As much as I love the TT, I hate the prep/service departments. Things that should have been found before we picked it up, were not corrected including the broken propane cover that was pointed out and told it would be replaced (wasn't). Never called manufacturer for warranty work or followed thru on it. Ended up taking to another dealer. In 2 days, we've had more information. The one thing we needed fixed was the frig as it wouldn't work on propane. Turned out to be a loss wire. Why couldn't their techs find it? Won't recommend going to General RV read more

BEWARE. Nice folks when you buy the camper but don't expect any kind decent servicing from that department. We bought our camper this year. 2021 Wildwood Heritage Glen by Forest River. Beautiful camper. The problems started as soon as we took the 1st trip. Water leaked into the trailer while driving in a rain storm. I took it in. They said it was coming from the front belly doors. I told them no, it's leaking in under the slide. They ordered a new door and seal for the front door. Next trip guess what?? More water. A lot this time. They said it was the other box door and replaced it. Nope. Next trip.. same thing!! They said it was the man door seal and fixed it. NOPE!! Just got home from strip and only drove in the rain the last 15 minutes. It's a good thing because...you guessed it! Soaked inside. We have had a few other problems which I would expect but at this point I'm done. Social media time and an attorney soon if they don't get their heads out of their butts and do right by me. NEVER BUY A CAMPER HERE UNLESS YOU DON'T EXPECT OR NEED A SERVICE DEPARTMENT WORTH A $&#%. read more

Giving one star to this RV company is to much. I'm pasting a partial review from one other customer, and there is many more like this. Anyone considering General RV must to do a YouTube search. "General RV Fox News" It details multiple counts of fraud. My experience supports the news story. They stole my 5,000 deposit. They didn't allow me to test drive the RV, I proceeded with the purchase anyway. After I sign the papers they told me the they will mail me the documents, I never got to see finance rates or nothing, So after discussing this with my wife, I decide to cancel the deal the same day, Never took possession of the RV. How they still in business I don't know? They are very good on continually commuting Froud to people who spend there savings to purchase one of there RV's. I hope people read this and I'm able to help them make the right descension and not buy anything from this company. read more

We just purchased our 3rd RV. This is the first one from General RV and the best experience we have had. Our salesman Justin was great and knew which floor plans to show us. When it came to the dreaded finance part, we were surprised by the ease of it. We had the best finance person we have ever experienced. BEWARE!!!!! We were shopping for fifth wheels for the first time and decided to stop at this location. Patrick and his customer service skills were great. He's kind and personable. He nearly convinced us to go through with a purchase of a Grand Design Reflection 337RLS. It was because of him that we felt really good about making a purchase at RV Center initially. Everything was great until he transferred us to Michael Basso to close the deal. Michael Basso is an unappealing and aggressive man who has little social skills and tact. We sat in his office where water was heavily leaking from the ceiling onto his carpet where he did nothing to resolve the issue. I was getting wet and it was a disgusting and careless impression to have on customers with your own building leaking while possessing no desire to rectify it. Especially in your own office space! He didn't even check to see if there were ways to make us -- the prospective customers (getting wet) more comfortable. This was the first major red flag. If you cannot take care of your own space / roof -- how are we supposed to feel secure in any camper or RV that we purchase from you with such low self value for yourself. He makes the space quite uncomfortable with his demeanor. They also make you pay before you get an approval from financing and sign on the dotted line before knowing what your rate is going to be. He's a shark and I found it very hard to trust him in the process. He's not intelligent yet is very condescending. It's unjustified and reveals how capped he is when it comes to kindness and basic social cues and awareness. When he went to charge my card for the initial deposit of $6,500 -- it was Sunday and my bank has a daily limit. So it wouldn't go through and my loving partner offered to take care of it. Mike Basso then points in my face and says "you owe him the rest of the money" and then turned to swipe my partner's card. It was so abrupt and literally disgusting. My partner was biting his tongue because it was awkward and misplaced. Mike Basso has no respect and carries himself like a slob. Eventually, he said I would need a co-signer because the purchase was viewed as a non-essential "toy" such as a yacht and I was not being approved for the full amount. Knowing that this was a sign from God to RUN while I had the chance -- I didn't even bother moving forward with the process and called to pull out. On the phone - he mentioned he wanted to "help me" (aka his pockets) and sent my personal information (name, address, ssn etc) over to a "friend" to apparently help me with a credit approval. WHAT?! It was totally inappropriate and invasive. I was done at this point and told him I wanted OUT. He was trying to convince me to wait on the word from his "friend in florida" over the phone with me and took several jabs at my attorney who I had spoken to prior about the situation. He ignorantly said: "You need to get a new attorney..." when I mentioned our conversation about Illinois buyers remorse law in case he tried to continue to swindle us out of the deposit. He finally emailed me a few hours later and said he would refund me. I said gave him the card numbers through email (not secure!) per his request. I then asked for a receipt of the deposit refund and he responded to the email with "DONE......" and has not sent the receipt and it's been nearly 3 business days now. DO NOT WORK WITH MIKE BASSO. Again, Patrick is great -- he is on the sales team. It's just unfortunate that he's being managed by such a grotesque monster like Mike Basso. It made the experience feel tainted. WAY WAY over priced!!!! Not worth our 70 mile drive to find out that the RV's that we were interested in were either pending sale or sold. They need to be quicker at updating the website. Then when we did find a camper we liked, they steered us away from it and tried to sell us a brand new one because it wasn't priced much higher. It just seemed like they keep the nice "used" camper on the lot to lure people in and trick them into buying the very expensive newer ones. Not good sales ethics!!!!! read more

Bought a 2020 Fleetwood here and the sales team was great. Got a good deal and they took care of things as needed during the buying process. My experience with service hasn't been great at all. I had a bad experience with my initial service contact. I had sent many emails to John Gerhardt and his response time was terrible and he soon disappeared. I found out he either quit or was fired. That explained that. I was then given another email and name so I sent an email and response time was obviously better than John's but with the work load she had it took a few days to get back to me. I understood the delay there but obviously as a client its not ideal. It may have been a wiser decision to have John's superior take on the clients that he poorly managed and left behind. The work that I paid for was not performed completely and left me in a bind that cost me time and money. I spent 3 hours in the freezing cold back in November trying to winterize a brand new coach that was not manufactured properly (winterizing valve misinstalled or not installled) and now I spent another 3 hours in the freezing cold in February diagnosing and repairing the hose that was left off while performing the winterization. Also there were 2 stripped screws and 1 missing screw in the wet bay (adding insult to injury). I'm out a whole lot more than the $410 I had paid as my time is valuable. I gave the dealer the opportunity to make this riight by issuing me a refund and they took two days to offer me some store credit. I didn't pay them $230,000 in "store credit" so that doesn't work for me. A few hundred bucks lost them my business and future coach purchases. read more

RUN FOR THE HILLS....If I could give zero stars I would. We purchased our RV from General RV at the Trade show on February 18th - they were VERY accommodating at that time because they were making a sale. Since then, it's been like pulling teeth to get a return call. We have still not taken possession of our RV due to MANY delays and inadequacies on their end of things. After purchase, we went to the dealership in Huntley, IL to do another walk through and take some measurements. We had previously called and spoken to Karen, in the parts department, because we decided that we may want to add a dishwasher - this was about a week before we arrived at their location. We never received a call stating any prices. When we stopped by the parts department and spoke to Karen, she had no recollection of the conversation until about 5 minutes later to which she still had no pricing for us. At this time we also requested pricing to add roll out shelving. Again, no phone call back. We made numerous attempts to contact them and no return phone call. We then had to call the sales person, who was from out of state, to get anyone to call us back. In the meantime, I had left a message for Bizmark, the sales manager one week prior to calling our salesman. I had to threaten cancelling our order to get a phone call back. Then Bizmark calls and doesn't even apologize for not returning my phone call a week ago, instead, tells me he just got my message and was calling me back. To which I called him out on that and told him he only called me because he got his butt reamed by the sales agent. I could go on and on about this nightmare but there wouldn't be enough room to do so. Unfortunately, we are unable to back out of our contract, because we would. GO ELSEWHERE to buy your RV. We are still waiting for updates as to when they will have the issues with our RV fixed and ready for delivery. BTW, there was a very noticeable dent in the rear end of the 5th wheel and I would have thought they would have brought such a thing to our attention, but no, we had to advise them of this issue. Before I am going to make a large purchase, you first need to sell me yourself. That's where they failed. We have never purchased a camper before and the salesman definitely didn't care to offer us much help or insight. Nobody really looks forward to dealing with salesmen, but what happened here was pretty bunk. First, the place is ginormous and has tons of inventory (and accessories that costs a good 2x-3x what Amazon charges, btw). Arrive and get told to wait for a salesman , as opposed to invited to look around. Not a big fan, but ok. Eventually a salesman finds us, and I'm pretty exact about what I'm looking for- something half ton towable- ideally with a dry weight under 5000lbs- with a queen size bed/ no bunks. No budget is given, but I show him the Winnebago Minnie that is currently our leading contender. He grunts "never heard of if" and then half heartedly shows us two super crappy low end trailers. "Umm, these aren't really our style". Well style and travel trailers don't mix, he says. What? You just have ugly grandma stock man. "We want stainless sinks" Laughs. You aren't gonna find that in these trailers. Umm, show us nicer ones? We said we wanted light, not cheap. Every other lightweight trailer in this class we've seriously considered has stainless steel sinks. He lets us in one more underwhelming trailer and then basically yells "see you later" as he ditches us and picks up some retirees instead. Screw that guy and screw this place. Just because we aren't buying a granny coach or a big tacky toy hauler doesn't mean we want to look at garbage. We just finished looking at a 30k livin lite else where. Don't show us $13k corrugated garbage. Will gladly spend my money elsewhere. Would much rather deal with pushy salesmen as opposed to condescending jerks. read more

We purchased a Winnebago Revel and picked it up in March of 2018. We paid all registration fees but the dealer still hasn't sent our registration to the state of California where we live. It is now September of 2018. We had to cancel our travel plans into Canada because we don't have plates. Additionally, we have had to explain to numerous policemen who have pulled us over due to expired temporary tags. This dealer won't even return our calls. We have tried multiple times over the past 6 months. We have tried to involve Winnebago as well but no one is making any progress. We get SO many people asking where we purchased our Revel because they wish to buy one and unfortunately we cannot recommend this dealer to anyone. Buyer Beware...We are first time Rv buyers, but fully knowledgeable as we did our research. At first Glance, everyone seemed polite and friendly but it was only a facade. The salesman that was appointed to us had us put a deposit on a rv we really liked, after that, it was nothing but crickets. It was hard to reach the salesman when we had questions. We had an inspector check the rv out and it had some issues that needed to be fixed prior to closing. The manager nonchalantly said it was of no concern cosmetic issues that can be fixed later on, but we were being rushed to sign, seal and deliver the next day. We canceled this deal asap and couldn't put this behind us fast enough. One positive note, we did get our deposit back. If it's like this through the buying process, we can only imagine when servicing the rv. This place is not professional and has no integrity they don't care about the customer, once they have your money your on your own. Read all reviews from yelp, google and pissedconsumer.com. I have been going back and forth on purchasing an RV for a long time. I stopped in on a Sunday to check out RVs. Walked in and there were 2 girls sitting at the front counter neither acknowledged me by saying hi or good morning. I had to say hi, I'm interested in checking out RVs, can I go browse the lot to which I was told. No, you need a sales rep for insurance purposes, but you can check out the 2 RVs inside. Okay, I'm cool with that and understand. I go look at the 2 RVs inside and ask if any reps can assist me. No sorry they're all busy. (Rolling my eyes) there is a line of 5 salesmen SITTING on their CELL PHONES, but okay thanks for nothing. Waste of time. I do not recommend this place. They clearly have no sense of what customer service is. I'd really love to know how those salesmen make money sitting on their asses doing nothing. What a joke! I purchased and brand new 2021 outback 342cg trailer from the Huntley store in Illinois. You would think the purchase should have been exciting but like most of the comments you read, everyone was very cold, like I was a bother to them. Mine was a internet sale from the Michigan store and I had to pay to have it transferred to illinois with this dollar amount going towards the purchase if we bought it. Bill in service took us through the trailer and at the time of the purchase the trailer had a Jensen Tv in it, but when it was delivered it had a TLC tv in it with a Jensen tv remote. How do you purchase something and they take something out of it or swap it with something else, with out notifying you. Probably a cheaper TV. Now it's a run around with every Tom, Dick and Harry to get a remote for the swaped TV. First I think if you purchase something nothing should be changed without reason or notification as to why. We were also missing the handles to our gray and black tanks. Paying for this in cash i would have thought I would get good support or just a question answered. At the time of the sale they want you to think their there for you but when it comes down to it no one wants to help you. I was told to buy a universal remote when i called them to explain the wrong remote. I questioned my gray and black tanks I was told you'll figure it out. I was also told that they would work with me on swamping out the theater seating for a single recliner, but when it was all said and done they couldn't do that because I purchased this and now the furniture was used, a brand new trailer never been pulled or used but the furniture is used now. I Should have seen the writing on the wall and left after the rude treatment we got from our sales guy which was no help through out this whole or deal. I feel for anyone buying from them if you only spend 45k and under. Seems the only ones getting good service are those who buy big rigs and spend $150k or more. I am following up with someone in charge of this place for a excuse in why the TV WAS SWAPPED OUT AFTER I PURCHASED THE TRAILER.. Husband walked in this morning and was informed by receptionist they normally need appointments (totally understandable). A salesman was available and began talking to him about what we were looking for which we knew and yes, we're going to finance and put 10% down. Salesman was going to start showing him units but ran up to grab keys and returned saying he spoke to manager and manager wants him to "do this a bit backwards", 1st run credit and then show units. Not only is that discriminating and insulting but it was done in front of others walking in. Husband was appalled and left, ignoring the salesman's plea to let him return to chat with manager. We own our home outright, we have very little debt after years of working hard get here, this is a fun thing we are investing in to celebrate life after his 3 years of battling cancer, on and on. Rockford has a GREAT friendly place SUNNY ISLANDS RV (salesman is Mike) who makes you feel like family and is excited to show you through any of the units. General RV, Huntley, IL Your dealership in Huntley, Illinois is what my complaint is about. We are former customers as well soon and soon to be 80 years old. We signed many forms just to see the vehicle that was driven from Corporate in Michigan to the Huntley location. We were not given any copies. The forms were held by the sales manager until the vehicle arrived. Is this your normal practice? How can a sales manager lie by saying he had our down payment when it was refunded to us by Corporate? Is this your normal practice? And why is he allowed to threaten former customers like us to buy a vehicle we did not want? He threatened to turn in papers we signed to obtain a loan so we would have to start paying for it. He then said we would have to pay for every day we had the vehicle on the lot. Is this also your normal practice? Then we could not see the vehicle until after we signed the final papers. Is this also your normal practice? We do not believe any of these tactics are even legal. If this is how your company operates, then my complaint is justified and that is why we will never buy anything from your company again. I could never give anyone a recommendation, and I am friends with many people in Del Webb in Huntley. You have done this to yourselves by allowing your sales managers to say and do whatever they can just to get a sale. Was it worth the sale with your deceptions and lies to have such a horrible reputation you have in Huntley? Very sad! read more

I would actually give General RV a zero if I could. We bought an expensive RV about a year and a half ago. We have had nothing but problems with it from day one. The service area is the worst, they don't follow up with you, they don't order parts when they say the are, they are no help whatsoever. Our RV has been in their service center for over a month and we still don't know when it will be fixed. This time Yolanda (service area) told us the refrigerator would not be covered as the warranty had expired. After doing some research with Samsung we find out it is covered. She just didn't want to deal with the warranty and was just hoping we would pay for it. I would never recommend buying an RV or having one serviced at this place. Go someplace else! read more

We are shopping for a new 5th wheel and checked their website last night and found 4 RVs we wanted to look at. We drove over 3 hours one way today and when we arrived we were told we were not allowed to just walk around the lot because they keep all the units locked (even though it's secure compound) so we had to be shown around by a salesman. After meeting with Kyle and giving him the model numbers of the 4 RVs we were interested in, he told us they did not have any of the 4 on their lot. I told him that's the whole reason we drove over 3 hours one way to their lot. He showed us a few others he thought we would like but we did not (and they were all unlocked). Then before we left he told us if we would put down a $1,000 deposit they could bring over one of the units we wanted to see from their other dealership!!!! Are you kidding me, you want me to give you a thousand dollars just to bring over an RV that your website said you already had !! We wasted an entire day and a full tank of gas for nothing. We will never purchase anything from General again, if we need anything for the Winnebago we'll find it online much cheaper. General has a huge mark up on parts and service! My family was driving west on a long trip and both our AC units went out. The best solution was to drive to the Huntley location and have them serviced. Upon arrival Scott greeted me at the door, pulled our coach in immediately and discovered the problem with his team members. They replaced both units under warranty and got us back on the way all within an hour and a half. They even stayed late to do it. There are customer service people and then there are customer service heroes. Scott is the second one! read more

General rv is hit or miss. Sometimes you'll find a really good salesperson and sometimes a bad one. The parts counter is the same. Sometimes you'll find a knowledgeable person behind the counter and sometimes not so much. I have purchased 3 campers from General rv in huntley since the first week they opened for business. We started with a pop up then a small bunkhouse. We knew we wanted a larger bunkhouse but at that time (2018) the salesman was extremely rude so we left and purchased a new camper from Camping world. This last time (06-2022) we spoke with a great salesman there and bought a new fifth wheel. 2022 Crusader lite 28rl. No kids so no bunkhouse. Everything went smooth from beginning to end. If you do go to General rv huntley speak to Mike. Even the walk through went great. We didn't keep one bad experience to stop us from going back. Mike helped us find the perfect RV and at a great price! Again thank you Mike Jones and everybody there for making our last experience at General rv a great one. read more

We were thrilled to find the perfect travel trailer for us at the RV show with a cheap price attached to it. After giving us the slap-in-the-face price for our trade in of only $500 we should have run but decided to see what numbers they'd come up with. Our salesman walked us over to one of the finance guys. After about 30 minutes of the finance guy running back & forth to the bunch of guys sitting by the computers he came back with a monthly payment. We told him that it was about $30 higher than what we could pay and he told us that he should be able to get us close to or around that. Fast forward 2 weeks and he finally got back to me via email with a monthly price $135 over what we said we could pay/$105 over the price he quoted us at the show. I told him that we will put a bigger down payment down and he said the numbers won't be different. What!?!? I asked him if he even ran it through the lenders again but he wouldn't answer that. I had to spell it out to him with simple math how it would be different and after he game back with a price that was still ridiculous he told he just presents the numbers and that we'd have to work with the salesman to get a better deal. Obviously this guys was new because he kept telling me to go to our bank. Silly me for thinking that a finance guy doesn't do financing. We will never deal with these guys again! read more

One of the worst sales rep experience of our lives. From the minute we sat down he was pushy. They were extremely annoyed with our requests to view campers and at the end got a phone call and said he needed to take it because it was someone who was actually buying something!! We left immediately after he walked away and on our way out saw him sitting in his cubical doing nothing! Extremely lazy and rude and he was training a new sales rep!!! We were there for maybe 30 minutes and viewed maybe 5 campers and every time we showed interest in a camper he would get annoyed that he had to open another. Needless to say he succeeded in getting rid of us and ensured that he won't have to see us again. Hopefully for General RVs sake this is not their standard sales policy. read more
