So we arrived at 4:30 pm on a Tuesday. They said they were changing shifts. No one seemed to know what to do. We finally got water and the waiter asked us what we wanted. We then were told to go to the buffet but there was no one to help us so we stood there for at least 5 minutes waiting for a bowl to fill. My husband ordered a beer but it has not arrived yet. This is crazy! Don't come if you are in a hurry. This is one level up from fast food. We only came because we had a BOGO(buy one get one free). Btw it is not crowded at all. Maybe 3 tables. So you can't blame busy on the problem. Not sure if I would come again for the price. One medium bowl is $16 each. If not for the BOGO forget it. Food took about 15 minutes to get here. Had an issue with what we ordered but it was taken care of right away and server was still friendly when explaining the mishap. Good food and drinks as well. Very disappointed. Ordered online got home. Live 45 minutes away. My bowl was missing two ingredients and husbands was super spicy when nothing we ordered to put in bowl was spicy. Same online order that was saved from prior time. I called and the GM said to get a refund or to replace it I would need to bring it back. I told him I lived 45 minutes one way by toll road. Build you own bowl. I got the standard size. Selected pork, chopped ham, chicken. Added a few different spices and heat to the flavor. I select baby carrot, baby corn, spinach, bean sprouts, onions and such. I was allowed to pick noddles and brown rice. Top with a few different sweet and spicy sauces. The Wait time was normal to be cooked and the cook gave recommendations of flavors and textures to add. Super tasty and happy with my selection. So sad the this place keeps getting worse on each visit. Majorly burnt food. And even after the renovation the bathrooms are still some of the worst I've seen. That same horrid smell is still in there. Something must be wrong with the sewer. Black and crispy sausage that they still brought to my table amazes me. read more

My first visit (and last) to this so called restauranT. We went on a Friday night about 9:00PM. Our waiter was very nice and explained the menu to me. We ordered small bowls and went through the line. There was literally food on the floor so that you could not access the food without stepping on raw meat and vegetables. Additionally, there was raw food on the counter. If the two employees watching the meat had taken two minutes out of their conversation, they could have wiped off the bar and floor. Half way through the line, my husband wanted to go back for more meat and was told he could not. Continuing down the line, he put his sauce on his bowl. The servet called him from across the room and informed him he had ruined his and had to remake it. There were no clean trays or silverware. I have never written a review, good or bad, but this was a disaster. I will not return. read more

I'm afraid that this place is a VERY poor imitation of the HuHot chain. Everything about the place is inferior however, from the layout of the buffet line, to the ingredients, to the preparation, and alas... service. The restaurant location we went to was staffed by very young people who seem to have very little interest in serving us. When I saw the prices on the menu and realized that unlike HuHot, this was a "one time through and you are done affair," I was utterly shocked. Their, "large" bowl is about the size of the standard bowls at HuHot, except that you only get to fill it once and you are done. At $15, way more than the price of the HuHot "all you can eat" buffet, this seems scandalously pricey. The waitress tried ineffectually to explain that the "large" bowl came with "three sides," which could include rice, noodles, cabbage, or some combination. What they don't explain though, is that they are not "sides," but rather are mixed in with the food during cooking. This is also inferior to how it is done at HuHot, where you can decide if you want noodles or not, if you want rice or not, and can control the proportions. I also would have preferred to be able to watch them cook my food, as at HuHot, but they made us sit down and wait for a waiter to bring us our food... After I watched it sit on the counter for 5 or 10 minutes. When we finally got our food which took three times longer than it similar establishments, it was inedible. The food had almost no depth of flavor except for the taste of the charred ingredients. Throughout the entire dish, everything was blackened and tasted burnt. I am certain that part of the reason for this is their use of sauces that are based on corn syrup... Almost every sauce was thick and sugary, and lacked any real flavor. Our waitress never came back to see if we needed anything, or if the food was to our liking, so after 15 minutes of waiting I took my bowl up to the manager and told her that I couldn't eat it and would not pay $15 for it. Were I interested in being a restauranteur, I would open a HuHot nearby. This Genghis Grill would be closed in a week. read more

I really enjoy coming here. They make Mongolian stir-fry bowls out of the ingredients you add to your bowl from a huge buffet. First up in the buffet are a wide range of veggies and meats, and even some fruits like pineapple to add a little natural sweetness if you want. Next, there are several different salts and spices to up the flavor factor. Next up, there are many different sauces that you can add for even more flavor. My favorite is the dragon sauce (mostly because it is called Dragon sauce)! Finally, you bring your bowl over to the cook and choose between noodles, pasta, rice, or even cabbage. Coming here I have mastered the fine balancing act of filling the bowl up to the max! Throughout the years I have always loved Genghis Grill. I love seafood, but I often like to eat vegan foods and this place allows me to get something fresh and delicious no matter what. Every time I've been the whole premises has been clean and well-kept. My one complaint is that they don't always offer shrimp during lunch hours, but they still offer several other seafood options so I don't mind. The main reason I love this place, is that you get a fresh cooked meal out of a wide variety of fresh ingredients at a decent price. I plan to keep coming here in the future! read more

We came in here just because it was on the vicinity of where we were, and we were pleasantly surprised. After we were seated the server explained about the different size bowl options and how you choose your own ingredients at the buffet style area. They also have recipe cards which give you ideas of what tastes good together, which is what I decided to do. You are given your bowl which you take and fill with the ingredients. You then take it to a counter where it is stir fryed, and then served to you at your table. There were lots of options to choose from like meat and fish, then a choice of vegetables and also rice, noodles and sauces. There's healthy options and the portion size was perfect for lunchtime. Service was terrible. We arrived, got our table, and I went to the restroom. When I got back, my wife still had not been tended to, and I passed 2 staff, and a manager, standing around, and talking. Drinks were late. Didn't get waters til half way through our meal. Staff arguing, multiple times, in front of multiple customers. Arguing by the entrance. Arguing behind the bar, arguing around the grill. The table in front of me was dirty, which is where one staff member was sitting with kiosk. Let me start by saying, I LOVE Genghis Grill. The food is amazing! Every other time we've gone we havent had issues like last night. I dont usually leave reviews, but the service yesterday was bad enough to warrant it. First off, we walked in the door only to be hit directly in the face with what felt like 150 degrees of pure hot steamy air. Not pleasant. Told someone who said he would fix it, but it still felt that way when we left. That of course, was not why I am upset, just want to make sure he at least told someone. We sat down and waited for our server to come up and introduce himself, which took several minutes. I saw him talking to a female server the entire time we were waiting. Finally he comes over, we explain that we brought food for our VERY picky daughter to eat & that we needed dishes to be able to serve her on, like we were told we would need, when we called and asked if it was okay to do this. We also ordered our drinks and 2 DIY bowls. He walked away and gave us nothing. I had to follow him to get namecards, (of course he didnt have a pen, so i provided one), then he walked away again, I was assuming to get our metal bowls. I assumed wrong. I had to chase him down again for those. We made our bowls, and in order for us to get them while hot, the WONDERFUL bartender (our usual server) brought them to us for him. The food was amazing. as always. SO happy steak is back btw. BUT when needing refills, AGAIN our server had to be chased down each time, he spent most of the evening following & what seemed like flirting with another female employee. I have worked in the service industry for over a decade, including as a bartender & server. I know what it takes and what it looks like to be swamped, in the weeds , or even just overwhelmed as a newbie. NONE of these were the case. It wasnt very busy at all, and everytime we needed him, it wasnt him working that made us wait, it was the talking and giggling w/ her. Same thing happened when it was time to pay. By this point I was pretty fed up. We came out to eat, which NEVER happens right now... this was SUPPOSED to be a treat. The service SUCKED. On my ONE night out. (due to financial issues at the moment, our budget only allowed 1 special night, we chose Genghis. Only to have to get up 6-7 times during my meal to ask him to do HIS job.) This time I did not go to him, I went and asked another server for the manager "please". The bartender came around the corner and heard this, he mentioned hearing me have to ask for everything so many times, and said at this point he was taking over my table, and apologized for the service so far. MAN, if I would have thought about it, I wouldve done that already. He is ALWAYS GREAT. He knows from experience that I have never complained there, and ALWAYS tip above and beyond. UNLESS the service is THAT bad. We got the check and our togo containers, but before he could p/u the check, the original server grabbed it. (i assumed he cared more about this one, seeing is this is where he gets paid...) I explained that I wanted the bartender to handle it. He told me "No, I take care of it, its my table and check", when he came back from the computer, and handed it back, he (not very politely) told me "Nevermind, I guess its his now." I sat around waiting for the manager knowing that the other server had told her I was wanting to speak with her. When she came out from whereever she was, she did not come to our table or even acknowledge us or attempt to diffuse the situation. Instead, she went to the original server, who was clearly upset that the bartender took over our table, and did HIS job for him, because he obviously didnt care enough to take care of his own table and guests. When we finally gave up, on the manager ever coming over to talk to us, we walked by where he was telling someone about what happened with the bartender and check. (leaving out the reason the bartender had to take over the table of course) Had it not been for the bartender (gentleman with longer curly hair, pulled back if im not mistaken) and the fact that, like I mentioned, I LOVE Genghis.. ESPECIALLY when yall have steak! Had it not been for those two things (not that he is a thing, referring to his service, attitude, & respect for people) then I would probably NEVER bring my family back to this location. We already decided that when we come back, we ONLY want him to take care of us when he is there. If he is not, someone else is ok, but NEVER again with the server yesterday. People who have been in and understand the service industry, are often the best tippers, and most understanding of an overwhelmed or new server.. to an extent. I NEVER usually tip below $5-7 even when my check is small. But yesterday, was ridiculous, to say the least. The VERY least. read more

When my wife asked for a refill on her raspberry tea, she noticed we were almost finished eating, took it upon herself to bring a to go drink. I like waitresses that are attentive. Now the sesame beef I chose and did the seasoning just exactly as the card suggested had a good flavor, but the beef itself was subpar. So much gristle in the beef was disappointing, not only for me, but for my son and wife. All three of us had sesame beef. My granddaughter did her own thing with chicken and she was happy. The reason I will never return to Genghis Grill at any location, is customer service plain and simple. I expect a wait as most "fast food" places skimp on labor so that is not my issue. My issue is that when I went to pay and the server saw I tipped 3 dollars, all her hospitality went out the window. I am sick and tired of me, the customer, being expected to pay YOUR employees salary. It just so happend this grill was the straw that broke my back, I AM NOT THEIR EMPLOYER, STOP EXPECTING ME TO PAY YOUR WAGES. Oh the options! I love Genghis Grill. It has a unique, salad-bar style way of ordering that makes your meal fun and interactive. Basically, you get in line and fill up a bowl with all the ingredients you could possibly want. You choose the veggies, meats, sauces, spices and your starch - noodles, rice or tortillas. Then you hand it over to the cooks, and they give you an order number. When your bowl is ready, your waiter will bring it to you. It's usually pretty quick - no more than 10 minutes or so. Genghis is perfect for an indecisive order-er like me. Instead of having to pick one yummy thing, I can get them all! Just pile your bowl high with all the ingredients that look good. It sort of becomes a game, seeing how much you can get to fit the little metal bowl they give you. They give you the option to go back for a second bowl if you're still hungry after the first. I think it's an extra $4 if you're there for dinner. It's a little less for lunch. read more

I have been eating here since the first one opened off western center in like '08. If you ask me they have made to many changes to the menu. The food is so good though. I love being able to pick EXACTLY what I want in my bowl! They have quite a bit of options (not as many as they used to) but I have perfected mine! I've been here numerous times and never had any issues other than maybe just a little bit of a wait for my food but that's understandable. Tonight my wife and I arrived and were surprised they weren't as busy seeing as it was around dinner time and other places were full. We were seated as usual and went to make our bowl, sat down and waited. About 10 minutes later someone who wasn't our server brought my wife's bowl out to her and said mine would be out soon, about 15 minutes passed and I went to the area where they place the bowls for the server to see if maybe mine was up there but it wasn't. Eventually we flagged down a different server and told her the situation and she got with who I assumed was the manager to see if they could find my bowl. At one point my server brought me a bowl that wasn't mine and we returned it, then the server we flagged down came and asked if I wanted to re make my bowl which I declined, my wife had finished hers and at this point I was ready to leave. I commend management for being super apologetic and comping our meal, and the young lady that checked on us numerous times but it will probably be a very long time before I return to this location. read more

This mongolian-style grill has many options for your meal. What bothers me is you walk through the line, you choose the ingredients, you measure and put them in a tiny bowl, and then they cook it. In my opinion, it's overpriced for what it is. They have new bowls, which seem even smaller than the bowls they used before! I'm wondering if it is a cost-cutting measure or what. The bowls also have a little slot underneath where you slip a card that has your name and what kind of starch you want with your bowl. These new bowls are so annoying. Service is fine, but once again, they don't take your order, just bring drinks and deliver your bowls. Oh, and they used to have a big menu behind the ingredient line, but they took it down and put the info on these recipe cards you can walk down the line with (while holding your new, smaller weird bowl with an even smaller sauce bowl attached and the card with your name on it slid into the slot underneath). Another vegetarian friendly place! They have tofu! The deal is you walk in and they give you a little metal bowl. You fill this bowl with spices, tofu, veggies and then pick out your sauce and your starch, such as rice or noodles. There are so many combinations you could make from this, that you could never try them all. Think: sweet and sour, teriyaki, BBQ, etc. Then you walk up to the counter where you tell them you are vegetarian. They clean a portion of the giant metal stove and then cook your stuff right there (these may bother some as all the food is cooked on one stove) and hand you a ticket. You take a seat and they bring it out to you when it is done. Overall how good the food is depends on you and what you put in your bowl. I think it is fabulous. Minus one star for being overly pricey for some veggies and tofu. At least it is a bottomless bowl. Come hungry. read more

I used to like Ghenghi's a lot! Like a lo because it was super simple and a traditional a la carte Mongolian grill where you either picked to just have a single servings or multi-serving. Now they have menu items and different size bowls all one serving. Not that it's more complicated but I just liked how before I was about to get two servings by just paying $3 more. I understand the set menu items which is cool, but why did they get rid of the whole $9.99 single bowl or $12.99 multi-bowl options. I think that was what the real charm behind Genghi's was for me. It was just the place to get your own stir-fry done. At least the food is still decent, and there is a unique experience created while you are here but there are just a few things that may need to be revised. 2-stars because the concept of a la carte Mongolian grill is gone.
