Strongly considering purchasing an rv in the near future & just started researching different models. My husband suffers from a heart condition, so we're very "in tune" with Coronavirus safety & don't go into any business without knowing their policy on the matter. General RV's statement, online (says they abide by ALL CDC suggestions) made us comfortable enough to go there. Quite surprised, upon entering, that NOT ONE of their employees was wearing a mask, nor maintaining a 6ft. distance. We immediately walked out. I wish I could give a zero to the service dept. THEY ARE HORRIBLE! After you buy they are done with you. I could write a book. They will never return a phone call, never. They will not fix anything, only make it worse. They lie, tell you what you want to hear. How does Scott the manager keep his job here? How? I was a supervisor for 35 years and I never seen anything like this. I have to drive to Indiana for service after I bought my unit in Huntley. They will keep your unit for days and it will just sit in their lot. When we get time we will fix it. That is their attitude. They caused me so much trouble for 12 months. We just bought a travel trailer from General RV and we couldn't be happier. The price of the trailer was excellent, our salesman, Victor, was knowledgeable, efficient and pleasant without being pushy and Brad, the finance manager, was very low key and organized. Randy walked us through the trailer, explaining in great detail how everything worked. Randy made some excellent suggestions that will make our camping experience more enjoyable. Leon in parts helped me choose accessories I needed-I even got a discount on the parts! Their technicians are hard working and competent. Terrible experience trying to obtain pricing and information from dealership. Sales person and staff were not responsive despite promising to get information to me based on the specs I provided. Yesterday 5/24/2019 we were heading out for our first trip of the year and found that our brakes on our trailer were not working. We stopped at General RV in Huntley IL and even though they were fully booked they hooked us up with Drew. Drew got us in as soon as possible and within a few hours we were back on the road. And we didn't purchase our unit from them. I cannot say enough about how we were treated, They let us bring our dogs inside the waiting lounge, brought them treats and water and everyone was so kind and professional. If we ever buy another trailer our first stop will be General RV. They really went above and beyond for us. We will definitely be working with them if we ever buy another. read more

We bought our 5th wheel toy hauler from General RV. When purchasing everyone was helpful and kind. Since we drove it off the lot we have had nothing but problems. Not to mention Service Department never calls back, our salesman never calls back. Yesterday we drove our gator down the ramp and it fell through it. We had to buy extended warrenty due to the size of the loan so we did and we have used the ramp 3 times and our gator falls through it. No one calls us back, no one even cares and we are leaving with it today and we have no back gate. General RV has terrible customer service. They don't follow through or follow up with their customers and they dont care that they dont stand behind the product they sell. I would never purchase another trailer from them, much less anything else. They treat their customers poorly. read more

I took my used RV into General for a overall inspection of the vehicle, they did a great job as they turned around by RV in 5 hours and did a great job as I have an extended Warrenty and my service writer Debi was just fantastic. She did all the work contacting the Warrenty company for me. I will be using them for all my service. read more

We have taken our new Imagine 2800BH in numerous times for the same issue. We have no faith in their ability to remedy the numerous issues. We've had problems with the axles since September 2018. We've had problems with the mattress since September 2018. We keep bringing it back for more pictures, more data, but somehow it still isn't done. I'm sick and tired of hauling the trailer back and forth for the same bloody issues! You can't leave it there, because they have too many other RVs they want to sell to unsuspecting customers without being able to repair them either! read more

While traveling through Chicago on I90 I, hundreds of miles from home, I discovered my brake lights and turn signals on my travel trailer were not working. Fortunately I was only a few miles from the nearest RV dealer which happened to General RV. It could not have been a better experience for a lousy situation. Within 15 minutes of arriving and explaining the situation, the service department was diagnosing the problem and contacting Keystone for authorization for warranty repairs (a process that usually takes a few days). Securing authorization the repair was done and we were back on the road in a couple of hours. The service personnel were incredible. From the service writer to the technicians the situation was handled in an extremely professional and friendly manner. It turned what could have been a disaster in to a rather pleasant experience. read more

Once again, General RV fails to support their industry and after being paid for warranty work, wants you to pay again because they could not fix it... WOW " The manager's name is Scott as he is fully aware of your concern. He is one of many persons who has informed me that we will not work on sealants or anything out of warranty without payment." My awning has leaked since we took possession... they claimed to have fixed it - twice under payment from Keystone, and twice apparently free.... but guess what it still leaks. KEYSTONE is trying to help but this place is a nightmare.... They cannot find proper repair persons, and want you to pay for work they already say they fixed!! again... WOW After the 2nd fix (under warranty) they mentioned that it might be defective, do you think they would have called Keystone - NO - Now, this is what I got instead... "If you feel that we have not done the proper fix as it is still a concern and you want to have the entire awning system replaced as defective you must address that with Keystone as they have built and warrantied the unit." DO NOT BUY FROM GENERAL RV but more importantly - don't take it there for repairs... they will rip you off!! read more

Worst fucking place I have ever been to, between a salesman that when asked a question his answer was "I don't have a clue, you probably know more about these things than I do" as he was laughing. When in financing the finance guy put in all this extra money for service warranty, roadside assistance, tire warranty etc.... totaling almost $7K in upgrades, which we didn't approve and he never went over a single dollar amount for any of it. So we get the camper home and load everything up in it and they gave us the wrong keys for the storage compartments so we can't lock them. Talked to manager said all I need to do is bring the keys back and they will fix the problem. So we drive up there to re-do our financing and get the keys fixed just for them to tell me I need to bring the camper in to get the right keys. First time using the camper the weekend after purchase, the slide will not go back in. Fine it happens, try and tell me that they can't get it in for weeks, talk to a manager and got it in the next day. Great, they fix it and think I'm good to go. Bring it home to winterize it the following day and yes the slide out is not working again not even 24 hrs later. After several attempted calls to service with no answer I call and ask the receptionist to walk over there and get someone to answer the phone. Guy just tells me there is nothing they can do at the moment to call back Monday. So I call back Monday (same problem with no one answering a phone) and tell them I'm tired of driving 70 miles and 5-6 tolls each way. Also the key situation was not resolved and told they will order me new keys. Cool, when will I get them I asked, as I want to winterize it and get the storage doors locked before it goes to storage for the winter. Their answer is I have no idea. Said parts has to order the keys and when they get to it then they can probably let me know at that point. So for all the hassle I say hey why don't you guys winterize it when I bring it back again for the slide problem and I'll be happy with that for all the hassle. Not asking much, there answer was absolutely not. Moral of the story avoid General Rv at all cost. read more

Purchase and finance was great. Very disappointed with service (lack of) department. Bought new travel trailer in October 2015, been back three times for repairs, always the same answer, "NOT covered under warranty". Even bought the best package finance department offered. Called to cancel extended warranty and look for a better repair and maintenance shop. Again, sales was great, service department SUCKS. read more

Paid over $300 to have them look over our trailer and fix the electrical problems. We went on our vacation and NO electricity!! Had to stay with relatives that had no room. Let me start off by saying we read the reviews on line and were a little nervous dealing with General. We are used to dealing with a much smaller dealership and was nervous about working with such a big dealership. Today we went in for our walkthrough and I have to tell you...the entire staff was incredible. Every single item on our list was taking care of. We felt like we were working with a small dealership. I bought my RV 6 wks ago and have been on the road fulltime for about 4 wks now problem-free so far. The sales process was smooth, price was as expected for unit I wanted - not a bargain but not outrageous either & salesperson got me parts credit in store. The walk-through was thorough & I was able to video tape it for reference. The parts selection is not extensive & some things were high but most were same as online prices. The only hitch was fast-talking finance manager (Anthony) who charged me for GAP insurance despite having signed that I didn't want it. He also signed me up for higher %age loan than I think is realistic. Since I'm going to pay it off soon- simple interest loan so no downside to early payoff - it's a moot point for me - but next time I'll have financing setup prior to purchase myself if necessary. Overall however they carry the best models on market & sales people don't pressure you. They also offer informative FREE seminars on various aspects of RVing. I would go back here if ever in market to buy/trade RV again. read more

While looking at RVs at the Lamb's farm General RV show in 2016, met Mike C from General RV in Huntley, and fell in love with the Discovery LXE 40D . Mike was very knowledgeable, and answered all of our questions. We decided to order one in Feb. of this year, opting for the L-dinette instead of the table/chairs. Bought a new, large class A motorhome coach from this General RV Huntley dealership in 2012. My sales person lied on the amount I could afford and actually used "free" options as money down so he could place me in a more expensive Coach. Bank of the West beware of these practices because it was done without hesitation. I thought my coach principal and interest was much lower until I received the payment book. Nightmare to get out of and always buyer beware. I called another dealership because I suspected shady practices and I was right. My fault for trusting the sales and financial managers with all of those "free" options and add- ons. I was severely in the Red until I finally sold the motorhome 3 years later. Let me 1st start by saying this was my 3rd RV purchase from General RV and it was my most miserable one. I will NEVER buy from them again. The whole process with the exception of Brad the finance guy was a pain in the butt. During the whole process I felt uneasy and I should have listened to my gut! I had paid for a sway control system with one of my previous trailers and wanted the hooks from my existing trailer transferred to the new one. I kept being told, "Yeah Yeah, we'll take care of that. We took delivery at the beginning of Dec 2017 and had them transport it to our campsite. On delivery day we went for the walk through and there was an electrical issue so it was a bit scary to see all these wires hanging out. I again asked about the sway bar control hooks that they were going to transferred. Again told, yeah yeah we'll take care of that and finish fixing the electrical issue and meet you at the place. We leave, stop by our house to pick up the battery and a couple other items that went with the trailer we were trading in and started heading up to our site. Shortly after getting on the road the delivery driver called saying he was almost there. We were like how did that happen they were working an electrical issue and needed to put the sway hooks on. He said he didn't know about all that he was just delivering it. We get up there and are frantically unloading our old trailer so not to make the driver have to wait very long. After he place the trailer we all noticed that the power cord that was supplied didn't have the security ring to screw on to the trailer. After he left, and we were moving things into the new trailer, we realized the sway hooks weren't on the new trailer so I was pissed. I called and told them I was bringing in the power cord and the crank we'd found while putting our things back in the new trailer. I went into the store the following week, took the cord in to show them the ring missing, told them about no sway control hooks, and gave them the crank. No problem on ordering a new cord. I asked about the sway hooks and was told by someone that the driver ahold have done it as they need it hooked up to a vehicle to align the hooks. No one seems to be in a big hurry to rectify the situation and I was short on time and it was December. I said you know what, its cold out right now, it's not like we are using it right now we can take care of it in the spring. Fast forward to Spring - no one "remembers" anything about the sway hooks now and just stopped short of calling me a liar and told it isn't written on any of the official paperwork. So let that be a lesson to you, make sure EVERY DETAIL OF WHAT YOU ARE PROMISED BY SALES IS IN WRITING. They are refusing to make good on the promises made. I took my RV there after it was damaged in an accident. I was told it would take 3 weeks to fix in early June. I was moving to California and told them my drop dead date was July 19th. The day before I was scheduled to pick it up I was told they needed an additional 3 weeks. Finally and September 20th I was told it was finally done. This was an insurance claim and somehow they were able to get paid without my approval. I had to pay someone $1700 to bring to California and when it arrived the damage was not completely fixed and General RV lost my keys. Overall very disappointing! Bought a $16,000.00 camper. I was First told they would leave my old hook up for my lights. They removed it and made me purchase an adaptor. High pressure sales made me buy a protection package for $750.00. I Called them and canceled it within 12 hours. The finance man made a smart remark, we should of put it on before you called so we could get the money. I purchased a $300.00 cover from them. They never bothered to call me to let me know it was in. Finally, my bank check was for more than the amount owed. I have now been waiting over 2 months for the refund. Called Brad he said he would get right back with me. Still waiting for his call. These people were nice until the sale. After the sale they don't care. You can not even get them to call. What if I waited 2 months to pay them. They would be late fees and finance charges. Do not buy from them. Once the sale is over you are nothing to them. This is no way to treat customers. Not a place to have any work done on your RV. I had to bring my unit back 3 times before they got it right. Their costs are outrageous. An oil change at a truck repair shop cost me $49.00 with synthetic oil. General RV will charge over 100 for just regular oil. Their technicians are poorly trained or have no clue about many aspects of RV maintenance and repair. Their units for sale are listed way over what you can find elsewhere. read more

We purchased a new class A motor home from Geneal RV. If you call the phone number listed on their website you work with the Internet sales guys. They sent me a purchase agreement with the $4000 extended service contract included. I specifically said to 4 different General RV people that I did NOT want the service contract. Guess they hoped I would not notice it or just agree to it. Price for the unit was good so they get 3 stars. Took the unit camping and the fridge does not work so I will see how their service is. They have good prices but be careful when dealing with them. I expected more professional conduct. read more

The Service Personnel are top notch and overall have had a good experiences with General RV. Having said that, here is why they get a low rating... They have a policy regarding service (have had lots of warranty work done on our new RV), where once a part is ordered you are required to pick up your RV as they wont store it while parts are on order. Then of course, you get to bring it back once parts are in. Wait, what?!? Yep, I have done this dance now for the third time in a few months. This is crazy. Their lot is more than big enough to accommodate, yet they will not keep it while parts are on order. Just imagine doing this for your car when bringing it in for repair. I am only 45 minutes away, so yes a big deal, but not nearly as it would be if I was over an hour away. Again, service is fine but if you are looking at parts coming your way, be prepared for this inconvenience. read more

**BEWARE**Fellow RV consumers BEWARE!! Go elsewhere!! Long story short: GENERAL RV and KEYSTONE will sell you a "brand-new" camper that is faulty and defective, with water leaks and other major issues, within a few months of purchase and expect you to be satisfied. The long story is below. We have refrained from posting a review online because we were under the impression that General RV and Keystone were going to rectify our situation. We thought it is was only fair to give these companies a fair chance, at first. It has now been almost 8 months since our issues began and we can see clearly that these companies are just trying to jerk us around to get rid of us. However, we refuse to allow this to be swept under the rug and will post a review every day to continue to alert our fellow consumers from going through the same situation as we are. We will give you a quick summary of the situation. We purchased a brand-new Keystone Passport last April. It was used on 3 separate occasions and the problems began. In October during a trip, we found out that our heater did not work and that our roof was leaking on our slide and in the main part of the camper. We woke up on several different mornings with water all over our ceiling and down the walls onto the floor. On our brand-new camper!!! We immediately called General RV and the earliest they could get us in was January. They clearly were not too concerned with the problems we were having. We understand that they are busy and could not get us in right away, but 3 months out was ridiculous. We took it there in January to address the water damage, peeling decals, furnace issues, thermostat issue, ceiling strips falling off, and a few other little things. After it was there for a short while, less than a week, they called us to pick it up. When we picked it up it was snowy and the camper was covered so we could not view it too well on the outside. We looked over the inside and instantly had concerns. Our ceiling of the main cabin was sagging and had nails sticking half way out of it. They tried to re-nail it and said there was nothing to nail into, therefore the sag was present. This was not an issue before we took in for repair and we were told that that is how it would have to be because nothing was there to nail it to. We were told that the vents of the main part of the camper were leaking and allowing the water into the camper. The issue with the slide was identified as a sagging roof that was allowing water to pool and enter our camper through the ceiling and down in the walls. The fix was to take a large piece of angle iron and screw it over top of our roof membrane, into the wood that has now been wet, and to plaster caulking all over it. The caulking was then slathered across the top of the slide roof as well. The sagging ceiling in the main part of the camper was now being hit by the slide every time in goes in and out. On our way home from picking this up, the snow melted and fell off. This is when we noticed that all of our decals were now peeling off. The front part of the fascia where the side and front of the camper panels come together was not fastened down, and starting to separate. When we discovered this, as well as getting a real good look at the repairs that were made, we called General RV back and rescheduled to have this remedied. Again, they pushed us out until April. Another 3-4 months. We could see clearly that they were pushing us out because the warranty expired in April. We took it to another shop to get an unbiased opinion. He told us that our camper was essentially trash. He told us that water has already got in behind the walls, ceiling, and insulation. He said that this will be nothing but problems from this point forward. He handles flood cases all the time and says that within a year or 2, the rv will eventually rot and mold and be worthless. He told us that this RV should be completely replaced, especially since it was only 6 months old and within the warranty period. Unfortunately, he did not do factory warranty work because he had been taken in the past. At this point we contacted Keystone and voiced our concerns. They said they understood and would have their service team work with General RV to remedy these problems. We told them that the huge piece of angle iron was nothing more than a band-aid, and the fact that the roof was sagging and allowing water in our RV, was unacceptable. A new camper should not be sagging and allowing water in to begin with. They said this was their fix and they were not changing it. We took it to General RV for the second time to get that "quality" service that we received the first time. The morning we took it to get it repaired, we discovered a new leak that was flowing across our floor in the back of the RV. Our electric also did not work and a complaint was made. We were told that our camper would be ready within a few hours. NO WAY! read more

Absolutely a horrible place to work with. They messed up one thing after another! I have owned a brand new RV for about two months now and have not been able to use it! Multiple items broken which were hidden from us, we still have no title, license or registration and they refuse to let us get our own plates..won't give us the paperwork needed to get them. Have made two payments on a brand new 2018 RV that has been in a shop since we got it , and even if it did work..I can't drive it legally! Also, multiple items that were suppose to come with it..spare key etc..I don't have yet. The place is a mess..not sure if they purposely rip people off or are just that incompetent. Certainly would never recommend and am sorry we ever got involved with these people. Had to cancel one trip now because of all of the issues with the vehicle..hoping it is ready to go for the next trip on June. Doubtful though that things will get fixed! My first review, I usually don't like people that write them but in this case I have to warn folks. First they said they were going to test everything and show us how to use everything, including emptying all 3 tanks and they would just rewinterize it after our walk through since it was getting cold (for free). Get there to pick it up, remember they charge $1200.00 prep fee, service includes cleaning the vehicle, filling the gas and showing you how to use it (never showed us how to empty and refill the tanks). Radio inside volume did not work (they tried to get it going but it still is not working (there is $500 more for a radio), outside radio was dead (they offered nothing off and were not going to do a thing, we replace it for $300), animal hair was throughout the vehicle and stuck on food in the kitchen that was disgusting. They "cleaned" the carpet they said but it was so nasty. Here I am a nice guy still have not complained, ready to sign paperwork and finance guy tried to use the original asking price not our negotiated figure. Did I mention the sales manager Jim is pretty sarcastic and not user friendly, bad guy to be in sales. Finace guy had to get the salesman who had it right away, seemed fishy and should have walked then, they prey on your excited emotion. After I get home I needed to test these tanks that they never showed us how to use. The fresh water valve was frozen remember they check EVERYTHING, I fixed this myself no way was I going to let them touch it. Well guess what, I hold 14 ase certifications in automotive repair and remodel houses I think I know this valve has not been moved for a long time, could not turn it with pliers I was going to trust them and take this thing like that in December, so glad I didn't. I have an Auto Repair facility nearby probably not the one to do this to. I have never and will never lie to my customers like that or install anything they don't need. One last thing my father in law lives across the street in Sun City and he is more pissed than I am and he is a well respected member of a few clubs in there, good luck with that one he likes to talk.
