Stopped here while visiting family and overall it was a good experience. I ordered the bbq ribs and my guest had the ribeye. The ribs were cooked till soft and came with a side of bbq sauce that was good but not bottle take home worthy. The bread biscuits we had while we waited was a cross between a biscuit and cornbread... different and the thing I remember most coming out of dinner. We sat in a booth aligned with the bar and the seats were pretty worn in/lacking padding. The server was attentive and friendly. Their menu seems entirely too large. read more

Was here on Mother's Day with my dad and my cousin, who lives in the area. We were seated immediately, and received bread and butter almost immediately. Our waiter took our drink and food orders very quickly, and I had the vegetable omelette, while my cousin had French toast and unfortunately, do not remember what my father had. Today was my first time at Franklin Chop House. And it won't be my last. I ordered the Southern Fried Chicken, which was delicious- very tender and juicy- best Green Beans I've had. The service was exceptionally good, very prompt and very friendly. Our food was ready in a matter of minutes. A common theme on these reviews is that people come here thinking that it is "chop house" the upscale steak house, and it's not. This place has more of a Shoney's vibe to it. The decor is outdated and older. It's obvious that their core customer group is an older demographic. But that being said, they might be able to appeal more people if the place was a bit updated. The booths had this weird floral velvety feel to them. We were pretty confused when we went in, since we thought it was the upscale Chop House. The menu is pretty basic. Steak, chicken, mac and cheese, etc. I opted for the steak and mac and cheese and was severely disappointed with both. The steak was super tough and lacked flavor. And the mac and cheese tasted like the tubs of cracker barrel mac and cheese from Kroger. Our service was sub par. Drinks were left unfilled, server was not friendly. And overall it was just a really negative experience. I know they are a family owned business, and I really wish I could write a more positive review, because I love supporting local businesses. But my experience was just so negative that I will not return. read more

Party of 20, please?! Came here mid week recently w hubby and some friends from my Brentwood photography group. It was a party of 20. Normally reservations aren't accepted at the Chop House, but the restaurant manager took ours w advance notice. We had a nice long table to accommodate our large party. Too busy socializing, I breezed quickly through the menu and half heartedly chose the Sirloin Steak Salad ($12.49). The salad was humungous that I couldn't really mix everything without the ingredients falling off onto the table. So instead I enjoyed the medium well grilled tender strips of sirloin that sat beautifully over the mixed greens, sliced mushrooms, tomatoes and cheddar cheese. It went well with blue cheese. Sadly, I only ate probably less than five bites and took the rest to go. Time goes by fast when chatting w fellow photogs. Hubby had the best dish. He ordered the Louisiana Bayou Shrimp with Crawfish entree ($14.99) which included a generous amount of sautéed shrimp and crawfish tails tossed in a flavorful Cajun cream sauce served over rich-tasting red beans and rice. His choice side was the creamy cheese macaroni cause he knew I love mac & cheese. I'd say hubby's dish, the Louisiana Bayou Shrimp with Crawfish, was quite inviting with boastful flavors! Others in our party enjoyed their dishes too (meatloaf, steak, etc). With a large party as ours, we were assigned two servers/wait staff, both of which were impressively on top of their game. They were observant, quick, efficient, and friendly! Our overall experience was good - good enough to recommend! I can hardly wait to come back and try their other offerings. I have been going to Franklin Chop House for as many years as I can remember. My parents live in Franklin, and when I was little and all through high school, we would go to Chop House as a default if we were going out to eat and we couldn't decide where else to go. The reason for that is because they have so much variety. Sometimes with places that have a lot of variety, some things are not as good as others. You will not find this to be the case at Franklin Chop House. To me, everything is delicious. They hardly ever have a wait, and if there is a wait, it's not long at all. Definitely try their Sunday Brunch--it's delicious! Their Eggs Benedict with either the skillet potatoes or cheesy southern grits are amazing. On the regular menu, my recommendations are: Louisiana Bayou Shrimp & Crawfish, Buffalo Chicken Sandwich, or (my personal favorite) Rattlesnake Chicken Pasta. If you're a shrimp lover like me, substitute the chicken in this pasta for shrimp...very small up-charge, and they give you a TON of shrimp. DELICIOUS!! I love this place!! read more

I wish I could give 1/2 stars on yelp sometimes. If so, I'd give this place 3.5 stars. Decent food for a decent price. It was my first time eating here. My husband hasn't eaten here since he graduated from Franklin High School (we're talking over 15 years ago or so). It was as I expected from the other reviews. The place is kind of dated, but has cool photos of Franklin and such on the walls. You can obviously tell this is a locally owned place. Most of the servers looked like local high school kids, but they all were friendly and our server was great. Someone who was the manager or owner came by to see how everything was. Overall it was a good experience and a good option for dinner if you want a decent sit down dinner but don't feel like getting dressed up or paying a lot for dinner. The complementary biscuits and whipped butter were great. I just got a four vege plate. Large servings a plenty to eat for $10. Mac N Cheese could have been better, but the baked apples, steamed broccoli, and caesar salad hit the spot. My husband got the prime rib special and it wasn't bad at all. I figured the steak wouldn't be what I'm used to at nicer steak places, but the prices are much more reasonable. They nailed the sweet tea. We've eaten at this restaurant for many years after attending church. At times, some of the staff have known us by name. Despite this, it's always been just ok food and sometimes ok service. Today, we came after church as we have done once or twice a month over the last year. We were seated before some who arrived before us-I thought that was interesting. We sat at our table, ignored for twenty minutes with our menus on the table showing we were ready to order. Being tired of waiting, we got up and left and no one noticed. Our daughter requested that her birthday meal this year be at the Chop House. We have been going to the Chop House for years because they have great food and (had) the best kids menu in Franklin. The food was excellent. We were a bit surprised that we were charged for kids drinks (they are included in the price of the kids meal). When we pointed this out to our server, she informed me that the manager had just changed the policy with no regards what was on the menu. Today I was in Franklin shopping and stopped at the Chop House on the way out. It wasn't busy, as it was still before noon and on a Saturday. The host greeted me friendly and seated me right away. My waitress was fast and wore a big smile and made me feel great. The tea was good, and the angel biscuits were good in their own way. I'm not a fan, but they are probably exactly right for angel biscuits. Had the Louisiana Shrimp and Crawfish and the sauce was just right and a decent amount of shrimp for a $15 entree. The rice was probably Uncle Ben's but most restaurants do that instead of keeping a rice cooker going. I went to college in Louisiana, so was glad the sauce was right by seasoning. My side was the apples and they were seasoned perfectly. Just before I left, the manager came to the table of three in front of me and asked how it had been and they were fine. She looked at me but did not speak. On the way out, she thanked me but again didn't ask. I felt somewhat second class because they weren't busy and it seemed like she had intentionally not extended me the same courtesy as them. Oh well. Something for everyone! We searched through many restaurants to find one that would please everyone in our party. My son loves steak. My dad prefers low calorie options such as salad or seafood. I prefer cajun. Franklin Chop House had all of these options so I called as I was hoping the food would be good. They don't take reservations but they do call ahead seating. I ordered the Louisiana Bayou Shrimp with Crawfish. It was delicious and cured my craving for cajun food. Everyone else said their favorite foods were very good also. This was the perfect restaurant to feed a group with different tastes. The service was friendly and fast. We will definitely make return visits. read more

I just moved to Franklin and this was one of the first places I have eaten. I love trying new places so I was excited to see what was going on here. First off - the atmosphere is pretty nice. It's almost like a Nicer chain restaurant but it has some nice character to it. The side salad was delicious. I had a low-fat ranch dressing on my salad that was absolutely delicious - and it was homemade and tasted like it wasn't low-fat at all. The salad was fresh and the rolls were wonderful. I had the cedar plank salmon which was absolutely delicious. I'm always scared to get salmon because I'm afraid it isn't going to be enough - but let me tell you - the portion amazed me. The salmon had a delicious sauce that was very similar to maple syrup...absolutely wonderful! The only thing I didn't find wonderful were the southern style green beans. They were sweet and for some reason didn't jive with me. They were still good - but not the best I've ever eaten. I noticed a lot of people doing take-out while we were there - so apparently they do a lot of that. I'm only about 5 minutes down the road from them so I might be doing the same thing once I begin work! A wonderful place to eat overall! read more

Every time we go to the Chop House, we ask ourselves, "Why don't we come here more often?" I've probably eaten at the Chop House forty times over the last ten years, and I can't recall ever having a bad meal there. Ever. My son makes their meatloaf disappear like magic. The cedar-planked salmon is always perfectly cooked. The fried catfish is light, crispy and HUGE. Their sweet potatoes are maybe the best anywhere, but watch out -- tons of butter and sugar. But they are really, really good. The spicy chicken pasta is very good, too. My wife always gets the 4-vegetable plate with their red beans and rice as her "entree". Great for a special family night out -- a must for my father's birthday every year. Maybe a tad pricey, but it's worth it every single time. read more

This is my parents go to place in Franklin. It is locally owned. Food has always been pretty good. The burgers are big though mine lacked seasoning. I ordered with sweet potato fries. I believe they were frozen and not fresh, but they were still good. My mom had the steak tips and said they were a little dry and lacked flavor. Came in tonight and ordered the blackened chicken Alfredo. It was spectacular, and i am incredibly picky about my Alfredo. It was creamy but not heavy and fake, seasoned very well, and absolutely exceeded my expectations. Courtney was my server and she did amazing as well. Her service was phenomenal. This place never ceases to impress me with its consistency and quality. The menu is pretty much that of your typical American restaurant with all the traditional fare you'd expect. However, everything they do, they do extremely well. We've been going here regularly for at least 15 years and I honestly don't think I've ever had a bad meal. Their rattlesnake pasta is the best pasta dish I've ever had. Their burgers may be the best in Franklin. They clearly grind and blend their own meat in house and they will cook they always cook mine the perfect medium rare. Their catfish is unlike any you'll get anywhere. Always a high quality filet with the most perfectly thin panko type crust. Lastly, their ribs are fantastic. I would put the Chop House up against J. Alexander's for any of the same menu items and it's probably 20% cheaper. read more

Like others, I too was under the impression that this was affiliated with the Chop House chain. We thought we were a little pressed for time as we were attending an event at The Franklin Theater (or is it Theatre?) Anyway our original intention was to go to The Cheesecake Factory. I was hoping Kaley Cuoco would be our waitress, but.... My wife works a little south of of 96 and Cool Springs is north of town and it was rush hour, Christmas season, growling stomachs that could not wait so here we are. Walked right, sit right down, baby let your mind roll on - sorry - it had to come out. There was a little concern about the server as he did not seem too into the job, but turns out he was actually good. The one thing he didn't do was mention the "Blackboard Specials". We were sat in the bar area which was fine as there was no one else there for a while and the TV's were muted. After we had almost finished I look over the half wall and see about half of the aforementioned blackboard. I would have made a better choice had I seen it. As it were I got the pot roast and as another reviewer mention it was unlike any pot roast I have had. WAY to salty and to me it looked like shredded BBQ without the smoke and without the flavor and without the low price. The mashed potatoes were good as was the gravy. The glazed carrots were too sweet, but not bad. My wife ordered the beef medallions which were cooked in garlic - a lot of garlic. It completely overpowered the meat flavor plus they were overcooked and a little tough. A baked potato subbed for mashed was a one dollar upcharge. She also got the spinach which was good - not Demos' good, but good. After tip for this underwhelming meal, decent slice of cheesecake and a glass of wine the total was almost $50. Yeah - and did I mention it was our anniversary? When we got to the theater and got our tickets it turns out it did not start until 7:30 - I COULDA HAD CHICKEN MADERIA AFTER ALL! We made Valentines reservations for 7:30 pm. Got to the restaurant expecting it to be crowded. It was maybe 45 to 50% full. That kinda made me think because I had never been there for dinner before. So then we get our waiter Juan, very nice young man and very attentive, actually the highlight of the experience. So we get the menus and with the menu came a special menu for the night. Of course we were excited about Prime rib for Valentines dinner. At 7:30 they were out of Prime Rib. I don't understand restaurants that push prime rib and never have it when you order it. This is the third place in the last month that advertises prime rib and never has it when you order it. The prices were above average for an alright steakhouse. I've often wondered about Franklin Chop House since moving to Franklin a few years ago. Yesterday I went there with my husband and it was a unanimous decision to never go back. After being met by a hostess who seemed as though she had no idea what to do I ordered the steak medallions on mashed potatoes with a side of corn. The steak was dry and tasteless, the potatoes were not hot. The corn tasted as though it was emptied straight from a can and heated in the microwave. I couldn't eat it so I sent it back and placed another order. This time it was another steak which was tasteless (no seasoning at all it seemed) and had gristle throughout, with a side of creamed spinach which tasted only ok but was not hot enough, and an order of fries. Worst $80 meal ever. The waiter was nice so I gave it two stars instead of one. Ordered the sirloin and it was tough (even though cooked medium) and flavorless. My date had the ribeye, asked for it medium got it well done. To be fair they offered to recook it but he declined due to time constraints. Either way, both of our meals were awful.
