I came here for a work dinner for a party of 9. I had never heard of this restaurant before and was excited to try it! It's tucked away right outside of the Presidio and seemed to be a spot for locals and business meals. Since we were a large party we were sat in the back in a bigger but intimate room. The table did feel a bit cramped but still decent space for a large party. To drink I had the cucumber martini which was fantastic! For appetizers we had the bread (which included delish olives), artichokes, croquettes, papas bravas, and the spring pea trio. All of them were delicious, and the papas bravas was my favorite. For my main I had the steak frites which was excellent. Steak was cooked perfectly and the sauce was tasty and savory. Fries with a bit of herb sprinkle of them was fantastic as well. The service was also great. A water glass was never left empty for too long and dishes were cleared often and fast. The staff were also very kind and welcoming. Overall, great dinner experience. Restaurant: The restaurant is very popular, but it is also extremely noisy. We were a party of four, and it was difficult to carry on a conversation because of the noise level. Food: The food was good, but not exceptional. The salads were outstanding and, in our opinion, better than the main dishes. Drinks: We ordered martinis, and they were well prepared. Service: We requested two separate checks for accounting purposes. My partner and I arrived early specifically to let our server, Doug, know about this request. Unfortunately, at the end of the meal, Doug gave the entire bill to the other couple, who paid it. Afterward, I asked Doug why he had not provided the two separate checks as requested. He replied that he wanted to check with the other couple first. We were all disappointed by how this situation was handled, and it spoiled what had otherwise been a pleasant evening. i've been going to garibaldi's for 15 years. The hostess was always very polite. Last night, the hostess did not have my open table reservation at 5:15. He was rude and very dismissive and did not believe me. He put us in the back. I think it's punishment as the restaurant was empty For the next hour. Food and waiter were great but the hostess ruined the evening with his attitude. Food is good but not amazing. Service is poor. I've visited multiple times and they are clearly short-staffed. The last two times there was no one at the front podium to greet new diners walking in. We had to wait several minutes standing visibly in the entry area for someone to approach and verify that we had a reservation. Our appetizer came out late, just before entrees. The menu price for bread&butter is $3. Most places give bread for free, but fair enough... When the bill showed up I noticed that they explicitly charged "$3x2=$6" because two of us shared the bread! They also attached a 6% surcharge to the bill. And tax was calculated on top of that. I felt robbed and this dampened the dining experience. read more

Disappointing. It is so sad when a fav restaurant goes downhill. We have been going to Garibaldis for 20+ year. We have weathered the ups and downs of ownership changes - but the quality of the food and experience has dropped. We went last night for an early Valentines dinner. The miso cod had no flavor. The chicken parmigiana had almost no sauce. The octopus appetizer which was supposed to be grilled was breaded and probably baked. Budono dessert lacked flavor. Service was friendly but clearly inexperience. There are so many other good restaurants. We won't retur. read more

Seems they screwed up our confirmed and reconfirmed reservation b/c they seated us and then TWICE came to the table during dinner to challenge why were there and to demand to know who seated us. Classic move: when you screw up but don't want to take responsibility for it, blame the customer. Better still, EMBARRASS the customer in a packed restaurant during what was supposed to have been a nice Valentines Day dinner. The owner eventually got involved and comped the dinner, but with no explanation as to why we were singled out for the shabby treatment. Thanks, I guess -- but I didn't come for a free dinner. I came and brought a guest for a nice dining experience, and was perfectly ready to pay for it. My boyfriend chose Garibaldi's for a Valentine's Day dinner, and we were able to get a table at 6pm without a prior reservation. The interior of the place was very intimate with candlelight at every table and dark surroundings. We were seated in the backroom and I liked the privacy and more quiet ambiance. Our waitress was really nice and welcoming and took our orders shortly after explaining the a la carte Valentine's Day menu. We ordered the bread and butter starter, roasted cauliflower, and oysters off the specials to start. The bread and butter was so good we got another order of the bread to finish out the butter! The warm bread had a great crust with a light texture on the inside and the softened butter was topped with flaky salt. This pairing is always special when the quality of ingredients is good. The roasted cauliflower was tasty, though I think there was almost too much chipotle sauce on top. The pickled onions were much needed to balance the richness of the sauce. The oysters had a good flavor, but they were so tiny that 3 for $15 was not worth it. For mains, I got the winter chopped salad and my boyfriend ordered the dungeness garlic noodles. The salad looked huge and was a great portion as an entrée. I liked the sort of grated hardboiled egg on top, which added a nice touch of protein. I liked the bitterness of the leaves with the light dressing, everything was fresh and balanced. The dungeness crab noodles were to die for, so garlicky, buttery, and with big chunks of crab meat. The waitress said this was a relatively new addition to the menu since dungeness crab season just started, so get it while you can! For dessert, we got the tiramisu which came in a big slice, but we were not complaining. It was perfectly fluffy and light, with kahlua soaked ladyfingers and a delicate cream in between its layers, topped with a nice layer of cocoa powder. We were looking forward to our reservation on Thanksgivings - menu, location, reputation. Unfortunately, the food was overshadowed by the service from our server. Our server Rachel was pretty bad as she only touched our table four times: one to take our drink order, one to take our dinner order, one to ask us if we wanted more bread when our main course was presented, and one to drop off the check. We were never asked about our food, if we wanted refills on our beverages, or anything to accompany our dessert course. It was unfortunate, especially for the occasion and price point. I hardly ever write review but this one needs to be said. Food was great. Drinks were great. The host was rude AF. No greeting. We arrived a bit early for our reservation hoping to grab a drink at the bar. We were met with immediate dismissal "Well I can't seat you now". - ok, totally fine. We will wait at the bar, no problem. Our actual waiter was great and personable. At the end of the night, here comes the host once again "We have a hard close at 10!" Basically saying GET OUT. We came here for our friend's birthday and it ended up being the perfect spot! We had a big round table which I loved it's perfect for conversation. Our server he was wonderful quick and I never had to look for him I consider that all excellent qualities. The wine list here was amazing ahh pricy but amazing none the less. The food was super delicious flavorful not a one of us were unhappy about our orders. I was so busy trying to taste everyone else's dish, I was full before I started my own dish lol The ambience is perfect classy and a little noisy, because they're packed with a huge group of regulars and I know why, because everything is just so delicious. Starting from the perfectly cook rock cod, to the creamy risotto to dye for and then the chicken Milanese melts in your mouth and topping all of that off with the slow braised beef brisket, all these dishes with the amazing wines we ordered, starting with the French Champagne over to Merry Edwards Pinot and all together made for a beautiful evening with much adored friends aka family. I had a reservation for 2, 5:30 Saturday. When I entered restaurant and said we had one more person he responded I just had a 3 person cancellation and he could accommodate us. Thankful. He sat us upstairs as most of restaurant was empty. One other table taken upstair. Our service and food fine. I don't appreciate a host not being truthful and saying he is happy he could change and increase number because of cancellation as we left restaurant half empty. Perfect place to have dinner after a movie at the Vogue! We got in under the wire, 15 min before closing. Not many restaurants open late in the area. Bar seating since we didn't have reservations. I actually prefer it sometimes. The Chicken Milanese is perfection. Panna Cotta is very good here. Ambiance is casual elegance and fits the neighborhood like a glove. read more

We had an 8:30pm reservation for Valentine's Day which was made a few weeks in advanced. I check in and the man immediately tells me they're closing and we'll need to order as soon as possible. I sit down and wait for someone to come by my table which doesn't happen until 8:45pm. It's the same man who rushed me when I walked in and he said I'd need to order everything right away because the kitchen takes last orders at 8:45pm. We were never brought water let alone get the chance to order a drink. When I asked him why they take 8:30 reservations if we must order everything by 8:45 and he shrugged. The whole experience was so off putting - no service, quite rude service and no apology for the inconvenience. Needless to say we left and our Valentine's Date was cut abruptly short given there was no where else to go on such short notice. Would never recommend anyone to give this place their time and money. This was our #1 of our top 5 SF restaurants. We came here for our last night as SF residents bc it was always our favorite. Deanna always took care of us and she's one of a kind! The chicken Milanese NEVER disappoints, and I'm always excited to see rotating seasonal starters. Calamari is incredible, the chopped salad is a staple, you can't go wrong with anything. I had wanted to try the restaurant for some time, so after a long visit to the nearby Decorators Showcase, a friend from out of town (who had eaten here previously) and I stopped in. The dark exterior hides a cozy space with banquettes and helpful, knowledgeable servers. Ours explained the ingredients of the chopped salad, and the size (small) of the risotto croquettes. I wasn't that hungry, so chose the farro salad, and opted to try the croquettes another time. I also wanted to try a dessert. My friend chose the Garibaldi's salad. Next to us, a lady was eating the portobello mushroom sandwich, which looked appetizing. Our salads were quickly made, and were excellent, with farm fresh ingredients. Chocolate budino is made to order, and since my friend didn't want to wait, I chose 2 sorbets: strawberry and passion fruit. Both are very good, with the nice addition of a biscotto. I recommend that you try Garibaldi's. They offer many options for lunch and dinner, friendly service and good food. read more

When the host of a two thirds empty restaurant greets you with an ugly scowl and says, "I can't seat you. I'm short-handed," you're assured of a bumpy ride. But the advantage of sitting at the bar is that you get lots of attention. Not so at Garibaldi's, where the staff is expert in gaze aversion and unresponsiveness. When my long empty glass was raised to beg for a refill, a server admonished me for obstreperousness. The over-cooked burger, so redolent of grill flavor one couldn't help wonder at its provenance, accompanied by limp fries, did not contribute much to the delights of the proceedings. The bar man saved his tip, and this from a one star review, with a final refill on the house. Perhaps he felt guilty. This used to be a pleasant spot for somewhat better than adequate food. I dined at Garibaldi's last night. I'm afraid I have to give it a mixed review. The chicken scallopini and scampi pasta were good, The lamb dish was acceptable but the burger was really sad. The meat in the burger was so gristly that I couldn't eat it. The fries were really good although over salted. We tried the apple crisp dessert- it was served in a deep bowl and smothered in a large amount of whipped cream- almost as if the chef was trying to hide the dessert. It was a mess. The apples were not properly cored and I had to spit out the hard bits of apple core. The flavor was good-I like cinnamon and apples. The apples were juicy, and cooked well, maintaining their texture. It was a lost opportunity for the dessert to be made well. How pretty it could have been if served on a plate with the cream in a small bowl on the side. read more

Love this spot! Been here twice with family and everything is always bursting with amazing flavor. It's a smaller restaurant with a bar and I believe there is additional seating in the back. Seating in the front of the restaurant is awesome as you get the natural light coming in through the huge windows. The staff is great and make the dining experience that much greater. read more

I had the best chicken Milanese of my life here, and I've been to Italy. But all the food I had here was delicious! For starters, I had the risotto croquettes, fried zucchini, and chicken pâté. For my main, I had the chicken Milanese, which came with a heaping arugula salad, and mashed potatoes. That plate was so perfectly balanced, and I ate every single morsel. And it was a huge portion!! For dessert, I had the chèvre cheesecake, and for those that don't know what chèvre is, it's goat cheese. You can definitely tell it's goat cheese, so only get it if you like that kind of cheese! My husband and I have been driving by Garibaldis for years and always wanted to try it. We finally did and it was just as amazing as it looked (always busy!). The food was delicious and sustainable (I only eat sustainable meats-super happy bonus!), the drinks were made with care and an excellent way to wait for our table, and the atmosphere was fun and friendly. It had a nice selection of dishes and the prices (food) were lower than we expected from such a nice place with sustainable options. The drinks were a little pricey and the bottled wine list started around $90, but a great selection. We made reservations by phone within a 2 hour window, the service was informed, friendly, and the entire atmosphere felt like a neighborhood gathering. From the moment we walked through the door to the time we left, the service was excellent! We showed up without reservations on Saturday and Dina the hostess was so accommodating. My sister and I had to use the lift to the upper section and Dina had us cracking up instead of making it awkward. The wait staff were all friendly and terrific. We started off by sharing the patatas bravas and G salad and were in heaven over those potatoes. I had the Chicken Milanese and would have stabbed anyone with my fork if they tried to take some! Luckily, I didn't mind sharing a little piece with my sister. I still had plenty to take home. My sister had the Lasagna Bolognese and my BIL had the Shrimp Pasta. We were all quite delighted with our dinners. I also had the Cable Car cocktail and I could have had a gallon of it because it was so tasty. I just want to say that as a disabled person, this place rocks! As we were leaving, the waiter went out of his way to open the door for us and Dina actually helped me get into the car! Unbelievable service in San Francisco, where people let the door close in front of me while I'm trying to go in with my walker or cane. I am definitely coming back! read more

I reviewed this neighborhood gem in mid December 2017. Always like coming because it feels so cozy-- and well, it is given its size. So I won't go into all the things I wrote before. Rather this is an update. Had a lovely window table for two - fun to see all the locals coming in on a Saturday night. Greeted warmly and seated on time. Cocktails ordered Including a brought a special bottle of wine from Alban Vineyards in Arroyo Grande ( Santa Barbara. Santa Ynez)....more on this later. Waiter was pleasant and informed us he was new to Garabaldi's-- but had been a server a long time and he definitely wasn't a rookie. Ordered a split appetizer. Veggie dumplings and very tasty. Next came the Chopped salad, not my favorite but wife loves it. So I had the most delicious cauliflower soup I have ever had. Simply amazing. Not a drop of cream in it. Just puréed cauliflower and broth drizzled with a little oil and a few tiny chips of cauliflower on top. Order it. $10. Worth every penny. Next the mains-- I had grilled salmon (5 oz, maybe) cooked perfectly with a light brothy sauce. Enjoyed it, not a large dish at $34. Wife had Fresh pasta with rabbit sugo. Tasty, but...very dry. Our waiter never came back once as our food was brought to us by other servers. We couldn't flag down anyone. Frustrating and decided to let it go. After the dishes we cleared he finally came over ( my wife left to was her hands) and I mentioned to him we were disappointed he disappeared. I explained about the dish and he apologized. I simply tried to explain he needed to be attentive. Told me he had way too many tables. Not my issue. For $200 without tip I felt it was a near miss. I like this place a lot. I'm giving it 4 stars because the restaurant was very cramped and stuffy, the menu was pretty small (not a ton of options to choose from for dinner) and it was a little pricey.
