I can't begin to explain the gratitude I feel for the hospitality I have received at this shop. They have accommodated all my wants and needs to the fullest. For starters, they kept the rooms very CLEAN. I saw them thoroughly cleaning everything station after every client. Its safe to say, you don't have to worry about covid here. Derrick was my artist and he was really good. I came in with my idea and he decided what was best compared to my other work. It came out great and I couldn't be happier. I would recommend to anyone who wants a great detailed artist. Covid practices was all on point. They have a system that made me feel super safe. They have rooms upstairs that are distanced and masks are required at all time. The sanitize everything in your pockets to keep a clean environment. I wanted a new tattoo to celebrate my 10 year coming out and my first trip to LA Pride. I didn't know of a good shop so I just Googled and this shop came up. My partner and I walked in without an appointment and they, immediately, made time for us. We had Song and he was amazing! He was very friendly and sweet. In addition, he drew up what I wanted and, when I wanted to change the design a bit, he did so with no arguments. Then, he asked me, several times if I was ok with it and if the size was right before he began. He was very through, and took his time (even though he had another appointment waiting as he finished up) and he made it come to life. It looks even better than the picture and he even gave her a bit of sass. All in all, I'm thrilled with my new art and with Song himself. I, highly, recommend this salon and Song. I've been getting tattooed since the late 80's. I've spent time in all kinds of shops from old school parlors in Brooklyn to private studios all over the country. Generation 8 has a great vibe. I'd say it's a mixture of an old school shop that takes walk ins and a more new school artsy spot where all kinds of people can feel comfortable. The owner is a real gentleman and has come through and thanked people for being there every time I've been there. HIRO is the absolute GOAT for Japanese traditional in LA. They also are reasonably priced and don't try to rip you off. We called Generation 8 and immediately got in with Yair. We loved him! Too bad he's going back to his hometown. He took care of us and I told him I would try to get in with him before he left. This review is well overdue. I got a sleeve tattoo here a couple of years ago by an artist who is no longer there, so I'll just write about the shop itself and my overall experience during my visits over the course of six months that it took to complete my arm. Dave and everyone else that works here were extremely helpful from the beginning to end, and every visit was always super pleasant to say the least. The sleeve wasn't my first tattoo, and I'd gone to different shops in the past, but hands down, Generation8Tattoo offered the best experience out of all of them. As for the finished work, even after two years--and not even exaggerating--I still get a compliment *at least* once a day, every day, by random strangers. Since I've gotten it, I've traveled to seven different countries, and in every country, someone local asked me where I'd gotten it from, so you know the quality is also recognized globally. All the artists here are extremely talented, and Dave the owner is passionate about providing a great experience and work for all the patrons of the shop, whether he's actually working on them or not. I've recommended everyone who is looking to get a tattoo to go here with confidence, and I will continue to do so. I requested an appointment through Yelp and was able to text the shop re: the design/style of the tattoo I wanted. They responded quickly and fit me in on a very busy 4/20. The shop itself is clean and the staff is approachable and attentive. My artist was Marcos and he was quiet, but friendly. It took a few revisions before we settled on a design I think because of a bit of a language barrier (for example, I had to explain the difference between a lowercase and uppercase L). Marcos' station was clean and he checked with me many times to make sure I was handling the pain okay. He mentioned that because of the location of my tat, I will probably need to come back for touch-ups (which are free for life! YAY!) and I was told that if I had too much trouble with the touchups, they would give me another equally-sized tattoo in a different location for free. That is great service and I appreciate their commitment to keeping customers happy!! I was in and out in less than an hour so I was charged the flat hourly minimum of $80. I'll definitely be back and have recommended this spot to friends. read more

Another great review. I called when they opened and was able to get a same day appointment. I got something meaningful for the recent loss of my baby. It came out perfect! I didn't know they changed the hourly rate charge (because covid) and the owner Dave still honored the original price no problem and also gave me a card for $40 off my next tattoo which was super nice of him! The guys at Generation8 are the kindest, most welcoming, and most service-oriented tattoo crew Adrian and I have run across in our ink adventures. We had a false alarm medical issue that interrupted our lunch and nearly prevented us from making our appointment. When I asked if we could order something from UberEats, they said no problem and recommended a nearby pizza place instead. We had our hearts set on ramen and they quickly told us about Tatsu Ramen a couple blocks down and offered to have one of their guys (thanks again Nick!) pick it up for us. About a half hour later, just after our artist Chuck had placed the outline on Adrian, our food arrived. Chuck said, I've got plenty of time, so enjoy your food and we'll get started when you're finished." Our simple, but important to us, script tattoos came out brilliantly. Chuck has a very soft touch and neither of us felt any real pain even though the placement was on the inside of our upper arms, a spot that's usually pretty tender. Awesome shop and crew.
