I really struggled with how I wanted to rate Gao Lhao as I had some amazing bites, but then so many mediocre ones as well. It almost feels like a 3 star spot that is almost 5 stars. Went for a dinner on a Sunday night around 8 PM and the spot was PACKED; we ended up waiting 20-30 minutes, so would definitely recommend a reservation if you're in a rush or want to eat during normal meal time. Whole Fried Pompano: The dipping sauce was incredible and the fish skin got a nice crispy crunch from being fried, but I was pretty confused by how to eat this dish. Maybe it was user error, but there were tons of bones and unlike with steamed fish, it was very difficult to remove them. In spite of the flavors and fresh herb accoutrements, I just can't recommend this due to the eating experience: Crab Claypot Noodles: Very minimal amount of crab, just 3 tiny bitty claws. It's mostly just thin, glassy noodles that in themselves were just okay from a texture perspective, I like a bit more of a chew. Very ginger forward and the flavors were not bad, but not anything special. Crispy Pork Belly, BBQ Pork, Pork Wontons, Onsen Egg Bha Mee Hang: The noodles and the gravy are a 5/5 bite, but unfortunately the protein was just okay. The skin on the pork belly was crispy, but both pork options ate very chewy / overcooked. Pork wontons were fine, but cold and I wanted them to be a bit fresher.

I am a fan of Isarn and Kin Len Thai Nite Bites. So when I heard about their new Chinese fusion restaurant opening in Greenlake, I could not wait to go and try it. Unfortunately, my first try (during Mother's Day) dining here did not go smoothly because we ordered two really awful main dishes-- Their flavorless Beef Hot Pot and some gooey, noodle concoction that tasted awful and looked like some kid made it on their toy stove. I've blocked it out and can't remember the name! Other than these minor missteps, the rest of our food tasted good, service was attentive and friendly on a busy night. Our drinks were refreshing and overall we had a fun time. What I noticed though is how good their Happy Hour menu is and how I feel this would be the best time to dine here again.

Another gem in a great location! I almost always crave Thai food and my favorite place in Seattle, Kin Lin, is not always the easiest to get a seat at come dinner time. My partner and I decided on this place because it was close to Green Lake which is a great location. The parking is a bit difficult because of the busy area but parking a few block away usually isn't that hard. Green Lake being so close was also a great thing because we needed to wait a bit for a table. They have a huge menu with many items I have not seen before. The service was also very quick and friendly. I opted to try their boat noodles which was very rich and very good. This was my first time trying boat noodles and I was very happy with this choice. The portion was also huge and I left very full with plenty of leftovers. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal and we will happily be back

I came here with some friends to finally try the Thai food I'd heard so much about. I really liked the lighting and seating layout of the restaurant, it created a pretty cool, modern ambiance that made the whole experience feel a bit more elevated. I ordered the Pad Thai, which I enjoyed! It was a bummer though that they had already run out of Pad See Ew by the time we arrived :/ but the portion sizes were super generous, which is always a plus! So I only ended up making it about half way through my plate before having to ask for a to-go box lol. I also decided to try the Boozy Chrysanthemum Slushy. While it was very pretty in presentation, I personally wasn't a fan of the taste :/ It had a stronger bitter/herbal flavor? than I was expecting, so I ended up tapping out and couldn't finish it, which was a bummer... I think having ingredient descriptions for the drinks on the menu would definitely help set expectations a bit better lol.

Hype deserved. Everything was delicious, service was friendly and prompt, and the vibes are awesome here. Cocktail list was plenty and creative. Super unusual: a really lovely waiting area since they don't take reservations. We loved the noodle bowls, fish sauce wings, steak fried rice. Happy hour every day til 6!

This has become one of my favorite restaurants in Seattle! The inside decor is very cool, representing Bangkok streets and storefronts. I love that they incorporate certain Chinese elements in their Thai dishes such as crispy pork and Charsiu. Their bha mee hang bowl is very delicious but you can never go wrong with a classic pad see iew or crab fried rice! All consistently delicious!

OMG! What a surprise walking in the door at Gao Lhao. Feels like I'm on a street in Thailand. The vibe, the service, the food, all excellent. Try and catch the happy hour for the fish sauce chicken wings- soooo good. The bah mee hang noodles with that pork belly, gotta try. Will have to work my way through the menu! Extra kudos for not serving this yummy food on plastic plates!

So happy we checked out Gao Lhao. I'm a big fan of Kin Len, so I was excited to see what this spot had to offer. Overall, everything we ordered was good, with the standout being the spicy pork jowl tossed noodles. It's a cold noodle dish, which we didn't expect, but the flavors were spot on and tasted incredibly fresh. The spicy beef salad was pretty standard and a bit under-seasoned, and the steak itself was just okay. The XO noodles leaned a little bland as well, though the seafood quality was good. One dish I wouldn't recommend is the mango sticky rice. The rice was not sticky and felt quite undercooked. Since they use black rice, which requires more time and care, it's something that could definitely be improved. We visited on a Saturday around 3 pm and still had about a 30-minute wait, which was a bit unexpected. The restaurant also seemed slightly understaffed, as service was slower and we waited a while to be attended to. Despite that, I'd still be interested in coming back to explore more of the menu.

Wonderful new spot! The food was really good and the service was too! There is a bit of a wait because they're newer & very popular but FOR GOOD REASON BECAUSE ITS DELICIOUS!

    House-made Crispy Chive Cakes

Familiar with Isarn and Kin Len, so naturally I found out about Gao Lhao when they were first opening. Finally got around to trying after a weekend of walking. Wait went by fast and service was wonderful. Noodles were delicious, plentiful, and great value. Appetizers on the other hand, I thought were less exciting. House-made Crispy Chive Cakes - super similar to a Korean seafood pancake, almost like a cousin to the Korean classic. Same texture without the protein as this appetizer is vegan friendly. Not super crispy, the interior mash of chives makes up a bulk of the texture. Tastes very oily and heavy, would not be on my list to order again. Fish Sauce Wings - my friends and I have been to a place in South Seattle that does it best, so we're definitely biased. These wings weren't as crispy and flavorful, but they're still decent. Chicken wasn't dry, skin was fried once, and the fish sauce was light. They do provide fish sauce on the side, but I think the chicken itself could use more seasoning prior to frying. Worth ordering again, but I'd come here mainly for noodles. Bha Mee Hang Bowl - I got option 3 with crab, pork, and egg. All of the bowls come with a generous portion of tasty dry egg noodles. Savory, bouncy, springy, and quite QQ. I was pleasantly surprised with the proteins. A few bites of crab meat, some decently crispy pork belly (the specialty spots in Chinatown do it crispier, obviously), sweet char siu, and a soft boiled egg! Only complaint, which isn't too reasonable, is that the vegetables are mainly end pieces and not leafy greens. Would love a better mixture.

I came during happy hour (3-6pm) and had an amazing meal. Service was great, the space was clean and decor was very nice. The calamari was good and came with a delicious sauce. I like how the garlicky noodles came with a soft boiled egg and veggies, everything tasted yummy.

    Seafood mama noodles
    Katherine Y.

Delish Thai noodles and rice dishes. We had the seafood stir fried mama noodles, boat noodles and two type to Tom Yum. They were all very flavorful and good portion. I wish I had room for the mango sticky rice. The decor was very funky, it's like the 80s in Thailand or Asia. They don't unfortunately validate for parking underneath. I would highly recommend it!

Good food, great service. Awesome!! Located by Greenlake, 1 block behind starbuck, across from road runner store. Restroom: male and female restrooms Seating: indoor, lots of room, good for small and big group. Fast service Parking: some free and pay street parking or park at pcc parking garage 1.5hr limit They have lots of different kind of dishes we normally dont see in other thai restaurants. We ordered: Kurobuta noddle soup - good, very strong flavour in the sweet side Oyster pancake - taste good, but wish they use the smaller Oyster instead Ny steak curry w rice - very nice curry flavour. The rice is kinda wet. Overall good. Definitely will come back to try other dishes.

From the outside, we noticed the restaurant takes up a good amount of space in the building. Once we arrived, there were several people waiting to be seated. We added our name and number to the list. It was about a 10-to-12-minute wait for our party of 2. Throughout the restaurant, the lighting is dim and suited for night life. Once we were seated, we were given the menus. We ordered the Grilled Calamari, Uncle Odds Flank Red Curry Wild Betel Leave with Sticky Rice, Battered Chicken Red Curry, and Durian Tiramisu. The food came out at a respectable amount of time. The Grilled Calamari was an enticing appetizer off the menu based off how big it was. However, we were a bit disappointed once it arrived at the table. It was much smaller. It was still good regardless. Once our main entrees arrived, we were also a bit surprised by the lack of vegetables there were in the curry. Even though the menu states exactly what was in each of the curry dishes, we were still just shocked and questioning why that was. We both enjoyed the curries anyways. I wouldn't order the Battered Chicken Red Curry again only because the batter of the chicken was getting soaked the longer it sat in the curry and became a bit mushy. The texture was throwing me off. It was very filling as there were lots of chicken compared to the other curry we had which was a much smaller portion of protein. Lastly, the Durian Tiramisu was amazing! Definitely the star of the show for us. If you don't like durian, it won't be for you. For the durian lovers, this is a must have!

The atmosphere was warm and inviting, and we were looking forward to the bold flavors we've come to love. The visit started off a bit oddly. The front desk server, Tar, asked to see my wife's ID--even though she's 36 years old and we weren't seated in the bar area. It felt inconsistent, especially since younger guests nearby weren't asked, and it's something we've never experienced at their other locations. Unfortunately, moments like that made us feel singled out, and honestly it sometimes feels like they tend to pick on Asians, whether intentional or not. That feeling alone made the experience uncomfortable and will likely make this our last visit to this location. That said, the table service was excellent. Moo took great care of us, and Cece from the bar was attentive and kept our water filled throughout the meal. Unfortunately, there were a few moments that took away from the experience. While I was taking photos of our dishes, a young staff member alongside Tar appeared to be giggling and mocking me, which made things uncomfortable. It may not have been intentional, but it didn't feel professional and only added to the awkward atmosphere we already felt. Food-wise, there were some inconsistencies. The chicken didn't taste as good as we remember, and several plates had visible fingerprints, which was off-putting. The galvanized metal plates also gave off a slightly unrefined feel--more like cafeteria-style serving ware. Additionally, the sticky rice, which is usually presented in a traditional bamboo basket, was served in a Ziploc bag, which felt like a downgrade in presentation. On a positive note, the papaya salad and pad Thai were still very good and delivered the flavors we expect. We'll continue supporting Isarn, but we'll likely return to the Kirkland or Lynnwood locations next time. Sadly, after this experience, this Queen Anne visit will probably be our last.
