Best tacos in the area for sure! We use to go at least once every week. Unfortunately for me the ambience is key, and some months ago I was noticing that the noise level is just out of control. The music is so loud that you can't talk, no matter if you are inside or outside. We used to go late, so we just think that it was a "friendly" way to say "We're closing soon" but I went on a lunch time and the music level was very annoying too. I think y'all are crazy because this place is great. Is it a bit complicated? Sure... IYKYK I guess with the ordering then making process. I will break it down for you: 1. Get in line to order on the left 2. Pay for your order (cook food, bottle drink, dessert, agua fresca) 3. Get your slip/deserts from the cashier 4. Get in the line on the right to wait for the cook 5. Give cook your slip and he will ask you what modifiers you want (guac, cilantro, onions, salsa) 6. Pick up any agua frescas you ordered from the drink counter in the middle (it's like 30 ounces and refills are $2) 7. Get your tray of food and sit down wherever 8. Go to the salsa bar and pick up extra salsa, radish or limes. Btw there are no mild salsas here- spicy spice. The food is divine. The cheesecake is some of the best I've ever had. Great place for tacos and burritos. Service is generally good. It was not the case last week. I ordered some adobada fries and a mulita. A new guy was helping me out this time, he was on the trompo cuttingthe meat. Shorter guy, head seemed to be all over the place and not focused, like the OG taquero (expected, and that's ok). After he was done piling the cheese, meat, and crema on the fries he hands me the tray. I asked him to put on some salsa, cilantro and guacamole on it - like they always do. With frustration in his voice he said "go to the salsa bar" I asked him to do it again and again he directed me to the salsa bar in a very dismissive way. For a third time I asked him to add cilantro and onions because they always do when I visit (about 2 times per month. Which he did. But the leva thought it would be funny to give me 2 giant piles of cilantro, overwhelming the entire adobada fries with it. Chale. I had already pulled out some cash to tip him. Had to skip that part & put it back in my pocket after the cilantro and salsa fiasco. On another note, before he started putting my meal together I had asked him to add frijoles to the fries and he said no, they dont do that. The og taquero heard him and told him to add them, which he did. Unfortunately, he was so distracted by juggling the fries in the oil, that he forgot about the meat which he had put on the plancha - turned out dry as cardboard. I love Frida's! Taco taste to live for! I've eaten at both the Oceanside and Escondido locations several times. At the Escondido location in summer the cooks set up outside, which makes ordering and watching them prepare your food even more fun. But summer or winter, the service is super friendly, the tacos and fries are the best you'll find anywhere, the aguas frescas are tasty (they're large, but you can ask for an extra glass to share one with a friend)... and the prices are great ($1.99 tacos on Taco Tuesday!). They have really good aguas frescos here, it's our favorite. My go to flavor here is the strawberry one! It kinda tastes like strawberry milk! The mango one is also yummy too. We used to enjoy the carne asada at Frida's, but the quality has gone downhill. Perhaps the price of meat sent them looking for cheaper options. The carne asada is so too greasy it seeps through the tortillas and the tortillas fall apart. I hope they are able to bring back quality meat. read more

Today Tuesday July 9th I went in to get some tacos with my wife and my friend and the cashier had an attitude when I asked her which agua fresca the "yellow" one was. She said "look at the sign" I said.. Thank you but what flavor is the yellow one I can't tell off of the sign.. and with an attitude she replied Oh it's pineapple.. They have a cashier for hire sign no wonder.. I guess a cashiers have attitudes.. Now the food.. The salsa bar was horrible.. those cucumbers (picture attached) had to have been there for days and days maybe even a week.. cucumbers don't get like that in 24 hours or 48 hours.. Even the limes looked so dry and brown. I know people are always trying to save money but I believe that they need somebody to check the freshness of the food before they put it out. Like come on look at those cucumbers they look horrible. The tacos.. The taco meat tasted like beef jerky was so dry This is probably taco meat from the day before. Rotten salsa that was on the tacos tasted rancid and spoiled It had a tangy beer taste to it That's how you know the tomatoes have gone bad. Wow this place knocks it out of the park! What a fun spot. The ambiance is really neat and the food was so tasty. I couldn't resist an agua Fresca (mango orange is always a hit) though I wish they had a smaller size. They do have a lot of gluten free options. All of the meat is gluten free and the corn tortillas are prepped on their own grill. Obviously avoid the tortas but I had a lot of gluten free options. I got the carne asada and the pollo asado quesotacos. The tacos are giant here, you really only need two. They were also pretty spicy so next time I'd get salsa on the side. We came here on Sunday night around 6:30pm and although the outdoor seating was all filled, we actually BEAT the rush. Let me start by saying the food is AWESOME! I had the nachos, hubby had the vegetarian burrito (papas y soyrizo), and our two friends split all of the tacos so they could try them all. My only gripe about the nachos was it was liquid cheese (the picture on the sign was the carne asada and it had shredded cheese). The salsas were SCRUM-DIDILY-UMPTIOUS. They also tried the horchata and it was yummy too (next time the hubby said he will try the strawberries and cream). My only complaint is that the flow isn't great... You order at pay at the cashier and then sort of meander over to the "pick up" window. We weren't told that you actually have to stand in line at those windows so you the amazing chefs can make your food... It seemed pretty chaotic (although I did love that you see them preparing everything right in front of you - they work their booties off!), and when the crowd got longer after we arrived the bottleneck got worse. I love adobada/Al pastor tacos and Frida's tacos are tender, flavorful and topped with a heap of avocado. They keep it simple, fast and efficient. I never order asada fries because I think they can be greasy/lack flavor but my husband wanted to try them. These are the best I've had! The fries are skinnier/more shoestring style (which I prefer to the thick cut), they were super light and topped with a pile of tender, flavorful carne asada, grated cheese, sour cream, and avocado. Good tacos, not the best. Bang for your buck for tacos in North County. Service is very very slow! Usually tacquerias are known to have fast service, but not this one. Expect to wait in line to get your food for at least 45 minutes to over an hour during dinner time. The reason is they only have 2-3 people making peoples' orders.
