This place looked cool from the street. Plenty of outdoor seating, an attractive building and a live music stage. It's too bad the service was so disappointing. I waited ten minutes at the hostest station to be acknowledged then another 15 minutes at a table outside waiting for my waitress. I was just about to stand and leave when she finally arrived. My cheeseburger was decent and the onion rings (not "strings" as stated on the menu) were delicious. What made me decide never to return was when I went indoors to the men's room. Not one staff member was wearing a mask to reduce customer' exposure to Covid-19 and the tv was tuned to the Newsmax disinformation channel. This is our new favorite spot since moving to the area! Our first time here we placed a to go order- brisket enchiladas and the Guadalupe burger. Unfortunately there was an error in the order, however, the customer service was FANTASTIC. The manager went above and beyond to make sure the error was not only corrected by supplying a new item, but crediting us for dish. The food itself was absolutely AMAZING! Every item was so delicious. I actually do not like black beans, but these are fantastic. Full of flavor and the right amount of tenderness. We ventured out and dined in on our next trip. The smoke chicken quesadilla, shrimp tacos, the wings, and the fish tacos and kids burgers. Once again-everything was knocked out of the park yummy. We ordered the chess pie for dessert. It was good. I know it was made well, just not my favorite type of dessert. We also had cocktails and drafted beer. All fantastic. The kids were able to play and have a ton of fun while we waited on food. Yet again- the service is less than expected. Ordered a bottle of white wine and our waiter brought it out, and just left it on the table. Yes, it's a thousand degrees outside. How about an ice bucket. We only had to ask 3 times before it was delivered. Our food was meh- the pecan crusted chicken was delish- others in our group ordered burgers- medium- and they were served charcoal briquettes. The steak was so well done it looked grey. And to top it off? Even with the horrible service, was hey added on a 20% gratuity to our tab. Which is a little baffling as there were 6 adults and 3 kids at two separate tables. Maybe because we all knew each other? I think the draw of this place is strictly the ambiance- nice outdoor seating, open areas, great singer outside. Waited over twenty minutes sat at the table without anybody coming to us. I had to walk back inside to get someone out to us to get our drinks and order. After ordering it took over 40 minutes to get our food, got the wrong side for my dish as well and it was bland at best. the fries and ketchup had the most flavor. We went back after having a not so great experience the first time. Definitely not a place to go during peak times or holidays. We were there for Sunday Brunch and they have a two page menu for brunch. Anything from waffles to country fried steak. The country fried steak was huge and comes with garlic mashed potatoes and a salad. I ordered the french toast and there were five pieces of toast. It was a lot of food. The mimosas are good, $5 each. They have a good wine and beer menu as well. Our server was much better than the previous time and if you check in on Yelp, there is a 20% off offer. We have eaten at Frio on a few occasions. For the most part, the food has been good. On one occasion, the Texas Cobb salad came out with very watery dressing - like they rinsed the lettuce and poured dressing right over it. Otherwise, most stuff has been pretty tasty. There used to be a relatively extensive menu. Unfortunately, they have pared that down significantly and options are relatively limited. You may have to get creative if you have any special dietary restrictions - celiacs be wary here as waitstaff doesn't really know what are and are not gluten-containing items (also not indicated on the menus provided in the restaurant). Service can be hit and miss, having waited by the host stand for 5-10 minutes before being seated with an empty restaurant midweek, to waiting 20 minutes for a tea refill. They seem a little disorganized and understaffed for busy times such as weekend lunch times. And be aware that if you are seated at a table in the back of the restaurant, you are kind of "out of sight, out of mind." Frio is a different concept and has a nice area for kids to run around. While we never been disappointed here, we've also never been overly impressed. read more

Close to home and nice concept. Tried it a second time and hubby begged me not to return. I must admit I do love the green chili cheese grits...probably the best value on the menu. The taste is so unique, I crave it. For $4.95, it's a deal. We've tried the burger, the whiskey wings and the hog wings. The burger was good, but after eating it, both my husband and I got sick. And I only had a bite of his burger. Both the whiskey and hog wings were too sweet. My husband had a tomato soup...too salty, he said. We decided to splurge and go for the dessert...but our waitress had already handed us our check. We even told her when she first got our order that we were interested in getting dessert! We decided to get the West Texas Pecan Skillet a la mode for $8.95, this baby was not cheap. The picture on the website even looked good. What we got, a soupy mess topped a quick-melting ice cream. Not bad for a date night. We really like the ambiance of the place but I think the large layout doesn't help when it comes to service. We've been here a few times and every time the service has been slow. I think it's just the distance servers have to walk to get to all their tables and back to the kitchen. If you come here expecting a little bit of a wait, it's not b. I like the beer selections and they offer flights. The food is pretty good but about average. Nothing to write home about (but enough to write a four star review). They had live music outside last time we were there and there is plenty of space for kiddos to run off all that energy while the parents sit back, enjoy a drink and relax. My biggest concern was with the kids running into the middle of the road. There was a kid playing in the middle of the road that's takes you to the parking in the back. That's not Frio's fault though but might be worth while putting a fence up or a sign that says Children Crossing? There wasn't a baby changing station in the women's restroom so we walked to our vehicle to change our daughter. The beers that our table ordered were not what we originally asked for. Great service!!!! Our waiter was wonderful and while we weren't his table originally he took great care of us. The salad we wondered was very fresh and presentable. The only "issue" we had was when we ordered the kids grilled cheese and there was Swiss on it... weird but it looked nice. Kid wouldn't eat it but tasted great to the rest of us. This was our second time here and probably our last. Great potential, nice property, love the atmosphere and God knows we need more places out here. Unless these people get it together fast, they will be going out of business. The last time we were not so impressed with the food. This time we got burgers. The beed which the menu said was "amazing" was not at all. Tasted like mush. A frozen pattie from costco. No seasoning. And the waitress, who told us "Im only 18" about the questions we asked, was really a true amateur. Our burgers came bare. We had to ask for mayo, mustard, ketchup, tomatoes, etc. then we she brought the Condiments out, she barely brought enough. Bottom line, when your food is not better than what I can make..... you're doomed. Get it together people. We need more options out here. read more

This place is actually pretty great. Food is amazing, small selection of beers compared to other places but do they do change them out on a regular basis. Happy Hour is from 11a-7p so that's always good too. Most of the time there's a pretty good crowd Thrusdays - Saturday. Lot of families with kids, so if that's not your thing, maybe come in the evening instead of late afternoon. Staff has always been great, friendly and quick service. It does get busy sometimes and I've noticed the service MIGHT tend to be a little slow during the evening, but never had an issue with food/drinks taking a long time to come out. Every restaurant gets busy, so gotta understand that. Live music on Friday and Saturday's is nice. Mostly acoustic but sometimes full bands outside in the patio area if the weather is nice out. Patio seating is roomy, but it's a family spot so if kids running around isn't your thing, grab a seat inside. Overall, we enjoy coming here (especially since we have kids) and I haven't ordered anything that I didn't like. I've been to Frio Grill a few times. The food is good with a nice atmosphere that feels it doesn't belong in Houston. Most recently, while the food had good flavor, some of the plate was cold. Brisket enchiladas are amazing and the shrimp tacos. I mean, wow. So delicious!!! Never left unsatisfied when I order from Frio.

So today was our first time here and when we arrived it did not a seem all that busy. Within 30 minutes, this place was filling up and was crazy. My takeaway was that they need more help and the waitstaff needed fewer tables, as our orders were wrong, coffee was cold, drinks took a long time and refills really were not happening. Some of our table (mind you there were 13 of us) had a great experience and other, not so much. I guess I had the bar set high on this place and was disappointed with the food, drinks and service. I don't see myself going back to the Frio Grill any time soon. read more

My husband and I took our 3 daughters here for lunch (Sunday) around noon. Overall, the place has GREAT potential. We love, love, love the decor. Our waitress was so friendly. They were understaffed, but my husband and I decided that we weren't going to get upset about slow service and just enjoy our time there. Pros: Cool atmosphere, extensive draft beer menu, food was good Cons: slow service, food was a bit cold, but still tasty. Recommendations: We could only order off of the brunch menu (I totally understand the reasoning)...however, 99% of the brunch menu consists of high calorie options. It would be nice if they had a grilled chicken salad or something lighter for those of us who try and eat semi healthy. Overall, I think this place really will be great once they iron out all of the kinks. We will definitely be back. read more

This is a new restaurant with a southern atmosphere. For the high prices I was a little disappointed in a few things. Out of the two drinks that I ordered, both were not good. They were bitter and one had a bug in it. They did not charge me for the one with a bug so I do not blame them for that. The fried macaroni appetizer was dry and not cheesy enough. As for the salad the lettuce was bitter and nothing you couldn't get at the grocery store. Then for the main course I had the pecan crusted chicken which was good. I just wish there would be more vegetables on the plate. Several people at our party had very salty mashed potatoes.
