Ahhhhmazing! We had dinner at Garlic Mikes during our stay in Gunnison and loved it. I ordered the pasta with alfredo and pesto sauce and added grilled chicken. I went to garlic Mike not expecting much but ended up being pleasantly surprised. Great atmosphere, warm and inviting being at the polar end of the cold Gunnison weather. The red tablecloths made for a charming Italian feel. If you love garlic, the place lived up to its name through the dishes. I had the fillet mignon with carrots and the best polenta I have ever had (they should really advertise the polenta more) my girlfriend had shrimp scampi. Both dishes were garlicky and good. The portion was on the smaller side for mine while a scent size for my girlfriend's dish. The filet was more on the well done than the medium I had asked for which took it a big notch down. A bit expensive for what you get since it's just ok. I'd definitely go there again if I am ever in the Gunnison area again but only because it is the around there. The food was "just ok" (expect for the amazing polenta)! Also, some bread with garlic infused olive oil or even some roasted garlic would have been a nice touch considering the name. read more

This restaurant was to be a treat for our group of 21 on a cycling trip. Other's had eaten there before and told us of how nice it was. But our experience was dampered by several factors. We had budgeted for the meal but found that the menu we used online was an old, outdated one (we checked online that day). So there was a shock to the group who where paying with cash and found how much the prices had gone up. But after a mental adjustment, we settled back for a nice pleasant meal. The food was very slow in coming and our waiter, Mark, did not bring out our table's drink order for over 30 minutes. We didn't even see our waiter to ask him if he had forgotten our drinks. I would hope he was having an off night, because I can't imagine such poor service on a regular basis. We did have water, so we didn't go thirsty. The inside of the restaurant was hot. But there was a pleasant garden area that looks over the river out the back of the restaurant. I recommend seating on the back patio in warmer weather. If we had known that our food would take over an hour to be served, we would have spent more time out in the back garden, enjoying the view and the river. I know that we were a good sized group for this restaurant, but we watched an entire seating go through the dining room before we even got our meals. There was no communication from the staff and our waiter, again, was very scarce. Finally, the food was good, but the portions for the price seemed a little small. Several orders were wrong, but they were corrected. Even more dissapointing is that managment did nothing after they asked how everything went and we told them. I understand that things happen and people have bad days, but when you don't do right by people, they feel it. We were escorted through the restaurant to the back patio where we could see that the river was a shirt walking distance away. What a fun, family-friendly establishment! Our table ordered the chicken parmigiana and the chicken piccata. Each comes with a small serving of linguine and red sauce as well as a small helping of fresh green beans as well as soup or salad. Lots of food! The house salad was sprinkled with pine nuts and blue cheese...nice twist to your average house salad. The only suggestion I might make is to pound the chicken breasts before cooking. It was almost tender enough to not use a knife but not quite! The minestrone was filling and full of veggies. We split a creme brûlée which was the perfect temperature and had a nice sugary crunch as you poked your spoon through. Maybe add citronella candles as the summer progresses...I came out with a couple of mosquito bites I didn't have before dinner. Just a suggestion! read more

I have to say, I have had some really good experiences at Garlic Mikes recently. Now that they opened the River Bar and serve appetizers there, you don't have to walk out to the river anymore to see it. The seating is right on the river. On Fridays, they have live music on the river and their peach sangria from Palisades Peaches is really good. Appetizers only at the river bar though. If you are eating inside and pick the right dish (go for something $30 or up), then it should be pretty good. I think you have to set your expectations here. Sit by the river and get appetizer and bring mosquito repellent and you can have a nice evening listening to music by the river. Sit inside and celebrate a special event and you can also have a good meal. Either way, plan on spending a lot especially if you have a drink or two. It is easy to spend $75 each for some wine and a meal. Garlic Mikes continues to change. I wrote a review years ago and the experience has changed since then. read more

We came here last night for dinner and had wonderful salmon dishes! Very impressive considering this is basically a desert. Service was good and our waiter was very nice and attentive. Tonight we decided to come back for wine and dessert and weren't disappointed!! Definitely remember to leave room for bread pudding or chocolate torte. I have been frequenting this restaurant for five years. The food is great! Tonight it took us an hour and a half to get our food. After asking the waiter if we were going to get our food, he finally said something and apologized for the wait. He said we shouldn't have been seated even though we had an 8'o clock reservation. Mike came out to ask us how our dinner was and we told him about our wait. He then replied to come back in November when it's not busy. After dinner was finished they comp'd us Canolis. I am hoping he was trying to be funny, but it's not funny when you have to wait that long with your kids to eat and also spend $100 for dinner. I wanted to say something to him on the way out but was discouraged by my family in doing so. A restaurant should never treat its clientele this way. I hope it was a one time thing due to the 4th of July holiday. Mike could of handled it better. I would be prepared to have a 2 hour dinner I guess during holidays. read more

The food was a little overpriced, but it tasted fine. The portions were a little undersized for what I paid for. Some of the food felt a little bit salty but it wasn't poor. The place can get crowded and it's quite noisy. read more

Another excellent experience at Garlic Mike's! We make it a point to come here every time we visit and it never disappoints. The River Bar is an awesome addition and we show up early for our reservation now so that we can enjoy it a little longer. Service was prompt, friendly, and knowledgeable, and the food was SO yummy! The Filetto is Lombardia is one of the very best steaks I've ever had, the cut is so tender it practically melts in your mouth. My husband had the chicken Marsala and was in heaven. Waiter gave a great wine recommendation that paired perfectly with my filet. I'm always sad when it's time to leave as it's such a relaxing place to be. A couple of tips: Make a reservation! It's a popular place- for good reason. Arrive early and enjoy the River Bar out back. Relax! You're in the Gunnison Valley- one of the most beautiful places on Earth. Sip some wine and enjoy your time there and at Garlic Mike's. Also- coming from an Italian, if you're expecting your food to be tossed out at you in 10 mins and taste like Olive Garden, then that's probably where you should be. Good Italian takes time. My grandma's sauce used to simmer all day. ;) My only complaint is we have missed Mike our last couple of visits and we love seeing his smiling, friendly face. :) read more

I've been a regular here since they opened many years ago and never had a bad experience. I even attempted to arrive by kayak once! The worst thing I can say is that sometimes the seating can be extremely tight. The veal and chicken dishes are my favorite, especially when wild mushrooms are available. The pasta and salads are really not that special. This is without a doubt the best place to eat out in the Gunnison area. Reservations are a must. read more

Out of town guests here and dinner at Garlic Mike's was a must. Our table was ready and waiting for us on the patio. A party of twelve can sometimes be a challenge for Waitstaff, but led by Shelby, the service was great. The Palisades Peach sangria was suggested and proved to be delightfully refreshing and enjoyed by all. The bread with herb butter, Calamari and salads were very good, but the corn chowder is to die for and is worth the visit on its own. An array of entrees, served hot with tiny, tender Brussels sprouts as the veggie couldn't have been better. No one was disappointed with their choice for dinner. The Tiramisu for desert is my fave and I wasn't disappointed. I shared it much to my hesitation. A great place to dine and enjoy the easy going atmosphere. My husband and I love garlic Mike's. It's our favorite date night restaurant and we even had our rehearsal dinner there. The food is always very tasty and the appetizers and drinks are delicious. We like to do the $11 bowl of pasta and glass of wine deal that they have nightly in the 'bar'. We don't mind sitting in the bar because they have a few tables and it's not a bar atmosphere so you don't feel like your sitting in a bar. When the weather is nice we like to sit outside next to the river. Just wear bug spray as the mosquitos can get bad! In the wintertime we like to sit inside by the fireplace. read more

We had dinner reservations for 7:00 and were promptly seated. It took 30 minutes to get drinks and 45 minutes to get appetizers and 1 hour before we were served 2 bottles of wine ordered with drinks. The appetizer are excellent. The food was served 2 hours later and 4 of the meals were either wrong or sold out and we had to settle for spaghetti and meat balls and it was cold. We have eaten here many times with similar experience. The owner told us to come back in November when it is not busy. Mike, you don't have to worry about that, we won't be back EVER. read more

Fair. Pricey for the portions. Food is fair to poor. Mike's is long on marketing but short on service and quality of food. My child's chicken tenders were the highlight of the meal. I really hope they get it together. The staff means well, but they just aren't pulling it off in the kitchen. We waited for a table while half the dining room remained empty. We absolutely loved it. Group of 8 of us in town for a week visited on 2 separate occasions. Food was fantastic...Chicken Balsamico...yum yum...capers, artichoke hearts. Delicious. The next evening I had the Lasagna...really good. The staff is some of the hardest working group that I have seen. I pointed out how hard the bus boy was working to my friend...it turns out he was Mikes son. Mike stayed at the service window ensuring all the orders were correct and on point. Garlic Fries are a great appetizer...plenty of bread is offered...dirty dishes disappear quickly. Prices very reasonable...large portion sizes. No doubt we will be back next year when we return. The location is actually fantastic...in the back you can walk right up to the river. They have some high quality tents in back that appear to be used for special events. We were driving through the mountains and our road practically came out right at this restaurant and since there were 4 hungry travelers in the car, decided to give it a try... I rarely leave reviews unless the service and food were less than acceptable. We were vacationing in the Gunnison area and had read exceptional reviews on this particular restaurant. The positive was the atmosphere and the views from the bar behind their restaurant. We didn't have to wait very long for a table, maybe 30 minutes, since they were very busy and we had no reservation. The negative was our server was waiting on too many tables and didn't check on us for drink refills. We ordered our meal which included soup or salad, we went with the soup. We waited, and waited, and then our main meal was served. We said to the waiter you forgot our soup and he said "Oh shit, I'm so sorry I forgot!" We tried to look past that until I realized the chicken parmigiana I ordered was more like a chicken patty, not a whole chicken breast and the cheese wasn't all the way melted and for $17+ it was such a small portion. This is a don't miss if you are in the valley. Super festive Italian atmosphere, with Italian owner and all. The food is wonderful. We started with the calamari which was gone before you could blink, divine. I had traditional home made gnocchi pasta it was perfect. My husband had the filet, he is very particular about his steaks, he can't stop talking about how fabulous it was. Cooked perfectly with a Cabernet sauce. When we first walked in a lady said the hostess would be with us in a moment...we waited and waited, then finally the lady walked up to us and asked if we had a reservation. We said that we did not, then she said that they were not taking walk-in's because they were going to be too busy with a large party coming in later. We asked if we could eat at the bar, which had many open seats, and she said no we could not. We are from out of town and this place had been highly recommended. No one said (nor did Garlic Mike's website) that we needed a reservation. We asked about the next day and were told no again. First, why did she allow us to stand there for 10 minutes before even asking if we had a reservation? Secondly, why couldn't we just sit at the bar? There were only two of us. They must be planning on seating people with a reservation at the bar...really?!?! Not very tourist friendly!! Very disappointing!!! read more

Went to the Harvest Dinner last night 9/25/18 on a whim. It was excellent! Mike had just returned from Italy and applied his trip inspirations to the meal. Five courses served in the tent somewhat family style but with servers to facilitate! Started with appetizers fried green tomatoes, a large meatball and bruschetta-all delicious! Next eggplant Parmesan - fabulous. Then salad mixed greens including kale, leaf lettuce, variety of cherry tomatoes, cucumbers lightly tossed in vinaigrette all locally grown - superb. Then came the meat - Italian sausage and thinly sliced ribeye seared to perfection so tender and delicious served with garlic roasted potatoes and stuffed zucchini. Just wanted to keep eating it! Dessert was Yak milk ( cream cheese like) and fresh apple with Rocky Ford melons drenched in lemon juice and a little salt - interesting and quite good. Each course was paired with a complimentary beverage. We sat with some of the local growers and resident Gunnisonians. A truly wonderful evening that started at 6 pm and continued until 9 pm. How on earth don't you serve a half garlic bulb with your bread? You're freakin Garlic Mike's! Throw a ton of bulbs on a sheet pan in the oven at the beginning of the shift, it takes 45 minutes and you're set for the night. It would be a huge difference!
