I was in Franklin for business and wanted to try some good southern food while I was in town, (I'm from California and have never had the pleasure of authentic southern cuisine), reviews led me here and it did not disappoint! I had the pleasure of being served by Keosha, she is the kindest person that I have ever been served by! I asked her for recommendations and she pointed me toward the spinache dip, rib eye, friend chicken and okra. Oh my goodness, the food was amazing! I came for the food and was met with not just an amazing meal but also with absolutely incredible service! I was so touched by Keosha's attentive and loving service that I even asked the hostess if I could speak to the manager, he simply had to know what an amazing gem of an employee he has working for him! Good for groups, family-oriented, and usually busy, the Chop House is a no-frills what-you-see-is-what-you-get local haunt offering mostly traditional American heavy entrees I find perfect for a chilly day. At best, the kitchen delivers consistently good products. I've found no standouts to draw me in, so I'm only here when a group of friends decide to visit. You can get a mixed side-item-only plate that usually suits me. Daily specials are available. I've found the fish and chips to always be good. Friends enjoy the burgers. Surprising (to me,) I thoroughly enjoyed the open-faced pot roast "sandwich." On a cold, wet night it really hit the spot with a creamed spinach side. Soup offerings change and  aren't listed on the menu, so ask what's available. The lemon chicken with artichoke soup is a creamy delight. A full bar is available, seldom crowded, and you'll usually have to wait for service. It compliments the family restaurant atmosphere rather than being a go-to place. Deserts follow the heavy-comfort direction of the menu. If strawberry cobbler is offered, well...it's not over-sweet and it's pretty darned tasty! read more

Maybe we hit them at a bad time? Saturday evening 6pm. Waited about 20 minutes for a table for 2 even though there were easily a dozen empty 2-4 top tables within view and only 1 group of 5 ahead of us. The hostess was friendly but couldn't seat anyone without the manager's approval and he seemed to not be aware of what was actually going on. They seemed to have plenty of staff working so I don't think that was the problem. We weren't that hungry so we ordered some grilled sandwiches. They brought us some biscuits and butter which was nice but they weren't fully baked and kind of fell apart. Sandwiches weren't prepared very, tasteless, and the bread was barely grilled and soggy. Fries were not very good and not cooked long enough either. The server was great and she kept checking on us often. Very disappointed with the food quality and the fact that everything was undercooked and soggy bread instead of grilled. Maybe the prime rib, steaks, or pot roast would have been better choices. The food and drinks here are okay. They have huge menu and a lot of lunch specials. Sadly, they don't have baby back ribs. The ambiance is good and Victor took good care of us. Came to town for a wedding on Memorial Day weekend and found great reviews for this restaurant on Yelp. My wife had the cedar planked salmon and I had the prime rib. Both were excellent! Brewed tea was very good. Salads had homemade salad dressing and were very flavorful. Service was excellent. This is not a Chop House chain restaurant but a local great Franklin restaurant. First, I just want to say that the people that work in this establishment are very nice and kind. This review, albeit negative, gives me no pleasure because the vibe is cool and old school. I'm sure for some people's pallets this is a five-star place. However, $70 for three people to eat, the food should have some seasoning, some salt, some flavor. Most of the things that were served to us were from a box. Instant mashed potatoes. The Caesar salad dressing tasted old like it was sitting in a plastic jug for a very long time. Not homemade. Not even of good quality. The chicken was bland and overcooked. The Caesar salad with salmon was just flavorless. The salmon had absolutely no seasoning, barely salty. I could go on. If you're looking for someplace to spend $70 plus for three people to eat, there are plenty of other good places to go in Franklin. It's sad because when you get baked apples you would expect them to be treated with care and have an actual brown sugar sauce. Possibly? Those were bland as well. Just sad...the food could have been so much better. If something had been actually homemade or handmade it would have been good. I almost forgot, the calamari was just some cheap bulk frozen low quality squid when it came out it tasted like it had been in the freezer for years. It was dry and plastic like and gross. Thankfully they took that off our bill cuz it was inedible. I realize that ownership has to keep costs down by buying really cheap low quality instant food. Not handmade. But even mashed potatoes? It can't be that expensive. Baked apples? Bake real apples. Not pre-sliced soaked in citric acid for shelf life and then not put any sauce on it. Just a sad experience. Definitely not looking to ever go back there, don't want an apology because the manager was kind of enough to come over and apologize for the low quality of some of the food in person. Victor is super nice and attentive but the food and drinks are absolutely awful. My wife and I eat out often and we're disgusted by the chewy steak and cheapness of the food. My two stars are for the friendliness of our waitress and the speed of our meal arriving. Unfortunately the food taste and quality was not good. We were quickly brought biscuits and they were so hard we couldn't eat them. When I finally was able to break one it was so dry it crumbled in my hand. I ordered the meatloaf ( very dry) and mac and cheese- it was made much earlier and appeared to be put in a microwave to heat up. It was a wonderful day in the neighborhood when we decided to go to Franklin Chop House for an early lunch. After all, they serve traditional American food, so what could go wrong? I ordered a lunch that Mother might have have served- Home-Style Meatloaf, Mashed Potatoes & Gravy and Southern Style Green Beans. My wife ordered a pasta dish. First came our appetizer- a basket of of small, thin buttermilk biscuits. But...Mother always made big, fluffy biscuits. My sides were two- their Mashed Potatoes & Gravy and the Southern Style Green Beans. The mashed potato dish was pleasant, but not spectacular. The green beans were cooked just the way i like them. My Home-Style Meatloaf was a curious dish. I was served two little bars of meat covered in brown gravy. Each little bar was composed of what appeared to be a finely ground mixture of beef and pork. It reminded me of a piece of fine grained sandstone. My meatloaf needed, as a start, onion and salt. Neither little bar of meat seemed to be seasoned at all. My Home-Style Meatloaf was taste-free and earned a spot in the Food Hall of Shame. On the other hand, my dessert, their Homemade Cheesecake, was pretty good and my slice was HUGE. The Franklin Chop House has been right here over twenty years serving traditional American food.I haven't dined here since 2013, but back then this restaurant served well cooked, filling food. Those who want their food more elaborately prepared had best go elsewhere. Not everyone will be happy in the Franklin Chop House neighborhood. Our wait to be seated was far longer than necessary. Both sides, the green beans and the mashed potatoes, were enjoyable. My meatloaf could easily have dropped Franklin Chop House into two star land, but that wonderful cheesecake raised them up from the depths. Give the Franklin Chop House three stars. read more

We USED to love this place! In fact we have been going for years and gave it good reviews on our restaurant review blog. But the reason we wont be returning is since we got our trained and registered service dog, they never seat us near the other customers. In the last five visits they stuck us in a corner near the bar or in the front or back corner of the restaurant away from other customers. We were on a first name basis with the manager and since we got our service dog she has never spoken to us once when we have eaten in the restaurant. But, since we loved the food, and hadn't been in a while because of how we felt excluded, we decided to give it one last try today just in case it was coincidence that we had been seated away from everyone. We waited for our table and one of the other patrons was praising our dog and how well behaved she is....he even offered to buy the dog a steak if we would like. When a server was finally available, they started to put us in the corner booth by the bar AGAIN and I told them we didn't wish to be in the corner by the bar. My daughter is ten and neither of us particularly like to be in or near the bar. She also had noted that they always seat us away from everyone now that she has her service dog and that it was embarrassing. I asked for another booth.... and just as I suspected they would do, they took us all the way to the back corner of the restaurant away from everyone else. I told the manager we were not happy with being seated away from everyone in the corners of the restaurant repeatedly and the co owner asked why we were leaving. I told him why and THEN he offered to seat us anywhere we'd like. (He was the one who tried to send us to the corner in the bar and also told the manager another table number which was in the far rear corner) It's a shame and an embarrassment. I'm gonna miss thier food, it's really amazing. But I will not allow anyone to treat my family this way because we have a service dog!!!! Note:The ADA specifically states that segregating us or assigning us different seeating from any other patrons is a violation of federal law. I have filed a complaint with the ADA/US Dept. of Justice and will not be back in this restaurant!!! read more

It had been years since I had visited this place ... wow am I glad I gave it another shot. The food has much improved. Now I've always liked the warm ambience of this place but years ago the food was not so great. However this past Friday we happened by and decided to go...I had the black bean burger with fries. The fries were hot and crispy yum. The burger they served on toast at first I was disappointed to not get a bun, however upon my first bite I realized the toasted bread was the perfect pairing. Maybe we hit them on a bad night, but after waiting 35 minutes for a table, the food was pretty bad. My son-in-law ordered a steak--medium rare, mashed potatoes and salad. The server came over later and said his potatoes wouldn't be done for a while, so he got Mac & cheese instead. Unfortunately, the steak was WELL DONE, not medium rare. It was seasoned well, but chewed like leather. Three of us got grilled sandwiches. which didn't look like they were grilled at all (very white bread). My DIL's chicken sandwich was so tough, she couldn't break off pieces of the chicken or even cut it. The only good thing was the dessert and the biscuits they brought to the table. We have delayed going here because we thought it was an old person place. We went tonight and could not believe how awesome it was!!! The house pasta was to die for!!! Stopped here while visiting family and overall it was a good experience. I ordered the bbq ribs and my guest had the ribeye. The ribs were cooked till soft and came with a side of bbq sauce that was good but not bottle take home worthy. The bread biscuits we had while we waited was a cross between a biscuit and cornbread... different and the thing I remember most coming out of dinner.
