have increased. The best thing about Frankie's is the cheese dip. The food comes out fast but our last order of tacos was dripping of grease. The tacos never should have been plated and served. Wow the place looks great. It was redone since last restaurant that was at that location. Clean. We (wife 2 kids and I) went for a Monday lunch. It is a small place and was quite busy. we pulled in to the parking lot and the Sachse fire department had just gone inside(three trucks). We were greeted very nicely got a table right away. We get our drinks immediately.this was all done by the girl that showed us to the table.Then a few minutes latter She came back to take our appetizer order.We ordered caso and guacamole and still have not see our waitress. The waitress came and took our order (We ordered Brisket Enchiladas, Chicken Fajitas and Chicken nuggets for the kids) She was polite but was actually quite slow. She seems as if she had too many tables. They brought salsa and chips. Salsa was thinner than I like but very very tasty. Next out was the caso and guacamole. We liked them both (Fresh). Next out was lunch wow every thing was good. FRESH would be the key word at this place. I did not think the Brisket dish was going to be good (Wife's choice) wow very good and the fajita well It was sizzling when it came out ( I know it is supposed to do that but it was on the table doing that for a minute or two) chicken was moist and tender. just good all around. During the weekdays they close at 9. I didn't know this but after arriving at 9 I was greeted, allowed to make a quick order, and was never rushed. I felt guilty when I found out that they had just 'closed' but they were more than accommodating and said that there was no rush. Will be coming back again soon! I love this place. I usually get the brisket enchiladas...they are stuffed with super creamy mashed potatoes! The sauce is great that comes on them. I usually find brisket enchiladas dry and bland but not these!! Along with chips and salsa, you get a cute little bean nacho per person. I have been for brunch and was not a huge fan of the plate I had. It had breakfast potatoes but they were mushy and bland. other than the one dish being bland, I've never had anything bad. This IS one place where I have to add salt to the beans. But there are worse problems to have! Better to under salt than over salt. Grabbed fajitas to go. Was ready and accurate when we arrived to pick it up. The man at the register (whom I assumed to either be the manager or owner) was very friendly and said that he hoped to see us back in again sometime soon. The fajita meat was high quality, tender and juicy; no gristle or chewy bits. When my wife called in the order, they recommended the fajitas platter, which was good for 2 people. It was a mix of chicken, steak, sausage, and even shrimp (which thankfully they were able to do a substitution for since my wife is allergic to shellfish). The only issue I had really was that there were only 4 tortillas with the platter. There was no way that was going to be enough. We enjoyed the fajitas, but most of the meat and sides we ate with our fork right out of the box since after each of us stuffed 2 tortillas, we had no other choice. :) On a personal note, the salsa was good, but a bit on the thin side for my own fickle tastes. Would have liked it even more if there was a bit less "juice" to it (if that makes sense). Was perfect otherwise. Overall, we will definitely be coming back since I'm sure the issues we had with a tortilla shortage would have been taken care of the moment our wait staff saw we were out but still had meat. Visited Frankie's n Sachse just day before yesterday. Man, the attentive service staff were amazing. The food was great...they brought out a little teaser mini chalupas (chip with bean and queso and cilantro) just to say it was nice to have us there. A real touch of class in places where you don't often see it. The enchiladas were fantastic and the kids had pancakes and bacon...leave to the kids to eat American style in a Mexican restaurant. The chicken enchiladas and pollo gordo tasted fine, but my girlfriend did not like her rice and beans, and the mashed potatoes tasted like something from a box. We are just moving in to the area and enjoy TexMex so we thought we would pop in and try this place for a late lunch over the weekend. It was an ok experience. I ordered a cup of queso with ground beef added and a small bowl of soup. My spouse ordered the stuffed chicken (which I took a bite of). It was pretty tasty and tender. The queso was one of the best, and I could see coming here just to snack on the margaritas and queso. The soup, however, was disappointing. They brought me a cup (instead of a small bowl, there are 3 sizes, cup, small, and large). But I was totally ok with the cup, because I ended up not liking the tortilla soup. It just seemed too salty and had a funky spice. I would come here again to try other things out. I just really love a good, warm and comforting bowl of soup. read more

We enjoyed it! We are very glad to finally go, after driving by so many times and seeing how busy it was. We were greeted with a smile and treated great. Prices were great. We got the cheese enchiladas with avocado sauce and I think the other plate was the Angela ... it was cheese enchiladas as well with a poblano sauce and sausage. The salsa was spicy. Not too hot but with a wonderful kick, but the sauce on our enchiladas was very mild. The avocado sauce had a weird flavor that was not at all what I was expecting. But with a squeeze of lime and a lot of salsa it was pretty good. I was extremely glad to finally get white cheese enchiladas!! Haven't had those in ages. The sauce on his enchiladas was also mild, and needed salsa to kick it up. He was disappointed that the sausage was not mexican, but it was tasty with the enchiladas. We both were very happy with the rice and beans, both having a lot of flavor rather than being almost tasteless sides that so many TexMex places serve. If the sauces had been spicier we'd give it 5 stars. read more
