We were still wanting to have a nice dinner, but not wanting to take our baby out - since she goes to bed at 6:30. Our go to order: calamari, Caesar salad with anchovies, and create your own pasta: rigatoni noodles, olive oil garlic sauce, Cajun seared chicken breast, broccoli, Kalamata olives, and goat cheese. After reading the great reviews and viewing the amazing-looking food photos on Yelp, I decided to take my in-laws to Fritto Misto for their anniversary celebration dinner. Oops, bad call. First off, the place was insanely loud and the constant thud of bass in the background club music was...well, annoying. Granted, it was a holiday weekend Saturday night so I get that service might be a little less polished than normal...and I was right. We barely sat down and we're greeted with "Are you ready to order?" Um, no greeting and no drink order first? It may have all been okay had the food been amazing...but it wasn't. I ordered the Gorgonzola gnocchi dish - fail. The gnocchi seemed overcooked and the sauce was disappointing - like it was plated, then shoved in a blast furnace to dry out (it looked nothing like the photos I saw on Yelp.) Oh, and the cold bits of tomato sprinkled on top...were cold, like really cold. I won't get into my wife's plate, but let's just say it was mediocre at best. A disappointing visit that left me bummed for taking my in-laws there on a special occasion - they didn't complain, however I could tell they didn't think it was great. Parking was bit hard to find on a busy weekend, but if you are willing to walk, you can park on PCH or nearby residential area .5 mile away fairly easily. Our party brought two bottles of wine to enjoy, and the cork-fee was $5 per person! So if you are looking for a place for a nice pasta with your own wine to bring, this is the place! A fantastic option to try if you're in the mood for some Italian cuisine and you happen to be in the area. There is a wonderfully pleasant focus on traditional options, but also a play on spicer seasonings that are not normally found in Italian dishes. My family and I went here yesterday (08/21/22) for the first time and were very happy with the food and most especially the service. I would definitely recommend this restaurant!! Let's start with the food. First we received the bread that was crispy on the outside and so soft on the inside! It was perfect! The butter was soft so it didn't break the bread. I didn't get a picture because it was so good we just started eating. Our food came out not too long after we ordered it maybe 15-20 minutes and mind you this place was packed. I got the Ravioli and it was amazing! I usually don't like ravioli but wanted to try something new. I am glad I did. I ordered a small calamari and it was a pretty good size! I didn't expect that much. I ate calamari each day I was in Cali and theirs was by far the best!! Last but not least was the customer service we received. It was amazing. Our waiter came over multiple times to check on us. Never knew that Italian food tastes so good and authentic until I tried this place. I stopped going to Olive Garden and had the realization that I should rather try authentic cuisines instead. First I love the location as it is very lively and as it is close to beach, it always has nice vibe around it. The interiors are perfect and gives a nice home feeling. The Atomic Pasta Chicken is my most favorite item here. The spice level is perfect and the chicken is juicy and has lot of flavor. The pasta sauce is good and goes great with chicken. I love small town places. I looked this place up for dinner and went in before they closed. They still sat us and the staff were all so sweet. So many different ethnicities working and they are worked seamlessly together. Everyone was so smiley! I loved the person who bussed our table. They kept making small talk and made me feel at home in hermosa. I really love this city and this is one of the very reasons I keep coming back! I had to get the fried pillows because they were so unique and I've never had anything like it. They were a bit dry but the interior was delicious. Good for a table of 3-4. I felt so wasteful not finishing the plate. Calamari was okay, but I love that they had 2 sizes! The portions are huge. I got a small and it was a lot! So many pastas and dishes to choose from, but me and the bf ended up with chicken parmesana hermosa and we were quite sad, but everything else made up for it. First, they do not offer breaded chicken here which is no big deal. I did not like that the noodles did not stick to the pasta sauce. It just kept slipping off of the meat sauce. I will be back to try other items. The drinks are cheap, but they aren't great. I had a hard time finishing the spritz. On a good end note, the bread was sooooo good. Hands down our favorite Italian in Hermosa. We love coming here for the casual family style vibe after a glass of wine at Uncorked. They charge a small corkage fee if you bring your own wine but they also have super reasonable wine prices there you can purchase. We've also done a couple different friends birthday dinners here and they are always so accommodating. My hands down favorite thing there is the pancetta pasta, it's soooo good we get it every time. My friend got the first slightly disappointing item I've seen here with the goat cheese fettuccine which came out surprisingly dry. Goat cheese normally spreads so well as a sauce in pasta so it was a little surprising that they just left the dry crumbles on top. Ate here with seven co-workers after work. Parking in the area was a challenge due to lack of available spaces (only street parking available). The atmosphere was great, casual, comfortable, Italian. The server was excellent, as was the food. The portions were big and the price was very reasonable. The anchovy (side order or add on) was far better than those found I a supermarket in cans. My only disappointment was the Cesar salad had grated cheese, not shaved as is customary, thus not even close to being as tasty as it normally would be and I'm used to enjoying. The flourless chocolate cake was warmed without my knowing it would be served that way and while it had a great chocolate taste, it was way too sweet for me. I rejected it after just a quick bite.
