I was having a pizza craving and the usual place I go to was closed on Tuesdays so I decided to try Fuoco. I placed my order over the phone ordering my usual- a small red pie light baked. I also asked for extra grated cheese. Not mozzarella but the grated cheese that comes on top of a red pie. I was never told extra grated cheese was an extra cost. When I arrived my total was $15 when the menu says a small red pie is $12. When I asked why it's $15, I was told bc of the extra pecorino. Really? An extra charge of $3 for grated cheese??? There is not a single pizza place in New Haven (including the very popular ones) or Cheshire I have been to that charges anything for extra grated cheese on a red pie, let alone 3 bucks. However, I do understand that different establishments have different rules so I'm not annoyed with the extra charge, I'm annoyed at the amount and that it was not told to me when I ordered. I do not know how a $3 charge for grated cheese is justifiable. How does grated pecorino cost the same as adding meat? And if you are going to charge that much, that should have been communicated when the order was placed. A simple "that will be an extra" would've gone a long way. When I brought this to the cashier's attention when I picked up my order and told her that I wouldn't have gotten the extra pecorino had I known it was $3 (in other words, that was my polite way of saying you should have told me that), there were no apologies, only a dry "it's already been made." Ok no problem. That being said, I did enjoy the pizza. But I'll stick to my usual place when in Cheshire. Unfortunately, had the customer service here been better, I would've returned despite the extra charge. Kindness goes a long way. read more

I don't often drive 80 miles round trip for a pizza, but I was pretty confident that Fuoco Apizza was going to be a Winner. And it was. Fuoco is on par with the Best in New Haven. I ordered a large traditional mozzarella, so I could better gauge the quality of the pie. It was pizza perfection, the crust had the right chew, and the char was to my liking. The pizza was more square then round, filling up the entire box (see my pic). It was all Top Notch, they know Apizza at Fuoco's. Nice ambiance, very relaxed vibe and super clean. Not a ton of seating inside. We got super lucky that someone had just left so we squeezed in. We were dining with our toddler and they appeared to only have 1 high chair that was already occupied. Luckily our child was in a good mood and sat nicely in the booth with us. It is tight though so I can see having several high chairs creating a problem. You order at the counter and they bring your food out to you. Simple menu which I appreciate - it's better to master a small menu in my opinion. Everyone was super friendly and keeping busy. We had a New Haven style, a mozzarella and our friends ordered a sausage, cheese and eggplant. The sausage was excellent. The secret is definitely in their sauce - it was incredible. The crust was crisp and the pizza was really good overall. We got the dough bites which were ok - I found them to be super dense, I like them more light and fluffy. (But let's be real - we went there for their pizza, not dough bites.) It is a BYOB - just a heads up so you come prepared. The location is tiny and the entrance is one way and easy to miss, so keep your eyes peeled! Inside is quite small and can be a bit challenging to find a table when it's busy. Imagine you're in the pizza business with your family since 10 years old. You open your own pizzeria in 2020, during the difficult business environment of the Pandemic. And you're absolutely killing it. Well known CT Bloggers, Foodies and Pizzaphiles sing your praises. Say you're one of the best. Their favorite. So much so, that people 30 minutes away like me know they need to visit ASAP for terrific Coal Fired New Haven Style Apizza. Now imagine, that it literally all burns down. That is the true story of George Constanti and Fuoco Apizza. That December 28, 2021 fire could have been the end, but luckily for everybody, George is not that guy. Fuoco Apizza is back as of January 2023. Fuoco is presently open for online takeout orders, although they also allow self-service dine in. I had planned to visit Fuoco shortly before the fire. The way people spoke about Fuoco, you just knew it was that good. Over one year later, and I have now had my chance to visit. Fuoco is every bit that good. I ordered an 18 inch "Money Hots", with pepperoni, sausage, long hot peppers, cherry peppers, Romano, mozzarella, hot honey and red sauce. The crust is as good as any of the greats' New Haven Style crust. Thin. The right mix of crisp and chewy. Good char. Up to the job of holding the toppings. Legit great crust. For me, what separates the absolute best pizzerias from the very good ones, is the sauce. I loved Fuoco's red sauce. Probably my favorite NHS place in terms of sauce flavor and quantity. Good mix of sweet and acidic. So great. I liked the Money Hots pizza a lot, but the flavor profile is so strong, that the toppings are not going to be for everyone, every time. The peppers are fairly hot. Not oppressively so, but I felt the sting in my mouth and in my stomach for a while afterwards. The pepperoni and the sausage were high quality and perfect. Given the heat of the peppers, the Honey Drizzle was a good idea for balance. If you like great pizza, and supporting fighters who have been tested and prevailed, you need to visit Fuoco Apizza ASAP. Overall the New Haven tomato pie pizza was good. The sauce, olive oil and pecorino was good. The crust was very good. However the Clams on the white clam pizza were extremely chewy. The service counter/table set up was almost cafeteria style. I would say that the pizza itself was very good. But the inside was not really conducive for eating in. I would put it a notch below Zuppardis and Milestone but it was good. read more

Fuoco holds the top 2024 spot for pizza for me. I can't believe it took me so long to review this place but I tried so many different pizzas here for a work celebration and all of the choices were spot on. The crust was cooked so perfectly and the sauce was perfect on each and every pizza. I have been following along on Fuoco's Instagram page for the past 6+ months. I have been DYING to try it. We live in the town next door but just really haven't had the chance to go. When writing a pizza review - I hate to do it on take-out because quality unfortunately changes (IMO) when you're not eating it straight out of the oven. I dropped my son off for a birthday party a few miles away and had 2 hrs to kill - why not try it?! I always try a cheese pizza first when trying a new pizza place. It tells me everything I need to know about whether I'll come back to try others. The restaurant is a small narrow space. They have parking in the back. There are about 6 small tables. Actually - bigger than I thought it would be. I ordered a small cheese pizza. Got there about 10 mins sooner than they said it'd be ready. It was waiting for me. Still hot as I got out to the parking lot and lifted the cover. First impression: Irregularly shaped and far thicker than I wanted to see. It was thicker in some areas and thinner in other areas. The dough was sort of mushy - definitely not thin and crispy like I was hoping it would be (until it got super close to the crust and even then - the crunchiness was odd). The taste: it was good. The pie tasted decent. The cheese was delicious. The sauce was fine - nothing really special but tasted good. The flavor of the dough was really good but the consistency of the dough wasn't quite perfect. It was a bit of a miss for me. It doesn't mean I won't be back to try a large with toppings to see if it's better but at a 20 min drive from home - I'm not sure I'll become a regular. read more

I haven't gone out for a GOOD pizza in a long time. There has been a lot of hype over Fuoco Apizza so I was excited to finally check them out. They are conveniently close by from my work too. Don't know why I haven't been by sooner. Fuoco has really set the bar high with their coal-fired pizza. The pizza is slightly and perfectly charred (or burnt) that it elevates the flavor. The crust was not too crunchy and the bottom wasn't soggy from the sauce. We went simple with our pie choices: Original Mozzarella, Margherita, and The New Haven. What makes it The New Haven pizza? It's a classic tomato pie with crushed tomato sauce, garlic, oregano, olive oil, pecorino. The sauce, cheese and spices lived up to the hype. A few months back, Dave Portnoy of Barstool Sports visited Fuoco and gave them a 8.5 one bite review. If you follow his pizza ratings--that is very high. The pizza, in my opinion, was some of the best New Haven style. I liked that the cheese didn't slide off with a single bit and I did not kill the roof of my mouth (iykyk). It's probably the best pizza around without traveling into New Haven and the best pizza local to Cheshire. Next time we will kick it up a notch and try pies with toppings. It's is a great casual lunch spot with a small indoor dining area and a nice outdoor patio to enjoy on beautiful days. Besides pizza, the menu includes salads, sandwiches, appetizers, wings and desserts. They carry Foxon Park soda... The birch beer is an absolute staple! I love that the menu is simple and not overly complicated. You order at the counter that looks into the kitchen then you choose your seat. The staff were very friendly and the pizza comes out very quick. The pizzas came out at different times because they were pulling the directly from the coal fire oven. The restaurant was not busy either for lunch, but they had a lot of takeout orders. Anyway, if you are a pizza lover, put Fuoco Apizza on your list. read more

The perfect balance of garlic, fresh basil, fresh mozzarella and a clean simple sauce... the crust though! So thin and crispy, that coal fired goodness in every bite! Counter service was prompt. Place is clean with casual ambiance, lost of parking with only 7 tables inside. We tried the mashed potato and bacon white pizza, meatza red pizza with added spinach and the Philly eggs rolls. Egg rolls are delicious, greasy and served with chipotle cream sauce. Pizza was greasy and a bit bland. Crust very nice with a good char. The white pie was skimpy on the bacon and added both salt and red pepper and would have added garlic if I could. This is just about as equivalent to Sally's with far better prices and hands-down better service. Decided to look at Dave Portnoy's review of this place and drove 45 mins for a large cheese pizza. First off the restaurant is so nice and clean inside, very modern inside and they also have outdoor seating. The manager was so nice and pleasant when I went in to pick up my order. Excellent service! Now about the pizza- me and my friend ate a slice each right away in the car to get the true experience like Dave. It was delicious. I tried not to set myself up and was thinking I'd be happy if it was just ok. Well it was really good and I love pizza - I've tried Sally's, Frank Pepe's, Modern and a few other ones that were rated very high and this can stand proud next to them. read more

Fuoco's serves up the best pizza I've had in Cheshire and is a decent representation of New Haven style pizza. As always, whenever I come to Connecticut I have to get pizza and Fuoco's was next on the list to try. I ordered a cheese pizza. Pizza was cooked to spec, crust was good, had good quality cheese and the sauce was OK. Overall, while it was a decent pizza, I thought it was a little meh. The cheese lacked the saltiness I'm used to and the cheese to sauce ratio was off. It doesn't come close to the flavor and execution of the other new haven style pizza places. It's good option if you're in town, but I would not go out of my way for it. I like that they have indoor and outdoor seating and the online ordering process was simple + easy. I hate to do this because it's hard to go against Portnoy but, this was not an elite pie. The crust was pure mush about 85% of the way through until some crisp began to kick in at the very end. As a native of the New Haven area, that's not how our pizza is supposed to work. The cheese and sauce quality were excellent. I suspect this was a case of bad execution rather than bad design. Had they cooked it a few more minutes, this might be a very different review. Unfortunately, you don't get a second chance to make a first impression. If you've read any of my reviews, you know I'm a complete pizza snob. There's the Holy Trinity in New Haven: Sally's, Pepes, and Modern, and then there's everything else. But in that list of everything else you have to consider Fuoco's near the top. It's a small place with only five tables. Beautiful char to their crust from a real fired oven. None of that Blodgett gas-oven nonsense. Really tasty sauce. Fresh toppings. One of the best pies I've ever had outside of New Haven. Oh, man I wanted to like this more than I did. Not to say it isn't good pizza. But for those of you who follow my pizza list, you know my heart belongs to Sallys apizza in New Haven. I certainly don't expect any pizza to be Sally's. But IMO that's the bar for me. I prefer coal fired Pizza. We tried the New Haven style with mozz. I found that the cheese to sauce ratio was not equal, but the cheese buttery. But tomato sauce definitely lacked tang. I'm always hoping, but RARELY receive, that perfectly tangy tomato sauce flavor that Sally's has mastered but is never matched. The crust certainly had some crunch and the undercarriage did also which is good. The chart was nicely represented. It was on the dryer side, and just overall neither of us were excited about it. I really feel that they are an ambitious crew giving it 100%. They do a tremendous take out business. Service is awesome. Dining in maybe fits 15 people. Fuoco is a small pizza place that makes wood fire pizza. I have always passed by but never had the chance stop by and my Yelp friends said the pizza was delicious. I finally got the chance to stop by and I ordered a small bacon and half cheese pizza and sweet heat wings. The wings were delicious and crispy. They had the right crunch and fried to perfection. The pizza was good and the crust was crispy but the when I ate the bacon slices, the bacon was to well done and I had to hold the pizza with two hands because the undercarriage of the dough was not crispy enough. Great New Haven style pizza. After hearing good things about Fuoco's Pizza we decided to try it. We started with a Cyprus Garden Salad. Plenty of salad for three of us to share. I am very glad I finally had a chance to stop in Fuocos. They have delicious New Haven Style Pizza with the perfect amount of char. During my visit I ordered a pepperoni pizza (my favorite topping) which was so good and fresh; I nearly finished the whole pizza by myself. Currently, they have a temporary menu as they are seasoning their coal oven (they previously experienced a fire and recently reopened). In addition to red and white pizzas, they also offer salads, wings, dough bites, mozzarella sticks, and egg rolls. The establishment is BYOB, but I love that they carry Foxon Park Sodas. You can dine in or take out. Seating is limited, but available. When you arrive, pull into the driveaway on the right, there is a parking lot. read more

This had become my family's #1 place for pizza in town the short time that it was open before the fire. I knew we had to go back as soon as it re-opened. The pizza was as fabulous as it was before! I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of Fuoco pizzas. Ingredients were fresh and very tasty. Great sauce with sweet sausage and peppers added good level of heat. Very solid pizza. No pics on this trip because it was gone before I knew it lol but I will return for more pizza and pics. Very small dining area and no alcohol served. Foxon park soda offered. Tried out Fuoco Apizza in Cheshire for the first time tonight. My wife and I have been hearing great things about their coal-fired pizza for a while. We scanned the menu and decided to go with a large Burrata and a large Soppressata pie. As of this writing, they are take-out only for COVID safety reasons. You're not even allowed to enter the pizzeria. We gave a description of our vehicle when we called in the order. Within minutes of arriving, they brought our pizzas out to the car. Upon arriving at home, we tried the soppressata first. The crust was super-thin, decent amount of char, and oh so crispy. The sauce was delicious! The meat added a little saltiness, but it was balanced out by the sweetness from the Mike's Hot Honey. Great pie! But the real winner for us was the Burrata pie. The combo of Burrata, prosciutto and balsamic glaze is just heavenly. We both give Fuoco Apizza our seal of approval. We'll definitely be back, and we look forward to eating inside! read more
