Went to Frida's today with my vegan daughter. She ordered the gluten free vegan pizza and chocolate ganache. She said the pizza was the best she'd ever had. The ganache was rich and delicious. I had to hold it, and it was heavy, so it had to be rich. My only complaint would be the cost (over $20) for a rather tiny pizza, but a good slice of ganache. Another place that gets a one star for not keeping their hours. I drive all this way, only to be greeted by a handmade sign that announces that they are "closed for kitchen upgrades." If you aren't going to keep your hours, have the courtesy to let Yelp know you are closed. read more

My husband and I both love Frida's and eat there frequently, including ordering carry out. It's a vegetarian restaurant, but there are many vegan choices or you can ask for a dish to be made vegan. Their signature kale salad is one of my favorites. I also love the burger options and flatbread. The decor is simple but tasteful, with fresh flowers on the tables. A small patio is pleasant during nice weather. The staff is friendly. The only negative is that it's a little pricey and that's what prevents me from giving it 5 stars. If the menu was less expensive, we'd eat there more often. Overall, it's definitely a great choice for vegetarian/vegan fare in STL. read more

What a wonderful experience we had with Frida's Catering. Our small vegan wedding might have been a bust if not for Frida's! From the beginning, Natasha offered up a very professional image and dedication, not only to the food, but also to service. After a preliminary screening of our budget, guest number, and a few other details, she nearly immediately sent us a quote with a few pre-planned menu options. After that, we set up a meeting at Frida's and got a great impression from Natasha and the food, of course, spoke for itself. For our mostly omnivorous guest list, Frida's food was a hit with most everyone at the reception: the crowd favorites included the 'chicken' salad and 'meatballs.' The day of the wedding, Natasha and crew arrived as scheduled and set up a beautiful spread with nothing left to chance. Though we've no interest in planning another wedding, we'd definitely recommend Frida's catering to anyone else planning something of the like. I have yet to order anything to dislike on their menu. Service can be hit or miss depending when you go, it can be super crowded and you may need to flag your waiter down more often or it can be slower and your waiter is right at your table when your water is 3/4 of the way. I like their drink options available, from something light and refreshing or something more on the alcoholic side. Unfortunately their mixed beverages could use more alcohol but it's a sipping joint not a get smashed joint. I can't choose a favorite dish, but one I return to is the raw fettuccine, the flavor is great the sauce and everything in the dish combines together well. I also enjoy their burgers too, the patty they use is actually a good meat substitute. I had ordered the felafel sandwich wrap and the actual felafels looked like dry brown hockey pucks. I could only have a tiny nibble of those disgusting things. I have eaten here many times and the food has consistently been very good. On my last lunch visit the vegan quesadillas were amazing, black beans and melted vegan "cheese" in baked tortillas. The cheese should be a trade secret for them, it had the consistency and taste of a real cheese! Expect to add your own seasonings (salt,pepper, acid, and heat) Natasha creates her recipes so they are clean. Which is nice for anyone watching their salt intake or has a delicate palate. Food: The first visit I got the Frida Burger. Its a soy burger with a wonderful soft locally made brioche bun. It comes with a sauced slaw and a side salad. My second visit I went for the taco salad. I didn't get the sunflower "meat" but i wish I had. The salad was a great size for being a 1/2 a salad and the flavor was fantastic. Next time I will try the "meat". My third and fourth visit I got the zucchini linguine with a frida burger on top (extra). I got a half order but could have used a full in this instance. Drinks: I have tried their Skinny Red Sangria. It doesn't taste skinny! Its very refreshing and flavorful with the fruit! I have also had (three of them) the Pineapple Jalepeno Sangria. WOW! We need more vegetarian food in STL, and Frida's is filling this niche! I've been anticipating its opening this week and my sister and I stopped in for lunch today. It was quite busy and the place is small - five two tops and four stools at a counter. We were worried that we wouldn't get a table, but we did, and even though it was busy, people seemed to be in and out quickly enough that there wasn't much waiting for tables. The menu is a great size, with a LOT of options, and options for vegan and thoose who prefer raw food. I am not either - bring on the cheese! You can build you own sandwich or smoothie. If you want to do this and there is a line, jump to the counter and grab a menu to mark on with an expo marker so you are ready to go when you get to the counter. Outside of the build your own, the menu consists of mostly sandwiches, a couple salads, smoothies, juices and soup. I'm a huge fan of the build your own because I'm picky. It was pretty funny that my sister and I each go a build your own veggie burger, but they were totally different! I got mine on a bun with lettuce, fresh mozzarella, avocado and organic ranch. Each sandwich comes with a cucumber salad, which is cucumbers with dill and maybe something else. It didn't sound great, but it was surprisingly flavorful! I really enjoyed it. My burger was quite big and really good. I don't get veggie burgers very often while eating out for two reasons: 1. They look or taste like meat. I'm a vegetarian for a reason! 2. The thought of them being grilled with actual meat burgers grosses me out. This veggie burger transcends both of those fears! The ingredients were fresh too. The ranch was delicious! Different than normal ranch but still very yummy. I had the lemonade, which they donate some money to the wounded warrior project to if you order it. It wasn't too sweet but it was just ok for me. Next time I plan on trying a smoothie or juice for sure. Workers were friendly and you could tell they were really trying to make customers happy! My girlfriend recommended this deli for our next outing. Just north of the corner at Delmar and North & South in University City. They're expanding, and the new space looks great. And it's almost done. As it is now, there are just six tables for 2. But the expansion will more than double the seating space. She got a grilled cheese -- $7.95 -- White cheddar, tomato, arugula and avocado served on multigrain bread. I got the mushroom Reuben -- $8.95 -- Cremini mushrooms, sauerkraut, tomato, Swiss cheese and avocado with house-made thousand island dressing served on vegan pumpernickel swirl. I mentioned that I love sauerkraut, and I got extra. Both sandwiches came with hummus and celery sticks. The celery was the freshest I've ever had in a restaurant. The hummus was tasteless. She liked her grilled cheese. I liked my mushroom Reuben. It was chocked full of mushrooms and avocado. Small slices of fresh tomato and wonderful sauerkraut. The Swiss cheese . . . I didn't get the taste, nor did I get a taste of the thousand island dressing. The flavor mixes could have had something to do with the abundance of sauerkraut. But I'm not complaining. I'm rooting for this place like crazy. As a vegan, I really want more and more places like Frida's to both open and be successful. And given it is right in my neighborhood, I am especially in Frida's corner for their success. We've been there several times, so I feel pretty objective in providing a review. The food has been generally good, but sometimes inconsistent. My first visit, the Steak Sandwich blew me away, but a subsequent order was so-so. The crabcake sandwich had little flavor, but I was still impressed with their attempt to deliver a faux crabcake. I had a white bean/sausage soup that was outstanding, but then a french onion soup that was little more than onion flavored water. Their veggie burger is among the best I've had and may be a strong anchor for their menu. However, the value proposition is a challenge with most meals even without drink struggle to come under 10 bucks for a lunch and that is with a meager side for your sandwich. Yes, preparing good vegan, vegetarian, or raw foods has some preparation techniques that are labor intensive and likely contending with U City's oppressive rules and rents may provide for a higher overhead, but I would encourage "Frida" to take a harder look at their value picture. What has disappointed me most is their service. Food takes a long time to come out and the front of the house is often so harried with orders that I've witnessed and been a victim to food cooling in the pass well after the cook has rung the bell. I've had and enjoyed the kale chips, but won't pay nearly $5 again for them and many of the cold case items look very appealing, but can't justify the $4 for about 1/2 cup of food that you'd get. I'm not looking for McDonald's prices or speed. I will both pay for and patiently wait for high quality vegetarian and vegan foods, but I do hope that Frida will work to either raise their standards to match their prices or consider a different value equation for their offering while tightening up their service model. This place is great. I'm a vegan in town covering the unrest in Ferguson, and I was happy to find this joint less than ten miles from the airport. It's good for health crazed vegans/vegetarians as well as vegans like me...the kind who show up in desperate need of a hangover helper. I tried the recommended Reuben. I have been in the past for juices from the juice bar and have enjoyed them. I thought I would give this place a try for food and ordered a Mexican wrap. After taking just a few bites, I realized that I didn't really like it. The taste was odd yet bland and the quinoa did not pair with the sour cream. I asked the server to take it back and replace it with a juice, and she flippantly replied, "I'm going to have to charge you for the wrap anyway" So I basically got a $22 cup of juice. I came in with my homegirl and ordered two of your Lemon-Ginger Sodas. Made to order...fresh ginger pulp and juice. GORGEOUS. After a couple pulls of the elixir the bottom and sides of my tongue were vibrating. I was like, HAY! I did notice half way through emptying the glass...my bio-degradable straw was literally melting. I was okay with this. We need to save our Mother. Next came the hummus platter. I am SO sorry to say this but the texture was perfection but it was absolutely tasteless. Garbanzos need A LOT of salt. I got a faint scent of Tahini. WHERE WAS THE GARLIC?? Your homemade flatbead crackery planks of crunch...yes! Those I can munch all day. For real. Major snaps. Next came out my BLT. Is it just me or is Companion bread THE BEST bread for toasting in our world? Tucked underneath was vegan mayo, not horrible, and cooked ribbons of tempeh "bacon." I was so happy to have found this place while visiting St Louis. The atmosphere is cute, and I loved the tempeh BLT (first time I'd tried tempeh bacon). The burger is also good, and is a very substantial meal. Very vegan friendly, with clearly identified vegan options. The menu also identifies gluten-free and soy-free items. The space is a little cramped currently, however they are expanding into the space next door, so it should be better soon. Bring quarters for street parking. It's bright, clean and the staff are welcoming. Came for lunch which was pretty busy and not ideal for a conversation. If you love veggies and prefer not much meat...this place is good. Had the hummus veggie wrap with no red onions. It was definitely filled with a lot of veggies. Tasty. Also got the avocado mousse...delicious! Does not taste like avocado. One thing I'd like to see is more photos of their food on the menu. I'm a visual person so reading certain things on the menu that I'm not sure what it is is overwhelming. I did appreciate the waiter trying to suggest something when asked. The food at Frida's is delicious. Saturday 9/14/19 was my second visit and my friends first. We thoroughly enjoyed all of our food but the service was lacking. The restaurant was busy but not packed and it appeared the dispersion of staff to tables was appropriate. We had to wait a long time for anyone to appear at our table and recognize that we were awaiting service and it took another 10-15ish minutes for the waiter to arrive. Our appetizer did not show up as an appetizer and we had to ask for it when the meal arrived. A table behind us who, arrived after we had placed our order, received food prior to ours. We did not order beverages and we didn't ask for anything special. I hope this was an anomaly and not a trend as the food is spectacular but I was disappointed at the overall experience. My husband and I ate here with my daughter a few days ago. We searched for vegetarian options in STL and decided on Frida's because of the positive remarks. WOW, so wrong. The size of the restaurant (very small) and the prices (totally fair in my opinion) seem to be the focus of the negative remarks in regards to this restaurant. This is the least of their problems. First, why is it a "deli?" Totally confusing menu. My husband had the Frida burger which looked horrible and tasted worse. I had the white cheddar grill cheese add tempeh bacon. How do you screw that up? It was slimy cheese, dry bread, and too thick "bacon." Then there was the soup; Italian white bean & watercress. We have never tasted soup so bad. It literally looked and tasted like bean water, no salt, no flavor, no seasoning whatsoever. I don't even know how they justified sending it out it was so horrible. Last but not least, you get celery & hummus with your meals, sounded great. Instead we received these 4 sad, brown, shriveled up pieces of celery with a virtually flavorless side of hummus. An aside. My husband and I have been vegetarians for over 15yrs and have dined all over as vegetarians. A previous reviewer said that vegetarian restaurants are "different" and you basically shouldn't expect vegetarian food to be "as flavorful" as you would in non vegetarian restaurants. This place is great! Exactly what STL needs. The menu was extensive and reasonably priced, and able to accommodate vegetarians, vegans and raw foodists alike. The Frida burger (named after the owner's cat) was meaty and the tangy and crunchy slaw was delish. My favorite part was the crispy nd refreshing cucumber and dill salad. Maybe a bowl of that for next time. I am a sucker for kale chips and the Coconut Curry chips were just what I wanted. Will be back to try more of their raw foods and a smoothie.Go. Here.
