Another wonderful and overall pleasant experience with Garneski for the fall / winter checkup. Greg was our tech and he was great. I appreciated his candor in talking me through what all he did during his visit, as well as giving me some tips on where to procure a replacement AC filter (I'm sure there's a more official name for it but in any case, they are the Honeywell ones that one can procure at Home Depot). Furthermore, their receptionist Ann / Anne (spelling?) has been nothing short of pleasant when helping coordinate check-up appointments. So many times when a customer calls for service (be it yard-work, any form of house maintenance, you name it...), their employee tasked with staffing the phones is a real nightmare. Therefore I am always pleased and pleasantly surprised when I receive delightful customer service over the phone! Honestly, I could not be happier with Garneski; they are SUBSTANTIALLY better than the company we had in the past. Definitely recommend! read more

This is the second HVAC system Garneski installed for me. The first one was fantastic, the second one not so much. The technicians had to come back 3 times to complete the work which they still have not completed. They told me I could run the AC but not the heater. When calling Garneski's customer service, I never reach a person, I am only able to leave a voice mail. read more

Horrible experience, office staff and management were no help whatsoever, completely useless and rude. I was told I'd need a completely new unit and there was no way to fix it. I tried to get an explanation and they couldn't answer my questions just kept trying to give me the runaround. Ended up getting a second opinion and it was fixed on the spot for a just under $200 not the thousands garneski tried to scam me out of. Just another company looking to take advantage and over charge for unnecessary services, glad I ended up going elsewhere and saved thousands. I would never recommend anyone this company, from over charging, terrible customer service and a rude gm. Save yourself the headache and go elsewhere. Zero stars! read more

Hmm...learning how this A/C business works. Purchased a new home in the spring and wanted to make sure the A/C was working properly. I found a coupon from Garneski for $49 "Maintenance" Visit. Tech arrived on time and seemed knowledgeable. After checking out the Forced Air Heater he then went outside to check out the A/C Compressor. Following completion of the visit, about 45 minutes, I asked him what maintenance was completed. He seemed honest and stated that this was really not a maintenance visit, but rather an inspection. At that point, I was verbally quoted a very high quote ($700+) for cleaning the blower and the A/C Compressor filter. Of course, that was only if I signed up for the annual maintenance package as the one-time service was much more. Again, I asked what the $49 Maintenance fee was for and was informed it was for the "inspection only". I did receive a readout of the refrigerant pressure and checklist of items checked. The coupon did say "maintenance" so not sure that means. I noticed all the coupons out there say "maintenance" so suggest to ask for a list of items maintained before the tech comes out. I requested a written quote for the annual maintenance package and the tech left. I did receive a satisfaction survey, yet never did receive a quote. read more

I have been with Garneski for the last 15 years. However this company has not been the same lately and their pricing is way above others to the point where I think this company is now scamming good customers like me. I am no longer a fan of Garneski and would recommend you to do proper diligence and get quotes from other companies before doing business with Garneski. Case: I have been charged $1443 for replacing an emergency heater pack which material cost is about $200 and 1 hr labor. read more

EDIT: It seems Garneski tracked me down immediately after my review and in personal email wanted me to revise or delete my review. I'm not deleting my review because it's honest and it's what happened. But I will revise it. IN 2016 We had an AC go out. Out of all the quotes we got, they were the most expensive by a large margin. Garneski wants to point out that they sent me an email March 2017 (9 months later), saying they have changed their prices since then. Quotes are only good or bad in their context of time. At that time they didn't win my business. Price changes since then have no relevance. But as you can see, for their benefit, I will add the information to this review. In 2016, I must have given them my e-mail address for the quote. Well, without my permission they put my e-mail address on their mailing list and got an email from them a few days ago. They say you can unsubscribe, but you can't because it asks for a username and password. I'm an IT person who had dealt harshly with spammers before, so I know what I'm talking about. Garneski apologized to me in e-mail about adding me to the mailing list and manually took me off the list. That doesn't solve the spam problem. I'm sure that there are other potential customers on this e-mail list. If they want to unsubscribe, they can't, just like I couldn't. AVOID COMPANIES THAT SPAM YOU! If Garneski wants to be a better company, they need to do the following: 1. Don't add people to mailing lists without their permission. 2. Use better e-mail software - if a customer wants to unsubscribe, make it so that they can easily unsubscribe. I will also add that this review better not be taken down for any reason. I've had companies try that trick before because they didn't like my honesty. All that will do is make me even more angry, repost the review, and talk to people inside of Yelp. read more

May 15th - First appointment with Garneski (Oscar) for a regular service on 2 A/C units pre-summer. Signed up for a yearly membership for $400.00 for proactive maintenance as well. May 23rd - first hot day after service, switched on A/C (attic unit), and did NOT work while thermostat was on and showed no errors. I was asked to pay $185 for technician to show up same day, or wait for 3 more days for technician to show up at no cost. I chose to wait it out, and somehow the A/C unit started working in the next 2 days. I decided to keep the appointment to validate the A/C was functioning properly. May 26th - A different technician (Willie) shows up , claims the capacitor in Fan unit was not drawing enough current, and charged $211 ( with 20% discount) to replace it. These items sell for $15 online!!! It is appalling that the 1st technician missed this issue, even though he checked the capacitor right in front of me, did not find any issues, besides rust and a recommendation to replace it at some point. The 2nd technician did not go up the attic to check the unit. May 28th - The attic A/C Unit is NOT working again with same symptoms!!! Thermostat shows no issue, but its 86 degrees inside. - There is NO reponse on the numbers listed on the website - i understand it is 6:30PM after-business hours, but they claim to be a 24/7 services. - I submitted a 1-star feedback through automated email for the 1st technician, but NO one followed up from Garneski. - I have NOT received any paperwork for membership that the 1st technician said I would receive via email. - There is NO refund $200 for Fall service (future), as its not part of their "policy", which they never sent out. - Agree there can be some profound technical issues, but its disappointing and disrespectful , and borderline devious and unethical for a business with perceived 5-star reviews to have such poor customer service, let alone a lack of technical expertise, especially during the Covid times. read more

I have used this company previously for a few basic maintenance jobs without problem and actually bought the annual service agreement. However, I recently used them when our heat pump fan wasn't working during cold weather. The tech diagnosed it as a condenser fan motor and said it was a special order part. He told us it was a $1400 special order. It was cold, so we agreed and they came about a week later to replace it. I just followed up with the owner because it seemed like a lot for the part and the 1.5 hrs of work. I asked for a breakdown of costs because the invoice didn't have any detail. After multiple requests, he finally told me - turns out the part was about $400 and they charged $1300 for 1.5 hrs of labor (note: got 20% off with agreement). He continued to explain to me how much it costs to pay health insurance, maintain vehicles, drive out to get the part, etc. If they had told us labor was $726 an hour for labor and that it wasn't the cost of the part, I would have definitely called someone else. We've been using Garneski Air Conditioning and Heating for about 12 years. They came highly recommended by a friend. They replaced our hot water heater and air conditioning unit for us. In addition, we have them come out twice a year for regular maintenance checks. Not once have I had a problem with any of the technicians. They text when they're on their way along with a picture of the tech who's coming. Not once have they told me that we've needed to have work done that wasn't necessary. They are all polite, wear shoe coverings when the come into the house, take care of our system, and explain things very well if I have a question. Everyone in the office is polite, friendly, and helpful. I highly recommend this company for anyone looking for heating and a/c needs. read more

I have been a customer of Garneski Air Conditioning & Heating for over 24 years. Frank and his team have never let me down. We have been through many seasons, a couple of a/c units and hot water heaters together. I have even put on an addition to one of my homes and Garneski and his team installed a new unit that could handle the new addition. They have never tried to oversell me on anything. I have always had a maintenance agreement on my units and always had the technicians out to check the units twice a year. I am sure that has paid off. The technicians are always friendly and extremely knowledgeable. They are trustworthy and care about the house, the service they are providing and the comfort of my home for me and my family. I found Garneski via Angie's List. They have a A rating so I decided to check them out. After almost three years, they are simply phenomenal. They replaced my entire HVAC unit in my townhome. They were very professional. They put down pads on the carpet so that the handtruck wheels wouldn't track on the floor. They where footies so they don't tread dirt on the carpet. And they took my old unit with them. The service was great. The only reason I don't give it five stars is that it's a bit pricy. But you pay for the service. read more

What started out as a scheduling mishap turned into a very positive experience. They got a tech out to my house despite some miscommunication and a possible cancellation, and that showed me that Garneski cares about its customers. Got us off on a solid footing. The tech was very professional, very thorough, and friendly. Even though it took a long time to diagnose the problem, he patiently worked it until he found a reason and was able to solve the core issue. I chose Garneski in part due to positive reviews here, and in part due to the business personally responding to both positive and negative reviews on Yelp. Kind of gave off that "small, local" feel and that was what I was looking for. I fond the prices to be reasonable as well. Just got back to work after having a service-tech at my house. The appointment window was 11-1. He showed up just after 11am. He quickly diagnosed the problem, fixed it and recommended another service to help with some other problems we've had with the A/C this summer. Having used Garneski a few times, I have to say they are always prompt, professional and get the job done. Charged me $280 for 10 minutes worth of work to my water heater, no parts, and it stopped working shortly after. I called their office and talked to the customers service manager about a more fair price for the first service, but was turned down and she felt justified in her position. These people installed a whole HVAC unit inside and out for over $6,000.00 a little over a year ago in my rental house and the compressor failed due to them improperly installing a long enough line set. We had them come out and look at it and they said they fixed it twice. Yesterday the compressor failed and they came out and said the compressor was covered but not the work and they wanted $1,900.00 for the work. I feel they should replace the compressor free of charge. I will never use this company again due to not standing behind their work they are incompetent and not trust worthy. read more

I have had these guys out a number of times but recently they attempted to charge me an exorbitant cost for a repair. I explained to them I had been recently laid off and money was a challenge at the moment. I received a quote for the repair for $2200.00 or order a whole new system for 9K-13K. I ordered a $50 dollar part from eBay and saved my family $2150.00. Thanks, Garneski for attempting to take advantage of an unemployed Covid19 affected American. I'm in my final weeks of pregnancy (and we have another baby in the house) and our place was heating up way too fast and no one was feeling that great. I initially contacted Garneski A/C last Monday morning when I woke up to find my heat was not working. Willie arrived around 1:30 that same afternoon and found that a sensor had tripped out. He then reset it, the gas furnace fired up, and then tripped back out again. He explained that he thought there might be a problem with my heat exchanger, after taking off a panel for a better view he was able to confirm it. It was pretty badly rusted and had a large split along the seam. Willie then took some photos of the data plate on my unit & sent them to Tim at the office and asked him to get back to me with an estimate for a replacement unit. Tim & Frank quickly had a written estimate sent to me the following morning with an excellent price which I couldn't pass up. I called Tim for some additional information on the new unit, all of which he happily provided. We then scheduled for the replacement unit to be installed 2 days later on Thursday morning. Right on time at 0730, Carlos, Luis & Li arrived to do the work Thursday morning. All 3 were very personable/friendly and made sure to protect my new carpet with protective walkway cloths. The team seemed to work very well together as a group, it took a bit of effort as the unit was installed in a pretty tight compartment which involved a bit of twisting & turning to get it out. Once the old unit was removed, they very thoroughly cleaned & vacuumed the area in which the new unit would be mounted. The new direct replacement unit was installed w/o the need for any customization, and, a new up to code gas valve & protective clog sensing drain line were installed in short order. I also received a new Honeywell thermostat with a wealth of customizable features as part of the price. I found that setting up the different cooling/heating schedules on the thermostat was very self intuitive and only took me a couple of minutes. It can also be controlled by WiFi with a free app which allows you to adjust the settings if you're away from home or on vacation. As a long retired HVAC/Energy Mgmt./Operating Engineer/Facilities Mgr. who is pretty picky about how things are done, I can state unequivocally that calling & hiring Garneski A/C & Heat to replace my HVAC unit was easily the best decision that I could have made. You can check my other Yelp ratings to see I'm not easily impressed, or, handing out stars w/o a valid reason to support them. I would highly recommend Garneski A/C & Heating to anyone who asks. This week, Garneski charged me $777 for a condenser fan motor that I realized after they left is available online -- the exact model -- for $83! They marked up the part by $694, and the entire service took only 40 minutes to complete. When I brought the issue to their attention, they stood by their outrageous pricing. They also charge $97 just to come out. I don't feel they they are trustworthy and strongly suggest taking your business elsewhere. read more

Based on the generally good reviews for this company, I purchased a service agreement for my heat pump and scheduled an initial check up visit. At 8 AM on the morning of my visit, I received a phone call from the main Garneski phone number, but when I answered the phone, no one was there. I called the Garneski phone number and talked to someone who had no idea why Garneski would be calling me, but agreed to find out and get back to me. A few minutes later, a DIFFERENT person from Garneski called me and said the tech called in sick and wanted to reschedule. We rescheduled for later that day. My subsequent attempts to contact Garneski were a series of calls not answered, calls not returned, etc. Finally, Annie, one of the people I talked to, told me that she wasn't really Garneski, that she was a call center who handled Garneski's overflow calls. Later that day, I did reach Cindy, Garneski's customer support person. In the interest of brevity, I won't go into the details of our conversation other than to say Cindy did not restore my faith in Garneski. So, I told Cindy that this many screw-ups before my first visit from Garneski was not a good sign and that I thought it best to cancel my service agreement, have Garneski refund my money, and I would find another HVAC company. Cindy said that Garneski does not refund service agreement charges. So, I'm now looking at a drawn out battle with Garneski and my charge card company to get my money back. The lesson for me was not to be mislead by reviews that are several years old. Those reviews reflect the company as it was years ago, not the company it is today. read more

I called Saturday regarding a problem with my AC. I left my information and was told it would be passed on to a tech or someone who would handle it. I mentioned it was not an emergency and that it could wait until Sunday or Monday. It didn't really bother me that I didn't hear from anyone Sunday as I had told them it wasn't an emergency, but I did end up calling them back anyway as the situation was getting progressively worse. They took my information again and that was it. I still didn't hear back from anyone Sunday. The next morning, still nothing. I called them again at 1015AM and was told that they were referring me to another company. I asked the young lady why and she couldn't give me a reason. Big mistake hiring this company for resolving a basic AC problem. My house was affected by a lighting creating issues on the 2nd floor AC unit. I called Garneski to schedule an appointment, the (technician came 1.5 hours late), I explained to him what happened and without making the effort to understand the whole picture, he indicated that the issue was on the AC unit outside (in less than 5 minutes he diagnosed the whole damage). He came back in to give me some technical explanations suggesting that the solution was to add fre-on, this would make it work, the cost was $650, but if I become a member, he would give me 20% discount, I decided to sing up, he added the freon and indicated that when I came back from work, my house would at the right temperature. When I came in the afternoon, the house was 95 degrees, I called them to ask them to come back since they problem was not resolve or they should refund my money, they said that if the comeback, it would be an extra charge of $180 to look for the leak was located and then and additional charge to fix it, they also indicate that they would not refund the money since the service was provided . My wife and I were so frustrated that deiced to call other company. The other company came over, they took the time to look at all the units (the one in the atic, the basement and outside) and explained to me that the issue was in the attic (no in the outside unit as Ganeski indicated). The reason was because the lighting caused a damage to the hot air sensor. They fixed the problem and now the house is at the right temperature. The bottom line here is that Garneski do not have knowledgeable technicians able to understand the whole picture before jumping to conclusions saying that I only needed to add freon. They are only concern about making ease money ripping customers off and make false promises pretending they are experts in the area. Their dishonesty caused me $452, time, and headaches. Do a favor to yourself, do no go to through the same experience and stay away from this company. I cannot tell you enough how frustrated I was with their horrible service. read more

My furnace went out during one of the coldest nights on record in the D.C. area. I called Garneski after hours and the tech Jimmy immediately called me back. He told me that they did not service oil furnaces, but nonetheless talked me through resetting the furnace and stayed on the line while I did it -- then offered to hang on to see if it reset! It worked -- the furnace came back on. I don't know of any other HVAC company in the area that would have taken the time to help me knowing that they wouldn't be getting my business. Willie arrived for the initial inspection of my non-operational heater, was very generous in answering my many questions, and laid out the different options I had in dealing with it; no sales pressure of any sort. Since the unit was 15 years old, I decided to have it replaced rather than attempt to patch it up. Pleasant experience with the office staff making arrangements for the installation, they arrived exactly when they said they would, the price was very fair, and I'm pleased so far with the performance of this new unit (although I do miss all the clanking sounds of the old one, this one is very quiet). There's another aging unit in the attic which no doubt will be reaching its expiration date sooner than later, so it's good to have finally found an HVAC company I can feel confidence in. read more

We contracted with Garneski to replace our entire oil heating and electric cooling system with new heat pumps and hot water heater. In addition, they sealed our ducts from the inside using a silicon duct sealing system. We rate them outstanding for every phase of their work: system design, installation, setup, explanation, and clean up. Before providing us a quote, they conducted a system design measuring the livable space and the amount and type of windows and doors, the duct work, and the type and quality of insulation; then entered the data into a modeling program. After discussing the results of the model and our needs, they proposed the system and hot water heater. The system is two zone electric, with variable speed heat pumps and blowers. They arrived as expected and customized the installation to fit our schedule and coordinated their installation of our heat pumps with the group that drained and filled our old 2,000 gallon oil tank. They were on time and completed within the four days as expected. They sealed the ducts and installed the systems in such a way that we were only out of the house for 1 1/2 days. We had as many as four of their team onsite at any time. They were all very professional and very responsive to questions about the installation and operation of the new equipment. We are very pleased with the system as it now provides us with consistent heat and humidity, and allows us to control when and how the system uses the heat pump and the electric heat (at a certain low temperature, electric heat is required to supplement or take over from the heat pump). It also allows us to control the system from my smart phone or computer; and provides electric usage information to us. Very impressive. Finally, we had a very good sales experience with Garneski. Frank and Tim provided all the information we needed, were very professional, and were good about following up to answer our questions. We have been in this house since 1992 and have had many contractors working for us, including heating and cooling companies that worked on our old oil furnaces. We have had both good and bad experiences - a lot to compare to. None beat the Garneski team in all phases of such a large project and we wholeheartedly recommend them to everyone. read more

I asked if they had any recommendation of another company that did and while the receptionist did not she offered to call the owner and see what she could find out. Terrible. Called over a week ago, and requested priority service for HVAC repair and potential entire HVAC replacement, which is a big $ job that should have been very attractive. Promised dispatch would try to have someone try to come that day before the weekend, otherwise worst right after the weekend. More than a week passed with not just no response, but a house of almost 90 degree temperatures for more than a week, in the summer. And we recently called back after waiting a week, and called at just about 5pm. When the system finally could connect with someone, and we told her the problem without any response or fix, she could not even get ahold of the owner or supervisor or anyone, even after trying. This appears to be a completely terrible company who does not care about the customers and their suffering, or even to try and do their own job, even with the opportunity of big money. read more

Awful- they started work on my parents system. They were very confusing setting the appointment- gave me a reasonable quote to fix the system. First they claimed they needed a special tool as a reason they could not finish the work in one day. One of their repair crew indicated he'd finished the job and there would be another coming out to fInalize the job. The second person told me the I needed an entIre new system and that the Carrier unit that I had was a piece of junk with many known issues. (They are a Carrier Dealer so what a way to stand behind your product). I asked for a bill for what they did and was going to go to another dealer and he wrote on the bill that they did what they could but that they had told me that it was a piece of junk and needed to be repaired. They would not remove this comment. I called and asked to speak to the owner and the person answering the phone indicated he would not speak to me. Awful company, awful representation of their product and awful people handling clients. Never again! They stuck me once but taught me a lesson read more

Carlos came to my house to check out the problem with my gas furnace. He showed up on time, was polite and performed a very thorough examination and diagnosed the problem as a bad blower motor that needed replacement. Although he conducted himself in a very professional manner, I ended up using another reputable company to make the repair because the cost for the exact same job was significantly less than what Carlos had quoted. How much less? $516 less! This company is way overpriced and, for this reason, I do not recommend them. read more

I scheduled an appointment with Garneski AC to do maintenance on my ac after reading the reviews. Well, they missed the first appointment, and when we called to inquire, there were no apologies and no returned call. Given that I had bought a yelp deal, I rescheduled. The tech showed up on time. For almost $100 and about 25 minutes of looking over the ac, I was told the system works but I should have two jobs done. So basically I paid to have someone TELL me what maintenance is needed, but no work was actually performed. Even though I didn't use the full amount on my voucher I won't be calling them back. read more

Terrible customer relations and results. They put a new unit in my attic that dripped water onto the bricks in front of my house. They denied that the drippings were from the AC and convinced me that it was from the mortar seeping. I paid for brick cleaning on several occasions. Finally on a particularly humid day I could see the dripping. I called a different contractor who relaid the pipe and, lo and behold, no more more ugly brick work.
