Awesome food and atmosphere. The best meal we've had all year, hands down. We sat at the bar/kitchen complete with a fancy backlite onyx countertop and watched in amazement as master chef Scott Fraser and his staff of sous chefs cooked up gourmet dishes one after another for the patrons. Between the out of this world food and the entertainment of watching the kitchen prepare their amazing dishes this was a memorable dining experience. Make a reservation well in advance for a bar/kitchen seat and be prepared to be wined, dined and entertained for an evening of fun and fantastic food. A one of a kind experience. You will not find a better restaurant than Frasers. It's considered expensive (expect to pay around $50-60 a person) but the food is exquisite, the atmosphere is warm and lovely and the staff is amazing. To find a restaurant like this in a little town like Oak Harbor is a treat. I would definitely keep this place in mind for special occasions or to just treat yourself. I do not understand the raving reviews of this place. Those people must not ever leave Oak Harbor for food. While the food was ok-good, it is their staff that earned them a 2-star rating. When we entered the restaurant, the hostess was having a personal conversation with someone, which is fine- however, my husband and I stood there for a good 4 minutes before she rudely asked "reservations?". As you know, 4 minutes to stand somewhere just waiting for someone to help you seems like an eternity. Seeing is this is a higher-end restaurant, I notice a coat check to the right of the host stand that is no where close to full. I ask the host to please check my coat, to which she replies, "you can put it on the back of your chair". Um, then what is the point of having a coat check? I was ticked. Just because my husband and I are younger (25 and 26) does not mean that we do not deserve to be treated with respect, seeing as we are about to drop $200 on food just like everyone else in there. So I hung my jacket on the back of a cracking leather chair. Our waiter was nice, nothing special, but nice. We started with fondue and oysters and then had filets which were ok, and a desert that masqueraded itself as a "Grand Marnier" cake. Not even a hint of the rich, orange flavor Grand Marnier posesses. If you are looking for a meal that is REALLY worth your money, I would drive the 15 minutes into Coupeville and go to Front Street Grill. read more

My daughter tried the short ribs and I got the calamari with blue cheese sauce. All the ingredients are of the highest quality and cooked to perfection. Portion size is perfect and reasonable. We decided to order here for the first time tonight, we ordered take out and were expecting something amazing and instead we got the opposite. We ordered the surf and turf, (filet mignon with scallops and shrimp and mussels description per menu.), The seafood fettuccini and the seafood clam chowder. Our order came to $82.50, we did not get the total over the phone we were told we could have it at pick up. When my boyfriend got home and we saw the food in the crappy to-go boxes I damn near had a heart attack. We paid $82 for a tiny piece of meat that was dry and tasted no better then an Applebee's steak, a 1/4 cup of mashed potatoes, ONE shrimp. ONE scallop, and 3 mussels. (Surf and turf) and the fettuccini which had a bland taste and very little seafood and a cup of chowder. How do they think it is ok to charge people this much money for such sub par food? I always believe, you get what you pay for and in this case, we did NOT get what we paid for. For this price, I was expecting something So much better. Eating in downtown Seattle itself is cheaper and better quality and what we were charged and given tonight was ridiculous. Never again will we eat here. Big mistake. read more

An absolute gem of a find from my fellow Yelpers! Was on "the Rock" visiting family and my wife and I were having our wedding anniversary, was a bit skeptical due to the location, but was I mistaken! The food was out of this world! I got the beef short ribs, that were cooked to perfection and so succulent that they melted in my mouth (amazing sauce too!), and my wife got the red snapper. I cannot believe how good that fish was! You could literally take that restaurant and place it in downtown Chicago and be amazingly successful! Amazing food, very decent beer selection, amazing service, epic mustaches, all for a very decent price!!!! How can you go wrong? If you happen to find yourself on "The Rock", and love good modern cuisine, go here, you will not be disappointed! I read a bad review about the place stating that they had massive problems with their "coat check". I could not stop laughing when we entered and saw a coat rack. Yes, a coat rack.... Just took the Mrs. to Frasers for our anniversary. The food was really good for the price. We had the calamari appetizer. The texture was perfect and the peppers added a nice warmth. My wife had the lobster pasta dish and was extremely pleased. I had the special, Kobe flat iron steak with truffle mashed potatos, grilled asparagus, Dungeness crab and a chimichuri- hollandaise sauce. Often, chimichuri sauce is oily and separates. The hollandaise was a genius way to add the flavor without making the dish greasy. The Kobe was perfectly seasoned and cooked precisely to order (medium). The only reason for 4 vice 5 stars is the atmosphere which had more to do with the table arrangement than anything else. Service was friendly and there is no dress code. read more

I'm giving this place three stars not for the food, but for the service. Our food was delicious! One of the best steaks I have ever had. The peppercorn sauce was amazing. Great wine list and wonderful appetizers as well. Our server on the other hand didn't seem to be interested. It took him almost 5 minutes to great us. Once our food was out he never checked back with us to see how everything was and didn't even ask us about dessert. I'm not sure if everyone was having a bad night, but the servers and cooks looked like they weren't happy all night. When I think of Frasers Gourmet Hideaway, I literally start to drool a little. My husband and I went for a romantic anniversary dinner, and didn't care of the price, we knew it would be up there. But thought, it's out anniversary, if were going some where good, let's do it right. If I could compare the price to somewhere else, it would be Olive Garden. BUT, when you spurge and practically buy 1-2 of everything, it adds up. lol. We had a tea, 2 beers, 2 salads, 2 desserts, 1 appetizer, and 2 entrees, and our total was around $120. SOOOOOOOOOO WORTH IT!! I have NEVER looked at a bill, that high for dinner before, and thought, OMG, that was SO worth it. This was the first! The desserts are made there, homemade. Along with everything else. The kitchen is WIDE open, with a half bar half way around it, to watch them cook everything. Fraser is the last name of the owner, which is the head chef. It's just AMAZING amazing food! We both had a steak dinner, can't remember the cuts, but two different ones. And even now, about 3 years later, STILL have NOT had a better steak, It was perfectly cooked, and as tender as they come. OMG! SO GOOD! read more

After my first delicious dinner, I knew I wasn't going to be able to leave the island and return home without one more night at Frasers. So Saturday night I made my way to Dock Street. Once again I was greeted warmly and felt very welcome. There was room at the bar, so I was delighted I could enjoy the spectacular show in the kitchen again. My starter tonight was the Steak Tartare. A handcut filet, minced to order and served with pomme frittes and a truffle aioli. The texture was smooth, the flavor savory and the presentation beautiful. Yes, it's true they had me at the truffle aioli, but wow was I happy with the whole thing. YUM! Next I watched as Chef Scott made my Carbonara. Not just an ordinary carbonara here tho. This was an amazing creation with wild boar bacon and poached duck egg. The yolk from the egg melted into the freshly shaved parmesan. Truly decadent and indulgent! I finished off my meal with a fresh mixed berry and apple bread pudding. This was the perfect finish. Lightly crisped top with a creamy texture. There are many things I have enjoyed about Whidbey, but Frasers is right at the top. I wish I could smuggle them back to Phoenix for a few more meals. read more

We frequent Frasers often and always been the best we know of in this area. Well worth the price. If you have a small group, be sure and sit at the bar and watch the skill the chef and sous chefs put into their creations. Incredibly fine top ingredients and we have never had a dissapointing meal. Scott is simply the best. This restaurant is tops. Also recommend making reservations. And, wanted to add, the few negative reviews I have read do not compute. It takes a lot for me to write a 5-star review. I'm a foodie, a princess, and a connoisseur of alcohol. This place meets or exceeds the standards set by its big brother to the south (Seattle). We arrived 30 minutes early for our reservation, but were seated promptly regardless. The waiter proved himself prompt (but not hover-y), and knowledgeable about the menu. Round 1: chowder ($10). Not strictly clams and somygod good. Seriously. Even though it came with three in-the-shell mussels (not my favorite, but I took one for the team), it was smooth and comforting. Round 2: scallops ($30?). The angels sang. Seriously. I am a fisherman's daughter and a seafood b*tch. These are fresh, light, and NOT overcooked. The chili oil is bright but not overpowering, and the truffle pasta is a lovely complement. Round 3: white chocolate cheesecake. No words needed. WIN!! (And, even though they were out of my first Sauvignon Blanc choice, the replacement was great!) I'll be back. For sure. So. Damn. Good. read more

This restraunt is one of the best I have ever been to. Gourmet food is accurate and it is outstanding. It looks every bit as good as it tastes. Every time I stay in Oak Harbor I make sure I eat at this restaurant at least once. The food is prepared in full view of the customers and the Chef came by and talked with us and asked how the food was. For food and service this good the price is a bargin. Hands down, this restaurant offers creative, carefully cooked gourmet dining consistently. The customer service is top notch from those who answer the phone to those who bus tables. I prefer to dine there on weeknights, because it is just very relaxed, but compared to top restaurants in Seattle, and Europe - this hideaway is an undiscovered treasure. Lately, if I have not tried the day's specials and a dining partner has, I've regretted it - just because it might not be offered again. I'll happily revisit to dine. read more

Absolutely the best place to eat on the island. It is expensive but it is equal to city restaurants and equal or better food in every way. The mussels are Penn Cove and I could drink the sauce if it didn't look de classe. Moving along, the surf and turf is simply amazing and probably the most expensive item, but a family of four in China could live on that plate for a week. This is not vegan, not gluten free, etc., but they probably would try to help with that. Just expect that you are eating out, not in a hospital cafeteria. Probably the nicest place to eat in Oak Harbor, but with an easy, laid-back attitude (and note: no dress code, although some patrons were quite dressed up). The food was excellent, apart from a bit of an industrial feel to the mashed potatoes that accompanied my surf-and-turf. My wife and I both had steak entrees, and the meat was prepared flawlessly. Decent wine list, and the place boasts a full bar, but there's no house cocktail list so adjust your expectations toward the standards (my Manhattan was decent). Service was earnest and capable: the hostess was gracious enough to seat us outside when we asked (not sure if the place has A/C but we visited on one of the warmest days of the summer and it was a bit stifling inside), and the server was very helpful and attentive. An added (random?) bonus: about midway through dinner the hostess gave a lovely solo serenade to a nearby table. A lovely evening and we'll definitely visit again next time we're in Oak Harbor. read more
