Had a special dinner at Fruition tonight celebrating a birthday, and chose this restaurant for its usual excellence. But while the service was great, the food unfortunately was not great. Ordered the 24oz NY strip and after waiting an hour was served an undercooked tasteless piece of meat for $170!!! Dinners who arrived before us waited as long for their meals as we did ours. Servers patiently waiting for dishes gave me the impression of issues in the kitchen. I'll have to wait and give some consideration before returning, which is unfortunate as this was one of Denver's best. The day after posting this review, I was contacted by the manager who had spoken to us during the meal- she was gracious in her apology for the quality of our experience and professional in her acceptance of criticism and compensation. I've been here several times previously and always had a good experience. Sadly after my most recent visit changed that. The food was good, the service was good, and I don't have any particular complaints about the cost. However...I knew a 20% service charge would be added to the bill, but the website clearly says that no additional gratuity would be asked for or expected. Fine, we'd eaten here before under this policy, no problem at all. However when the bill was presented, the host clearly communicated that a further tip was expected, and the credit card reader indicates a 10% gratuity as standard. I consider my self a generous tipper, and I would happily pay more to ensure that my servers can earn a decent living wage. But this felt like I was being taken advantage of. Ambushing customers by asking for additional tips on top of their 20% service charge left me feeling angry and deceived and ruined what would have otherwise been a great experience. read more

The staff is gracious, the environment is warm and kind and the food is nothing short of spectacular . There is no doubt in my mind that their chef is a future James Beard award winner (so get a reservation now). We were visiting from out of town but will be back. My favorite restaurant period... I have been going in since Alex opened his doors. The service, food and atmosphere has not changed since day one. The best restaurant in Colorado and top ten in the country. On one night I went in for my birthday and Halibut was a special that night. I asked if the cheeks were still available.... Pleasantly surprised by this restaurant. Romantic atmosphere and the food tasted perfect as well as well executed. The oyster appetizer was very tasty, barramundi entre perfectly cooked in a tasty broth and the fruition panna cotta dessert was such a nice combination of flavors. My only wish was that they offered more dishes with no meat added to the broth or the fish itself. If I don't want to eat meat I should not have bacon in my scallops :) Also only one vegetarian entre that I saw in there, so if you're a vegan/vegetarian, your option is limited. read more

The ambiance is loverly, they offered a champagne birthday toast, and the food was delicious. We have had this restaurant on our list for a while, and decided to take my mom there for her 77th birthday. We noted on the reservation that she has food allergies. We have never been to a high end restaurant that refused to accommodate her allergies so I didn't think to call ahead. She was only able to eat one small appetizer off of the menu, and the chef refused to accomodate a wheat and dairy allergy, which are common allergies. How disappointing. We found the chef and waitstaff pretentious and unaccommodating. However, the sommelier was friendly and informative. read more

Fruition is a lovely place in Denver that was recommended by our local friend. We love the farm to table concept and the inventive dishes made from clean ingredients. Their wine list had a good variety. We enjoyed our meal outside and they accommodated our request to add a seat. Our server was fantastic and he had lovely suggestions. One star off for rudeness. We were outside, sitting at the table and a woman working here made it a point to come to our table and instead of welcoming us, she came to lecture us that if we dared to stand up from this table, that we had to wear a mask. The manner in which she spoke was unnecessary and set an uncomfortable tone for the meal. We go to dinner literally every week and it's very rare that someone makes it a point to speak that way. I will call them out on yelp when it does happen. Lighten up and smile. Be happy that people are out and about eating at your restaurant and not living their lives out of fear. We went here for my birthday and the food was AMAZING. Our favorite was the dessert (I uploaded a picture). Yes, the place is pricey and you definitely need to make reservations because its tiny and gets packed quick but I feel like it is worth it when celebrating something special. They have vegetarian options and also vegan options if you ask for them. They were so sweet in that they gave me a little birthday card saying thank you for choosing to spend my birthday with them at their restaurant oh and they even gave us complimentary drinks for the celebration. This restaurant is perfect for a special occasion, they will not let you down as the food is awesome and they have great customer service. After 9 years of coming here it's still amazing and delicious. Great service and atmosphere. Classics such as their carbonara and oysters Rockefeller are still on the menu: their new short rib dish (with beef tongue and marrow) was fantastic. New desserts such as their red velvet cake was good but something you can get anywhere else. Keep making those creative dishes but skip the simple desserts. Fruition used to be a jewel box of a restaurant, but no longer. First of all it doesn't pass the covid test. Servers are not wearing masks and the tables are not spaced properly. There is limited outdoor seating if you want the noise of cars zooming past and the smell of exhaust. There are two rooms: one large and the small room. We were seated in the small room and my chair was 6 inches from the occupied chair behind. The noise in the small, narrow room which leads to the kitchen. So there was constant traffic of unmasked servers going back and forth. The noise in the small room was deafening. The Fruition menu has always been limited. It listed 7 or 8 chefs. I will let you figure what that means. The dishes were either precious or pretentious or both. A chicken liver mousse was in a small jar with a sweet onion jam which was a heavy gelattionus layer on top of the mousse was served with grilled sourdough which had a burnt taste. It was served with a small wooden paddle. The dish was a conflict of flavors. My wife's Mellon&Cucumber salad with burrata, pistachios and burnt citrus was good according to her. A carbonara with pork belly was gummy, but tasty. Not a great carbonara, but passable. The halibut was properly roasted on top of a grilled bitter rapini. It was served with a couple of small dabs of lemon sabayon. Why not more sabayon??? Not a special dish by any means. My wife did not like the Scallops served with pork belly (?) and summer succotash. The best part of the dish was the succotash! The Lemon Bar dessert was the best dish of the evening. The service was a shadow of its former self. Not gracious like it used to be. These are hard times for the restaurant business, but service and good food are even more important than ever and our experience last evening does not justify Fruition does not bode for its servival. read more

It's taken me too long to finally get to Fruition for dinner. By the end of our meal, my husband was ready to make reservations for at least one meal each season (as it changes with the seasons). We weren't ready to commit to the chef's tasting menu, so we followed their advice with a starter, a salad, and an entree each. The dumpling with pork belly was excellent. Just a bite of food, but exquisite flavors. The shaved Brussels sprouts salad was bright and tasty. Their take on carbonara with pork belly and a six-minute egg was bursting with flavor. I love roast chicken, and this entree with kale and carrots was good. But then I tasted my husband's winter squash entree and he was declared the winner of the night. How does the chef make roasted squash taste like that? It was so packed with flavor that we ate it, skin and all with gusto. The accompanying freekeh grains (cooked as a "risotto") were also delicious. It's the kind of dish that makes meat-eaters say, "Maybe I could go vegetarian...." The lemon meringue pie was great. The lemon was a rich, tart curd topped with a dense meringue that seemed almost like marshmallow (in the best way) and lacked the foaminess that I normally dislike about meringue. Service was just the right amount of attentive without being obtrusive. They kept our wine chilled in the back (the restaurant is pretty small--cozy), but someone was always quick to refill our glasses before we needed to ask. It's not inexpensive, but I felt it was well worth every penny we paid. I look forward to more meals here. read more

We visited Fruition this past Sunday. It has always been a restaurant we visit for special occasions, because the food and experience are always hard to beat! Once again the food was absolutely spectacular. We did the tasting menu which is always fantastic. This time we tried something new and added the wine pairing and I have to say it took the meal to a whole new level. Their sommelier, Timothy, created the best wine pairing we have ever experienced. My husband and I have been to countless wine classes, tastings and dinners with pairings and yet Timothy managed to create a pairing that was simply unmatched by all of our other experiences. If you haven't tried Fruition yet, I absolutely recommend a visit and if you have visited them but haven't yet tried a wine pairing, trust me, it's well worth it. We were visiting Denver and wanted to try some of the high end restaurants. We actually came to Fruition because my wife heard an interview with Padma Lakshmi who mentioned the restaurant by name. We were not disappointed and ate six different dishes. Each one had an element of the season, early spring: ramps, peas, spring onions. In most of the pictures I am posting there is a green sauce with each dish. I assure you they are all different. This menu changes frequently so if I go into detail about a lot of the dishes it might not do you any good because they may not be around anymore. What is important to know is that the chefs here know how to cook their food properly and they know how to season their food. For those of you who frequent upscale restaurants often you know the difference between well-seasoned food and food that just doesn't quite hit the mark. Fruition is working the flavors at all levels; sweet, salt, acidity, and savory elements make their way into each of their dishes. Not only that, but our server was amazing. He makes a living from it, so he knows the food, knows the wine, and helped us pair them. read more

I had a very unpleasant experience at this restaurant. Pros: the ambiance is pleasant, warm and cozy, and the food and wine offerings are better than average for Denver. We had the duck pâté, crab salad, and octopus and they were competently executed. I would have personally wished for a more inventive and creative take on old standards, but that's a matter of personal preference. No complaints there. The service, however, was abysmal and most insulting. Our server was extremely pompous and rude. When asked for a recommendation on a dry wine, he stated that they're "all wet". When asked if there was beer on draught, he launched into an unprompted rant on draught beer not being appropriate for a restaurant specializing in wines. He also asked that all food be ordered up front as the "chef does not like incomplete orders". To say this server was a d-bag would be a gross understatement. He lost the plot on valuing the customer. To end the meal another member of the staff came by to state that now is "the billing portion". Am I at a dental office or a restaurant? Instead of presenting a printed check she came with a credit card reader with the itemized bill obscured and a 20% gratuity already pre-added. That's simply obnoxious. Service is a huge part of a dining experience. Poor service can result in a mediocre meal. Insulting and arrogant service that does not put the customer first can ruin a meal, and that's what happened in this instance. Will never step foot in here again, and would recommend that others stay away as well. read more

When I think of Fruition I t hink of excellent food & intimate dining in this small restaurant. At least I did until last week. My wife went & I went down on our anniversary as we often choose this restaurant to celebrate. Unfortunately, in their wisdom.the management filled the main room with a large, raucous table, which became more raucous the more they drank. To make things worse, the large group took most of the attention of waitstaff so we had to wait ten minutes to order a drink. Of course even with lousy service, there was a required tip added to the check. The food was excellent, as always but it was hard to enjoy since we couldn't hear each other from across the table due to the revelers behind us. Not exactly what you're hoping for when you're paying more than $200 for a meal. Very very disappointing. read more

When we were seating we were given special menus that said "Happy 2nd Anniversary" at the top which was a great touch. Our friend's last night in Denver and we chose Fruition for dinner. It's right across from a liquor store and a pho place. What a contrast from how and what Fruition is to these two establishments across. Fruition is classy. Cozy and packed! We were welcomed by a very warm but professional gentleman who gave us a nice little chat to start off. I went for the pork dish and I think was one of the best I've tried. It's nicely presented. Very pretty to look at and its packed with flavor in a subtle way. My plate had the color of just about everything. The greens were fresh, the vibrant prosciutto and who doesn't like a prosciutto as a sidekick to anything? But add that to this pork belly and my carnivore side was in heaven! The pork belly was definitely the star and everything just added a different level of flavors all around. I will describe this pork belly as tender and yet structured so I easily cut thru it like it's a warm stick of butter. Oh my! You have to try this! Awesome wine selections. Impeccable service. Romance is alive here by the way. It just oozes that in every way. It's the coziness? The bench outside? You will forget about the contrast across the street once you enter Fruition. read more

I really wanted to give Fruition five stars. It had been at the top of my list of places to try for a very long time. I was very excited, and I hoped it would live up to the hype. For the most part, it definitely did. The service here is excellent, and the space is intimate (but not quite crowded). Be sure to make your reservations far in advance. We split some appetizers. My taste of the Red Wine Braised Rabbit (Cauliflower Ravioli, Clamshell Mushroom Conserva, Braised Rabbit Pan Jus) was very good. It was tender and flavorful and wonderful. Many folks have raved about the Pasta Carbonara, and rightfully so. This is House-cured pork belly, hand-made cavatelli, a six minute egg, and parmesan broth. The amount of pasta is minuscule, but the flavors are enormous. The pork belly almost melted in my mouth as the parmesan broth and egg yolk (from a perfect egg) coated and delighted my palate. This dish was perfection. One note (however). It also came with a light splash of truffle oil (not mentioned in the description). This could definitely be a deal breaker for some truffle haters. I tasted some of the Pan Roasted Monkfish (Baby Artichoke Soubise, Brown Butter Salsify, Grilled Lobster Mushroom, Black Lentil Jus) and it was good. I am not a big fish fan, but the other items on the plate were all expertly prepared and provided layers of flavor. I also had a large piece of the Pan Roasted Diver Scallops (Toasted Fregola, Saffron Braised Fennel Fricassee, Grilled Octopus, Roasted Bell Pepper Rouille) and it was probably one of the best scallops I have ever eaten. I ordered the Maple Leaf Farms Duck Breast (Duck Confit & Potato Hash, Poached Asparagus, Preserved Meyer Lemon Hollandaise, Duck Crackling Salad). The waitress recommended medium-rare. I wish I had requested medium. The end pieces were exactly how I wanted it, but the middle was a little rare for my preference (this is more a textural than flavor thing). The bits of confit were firecrackers of flavor. The asparagus and hollandaise were a great counter point to the duck. It was extremely satisfying. Appetizers are in the $12 to $15 range. They are not that large of a serving, and if you share, you will only get a few tastes. The entrees are in the $27 to $28 range, and are a normal (if not overly generous) serving. So, this is why I am going with four, versus five stars. There was a whole lot of bang, but it definitely cost a whole lot of bucks as well. read more

Our server made really good food recommendations! The small bites are REALLY small. Like a single bite. In my opinion, not worth it. The Carbonara was literally the best I've been had! I would go back and just order a couple of those!! I'm not normally a tomato person, but fresh tomatoes with the goat cheese sauce were simply delicious and refreshing. Only getting 3 scallops for $30 is a little small, but they were truly fantastic. I enjoyed the variety of items served with the scallops. For example, sweet potato tortellini. An unexpected yet pleasant surprise to my palate. The flavor of the duck was overall great, yet the skin could have been more crispy. On a recent trip to Denver, I allowed myself to pick one pricier restaurant and judging from all the positive reviews, I knew Fruition had to be it. One pleasant surprise was that this restaurant is listed in the $$$$, but after just glancing at the menu, it looks to be in the $$$ range. Lesson: don't just look at the dollar signs, even Yelp can be wrong! My party and I arrived on time for our reservation and our table was waiting for us near the entrance of this quaint, charming restaurant. The atmosphere is definitely romantic and you absolutely have to make reservations. Being near the entrance, we spotted many patrons arriving for their reservation and having to wait to the side or outside as their tables were not yet ready. I'd imagine without reservations it's near impossible to get seated. There are plenty of servers for this tiny restaurant, but our server was a bit slow and times and seemed slightly distracted, which is odd for such a small restaurant. Other than that, no complaints on the service. We ordered a couple of appetizers: the Chesapeake Bay Softshell Crab and the Pasta Carbonara. The crab was spectacular. The combination of quinoa, chayote squash & citrus salad, young radish, and goat's milk yogurt is the perfect combination of tart and smooth flavors that really burst in your mouth. In addition to the fried crab, the entire dish is a melody of flavors and textures that just seem perfectly paired alongside each other. You must try this dish! The carbonara is also delicious, however, the hand-made cavatelli is thick and a bit different than what I expected. For my main, I ordered the Maple Leaf Farms Duck Breast, and on this seasonal menu, it was served in a chicken and dumplings inspired broth, complete with dumplings and a light soup base. I didn't care much for the broth and less for the dumplings, but the duck itself was fantastic and the dish was flavored well. One of best Denver can offer. Innovative, farm to table, great wine selections. My wife is gluten intolerant and they helped us with unlimited supplies of most delicious gluten free bread on the planet, couldn't had enough of them. Amazing gazpacho, surprisingly tangy, very intelligently done, sad the portion was very small. If you had only one place to dine in when visiting Colorado then make sure it's Fruition! No wonder I found the earliest reservation for a Saturday night to be three weeks in advance. The place is totally worth it. Also the tables are crammed close to each other so you should be comfortable sitting pretty close to other guests. You can choose whether to get a tasting menu or choose from the menu itself. We felt less adventurous that night and decided to make our own choices. The actual menu is divided into three parts. The first column list "bites" dishes, these are dishes that you would consume with a bit or two. The middle column is the appetizer. And the last column is the main dish. A good portion is to choose one from each column. We started with Alaskan King Crab and the Blossom squash. The crab was good but the squash was the better "bite". For appetizer we went with the Heirloom Tomatoes, Gnudi and the Spanish Octopus. The Heirloom Tomato's was light and good. Our favorite was the Gnudi, the combination of the cheese, sauce and the lamb was extraordinary. The Spanish Octopus was also delicious as well. For the main dishes we went with the duck and the steak. The duck was a bit unusual given it included baklava pistachio! But the ingredients combination made it work and was extraordinary. The steak was also perfect. Finally we had a happy ending with a brownie. Enjoyed its texture with the peanut butter ice cream and the strong caramel sauce! Wait; how have I not been here before? Everything was so tasty, and the care and attention given to each table was so lovely. We celebrated our anniversary here as we wanted to try something "local, special and delicious", and Fruition delivered. We shared the sourdough bread and little gems vinaigrette to start, and I wish I didn't share the little gems. It was so incredible I could've eaten it on my own times ten. Entrees included the Porkchop and the Summer Squash Risotto. The porkchop was cooked perfectly, but it was a porkchop; nothing to write home about. The creamed corn that accompanied it brought it to another level, that made the porkchop what it is. The favorite of the table was the risotto. It was cooked just right, a little al dente, but velvety at the same time. I chose to add prawns which helped round out the dish. For dessert we chose the Panna Cotta, and while it was really good with the palisade peaches and oat crumble, I wish we had gone with our server's recommendation and ordered the Lemon Meringue. Would I come back? Yes. Ambiance alone makes this neighborhood spot cozy enough for a rainy weeknight dinner, elevated enough for a special occasion, but the presentation, food and service sets it apart from others. read more

We felt pressured to order more items off the menu before they even told us what our fixed menu would be. While the service was good, there was a gentleman who came to our table at the end to ask for payment and he asked for my credit card without letting me see the BILL. When I asked to see the bill, he was pretentious and condescending. I asked what the 20% addition was for and he said "don't you want our employees to have a better cost-of-living?" When I asked if this was a tip, He said "It's to ensure they have a better cost of living". He said this in front of the entire table condescendingly and asked me what additional tip I would like to leave for my server. We shall not return. read more
