Vegan Chinese? Yes please! They are all plant based (in case I didn't start with that)! I love that they have gluten free options too. They have options of delivery or pickup. Their website is super simple to order from. I ordered the Mongolian chicken (mild spicy) and the veggie dumplings, and the chocolate cake. I loved the main course and the cake. Wasn't a big fan of the dumplings. But I'll definitely go back to try the other options. This was my favorite vegan Chinese on the peninsula and I went regularly to their Palo Alto location. Real estate prices had them consolidate in Mountain View and it is better than ever. I've not seen Mae and her husband since Covid. She remembered me immediately and what I preferred. This is a review of the Mountain View Garden Fresh. We don't go to the Palo Alto Garden Fresh since the owner sold the store front to a person who doesn't even understand the items on the menu and gives bad customer service. Since we first discovered Garden Fresh around 2010, we have never been disappointed with this delicious vegan food. Of my four family members, I am the only vegan, but the other three love the tastes and textures too! My daughter loves the Steamed Vegi Buns; they're a little plain for me. Other family favorites are: Orange Beef - based on mushrooms Vegi Duck: This sounds weird, but it is juicy and delicious - it even has 'skin'. General's Chicken Szechuan Eggplant Kung Pao Gobo Basil Tempura Gobo - Gobo is Burdock Root; it has a texture that is eerily close to cooked flesh. It is delicious and maybe our overall favorite! If you don't like soy, then you will find plenty of dishes that are based on burdock root (Gobo) and mushrooms. You only need to ask the owner about it. She is always friendly to us. The only complaint I have is that I haven't been able to convince the owners to open a site in the Santa Cruz area, so I have to make a round-trip of over an hour and a half to satisfy my family's cravings for Garden Fresh. read more

I'm a carnivore but I decided to try this place. The place is small and a little dated, I had no issues parking on a Wednesday evening. The service is quite good, there was only one lady taking the orders, serving and she was very nice. We ordered: - Scallion pancake.- very good. - Crispy sesame chicken.- this was my favorite dish and I really enjoyed it. - Hong Kong style noodles.- noodles were so so and there was too much sauce. - Tofu skin with asparagus.- so so. - Vegetarian Duck.- many of the reviews were very good but I didn't like this dish, maybe I'm too used to the real duck but my son who is almost vegetarian liked it very much so it also might be a matter of taste. - Tofu delight.- so so and there was not much Tofu in the dish. If you are a vegetarian I think this is a good option but I'm not sure if this place is for carnivores. read more

Great option for spicy food lovers! Bonus points for a small, locally-owned mom and pop shop (a husband and wife run the place). Been coming here for a few years and has always been consistently tasty. Try to come early before you are hungry because they are pretty stretched and don't have a lot of workers. The place is pretty small so there may be a little bit of a wait. Good authentic Chinese food but with a vegetarian (probably vegan) twist. Food is so good that even meat eaters can enjoy it because their veggie meat is really, really good. Their faux meat options actually taste different from one another (duck is probably the most popular, I like the ribs, and chicken as well). i started going here when i first moved to mountain view and loved it instantly! ive only ever ordered for pickup- never dine in. everything is delicious and portions are fair! my favorite dish is the ham. parking is a tad small and just being on that part of el camino is a pain in the ass, but the surrounding stores don't get a lot of foot traffic- im sure you'd be able to find parking with no problem read more

Definitely one of my favorite vegan spots in terms of the customer service - when I got to the place it seems the owner knew everyone by name and their owner! Loved the interactions - very warm and sweet. Came here on a Friday evening for dinner. Even when my order was ready she called and let me know there was some chili on the side and extra brown rice for my order. That itself merits 5 stars. Now onto the food: Chicken Chow Fun: I absolutely loved chow fun but they made this one incredibly spicy for some reason. I've never had chow fun that spicy before! And trust me I love spicy foods - I always eat thai chili/jalapenos at home and the korean fire noodles that are known to be super spicy isn't that bad. This chow fun was way spicier that it was hard to eat. I asked for chili sauce on the side on my online order - since my girlfriend can't handle the heat so if it was on the side I can add it myself. But maybe they accidentally added it to the cooking - anywho could be an honest mistake but the spice sorta ruined the rest of the meal :/ Orange chicken - loved the top pieces of orange chicken, but the ones in the bottom heavily coated in orange sauce tasted very sweet and almost like oranges itself. Which is good in a way that it was good quality - just a bit too sweet for some of the pieces, and I was expecting more of a crisp. Maybe sauce on the side next time I order :) Spring rolls - THIS. This was probably the best vegan spring rolls or even one of the best spring rolls in general I've had. So flavorful, perfect crisp, amazing sweet and sour sauce. Come for the vegan duck! It was really cute how they actually used tofu skin to simulate the appearance of the skin and fat, and little mushroom heads looked like bones! I thought it was very tasty and texturally actually pretty similar to duck. Three stars because the Singapore-style noodles were unappetizing and service was subpar. We had the VEGGIE HAM (imitation, wheat-free): Soy ham sautéed with broccoli, jicama, mushrooms and snow peas in special garlic white sauce and... GENERAL'S VEGGIE CHICKEN (imitation): Crispy-fried soy chicken, sautéed with bell peppers and carrots in spicy sweet and sour sauce. and... Fantastic Chinese food, even for non-vegetarians. We especially love their "Veggie Duck" and "Veggie Fish", which are both better than their non-vegetarian counterparts, in my opinion. The food here is full of flavor, and phenomenal. I have to drive far just to eat here, I wish there were more locations! But I definitely make the trip. My favorite thing to get is the Veggie Bundles, the "chicken" chow mein, and the veggie ribs and mongolian chicken. I feel like all the crispy stuff like the lemon chicken and orange chicken tends to get soggy if you get it on doordash or to go by the time you get home so eating it there when its fresh is SO worth it. Even though its simple, the won ton soup is always so comforting to me and honestly can not find any chinese food within a 20 mi radius that does a vegetarian wonton soup like this. We visit them very often for their traditional Chinese vegan dishes. It's hard to find in bayarea. It's not in a nice building and decor, but they serve delicious food. We also want to support the hard working couple who taking care of the restaurant themselves. A lot of options in the menu. Came here for a late dinner (8 pm) and got the Scallion Pancakes, and the Hot and Spicy Bean Curd. The scallion pancakes were delicious! They were deep fried but weren't greasy at all. I would order this again. The hot and spicy bean curd (tofu) was pretty decent but wasn't that spicy. The one downside of Garden Fresh is that service was rushed and curt. Steered here by Yelp, we put in a HUGE takeout order (literally almost 20 dishes) on a day we happened to be in the South Bay. So glad we did. We ordered online directly and shortly thereafter Alice (the owner) called us to check if we needed rice and if we were ok with a medium spice level. We told her we didn't need rice but that we actually really like spicy food (so she adjusted accordingly). Alice was super sweet when we picked up the order and snuck in an extra veggie bun into the order. Back home, all the food was AWESOME and plant-based to boot. We love that there is an all-vegan menu where we don't have to worry about hidden animal ingredients. (Tangent: recently discovered salt and vinegar chips often contain buttermilk. Wat. And why.) We made the mistake of ordering too much so couldn't remember the name of all the dishes, but the vegetarian duck, shredded pork, spicy bean curd, spicy eggplant, and black pepper chicken were standouts. But basically there wasn't anything we didn't like, and we'll try even more of the menu next time -- whatever little there was left. TL;DR: 100% vegan. 100% recommended. Owner is 100% sweet and friendly -- and basically has been doing this for 18 years, before plant-based ever was on the mainstream radar. Overall the food was great, the owner was really nice. There were 8 of us and one of us was Gluten Free and the owner took her time to circle out which dish they could accommodate for GF. Since we were a big group we ordered a bunch of entree to share. My favorite was the orange beef, mango chicken and veggie duck. The spring rolls were worth ordering as well. WOW really good vegan dishes, I was skeptical of how all the dishes were vegan and how it would taste but really impressed.

We had a vegan friend among us hence we ordered take out chinese vegan from Garden Fresh. Between the 5 of us we ordered: - brown rice - wontons - chicken chow mein - sweet and sour pork - crispy duck - beef broccoli - tofu delight Among everything I tried, I only liked the chow mein and beef broccoli but even these two dishes weren't too tasty. Wow! Simply wow!!!! First off, my Arabic husband has said he's never had soy product that taste like meat. This place is really incredibly tasty, we went to the mountain view location last night and realized we needed something special for Chinese New Year and decided to come to the location closer to us. We got the fried drumstick (pure crack says my husband), the eggplant tofu (taste like candy, I can eat this all day also says my husband), chicken chow mien (SO delicious), and the veggie ribs (little nuggets of happiness). All of this was very affordable and healthy! The mountain view location has the same menu, I really recommend the veggie fish I think this is crack, so bleeping good. By the way.... Excellent vegan Chinese food with top notch service! I had the eggplant and tofu lunch special, which came with corn soup and brown rice. The soup came out quickly and was ok but the eggplant was not far behind and was quite delicious. The tofu was fried perfectly and the eggplant was tender and flavorful without being mushy. Everything was very fresh. They accommodated my request to make the dish spicy, and even brought over extra hot sauces in case I wanted more heat. Coming from a total carnivore, this place was delicious and curious for anyone who hasn't seen truly well-made vegan "meat." Order: Basil Tempura ($9ish) -- not what I would picture at all. It's lightly sauced fried soy fritters with some stir fry veggies, all in a foil packet. Veggie Duck -- Not your typical soybean paper drenched in sauce. This dish is a little pricier ($16) but it is a work of soy protein art -- the skill is in the texture, it is freakishly similar to duck, down to the way the chunks of "duck" break apart. Large portion, comes with broccoli and sauteed greens in a light sauce. Scallion Pancake -- light, crispy texture, drizzled with a little sweet soy sauce. Not your typical scallion pancake from Shanghainese places. Really enjoyed this even though I had actually ordered veggie dumplings and this came out by accident. Pros: Decent amount of seating for Palo Alto downtown. Lady running the place was very sweet. Reasonably clean place Service was fast Unique dishes, but we skipped the ones that are very typical American Chinese food (i.e. chow mein) Near a bunch of muni lots and close to residential homes where the parking lets up a bit. Cons: Dishes are a bit pricey for the size of the serving, but it is a) Palo Alto and b) well made vegan food. I am a vegetarian and tried this place based on good reviews on yelp. It is an overpriced restaurant. Portion sizes are small compared to other Chinese restaurants. Food is average. We tried hot and sour noodle soup, which was noodles in clear broth(water) and lacked taste. Tofu and red bell pepper claypot dish was ok and beef orange dish was horrible- the shiitake mushrooms were over cooked, though the sauce was ok. For me , it is a total No Go place. read more
