We had a nice lunch outdoors, under cover, and felt safe during Covid. The food was good, nothing special, and service was attentive. Brunch entrees included French Toast with bacon, Falafel, and chicken sandwich. All were tasty. All in all, a pleasant dining experience. read more

UPDATE YOUR WEBSITE - the dining room is being renovated and they are using the bagel store next door for dining. It was hot and uncomfortable and I ended up ordering my food to go and eating at my desk. Not the relaxing, end of week treat I was anticipating. If you have a website, you owe it to your customers to keep them informed of major issues / updates to your restaurant. Just paid $25 (including tax/tip) for the worst salad of my life. The Cobb salad tasted like a packaged salad from the grocery store 3-4 days old. The hard-boiled eggs were partially frozen, the bacon was dry and had a processed taste. Lettuce was bottom of the barrel quality and flavorless. Chicken also tasted packaged. First trip to Friedman's when it was really busy. I understand there might be a labor shortage, but the service was terrible. After we ordered, the food didn't arrive for over 30 minutes, and only then when I asked the busser to flag down our server (who hadn't bothered to check on us since taking our order). She dropped one of our three entrees, and said "the food is coming out now," and left. The next two entrees didn't arrive for another 10 minutes. It was pretty evident that someone had forgotten about us as the food had been hastily made, and not good. Even the Mac & Cheese, which we usually like, was dried out on the top and soupy at the bottom. We won't be returning. read more

Their Chinese restaurant, La Salle Dumpling Room, is AMAZING. The original one is near Columbia university and super popular with students. Lots of Chinese go there and say how authentic it is. It's a bit confusing that part of this restaurant is a different Chinese restaurant, but they have amazing dumplings, noodles and beef dishes. My mom is from Shanghai and recommends it a lot! read more

Food is decent. But I had a weird experience at lunch once. I came with my parents on a Thursday for lunch. They were pretty crowded and had a lot of large groups for a Thursday between 12pm-1pm. The only table left was their 6-seat booth. They offered it to us because they didn't want to keep us waiting longer. We had probably been waiting almost ten minutes. But there were conditions: if another table left before our food came out, then we have to move to the smaller table. I did not ask for the 6-seat table, they offered and they're putting conditions on it. I also didn't do anything to prompt this offer, such as "how much longer is the wait?" My party did have to move tables during our visit. The staff didn't even clean the smaller booth properly. They pushed the crumbs on the table onto the benches and I had to push those bench crumbs away myself. And no large party arrived after us to occupy that 6-seat booth. I get that the staff want to maximize the table settings, but I can't help feel but inconvenienced. They made me feel like they were doing me a favor when I didn't ask for the big table to begin with. There was also a woman sitting by herself at a four seat table and waiting a while (at least ten minutes from when I arrived to when I was seated at the large booth) for the rest of her party to show up. Maybe they shouldn't seat groups who haven't arrived in their entirety yet. read more

Definitely don't come here. Expect an exaggerated wait based on who they choose to serve first and who they don't want to serve. Should've known yo avoid this place after I saw an angry customer leave after waiting over 1 hour for water. The food is grossly overpriced for the wait and over salted pork. Not worth the visit even if you live in the neighborhood. The best bet is to let this place go under and wait for a new owner who is grateful for the customers and business. If I could give this place zero stars I would. Completely unacceptable treatment of customers, from staff and the owner. Owner is arrogant and seems to think that customers are below him. And you know what they say...fish rots from the head. I called Friedman's West Sunday (11/7/21) morning to put in a brunch order for pickup. Someone picked up the phone but never said anything -- and after listening to background noise for a while they hung up. Thinking this was unintentional, I called back and this time someone picked up and seemingly just set the phone down without saying anything. I waited again, just listening to background noise. The third time I called, the same thing happened. The fourth time I called, no one picked up. Since I live just a block away, I decided to walk over and see what was going on, and put my order in in person. A guy was at the register, and I explain to him first the annoying experience I had just had on the phone. He then admits that they were not taking any orders since they were busy and were intentionally leaving customers hanging on the phone. Without apologizing he asks me what I needed. I said, well first you could apologize for wasting my time and second you could stop doing that by turning on an auto message saying you're not taking orders, or maybe just pick up the phone and tell the customer you're not taking orders. He said "sorry about that but we're really busy", as if busy justified what they were doing. I then decided to not put in the order, so I left to run a quick errand. I passed by Friedman's on the way back and decided that I should tell the manager/owner about my experience, since I want the place to succeed and handling calls/customers like that isn't a way to success. I told the guy that I spoke to originally that I wanted to speak to the owner. He said I should call the restaurant not on the weekend (implying that the owner wasn't there). As he was saying this, another employee walked up and asked me what the problem was and I said I wanted to speak to the owner -- and she said wait right here and I'll get him (now I'm more annoyed at the evasive employee). After a couple of minutes, a woman approaches me and says she's the manager and asks if I need help. I tell her what happened with the calls and she just gives me a blank look like "what am I supposed to do about that". Looking totally defeated, she just said sorry and walked away without properly ending the conversation. I then ask the other staff member who said she'd get the owner if he was coming and she said yes. The owner then came out and with a very smug look on this face said they were doing the best that they could given how busy they were. He didn't seem at all dismayed by how they were mistreating customers by intentionally leaving them hanging on the phone. To the contrary, he was very dismissive, as if I wasn't worthy of his valuable time. I saw that it was a lost cause and left. read more

Sat down in out door dining with subway sandwich since there was no business , I'll admit while it was wrong of me to do, I was very respectful and conscious of the space. Soon after a waitress came up to us and ask if we wanted anything. And the gentleman that I am and instead of being a douche, I took her up on offer and ordered 2 lemonades. One for me and my significant other. And upon requesting the order, I felt that there was much attitude that was very unfair to us as we became official costumers of this establishment. After we received our order not even 10 minutes later did she ask us in the most impolite way if we were just "hanging around" as if we where delinquents loitering around this establishment. Also I would like to comment as an avid lemonade drinker, even a connoisseur to some, that first and foremost the ice to lemonade proportion was not balanced in the slightest. lastly the manner at which It was handed to us was most definitely not friendly, And from the attitude that was observed, most definitely not made "with love". I am horrified with this experience and am truly saddened that me and my spouse had to go through such disrespectful treatment. I will be taking my business else where and hope that this matter can be taken care of hastily. PS. this lemonade Tasted as if it was taken from a minute made lemonade bottle. read more
