Great experience! We went for lunch and chose to sit under the covered outdoor patio, but the space is so large there are tons of seating options and all were available. Split a few dishes, I would say the mango sticky rice and lemongrass chicken skewers were the stars of the lunchtime show. Service was great and explained the menu and spice level well. Would definitely go back to try more of the menu!
I start with my one regret lol which was paying for parking - if you are willing to walk like five minutes, there's free street parking to be found near the famous cathedral/basilica nearby. Either way, the food was good and we had a delightful lunch here. The drunken udon was flavorful (I do love udon) and the basil wings were flavorful and crispy. Lowkey the fried veggie garnishes that came with the basil wings were even better, which is not a dig at the wings but a testament to they seasoned and fried those garnishes so well. The dole whip was a pretty green color but a skip for us (and my boyfriend has a sweet tooth / loves a sweet drink aka a piña colada but found this whatever). It's also very cute in here and we chose to eat upstairs which was a lovely vibe.
Nice location near Loring Park. Trendy spot, reservations probably a must. Parking could be a challenge as it's limited to a small lot and street. Staff were sweet, food was delicious. We weren't aware that random dishes would just come out when they're done, which was fine, just new to us.
Wow exceptional dining experience. This is my first time in Minneapolis and I have to point out how impressed I am by the quality and diversity of food here. Our friend from Minneapolis recommended this place and I am so happy he did. Everything we ordered was a hit - our favorites including the basil wings, fried rice, laab and khao poon gai. The spice here is real and we definitely leaned in. Everything was so flavorful and fresh and I am so happy we shared everything. It was a great time. We sat upstairs and had a great view of the park. Service was great. Everyone's moods seemed so high especially on Monday. Highly recommend to go with your food friend(s) and try a little of everything!
If you're only ordering one bowl at Gai Noi, make it the Khao Soi. The Khao Soi is everything you want in Northern Thai comfort food--rich coconut curry broth with just the right amount of spice, incredibly tender chicken, silky rice noodles, and a fresh cabbage slaw that adds the perfect crunch. A squeeze of lime brightens the whole bowl and keeps every bite balanced. What I love most is how layered the flavors are. It's creamy, savory, a little spicy, and somehow still feels light enough that you keep going back for another bite. Gai Noi continues to prove why it's one of the Twin Cities' best restaurants, and this dish is a perfect example of why. This is the kind of bowl you'll be craving before you even leave the restaurant.
Went here when it first opened and I thought it was ok Gave it another chance since they've had a few years to improve. Dont get me wrong this was good but I was not as impressed as I feel like most people are. Nothing had a large amount of packed flavor and was all one noted flavor. Service was ok but it wasn't busy when we went and they didn't really check on us much.
I was in Minneapolis for a work conference three weeks ago. My colleagues and I enjoyed our last sit-down dinner at Gai Noi. This was my foodie destination dinner spot. I'd read about the restaurant and wanted to try a few of their Laotian dishes on the menu. We ordered a bunch of dishes and ate family style so we could try a little of everything. Below is what we ordered as a group: -- Crispy Pork Belly (this was a hit at the table) -- Laab Seen with Sticky Rice (like a meat salad - I liked this a lot) -- Mok Paa (steamed white fish in banana leaf - aromatics off the charts good) -- Peanut Noodles -- Lemongrass Chicken Skewers (thumbs up) -- Pad See Ew (thai fav of one colleague) -- Yellow Curry with Chicken & Jasmine Rice -- Mango Cremeux (always leave room for dessert - light and tasty) If you dine here, please be aware that there is an 18% Service Charge that is added to all orders. 100% of this charge is paid to the service team as additional wages.
I had the most incredible Lao/Thai dishes today. Definitely might've been the best calamari I've ever had in my life. The squid was very fresh and it was not robbery or not chewy it was literally the perfect texture. I absolutely love the pad Thai here. It is so delicious. It does not come with protein and there's no protein option. It just comes as with the eggs, scallions and bean sprouts. I can't wait to come back here and try the fried tofu and some of the other skewers. There's only metered parking in this area. The parking lot next to the restaurant is not their parking lot. It is a pay lot only. The service was spectacular, very attentive and not too pushy. The interior is very dark small it does have an upstairs however I dined at the bar in the main room main entrance.
One of my favorite spots for Lao and Thai food. The flavors here are incredibly unique, every dish feels thoughtful and packed with authenticity. The atmosphere is just as impressive as the food -- the upstairs dining room and patio are filled with lush greenery and offer amazing views that make the whole experience feel special. Everything comes out beautifully plated, and you can tell there's so much care put into each dish. It's usually busy (for good reason), so if there's a wait, grab a drink at the bar and enjoy the vibe while you wait for your table!
Oh heck yes!! Please can I eat the lunch special everyday of the week?? And let me tell you how much I love places including tip!! I freaking love it!! Especially because our service from Megan was superb!! Like it was so so so good!! I loved the green curry even though my lip felt like it was going to burn off. The flavors were so fresh! And, I didn't get the yellow because I don't like potatoes in my curry and I like the vegetables better in the green one. The lunch platter had white rice, two gyozas, one cream cheese wonton and slaw. The star dish was the mango sticky rice for dessert!! I haven't eaten a dessert that good in a while! Mango perfectly ripened, rice with the perfect amount of sweetness, like so so so good! Getting hungry just thinking about it!!
A memorable mean in Minnesota. I saw this place recommended from TikTok before my trip and it did not disappoint. Everything was delicious! We had a late reservation and the place was still pretty crowded! It's got a chill vibe - great place for dinner and drinks with friends. We ordered so much food and everything was delicious, we ended up having leftovers that we took home and ate in the hotel a few days later. I would definitely come back here if im ever in this area again!
Gai Noi is the real deal. The restaurant does not disappoint in food, service or ambiance. Whenever I have folks visiting from out of town this is a staple. The 2 dishes that I always order are 1. Basil Wings 2. Tofu Snack. The basil wings are known for being a stand out star but the tofu snack gives it a run for its money as an underdog in a menu crowded with gems & variety. Go explore
I looove Gai Noi! The authentic Laotian cuisine paired with the elegant, lush vibes is always amazing here! You don't need a reservation, which is nice, but parking can get kinda packed--just something to keep in mind. It was such a beautiful day out, so my family and I stopped by for some mocktails and a few small bites. We ordered our go-to favorites: the green beans and basil wings, both tempura-fried and coated in their signature dry rub. Absolute chef's kiss--rich, tangy, and perfectly spiced! We also tried the crispy pork belly, which was deliciously crunchy and savory. My only note is that the portion was rather small. For drinks, I had the Pineapple Butterfly, which was sweet and refreshing, while my husband enjoyed the Guava Mule. I highly recommend Gai Noi--great food, drinks, and just an all-around good vibe.
This was our second visit, and since we were all there for a birthday dinner, we were able to sample a variety of the food. In order to sample a variety of dishes while there, I would suggest dining family style. We are happy that this restaurant also serves mocktails for our pregnant friend because all of the drinks we had were fantastic. Our server was super sweet and the food cam eout quick! Charged a 18% service charge for take out. That should be illegal. We did not eat in the restaurant. We ordered and took the food with us. Totally crooked business. You cannot force a customer to pay tip especially on take out. read more
* I've been sitting on a Gai noi review for quite some time because I fear I don't have the words to accurately articulate how fantastic this place is. If someone were to ask what my all time favorite restaurant in the cities is, I would say Gai noi without hesitation. I've been here on more repeat occasions since moving here than anywhere else and each time has been phenomenal. The food is exceptional and the decor provides the perfect backdrop for any occasion. Not many times in my life have I been able to say that a dish has literally knocked my socks off, but the green curry was said dish. The flavor is out of this world, and I order it nearly everytime I go. The pork fried rice and pad Thai are very close seconds. Hearty portion sizes and indecision over menu options inevitably means leftovers... obviously no complaints there. I fear I have no documentation of the cocktails, but the array will satiate any sipping craving. Meal #2 with fellow Yelper, Kedar D., and his partner, and yet another fantastic meal. Beautiful, expansive place with lots of seating over 2 floors. Well-designed, decorated. Their menu isn't the largest, but there's enough variety to keep you happy, and there's a handful of vegan options. The three of us split: -Tofu laab ($15). Classic Thai dish, with fried tofu, onions, cilantro, scallion, mint, and the signature toasted rice powder. I often find the rice powder makes things gritty, but this was well-integrated. It's served fresh lettuce you can use to wrap up the tofu et al, or just eat it alongside. Spicy dish, but within reason. Really good. -Yellow curry with tofu ($16). Very nicely done yellow curry with plenty of cubed fried tofu, carrot, potato, and basil. Rich, but not overly done, not too sweet -- perfectly balanced. Excellent. -Drunken udon ($12). This was the highlight for me. I was worried that the tamarind sauce it comes with would be too sweet, but it was anything but that; it was more tomatoey than anything, coming with red peppers, tomatoes, onions, green onions, and basil. Unique dish and worth coming here just to try this. -Sides: pickled vegetables ($5), jeow bong ($3), jeow eggplant ($3). All of these were decent. I'm not a huge pickled vegetable fan, but these were nicely pickled, maybe a tad acidic and sweet. The textures were nice between the carrots, radish and cucumber. The jeow bong is a very spicy and slightly sweet hot sauce that goes well with pretty much everything. The jeow eggplant was a stewed, mild eggplant dish that I don't have much to compare to, but we enjoyed it. -Kanom krok ($10). Very tasty, savoury, coconut cream filled pastry balls. Excellent way to finish off the meal. read more
This is a must try new spot!! Does not take reservations, walk in only. We walked in around 530 on a weekday so had no trouble getting in but there was a 30m + wait by the time we left! Super cute spot, nice decor and well laid out. Service - I think they had just all hands on deck approach because I don't remember any one server. Different people brought drinks, brought food and helped us... it worked! Our food came Uber fast and in waves as it was ready which I normally don't like but was great for ordering a bunch of things to try. Food - Our table favorites were the basil wings, the jalapeño wontons, the basil fried rice and the pad Thai! All awesome portions with great flavors. I personally don't like curry so I didn't try the curry we ordered but the table enjoyed, just wasn't the #1. My only weird thing was they had no salt and pepper. When I asked they ended up getting some from the kitchen because no tables had seasonings. Maybe I'm the odd one but thought that was different! Was in the area and I'm glad I decided to stop by. When you walk in the ambiance immediately sets a calm and relaxing mood. The hostess sat me promptly and took my order. I got the Thai basil wings with the pork fried rice. The wings were 10/10 by being perfectly cooked crispy with great seasoning. Even the basil leaves and jalapeños tasted great. The pork fried rice was well balanced and very tasty, I'd give it a 8.5-9/10. I can't wait to come back and try more. read more

We were really excited to try Gai Noi as it is the same chef that owns Lat14 and Khlauna. What a gorgeous "rooftop" atrium seating area with huge bright green ferns hanging from the rafters and all natural lighting. It gives you a very tropical happy vibe. There is a parking lot that charges a set $6-8 for the day otherwise there is metered street parking. They do not take reservations so there might be a wait at prime times. We got a seat right away on a Friday at lunch time upstairs. We absolutely loved everything we tried! The menu is Laotian inspired dishes and lots of colors with each dish. The chicken wings were deliciously crunchy and fried to perfection. It came with eight wings and a side of sweet chili sauce. The egg rolls were also tasty. Nothing to write home about but I liked how the roll itself didn't have too much deep fried wrapping over it. The pad see eww is very a similar dish to chow fun. Instead it has eggs and Chinese broccoli and this sauce seemed sweeter. You get a big serving size so we had plenty of leftovers. The prices were surprisingly affordable and not overpriced like I would've have expected a hip new place to be. Which I love affordable food! I noticed they have a happy hour 2-5 on weekdays so take advantage of that! read more

@gainoi.mpls was worth the many stressful roadblocks of construction. saddened by the fact I didn't manage to take any pictures of the actual restaurant, but if you trust my reviews, trust the fact that this place is a 10/10 with its gorgeous interior and ambiance. we sat upstairs in the communal dining room (highly recommend) and were blown away. the upper deck looked even more stunning on a sunny day! service was SO speedy, efficient and knowledgeable. we chatted away and felt totally taken care of throughout our entire experience as dishes & drinks came out as ready. prices were SO reasonable, the dishes were SO shareable and I have nothing but reasons to come back for more. our food orders: basil wings // get the pineapple sauce on the side seasoned fried beef the udon special our cocktails: star fruit margarita the pho spiced old fashioned read more

I have a lot of pros and cons about this place. I will say that we got seated quickly on a Friday afternoon which I thought was rare. It is my first time in Minneapolis and we had to pay for parking which was $9 (seems a little outrageous) Food itself was decent. We ordered the Pad See Eww, Tom Yum Noodles, and the Calamari. Portions were shareable, but they weren't phenomenal. The tom yum soup was very spicy and the pad see ew noodles were really chewy. However, the interior was stunning. Gai Noi is yet another home run by Chef Ann Ahmed. Stopping in for Sunday lunch in mid-July, we were greeted by friendly staff who asked for our seating preference (note: they do not take reservations). We elected to sit on the first floor, but after some post meal exploring, it was clear the second floor is where it's at. With communal tables surrounded by plants and a deck offering open air and covered seating, I will be returning to dine on level two. In terms of food, I've learned to never leave a Chef Ahmed establishment without an order of wings! So that's where we started. The Basil Wings show off with a juicy, piping hot interior and crispy, dry rub exterior. Topped with delicate, tempura fried jalapeños and thai basil, they are reminiscent of Lat14 and Khâluna's wings. After devouring the hefty plate, we each ordered our own noodle bowl but planned to share family style. Our server informed us that food comes out as it is ready, so dishes may be staggered depending on time to prep. My bowl of Peanut Noodles came first. If you are okay with an intense peanut/curry flavor, you will enjoy this dish. Long egg noodles are generously submersed in a red curry peanut sauce and sprinkled with cilantro and crushed peanuts. The Pad See Eww was flavorful and included large pieces of broccoli and egg. The Panang Spaghetti was similar to my Peanut Noodles minus the peanuts and add a kick. The Green Curry Noodles were my least favorite of the bunch. I just through the broth was a bit bland. Definitely check out Gai Noi and don't sleep on Lat14 or Khâluna either (reviews coming). read more

This place was phenomenal! Thank you for bringing a fresh taste of Laotian cuisine to Minneapolis! The service was amazing. Our waitress was always available, joyful, and full of recommendations. The ambiance is everything here!!! Warm, inviting, relaxing, tropical...simply beautiful!! Everything we tried tonight was FLAVORFUL. We appreciate the family-style serving as we got to taste many, many dishes. Our favorites: Appetizer Tied between the pork egg rolls and the jalapeño wontons. You can't go wrong with either. Noodle If you like spice, we vote the green curry noodles. If you have a lower spice tolerance, pad see eww. Drink The star fruit margarita, hands down! The fried rice and the green beans had a hint of basil and lime: the ultimate pairing. One of the highlights of my trip to Minneapolis. I will definitely be back the next time I'm in town! A must try if you're looking to grab a casual meal with a friend or group of friends. Tons of seating available. FOOD: - Basil chicken wings (5/5): delicious and perfectly crispy chicken wings. These were a huge hit and very reasonably priced for the number of wings that we got. Definitely will get these again - Green beans (5/5): lightly fried tempura coated green beans were also a favorite at the table. Never had anything quite like this - but will definitely be reordering these at my next visit. - Pork fried rice (4/5): Solid fried rice but nothing to write home about - Panang Spaghetti (5/5): Certainly a unique fusion between a panang curry in spaghetti form. Very flavorful - Kanom Krok (4/5): Typically one of my favorite Thai desserts, they are mini coconut pancakes. took awhile for the dessert to come out but worth it AMBIANCE (5/5): We came in on a Friday night (restaurant does not take reservations) and did not have to wait for a party of 2. The interior was beautifully designed and modern. We were seated downstairs but there is also an upstairs area as well. I was warmly welcomed to this fine establishment on a cold winter night when my nostril hairs had frozen in our short walk to the front door. We were seated upstairs amongst the jungle - quite an immaculate atmosphere where ferns tickled my shoulder. The meal started off unpleasant as I received an ice cold cup of water straight onto my lap (not Gai Noi's problem, more so the clumsiness of my date). We ordered lots of yummy food. To start, we got the jalapeño wontons. These are truly a must, warm gooey cream cheese encapsulated in a perfectly fried wonton (crisp but not too oily), not to forget the delectable pineapple dipping sauce. My date and I both ordered the drunken udon. The chubby udon and tasty tamarind sauce is really unbeatable. Would not recommend wearing white as you will splatter sauce everywhere - worth it though! Service was solid and friendly. 10/10 food, 3/10 date. Will be back (perhaps with a different date next time). read more
We love the other restaurants this owner also have. This restaurant is tapas style, orders come out quick. I miss eating the basil wings and decided to get some. Parking lot next door, otherwise meters in the front. They have 2 levels to dine, upstairs also have a rooftop. I like the decorations, very Asian esthetic in the lower level and upstairs is floral. read more

SO good! I biked and was able to lock my bike right out front. We ordered three dishes to share and they were absolutely delicious. Drinks were pricey but good and also the no-tipping factored in balances it out. Definitely will be coming back! read more
Visited 2/17/25. I LOVE the Gai Noi lunch special! I'm sad I typically work M-F so I had never gotten to experience it but it was open on Presidents' Day and I'm so glad I got finally got to try the lunch special. Went at 11:30 and it wasn't too busy-we got to pick where we wanted to sit. I adore the upstairs and loved experiencing it while it was so bright outside. Our server was kind and did a great job of checking in throughout. I started with the dole whip N/A drink and my sister did the N/A guava mule. Both were delicious in their own right-the dole whip was decadent and fun with bobas and the guava mule had awesome zip and flavor. Would order either of them again. For the lunch special you get your pick of an entree, cabbage slaw, 2 vegetable gyoza, 1 cream cheese wonton, and two orange slices. I got the gai basil with sticky rice and my sister got the panang spaghetti. Both were great choices and we both agreed we would recommend them. Overall I will be back for this lunch special and I will be telling others about it. Fair price for the amount of food you get. Saw the rice bowl lunch special option too at other tables and it also looked to be a pretty decent size! read more
Gai Noi was recommended by a friend, and I happily concluded a five star review after trying it by myself. Loved the Gai Basil. It's a bit spicy but felt authentic. The green papaya salad is a bit different from the typical papaya salad in Thai restaurants. It's very fishy, it's better go with rice. Crispy tofu was delicious, good texture and generous portion. I almost missed the coconut pancakes as dessert, thought how good a pancake can go, I was wrong, the coconut flavor and texture are not remotely close to the normal pancakes. Definitely worth it. I love the interior and small details on the able, such as the aluminum plate, and tea tin, reminding me of the old time in Asia. Appreciated the hospitality, which also reminds me of Asia. Overall a 5 star experience. Will come back! read more
I had a wonderful experience here! It was crowded when I went but I was able to sneak up to the bar to order a drink while we waited. The drinks were absolutely beautiful and delicious. The food was perfection! Also I love the whole setup of the restaurant with the indoor and outdoor seating options. 10/10 would visit again. Recommend ordering one of the skewers! They don't sound like anything amazing but let me tell you they're AMAZING. We ate the Lemon Grass Chicken and shrimp skewers and the flavor was to die for. read more
Sweet new southeast Asian spot in Minne! Everything we had was very flavorful. All the sauces and curries were a fine balance of richness while not being overly heavy and having a nice kick to pair. My fave of all the dishes we tried was the Penang Spaghetti. Lovely curry cream with al dente noodles. Another favorite for us were the salmon skewers! The peanut sauce was a game changer. Overall very cute spot and loved that they were blasting AC on a hot day. They have a neat upper floor set up with the patio and a bar too. Note they don't take reservations, so come early! Paid lot next door or there is valet nearby that you can use. read more
I stopped at Gai Noi while I was on a business trip in Minneapolis. I was a little worried when we arrived and it was quite busy. They seemed to be ready for the crowd. They have community dining options where you can share a table with another party, and they don't seat parties until everyone is there. So, even with the crowd, we got seated right away. The food was top-notch. I ordered the pork fried rice and the rice was soft, flavorful, and the right mix of ingredients. I also tried the jalapeño cheese wontons, which had a little kick to them, but they were great. And I also had one of their creative pineapple drinks that was good for those of us that don't drink. Amazing!!! Gorgeous natural wood materials and plants fill the dining areas. Parking is available on the street at a meter or the parking lot right next to the restaurant that costs $6 dollars cost and weekends. It was about 4p the perfect time cause we asked for seating on the patio and we're seated immediately. The patio was nice and sunny we asked for a shady spot and the server was so sweet moved us to the shade. We started out with the jalapeño wontons comes three with a pineapple sauce. The sauce and wontons had a nice spice to it! The egg rolls were perfectly crunchy and flavorful! The gai Basil came with rice an egg and the ground chicken. Everything was delicious and service was great! Good recommendations and a very pleasant dining experience! read more

All I have to say is wow!! This spot is amazing. Our server was so nice and explained the entire menu as this was our first visit. The restaurant is so cute, especially upstairs. The food was amazing. Probably one of the best meals we've had in a long time. Everything we tried was so good. And I love a tapas/shared style dinner. Would HIGHLY recommend this spot. read more
Amazing experience! From the moment we walked in, I knew this restaurant would be amazing. The indoor/outdoor space upstairs had such a relaxed and modern vibe and the smell of their delicious food filled the air. Our server was friendly and gave helpful recommendations and the food came out quickly. I tried the Gai basil and pineapple butterfly cocktail. Both were delicious. The place looks very aesthetically pleasing and the food too but the taste of the gai basil that was recommended by the server was horrible along with khao poon. Everything was so salty and the portion size was not worth the price at all. You do not get a lot of rice with the gai basil to balance out the saltiness of the ground meat. read more

New spot in Loring Park! I was really excited to try this place and I was not disappointed. Ordered the Egg Fried Rice, Habanero Wings, Lao Yum Salad and the LemonGrass Chicken Skewers. Everything was incredible. Top of the list was the Habanero wings. They were very spicy but also very flavorful. They also reheat very well. The service was fast and they bring the food to you as you order it. Sat on one of the family tables and it was actually pretty fun. Got to experience how good the food is with total strangers. I will most certainly be back. Surprise hit was the salad. I don't think I have ever enjoy a salad quite so much. Get the Lao Yum Salad. Its...yum. read more

We really love this place. It's quite large, & even though they don't take reservations, we've never had a problem getting a table. The restaurant is beautiful and staff always friendly. My favorite dishes are the panang spaghetti, green beans, red curry, & pad see eww. The food is spicy, even if it doesn't say spicy everything has a level of spice. I wish you could ask for less spicy but the waiter said it's in the nature of the recipe. They also give you tiny glasses for water so I usually ask for a pint glass of water. read more
This place is pretty on the inside. The atmosphere was open and you can heard people enjoying their time there. Let's get to the food. Everything was pretty good. The only thing that we didnt get until the end was the panang spaghetti. That was oka, i would like the noodle to be a little more cook, but my preference. Something to consider is instead of spaghetti noodles, try doing udon noodles. (Just something to think about) The red curry was good, it taste like red curry. The green papaya salad was ok. I wish the papaya was thinner strand instead of big strand. I didn't realize the portions were a little small. The stir fry pork (gra ka pao) was good. It was a little decent. Overall, it is a pretty good place. The services was good. The waitress we had was nice and friendly. Check in with us a lot. The only thing was that by the time we got done eating the other food, the Panang spaghetti came out. We were told that the food comes out when ready, but this one took forever. one of my favorite restaurants in minneapolis hands down. the upstairs dining area is so beautiful with all the greenery, and all the workers are very friendly. food comes out super fast and is family-style, so bring people to share! now to the food... It's a no reservation restaurant, walk-ins only!
Are they peanut allergy friendly?
I’d say no but not 100% sure because they do ask if there’s any allergies. Some of the dishes do include peanuts, also some of the seating is community style so you could be at a table with other parties.
