The servers were great but they seem understaffed and overwhelmed. The cooks drug them DOWN. There was only two of them and neither one was wearing a hairnet, they burned the food, and, of course there was a hair in one of our plates. AND ANOTHER THING. Clearly they can not afford to put a janitor on the payroll because the bathroom was RANK. Literal shit smeared on the toilet, HOT, and humid. HOT AND STINK DO NOT GO TOGETHER. Very terrible!! Overall, very meh. Many of the ingredients that had spaces were either empty and needed refilling or simply out of stock. There is no tray but you are given your bowl, sauce cup and paper to hand to the cook before you start so I had to keep the sauce cup in my pocket while choosing ingredients. The bowls came out fairly quick and the Korean Pork was was great so that was the good part. The grill was too hot so there was a lot of charred bits both on the food and as loose bits in the bowl. So i typically eat at the live oak location. I recently moved in this area and this location is closest to me. I went to eat this afternoon around 1pm(10/6). So I gave a 3 soley based on the food actually being good. Shout out to the young latina lady cooking. I couldnt see her name tag or id just say her name. With that being said, everything else here was not good. Girl working the front desk was tweaking something fierce not sure what she was on but yea she was on it badly i dont know how the manager didnt catch this. Next, the floor were covered in a layer of idk just a layer.. When i went to get my food, i grabbed a tray to put my bowl on. The tray was covered in raw chicken.. as in visible bits of chicken were on the tray. No hamd sanitizer insight. The woman cooking went and grabbed me a pack of wet ones. I went to the bathroom to wash my hands. No soap in the dispenser, no napkins in the napkin dispenser. Just a pump soap dispenser you have in your bathroom at home. Then to top it off, i order a large bowl and a medium and im charged for that. I over hear the manager saying they are out of large bowls for to go. Now i would imagine he would just put the rest in an additional medium bowl but nope. Just gave me a medium which i would of said something if i remembered. This was the first time visiting this location since moving to the Hill Country. The wait was long as we sat at our table for 30 min without being waited on, I finally asked one of the two waitress that was working if anyone would be taking our order. My wife went to use the restroom and it was atrocious, very filthy with both bathrooms door wide open for all to see how terrible they were. The meat counter was a wreck and sloppy as was the spice bar and the sauce bar had several that were empty. This has to be the worst experience ever at a Genghis Grill, we used to frequent the location in Mckinney Texas regularly couple times a month, I will never step foot back in this location again!!! Visited Genghis on a Monday night and it was dead inside. I thought the food was good, the restaurant was clean, and our server was a doll. I'm from Southern CA and I'm very familiar with Mongolian BBQ/Grill. The menu and various bowls they can cook for you seems like a hassle to me. Just charge people $15.99 for lunch and $19.99 for dinner, all you can eat. It's so much easier and the business model makes more sense. My wife had a small bowl for $12.99?? and my son and I both had the medium for $15.99... Just charge for AYCE! Most people like my wife will only have 1 bowl anyways... The fun part of these restaurants is standing in line, filling up your bowl, spilling veggies everywhere, making your own sauce, and then watching it being cooked on the grill. At Genghis, you get 1 small silver bowl, fill up your protein and veggies, and then place the bowl on the counter. You don't get to watch it being cooked! You sit down and the server brings your food after it's cooked. I just don't get that. Make it a FUN experience.. I'd like to see this place do well but you're leaving money on the table. My bill was $48 for 3 when you could have charged us $20 per person and made 20%+ more and we would have eaten pretty much the SAME amount. Also, I'd use FROZEN, thinly cut meat... That's how every Mongolian place in SoCal serves their protein... Looking at raw chicken and beef sitting in a container isn't really appetizing you know?? Anyways, it's a good product over all, clean, but the franchisor needs to help the franchisees. I went to a Korean BBQ place in Austin and it was $40+ per person for LUNCH and the place was PACKED. The setup of the restaurant is a bit strange with one arriving directly to a bar area. Having read some of the other reviews, I surmise that the owners were the couple at the bar; they greeted us very nicely and we got seated; the place was rather empty at 1800 on a Wednesday. The waitress was very nice and she explained the concept, which seemed interesting. One chooses a bowl size, a couple base sides and then moves on to selecting ingredients from a "salad bar type" area with a number of choices. The decor looks worn out and the seating even has headrests which are visibly sown up much like you would mend an old shirt. The food was ok, but no more; the ingredients are not laid out in an appealing manner and the quality of the food itself was lacking. The bathrooms were an unmitigated disaster. Dirty, smelling, just plain bad and what you'd expect from the seediest of gas station restrooms. We kept an open mind and when the food arrived, the bowls it was served in looked as if they'd served for a decade: old, worn out and unappealing. The food was not good and we left most of it behind. The folks are nice, but much attention needs to be paid to the bathrooms and food quality; the owners, if they were at the bar as I surmised, should check on this rather than hang out at the bar. I've been to Genghis Grill several times, and end up making a totally different bowl each time! For all the newbies, you have to be careful with the seasoning (I used to put way too much Dragon Salt on my food..eek!). 1 spoon is enough! I try to follow the recipe cards they have there but always end up making a Frankenstein-style bowl...a little bit of this, a little bit of that. I also like to get the steamed rice as the starch. There's enough food in 1 bowl for two servings (at least for me), so I usually end up taking the leftovers for lunch the next day. The servers here are great...if they're still serving them, get the watermelon Arnold Palmers (half tea, half lemonade). They are totally yum!! read more

Not sure if I'm wrong of if it decreased (doubtful), but I was happy! Personally, I like Fire Hut a lot better (across 1604 near Red Robin). The price is about the same and it includes crispy wontons and soup. +Several protein options (chicken, steak, pork, shrimp, calamari, scallops, tofu) +Several starch options (brown/white rice, noodles, tortillas) +Plethora of sauce combinations; including recipe cards -Our server was a bit off-putting; seemed annoyed we only ordered water and even more annoyed we asked for lemons; now that I think about it, generally annoyed with us all together :( -Veggies were near empty with some items (mushrooms), but I'm sure they were slammed before we came in -No crushed red pepper on their spice tray, maybe they were out? Where should I start.... The lemonade taste like water witnot even a hint of lemon. The table and floor were dirty next to us and where we were seated. The pot stickers were cold which is irritating because the grill wasn't far from the table. The waiter came by all of three times to take our order, to bring our drinks and bring our ticket. Went there today at noon, one hour after their opening for lunch. I ordered on line and was in the parking and had to use the restroom, what a filthy mess. The employee using the bathroom couldn't even wash his hands correctly. Urinal looked like one out of a dive bar, sink hadn't been cleaned in awhile, it was nasty for just being open and no one in the restaurant. Should had gotten a clue when two tables looked used and it was noon on a Wednesday, nearby workers don't eat there, wonder why!?!? Told a young lady about it and asked if the GM is in, she said no but her father owns the place. Wonder if she'll tell him the whole restaurant looks like it could use a cleaning. There was a water bucket under the counter where guest walk by, it looked dirty and she said it had to be there to wipe the counters. Holy Shit, with a dirty rag. So I get me food, toughest beef broccoli ever had, still chewing 4 hours later. The kimchi fried rice looked like it was his first day, did not look remotely like the photo on the menu. So the kicker is, I told my wife how gross the place was and she said,"GOOD THING YOU DIDN'T GO TO THE ONE AT THE FORUM"! About spit my food out but at $38 who could afford. Honestly I was so excited because the ghenghis we live by doesn't have bamboo shoots anymore and they are my favorite, we got the groupon as well so I was pretty happy to drive the extra 8.5 miles. The food here however wasn't as good, the eggs I requested were not added and the sauce wasn't cooked into the food well. Then I went to the restroom and two of the ladies stall doors are broken (one the lock is too low altogether so I don't think it ever worked) which isn't exactly great cuz you have to reach to hold it closed while you do your business. There is a sign at the front that instructs you to wait to be seated. We waited at the front for several minutes while multiple staff looked at us and then continued about tasks. Genghis Grill is a great place to come if you really want to customize your food. I feel like in the past, they had recipe ideas with suggestions of what sauces to mix, but I could be getting this confused with a different mongolian restaurant. Genghis Grill places out fresh ingredients from veggies and protein, to sauces to top off you creation. You first pick the size you want. Then you go through the line and pick all the different ingredients you want, starting with veggies, then you go to meats, seasonings and sauces. You have a separate bowl for the sauce, and there are tiny spoons which allow you to taste the sauce before committing. Once your creation is ready, you take it to the grill, where you will choose a size to go with your dish, whether it be white rice, fried rice, udon noodles, spiral noodles or cabbage. Once ready, your server brings your creation to your table, fresh, hot and ready to enjoy! My favorite proteins are pepperoni, steak and bacon!! YUM! read more

I always come here and get the exact Asian flavors I want spice, ginger garlic, spice, veggies, and proteins. $10.99 for me it's overpriced but in San Antonio you're better off paying. If I may when you come and choose your own ingredients start from the veggies and then reverse all back to the protein. You can get more out of that little bowl if you start from the veggie bar on to the protein versus proteins onto veggies. Also, you really don't need that much protein I know it's there and it's eye-popping to choose as much but you really don't need that much Asian food is pretty 50-50 on their ingredient of protein and vegetables. I think it is commendable that he reached out to me with concern. I am suggesting that he review any and all survalance video from that day if he wishes to verify my report. I also suggest that he uses the information I've given him however he wishes - whether to make changes for the better or to ignore me, I personally don't care. I'm never EVER going back. As I mentioned in my reply - it's simply not worth my time, energy, money or gas. However, I made the decision to post about my experience in case someone needs to know so that they could avoid repeating my mistake. I hope that you might have a better, more enjoyable day as a result. There's no reason for anyone deciding to give it a try not to know ahead of time that they MIGHT not end up with a tasty lunch in front of them. We tried to use the BOGO from Home Mag. Don't bother! First, their website doesn't acknowledge it, since there's no code (oh, and the phone number on the coupon is wrong). So I called. The first person didn't know what I was talking about, handed me off to someone else. This second person said to go ahead, order online, they'd give us a refund when we picked up curbside. Okay. The total (just two regular bowls) was a surprising $35.69! When we arrived at 1604 & 281, I called again. Same thing, the first person didn't know anything. The second person said yes they had our order number and would refund one bowl, making the total $20 and change. Someone came out, brought our food, took the coupon and small tip from the trunk, and we left. By then the original charge had cleared our credit card. Yes, $35.69. I called and spoke to the Manager, I was told to ask for either Richard or Anthony. Whichever one this was said that the orders were "batched" at midnight and that was when our refund would be processed. Didn't make much sense, but we decided to wait. It's now three days later - you guessed it, no refund. This error was compounded by the terrible food. My husband 's Fried Rice Bowl consisted of layers of some fried rice, meat, veggies, with a scrambled egg laid on top. Obviously not fried together at all. And rather dry, not to mention gristly meat. Tiny mushy shrimp. My bowl wasn't much better, a small portion of white rice on one side, with chicken and veggies on top. The chicken in mine was tender. But dry too, almost no sauce. Neither meal was more than lukewarm, and we only live a couple of miles from this location. We won't be back! read more

To start with, all of the meals came out at different times 5 mins apart, even though we gave the cooks our food all at the same time. The food was terrible. Carrots undercooked, broccoli undercooked and cabbage, onion and all the veggies were hard on most of our plates. My sons pork was burnt. The spark notes version is that the food is good, the service can be hit or miss but it's guaranteed to be pricey! I've found that I can usually do a smaller bowl and just overload it with all the goodies - sausage, bacon, shrimp, calamari and crab. They let you cram as much as you want into the bowl and even if its stacked a mile high they don't say anything, which is awesome. I wish on the smaller bowls you could mix and match sides but they limit you to one. The honey soy and magonolian BBQ sauces mixed are VERY good (you'll thank me later). They do have a rewards app so make sure you signup for that and present your card because they usually don't ask for it. The dessert menu needs to be revisited. They had some weird bites that were like cheesecake bites. They were okay but I wouldn't order them again. The cookie butter wontons were MUCH better. Bring those back and make them a permanent menu item (please and thank you)! Service can be hit or miss. I've had super attentive waiters and I've had waiters that you see them when they seat you, when they bring you your drinks and when they bring you the check. As another reviewer stated, good food, but totally non existent service. After receiving our food, I don't think a server checked in on us for at least 20 mins, when we were already almost done with our food and our drinks sitting empty for quite some time. All the waitstaff figured gossiping was more important I guess. The one and only time we were checked on, she already wanted to ask us about to-go boxes, separate checks, etc. After bringing the checks over, a few minutes later, she interrupts my group's conversation to ask for payment when none of our cards were sitting on the table yet. Ridiculous. She even decides to tell us we can "stay as long as we like", probably cause she knows she was giving off a vibe of trying to get us to leave. My girlfriend and I received awesome service a few weeks ago from a young hispanic kid working at the time. The Friday night staff could learn a thing or 2 from him.
