A group of friends and I came here since it was a 3hr wait for a table of 11 at hometown hotpot. They said it'll be a 20 minutes wait. My friend and I went to a nearby cafe for some coffee/tea while we wait for our table and the rest of our party to show up. There are a few good things but too many flaws that I highly doubt I'll ever come back here again. Service was sub par, you really have to wave them down to get things. They wouldn't really come around to check up on things. The people are nice, just not attentive. This place is quite small, but they make do with what they have. The sauce station is in the back, near the kitchen area. They also do barbecue skewers and some kitchen dishes, which were mostly fried food. My party and I came here for hotpot. So this isn't an all you can eat place, just be aware that every item is a charge. To begin, each pot you require for hotpotting is $15. Depending on which food item you order, there is a different pricing for each. They wanted to be different, most of the hotpot items come in skewers. So, you can just toss each skewer into the pot. It does seem different and new but I still prefer the regular way of hotpotting. Items such as fishballs range is pricing $.50-$1 each skewer. I assumed each skewer would be a few fishballs. NOPE! One fishball, on one skewer. Such a waste of the use of skewers. Definitely not worth coming. This can easily bring your bill up. In the end, the price is much more expensive compared to the other hotpot places that is all-you-can-eat. Hotpot broth isn't much either. There are far better hotpot places in the area. There is one pro: They have charging ports at every dining table for people to charge their phones. Available for androids and iPhones. read more

Came with my vegetarian friends and they have vegetarian options. The hotpot base was on point. The veggies were garden fresh. The fried tofu skin was interesting. Been here several times already, first time eating their non-hot pot food. I really like the fruit rice pudding, it's very refreshing and sweet. There are oranges, chicken feet, and edamame free of service (as much as you want) every time you visit which is a plus. The foods are okay. I love the hot pot and BBQ skewers. The price is not that bad either. So my friend and I decided to come back here for the second time. We ordered a few BBQ skewers and ice rice. But then they served an additional fried rice, which we did not order. When we confronted with the waiter, she wrote down one order of the fried rice on our ordering menu so it became "our fault" for ordering the additional rice. We didn't want to waste our time arguing with the waiter so we ended up paying for the extra rice. I definitely wouldn't go back to this restaurant again. Came here on a Friday night. Casual place for friends to gather. No line at 6:30 but the place filled up pretty quickly starting from 7. They don't take reservations. Accept one credit card only per table. We did all skewers. Portions were pretty generous (esp in comparison to Japanese BBQ skewers). We got four of everything we ordered because there were four of us, but actually no need to do that. It was totally on to share one skewer if you just want to try the flavor and you can always add more. The skewers are all barbecued and flavored with the same or similar sauce. The honey chicken wings and beef tender were my favorite. Bacon mushroom was also delightful! Lamb and chicken gizzard ones were a bit dry. Others were just average. It is pretty cheap place. We had way more than enough and it was about $25 per person. Would come back when crave for BBQ and also want to try out their other stuff. read more

I have came here a few times. The broth is good and they had an all you can eat BBQ and hotpot, but I literally had to walk out on them yesterday in the beginning of my dinner. I offered to give them back $10-20, but they had no words to say. Not even a sorry. They first sent me downstairs where they put us at a 4 seater table. Apparently this is a place Andrew would love because he's from Chongqing and this place serves spicy food. The spicy soup is not spicy at all: not only can't he feel any spicy flavor, neither do I. Full disclosure: I was born in Beijing and I don't like spicy food, but ironically I like their spicy soup. So, for people who don't like spicy food but want a little bit red in your food, this place is the right place to come! I'd give a 4.5 rating on their Chinese medicine soup. It's great that this place closes late. Not great that this was my only choice on a weekday evening. I had some barbecue sticks and some appetizers. My beef tongue came out spoiled, it had a sour funk to it and I brought it to the attention of one staff member. She tried different excuses and cover ups. Her instant reply was that I did not know what beef tongue is. I order and eat beef tongue everywhere I go, I know what beef tongue is. Then she comes back later to say "maybe you don't like the flavor the beef tongue cook in", yes flavor can alter the integrity of the tongue, I agree but spoiled meat is spoiled meat. An ingredient like beef tongue has to be fresh. How about come with an apology instead? I did not expect much, I just expect the beef tongue to be taken off the bill. Came here tonight (Monday night) with a friend. The restaurant had plenty of room when we got there (6:15pm). We were solely interested in skewers, so hotpot is not at all covered in this review. They offer all you can eat for $28, which is a bit steep for sure, but after doing some rough calculations, we decided that it would be worth it. I wouldn't call this a mistake, but I would not recommend getting AYCE. To quickly summarize, I think the marginal utility gained from eating more meat at the end of your AYCE journey starts getting very negative towards the end, at least, enough so for me that I was considering giving this place 3 stars. I'm the type of person who really tries to maximize AYCE by overstuffing, so maybe that's a "me" problem. In any case, I would strongly recommend pacing yourself, maybe getting a bunch of stuff first and seeing what you like, and then go all in on what you really enjoyed. All the skewers are pretty cheap, so you definitely have room to explore. Our first round of AYCE orders had some really great highlights, stuff I'd definitely come back here for, but sadly, my experience is a bit marred from my body starting to reject my final bites by telling me to stop. Sorry if that sounds a bit extreme, but really, the spice and BBQ flavor can get overwhelming when it's truly time to stop. Some tips if you're going to get BBQ: remember that more spice = more water, and the pancakes, while great, are definitely a bait to fill up room in your stomach. Anyway, we got a pretty wide range of things. I'd recommend the lamb/beef (I actually was surprised by the beef in a good way), octopus balls, sausage, chicken skin, squid, and straw mushrooms (enoki). Everything more out there is pretty much what you'd expect... just BBQ-flavored (I'm talking about things like tripe, omasum, gizzards, etc.). They let you choose among low/medium/high spice (I personally don't think high spice is crazy), and they also provide you with cumin and hot pepper for you to put on yourself, so you have a lot of control over the flavor. However, I would have liked the option to moderate doneness. I really felt like a lot of things could have used a bit more char or smokiness. After a while, things just started tasting the same... all this sort of sweetish BBQ flavor (kind of like Chinese sausages?). At the end of the day, it's probably best for you to sample for yourself and figure out what you like. Hard to go really wrong I think. Lastly, really great service, especially for a place in Chinatown. They were super good about refilling orders, and all the servers were very easy to flag down. They do pace you a bit, but it's probably for your own benefit. read more

Note that the all you can eat for 2 hrs option (~$20) is separate for BBQ and hot pot, and ($31) for both. We found out after the fact when we got raw skewers to be cooked in the hotpot even though we thought they were BBQ skewers and decided to opt for the combo price. There are free appetizers in the back that are self-serve. We got crawfish and chicken feet that day, which were a bit salty. It took a while to get the order in for round 1 but they were pretty fast with the hotpot (which is on a gas stove on the table). Ingredients are ok but not as fresh as ones at the popular places. The broth is also not as flavorful. The BBQ skewers were hit or miss. Potato was bland, chicken gizzard was good, beef tongue was like card board, and chicken wing was so fried that you can't get the meat out. read more

I am a big fan of Korean BBQ and was excited to bring my forever for date night. I surprised him since he never had Korean BBQ and he enjoyed every bit of it. This was different than usual, instead of me bbq the food, we chose what we wanted and they took it to the back to bbq. It's a cheap date, and a way to try new culture/ new things. They do offer hot pot there as well, if you do want to cook your own food. The food came out quick after we put in our order. As we were eating, they made sure that they took any dirty plates, we had different servers checked on us to make sure we were okay. What I loved the most was that our server who welcomed us was very patient with us. He also made sure we gave everything a try, and asked us if we were allergic prior to suggesting it. The place has an upstairs and downstairs. Both upstairs and downstairs were very clean, and the bathrooms! 2.5 stars, rounded down. If you order all you can eat (AYCE), please be aware that you only have 1.5 hours, or 90 minutes to finish your meal. The clock is ticking! It seems like people are pretty mixed in their opinion of this joint (an AYCE hot pot/ BBQ place), but my experience was positive overall. I visited on thanksgiving evening when the wait wasn't too long, maybe about 25 minutes overall, so I was especially thankful that I was able to get dinner somewhere outside without having to make reservations. God bless Chinese dining establishments. After being seated, we were brought two sheets of paper. One sheet is for ordering barbecued items on a skewer, the other is for the hot pot. I was confused initially, so make sure you understand this right off the bat. Jumping into the mechanics of ordering: you have to be careful how you order. For instance, I was looking at the menu- specifically the hot pot order form. I saw that there was a "spam" order option, and so I circled it thinking that they would deliver a plate of spam, something that was big enough for two people to share. However, when they eventually brought the order, they literally brought A SINGLE PIECE OF SPAM. Literally one slice, on a wooden stick. I would have taken a photo of it since it was so funny, but I guess in the hilarity of the moment I forgot. So yes, one order of spam only gets you one slice, so you have to be aware of this when you place orders. I'm not sure if when you circle it, you can add a x5 option by writing it in next to the circle; the rule of thumb here is that when you place an order, unless you state to the waiter otherwise, expect your order to be very small. Of course, this is just one of the many tactics used by AYCE establishments to slow your rate of ordering, in order for you to get full while eating as slow as possible. The hope, of course, is that they are able to run out the clock. Yet, despite this, I thought this place was charming and had acceptable service. Plus, almost every kind of AYCE establishment does this to some extent, so I aint even mad. The hot pot and barbecue is pretty good for the price that you pay. The service is a little slow, but not as slow as some places that I've been to, which purposely delay your orders since technically this is an all you can eat place. So, I appreciated that. Everyone I observed eating here seemed to be having a good time, and I guess I did too. $26 per person, which for two people, came out to about $60~ after tax and tip. First of all, you can pig out here if you are really hungry and the good thing is this won't break your bank. So that's a big plus. This place is also good for a group of no more than 6 to hang out and eat at the same time. The store has some what trendy decors but really lacks character and practicality. For instance --- the tables are way too high, like up to your chest. After putting the hotspot on the table you wonder are you supposed to be sitting on a counter stool. It's not comfortable to sit and eat. The dark red and black color scheme doesn't make you feel welcomed. The sauce table is all the way at the back, at a very sad, tight space, high traffic area, which seemingly feel like an after thought to put up. You will have to watch your back when you get your sauces because there's hotspots coming thru behind you, literally. The food -- it's okay. You can order whatever you want. For hotspot all you can eat you get a piece of paper and fill out how many order of each item you would like. The food comes on sticks. And yet we were placed to share a table. )The staff walked by many times and nobody care to check on us. We finally asked them what happened to our food. They made up a reason that their computer broke down. Let me tell you everyone else got their food, someone forgot to put the order in! Well... not acceptable! When the food finally came. The person who brought the food was too lazy to walk around the table so she just slide the plates from on end over. Came here when a bunch of the all you can eat hot pot places were super packed. For a party of four, we waited for about 15 minutes. Everything was pretty good especially the baked clams (with lots of garlic!), lamb, beef skewers, green beans and fish balls! Though it seems like they used they same seasoning (blend of cumin, salt and pepper?) for every skewer. Still, it was nice that they had a good selection of dipping sauces. Despite the other reviews, everyone I spoke with here spoke in English and they definitely understood me even when I had a complaint. The staff is fast and food comes out fast but there needs to be a better system for communicating setting up the table. My hot pot came out before the hot plate, so the server was standing there with a pot of hot soup for a hot minute before someone got the gas grill for him to put the pot on. Also the food all came out at once, with no room on our table for everything. They servers could clearly see how packed our table was but continued to bring food out, we just threw everything in the pot to make room. I know, it's a weird thing to complain about because food is usually slow but I don't like that I don't have room to put my plate down and eat. The food quality was decent, as was the soup. It's definitely fun and quite the experience to hot pot with skewers which I have never seen in Chinatown before. I will definitely be returning because I did enjoy my experience here and love eating off of sticks. Came here based on a friend's recommendation for their lunch special! You basically pick what kind of soup base you want and they throw in all sorts of ingredients in a large bowl for less than $8! I got the beef noodle soup so, in addition to the typical noodles and beef, there was bok choy, quail eggs, and oily tofu. The soup was savory and not overly salty. My friends who ordered the spicy lamb soup had lotus roots, quail eggs, seaweed, glass noodles, and other ingredients in theirs. For the price of all you can eat hot pot, it isn't too shabby. They have a good amount of choices ranging from vegetables, to the traditional thinly sliced beef and even soft shell crab. We tried to get the wait staff's attention just to get a menu and it took about 20 minutes. When you order the skewers, be mindful they are one per order, so if you're ordering 1 fish tofu, it will come as 1 fish tofu cut in half and put on a skewer. We ordered about 15 different things and all of it came out before we had any soup base. My friends and I sat there for a while before our waitress realized we had no pot to hot pot in. They only have three soup bases: diet, spicy and clear. Not a review on the restaurant but one thing I noticed about this place that was different from other hot pot places I've been to is that customers eat and leave very quickly.
