Love everything about this place. Gelato 10/10- closest gelato to remind us of being in Rome we have found in our area thus far. We come here all the time as Encinitas locals. Bummed for summer to come around, because they will be busy all the time! But it will be worth the wait. Your mouth will water looking at all the slices in the window. These are not your typical pizza options. I had a slice with potato, prosciutto and truffle oil. It was very tasty and the crust was crispy. It reminds me of a flatbread as it's a rectangle shape. My friend had the mortadella with pistachio nuts. She tasted mine and said it was better. Absolutely amazing gelato! I was first attracted to walking inside because of the beautiful display of food in the windows and to my absolute delight when I walked in, I saw they also had gelato. There was only one person working in the entire place...the poor guy was running back-and-forth working so very hard. He was very pleasant, greeted us with a huge smile, but we did have to wait quite a bit to have the gelato served. Seeing how busy he was and the fact that he was alone, we really weren't disturbed by the wait but I do think he could use some help, especially on a busy Saturday like it was. I definitely want to go back to try some of the other food that they had and will absolutely be back for the gelato! They have tons of seating in a separate attached building and in the center courtyard. The space can really accommodate large groups. We walked by this cute place and decided to give it a try and we were happy we did! Such a cute store with a pizza station, coffee shop and a gelato corner. We liked how they sold pizza by the slice so we got a few to try. The pizza isn't your typical pizza base, it's more like a focaccia bread base and it was really good. Having Roman-style pizza in Encinitas is something I am very grateful for. They use fresh ingredients and the dough is reminiscent of the slices you could get on Via dei Condotti in Rome. Now, I'm going to let you in on my pizza hack. All you need is a microwave, a cast iron skillet and some cooking oil. First, go in to the shop and pick out the slices that look good to you. Tell them NOT to put them in the oven and that you'll reheat them at home. When you get home, put your slices, one at a time, into the microwave. I usually go for 60-90 seconds, which raises the overall internal temp of the slice just right. Meanwhile, use a paper towel to spread a small amount of oil in the skillet and heat it to medium-high temp. You can also shake a pinch of salt into the pan. Once the slice is done microwaving, quickly transfer into the skillet and move it around for 1-2 minutes or until the bottom gets that crispness - which you can test for by lifting the slice up and tapping your metal spatula against the bottom of the slice. When ready, remove the pizza and enjoy this slice of heaven (see what I did there?) with a crisp crust along with a chewy top. Wash, rinse, repeat. You're welcome. read more

Honestly, I was bummed when Angelo's, the burger joint that was previously located here, when out. I didn't absolutely love their burgers but I respected how long they had been around. They were a landmark of sorts. But if Angelo's had to be replaced, welcome to yet another venture by the Buona Forchetta folks who can apparently do no wrong. So what can you get here? Well, a little bit of everything. They've got a ton of different Roman-style pizza slices, they've got delicious gelato, they've got a coffee bar, and they've got a diner with a pretty extensive menu, including burgers. The pizza is really good. It's cut into squares and you get two squares with each order. They are fluffy slices but still very filling. The ingredients are excellent. They had one style with pumpkin--seriously--that I thought I would hate but ended up loving. The ingredients on the slices are crazy fresh. They also aren't overloaded with cheese, although I have never complained about too much cheese on anything. We also tried the gelato. It's pricey but you get a couple of big scoops. The flavors are not traditional but the stuff is delicious. You can get samples, too. There's seating inside or you can take your grub to go. Last time I went to the Taco Stand this place was still being renovated. This little restaurant is a great find for those who have or have not been to Italy. They have pretty much all the food you would like to try when you go to Italy, paninis, pizza, gelato and affogato or cortado. The pizza and gelato reminded me of walking in the streets near St. Peter's Square. Delicious slices of za. Cute little spot on 101 in enci. Didn't try the gelato or coffee but tried slices of the cacio e pepe and prosciutto arabiata pizzas. Personally i think $5.95 per slice is a bit excessive, which is why i dinged one star. The pizza slices are about 6 bites and $1 a bite just feels kind of crazy even in this inflationary world we live in. I think$3.95 is probably more realistic but the pizza is damn good and the ingredients are super fresh. Love the focaccia crust. Would definitely try it again. read more

This place is amazing. Immediately upon walking in Oasis is playing in the speakers, off to a great start. Found out the pizza is handmade and all of the recipes are created by the owner himself. He has been doing this for 15 years, and the gelato was incredible. I had the Equadorian Chocolate flavor. GP Diner is finally open in Encinitas! If you are not aware, the "GP" stands for Gelati & Peccati and yes, the Gelati & Peccati of North Park, San Diego of Buona Forchetta. I have to say, the community and surrounding area of Encinitas are very fortunate to GP Diner close to home. I had the Creamy Artisan Olive Oil with a Citrus Zest and their famous Roman Pizza known as Taglio Pizza. I went with two of my favorites, the lasagna bolognese and the sausage and mushroom. Both slices came with that terrific crust taglio pizza offers. It was crisp and light on the outside, with a soft airy center, and a bit of a chew. The lasagna bolognese slice was delicious. The meaty bolognese had great flavor. I am a huge fan of fennel sausage, so when every I see it on the menu somewhere, I go for it. The one they make here for their pizza is mild yet tasty. Great Roman Pizza. The staff members were all very upbeat and friendly. Its advertised as open 11 am on Wednedays but we got there and was told to come back at 1pm. I checked today 3 times to confirm time they open. Its 5pm now and no answer to the phone. When the owner is not present its unreliable. Food excellent when owner present and awesome expresso but last visit not so good, no expesso, food lukewarm and server doesnt speak English and is a lazy SOB. Their flatbread pizzas are some of my favorite! There is a huge selection to choose from, ranging from your normal to unique slices. I forgot their names, but I tried their slice that had artichokes and spicy salami and a funghi (I think that's how it's spelled) slice. The one with the spicy salami was easily one of my favorites where it had a surprising amount of spice! The pizzas themselves were full of flavor, had an amazing crisp, and nice fluff to the inside. I also tried their slice that had potatoes and that was just as good!
